(CNN) - John McCain is known to tell a joke from time to time, but how will the Arizona senator stand up next to comedian Steve Carell?
McCain is slated to appear on Saturday Night Live this weekend, during which Carell will play host, a McCain aide confirms to CNN.
The aide says the presumptive Republican presidential nominee will head to New York Saturday to rehearse for his role, though it remains unclear exactly what part he will play.
McCain hosted the comedy sketch show himself in 2002.
Democrats Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have also made appearances on the show this year.

John'Cindy,Vickie McCain on SNL ? It should be a Party. Lieberman too?
Sharon's comment needs to be repeated early and often:
Unlike Obama, if you said anything jokingly negative about him a gang of his supporters will come flying out of the woodwork and from under the rocks, accuse you of racism and rip you to shreds.
I love how moveon looneys come here to post unfunny insults against McCain OR even Hillary. As if you guys are going to change some1's mind!! AHAHAHAHAH McCain is going to be the 44th president of the United States. I can't wait!!!
Fred get a life!!!! Your in every blog posting the same copy and paste message about voting for Mccain if not Hillary. Everybody knows the people who post comments like "If not hillart than maccain" are rush limbaugh psycho republicans....So please go vote for ur mccain you republican and let us democarats get our country back!!
This is from a Hillary supporter who will also vote for Obama cause i am first a democrat and second have a brain!!
I love seniors. For several years, I volunteered at a convalescent home to bring joy to their life.............. however, seniors should be vacationing, relaxing from life, guiding their grandchildren, retired, writting a memoir, and having fun growing old............not be running our Country.
Democrats 08.
All the hate needs to stop. There is something happening when people vote not just for the party they belong to but the hopes they hold in common – that whether we are rich or poor; black or white; Latino or Asian; whether we hail from Iowa or New Hampshire, Nevada or South Carolina, we are ready to take this country in a fundamentally new direction. That is what’s happening in America right now. Change is what’s happening in America. You can be the new majority who can lead this nation out of a long political darkness – Democrats, Independents and Republicans who are tired of the division and distraction that has clouded Washington; who know that we can disagree without being disagreeable; who understand that if we mobilize our voices to challenge the money and influence that’s stood in our way and challenge ourselves to reach for something better, there’s no problem we can’t solve – no destiny we cannot fulfill. WE – are the ones WE'VE – been waiting for.
Great, I'm an Obama supporter, but we need a laugh.
Two recent newsworthy items: 1) After McCain is criticized for mentioning the Hamas endorsement of Obama, it is revealed that an Obama advisor has been meeting with Hamas, and 2) After McCain has been criticized for Hagee's endorsement of him, it is revealed that the pastor has apologized and is to meet with the Catholic League.
Now there's change we can believe in!
Americans for McCain '08
god is simply an excuse for what you want. no one can prove otherwise.
You're all idiots. Every last one of you. I hope you all die before you get old.
We don't need another comedian in the White House. Its bad enough we have had a clown for the past 8 years...
Obama/Hamas 08
Politics aside, some of you folks need to watch rerun of Mccain on the SNL from a few years back. He was pretty darn funny. See it for yourselves –judge for yourselves.
Isn't this too late for a man of his age. He will not be able to hit the four pm buffets if he does this.
Do you think McCain Is A Joke?

Run By a Kid.
I second that motion, White Independent.
Thanks for sharing Obama's words. I just hope other people can stop fighting and actually listen.
Many of Hillary’s supporters have proudly proclaimed that they would vote for John McCain when Obama wins the nomination.
I wonder if they would feel so high and mighty if they ran the risk of driving over a road-side bomb on the way to their botox appointment in their soccermom mobile – or in their confederate flag bearin' pickup truck on the way to the lodge.
Thank you BIFF for proving my point!
People who post that they are Hillary supporters and will vote for McSame in November if she is not the nominee..........
They are REPUBLICANS posing as Democrats under Operation Chaos. Look it up.
Hillary supporters are smart enough to even consider voting for McCrazy, because they know that Hillary and Obama support the same policies.
Democrats United!
Chantell ~ you are the weakest link, not Senator Obama. You need to grow up and do some homework.
Why not a tax price Freeze. freeze the price of gas at a set amount.
The ironic appropriateness of this cannot be understated.
I am simply disgusted by the comments of Obama supporters bashing Hillary. I am actually offended by Hillary supporters who would rather vote republican to see Obama go away. As a lifelong democrat, I have never seen this party so divided. I hope all of you will grow a brain, and work for our common goal – elect a democratic president to the white house. This is not about Obama or Hillary. This is about our country, and it's time, you hateful and ignorant commenters come together and support the democratic party, instead of your chosen candidate. Get over it.
Obama and Hillary are both uniquely qualified candidates and both have ran historic campaigns. Now Obama has the lead, and he is probably going to be the nominee. Stop your "Clinton Worshipping" and vote for the party.
As for Obama supporters, stop being nasty to Hillary and her supporters. She is one of the brightest people in the Senate and a lifelong public servant. Show her the respect and your candidate just might get some respect from Hillary supporters too.
SO WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
McCain is appearing on SNL to poke fun at himself, not to entertain those in this country who are near sited and narrow minded.
