(CNN) - CNN has confirmed that former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards will endorse Barack Obama shortly at a Michigan campaign event.
The endorsement could help Obama reach out to white, blue-collar voters - a demographic group that Obama has failed to capture, most notably in the recent Pennsylvania and West Virginia primaries.
Edwards received 7 percent of the vote in Tuesday's West Virginia contest.
The former North Carolina senator had campaigned on the message that he was standing up for the little guy, the people who are not traditionally given a voice in Washington, and that he would do more to fight special interests.
After dropping out of the race on January 30, Edwards asked both Clinton and Obama to make poverty a central issue of the general election and a future Democratic administration, something both agreed to do.
HE CAN'T WIN!
Hillary will still be the nominee!
And this late in the game it does not matter who Edwards endorses!
This thing is going to the convention and if not Hillary will wrap up the nomination in three weeks, then Edwards will sure look awkward!
...and when he gets defeated in november by McCain ....Hillary gets blamed , right ?
Edwards, your 15 minutes were up in 2002. Somebody should have told you.
There are only 50 states, but Heinz does have 57 varieties of ketchup. Easy to confuse.
And the fat lady just keeps on singing!!!!! Go Obama!
Gee, its about time! I'm glad he is taking this step to unite the party.
This doesn't matter... BO won't win the GE. He has divided the nation and pissed off too many people.
HE WILL LOSE
TURN OUT THE LIGHTS THE PARTY IS OVER!
GOD BLESS YOU HILLARY PLEASE HELP US GET OBAMA ELECTED!
WE LOVE YOU HILLARY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The next big endorsement for Obama will come from Al Gore. Wait for it.
I see the good old boys club remains intact no surprise. Hillary you need to run this race as far as you can and kill Obamas chance of a win, and then run independant and forget about the democratic party they have been against you all the way its time they pay!
NORTH CAROLINA PLEASE STAND UP! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
This endorsement will start a cascade effect ....
Yes We Can!
I can't help but laugh at the Clinton supporters on this blog. Not all Clinton supporters, just the ones making ridiculous claims on this blog...Hey, I thought about voting for Clinton at one point, but then the choice became glaringly obvious. Time to all get together and stand as one. Enough bickering already.
It's about time. The two of them played well off each other in the debates at the beginning. I think he'd make a strong running mate, a way to get some of the "white" vote he's been seeking.
This is really sad. This is a huge disappointment to the DEM party. I guess since our votes don't count then they won't matter much in the general either. Thanks DNC !!!!
how you like dem apples?
Wow... nuff said
Way to go! Senator Edwards- I always knew you were a smart sincere wise man! I think an OBAMA/EDWARDS Ticket would go a long way !
EDWARDS ENDORSES OBAMA!!!. HIS CAMPAIGN IS THE NEW BLUEPRINT FOR HOW TO RUN A SUCCESFUL CAMPAIGN. EVERY TIME HILLARY MUSTERS A GLIMMER OF HOPE, SHE IS NOT ALLOWED TO SAVOR ANY OF IT, NOT ALLOWED TO GENERATE ANY MOMENTUM. BARACK'S PEOPLE COME BACK WITH A CRUSHING BLOW OF THEIR OWN.
Thank you John....... I hope you are a part of Obama's Administration... You would be GREAT as Secretary of State!!!!
Obama/Hagel ( I want Chuck Hagel to be VP)
More hateful and repulsive comments about Hillary. As if she didn't know this was coming.
The movement is on...
Hillary supporters stick together for her campaign in '12.
McCain '08 for Clinton '12
There is NO way I will vote for a man with little experience and no answers, who is married to a very ANGRY and prejudiced woman! Why don't you people wake up and see the real world! Both want Hillary Clinton's support, but want NOTHING to do with her otherwise!
These people are simply in it for themselves!
After running kitchen sink politcs, I don't think any person with common sense can suggest that Hillary should be VP. Also selecting VP is up to the nominee. We cannot force Obama for that.
Edwads was the first candidate I went to see on the stump this election cycle. Then, and throughout his whole run, I thought he was a wimp. Now, when an endorsement from him is absolutely meaningless and worthless he decides to take a stand? It's kind of like voting present.....
