John Edwards endorsed Barack Obama following Clinton's big win in West Virginia.
John Edwards endorsed Barack Obama following Clinton's big win in West Virginia.

(CNN) – Hillary Clinton's decisive win in West Virginia caused John Edwards to throw his support to Barack Obama, the Illinois senator's aides said.

Edwards was concerned that the Clinton storyline - that Obama can't win white, working-class voters - was becoming too damaging to Obama and the party, aides said.

Obama had been courting Edwards for four months. Since Edwards abandoned his presidential bid in January, he and Obama have talked regularly, Obama said.

If Obama can't put Clinton away this coming Tuesday there are going to be serious doubts about his viability. With Edwards, a slew of super delegates and some new union support Obama should be able to take the momentum from Clinton. Not to mention the media calling him the nominee for two weeks now. If he beats her in Kentucky she's done, but if she holds onto the based and still wins Kentucky by big numbers I think the DNC and some super delegates are going to start to wonder if they're backing the right candidate. We'll see, Tuesday is going to be exciting for sure!

Obama said W Virginia is not even in his future game plan. pretty stupid to tell an entire state he does not care about what they think now or in the future

NickSanDiego   May 15th, 2008 11:29 am ET

Hey people it has been over 200 years that every Black person who had Confidence and or education was considered ARROGANT. Nothing new.
you might as well just knock it off because it make YOU look stupid and fearful. I bet you hated it when they let Tiger Woods play the Masters and he won by an all time record margins. Grow up the world is changeing keep up or get out of the way!!

Endorsments   May 15th, 2008 11:29 am ET

So since I'm white and John Edwards endorsed Obama I am now suppose to vote for Obama? I'll make up my own mind thank you very much!

Jeff D, South Bend, IN   May 15th, 2008 11:28 am ET

Watch – now Clinton and her cronies will say John Edwards endorsement does not matter, just like the other endorsements from major political operatives, just like superdelegates don't count, just like delegates don't count, just like caucauses don't count, just like popular vote doesn't count, just like the media has been unfair, just like somehow Obama played the race card yet the racist comments from the mouths of her and her surrogates.

*yawn*

look at the polls hillary's people well not vote for him... People believe she is the stronger canidate, and dont like Obama. Super's should really look at that. We are not Joking....

Xavier, St. Louis, MO   May 15th, 2008 11:27 am ET

Edwards is a smart selfless man who is looking out for the Democratic Party. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for Hillary. Anyone that knows anything about politics knows that Hillary played the race card to appeal to the people of West Virginia and it worked. Each time there's a primary; Camp Clinton tries to add some drama to the game to get votes, like "bittergate." I must get her credit, she's has the determination of a mutating virus. But there’s even a cure for her mutating viral campaign. That cure is Obama!

YES WE CAN!

Lawrence - Virginia Beach, VA   May 15th, 2008 11:27 am ET

Everything is about the democratic party. In the end all democrats, willing independents and republicans need to get along to bring this country back to what it was. Let's face it, Obama will be our nominee and let's not cut our noses off to spite our face. Those who claim they want to go vote republican seriously need to think about the last 8 years.

Jeff D, South Bend, IN   May 15th, 2008 11:27 am ET

Cue the Clinton Crybabies with their "HILLARY CAN WIN! OBAMA IS A LOSER" garbage.

Moses, Ca.   May 15th, 2008 11:26 am ET

Thanks Sen. Edwards. We need you in our camp.

phillip   May 15th, 2008 11:26 am ET

Who cares about Edwards? He's washed up, just like Obama will be after he loses in November. Congratulations Democrats, you've done the impossible again-you've ruined your chance at the White House even though most of America seems to depise the Republicans.

TJP   May 15th, 2008 11:25 am ET

Nice to see the two time loser join the future loser, Obama. Edwards adds his name to the list of other Obama supporters who are also losers like Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, and Bill Richardson. The only democrat who has actually won the White House over the last 25 years, Bill Clinton, supports who? His wife and the strongest candidate in the race, Hillary Clinton.

Helen   May 15th, 2008 11:25 am ET

I am saddened that John Edwards should endorse Obama at this time? I personally believe that Edwards wanted to endorse Hillary but was scared of SOMETHING? why now jOHN just after Hillary's big WIN did You turn your back on Hillary? John You shud have have given Sen. Hillary the satisfaction of finishing, which ever way!
How did you feel when Kerry, with whom you Ran endorsed Obama? People seems fearful of going against Obama or saying anything against Obama – because all the African American wud create uprising – Is this America? Please !! Is this politics

I love you Sen. Hillary Clinton – all the best !

Venus   May 15th, 2008 11:25 am ET

Hillary supporters are funny(:

I bet if John had endorsed Hillary today after her big WV – win – they would be saying how they love John Edwards!

I got to hand it to the "O" Team!

They have proved that they are in this game to win and have made some of the best moves in this primary!

NC independant   May 15th, 2008 11:25 am ET

This is a politic game again!! Play game, Dirty game!! They don’t respect voters. They ignore what WV voters said.

Look at the Democrat campaign, they made so much mess inside the party. Do you expect this kind party can be a good leader for the nation? Democrat is not better than Republic NOW. I am tired of them and will not vote the one from Democrat this year.

Kristy   May 15th, 2008 11:24 am ET

I'm an IOWAN – we are 95% WHITE! We are FARMERS, TEACHERS, FACTORY WORKERS!

Obama won Iowa. He actually beat Hillary by a landslide. Those of you saying he can't get the "white" vote are delusional.

Edwards jumped in to squelch the spin. The SPIN! Are people seriously this stupid?

SS   May 15th, 2008 11:24 am ET

Edwards is a rockstar!!! Go Edwards...W007! W007!

dwho   May 15th, 2008 11:24 am ET

The fact is John Edwards is tired of twists and turns that have been going on. One who has the mind of unity always acts in the interests of his/her people not in the interest of himself/herself. This exactly what Edward did. It is time for unity not bickering and fault finding.

Hillary has made history but her persistance for the presidency will be accomplished by another woman. She just paved the way for all women that they can be presidentail candidates. Bravo Hillary for your outstanding competiton but please withdraw now and help unite the party.

twistedglory   May 15th, 2008 11:23 am ET

Yes the Edwards endorsement is very good for Obama, and it could not have come at a better time. Now to other matters like the North American Union, the NAFTA Superhighway, and the Amero. Ask why Bush signed the bill in 2005 to form this Union by 2010!! Ask yourself why all of the presidential candidates are in the council of foreign relations including OBAMA, HILLARY, DICK CHENEY, BILL CLINTON ETC.. Ask yourself why our world is run by 4300 people in the CFR. Why is the world being run by bankers, such as David Rockefeller. Just research it for yourself and you will be surprised what you may find. Watch the movie zeitgeist at google or youtube video. It will explain alot. Think for yourself stand up.
Search the North American Union on youtube.
Youtube and google search words- North American Union, CFR, council of forerign relations

Tammy - KCMO   May 15th, 2008 11:23 am ET

Thank you John Edwards. Maybe now the party can start healing. Hopefully the primaries end soon and everyone gets behind Obama.

Proud West Virginian   May 15th, 2008 11:23 am ET

West Virginians had enough sense to not gamble on an unknown, essentially a Stranger, when out country is plagued with so many problems.

Yes, you are right, we West Virginians do not always think that moving forward is the smart thing....sometimes we get off track and the smart thing is to GO BACK to when things were better. Yes, we prefer the CLINTON ERA to our present era and Dam proud of it!

shaun   May 15th, 2008 11:22 am ET

Someone above said that the republicans will be in trouble of losing in nov if they don't stop pandering on the fears of americans for votes, and start talking about issues that really matter such as healthcare, the economy, the war, gas prices, poverty, and The environment. My question is this..WHEN HAS A REPUBLICAN EVER CARED ABOUT THOSE ISSUES? Republicans have and will always care about themselves and how much they can gain in their pocketbook. They are not the party of the people because they know nothing about stuggling to get where they want to go, it's always been handed to them. Daddy signs them a check and they go to the best schools, live in the best houses, have the best things, and they get the votes from the idiots that envy them. I don't see how a republican ever wins. whenever their in office the economy goes to sh_ _, and we're always in a war for oil, so what's the deal. I think this in itself is a conspiracy.

John, NC   May 15th, 2008 11:21 am ET

Lawrence - Virginia Beach, VA   May 15th, 2008 11:21 am ET

Why are Canadians chiming in. Sorry but we Americans don't give a rats butt that you don't like Obama. In speaking to a Canuck yesterday, he says that Obama is not good for Canada. Again, being an American I care what's good for America, not Canadians.

Sheila, Houston Texas   May 15th, 2008 11:21 am ET

Hillary supporters are fools bill and Hillary are Millionaires Why would her supporter not vote there own interest this time. That's the reason we are in the shape we are in now Whites in this coutry vote trying to keep other races down and they do the realize we are all in this together they do not have separate gas bumps and stores for food we are all hurting. Some whites will not be able to send there children collage so let's start in 2008 voting for your interest and your children not who will keep the other races in there place. the civil rights bill of 1964 changes things in this coutry forever remember the movie Gone with the Wind. The south has the poorest states in the Union the reason is Whites wants it back the way it was get over it your children have they do not see race as a reason to vote aganist something.

THE PARTY WILL NOT UNITE BEHIND OBAMA!!!

HOWARD DEAN IS AN IDIOT!!

GO HILLARY...IF NOT HILLARY...THEN McCAIN!!

LETS START A WRITE IN HILLARY CAMPAIGN!!

MJ, NYC   May 15th, 2008 11:20 am ET

Hillary spoke about Obama and the party graciously during her CNN interview yesterday. Obama did the same of her and the party in his acceptance speech of the Edward's endorsement. "The Supers" should all come out one way or another on May 20, not June 4 so that this thing can still have a somewhat diplomatic ending where neither candidate comes out looking like a hatchete woman or man.

Stephina   May 15th, 2008 11:20 am ET

Obviously, the Clinton's have many enemies, as evidenced by the lack of party support that Hillary has received through this nomination process.

If Hillary is wise, when all this over, she should become an Independent or better yet, a Republican. Why should she support a a party that so obviously, does not support her? She should not.

Obama will never win the Whitehouse, Race will be a factor!!! So, will his lack of experience and his support for far left ideals, which are just too far out of touch with mainstream America.

This year's nomination race has truly proven to me what idiots comprise the ranks of the Democratic party. They entered this election year with a sure win in November if Clinton were the candidate. Then, they decide to support an unknown, in-experienced black candidate with ties to various radicals and un-savory characters.

Mainstream Americans will never elect Obama. McCain will win easily in November. Hillary will go on to write a tell all book and take the earnings from her book to pay back the loans she lent to her campaign.

Brian   May 15th, 2008 11:19 am ET

Let the Clinton Repub supporters continue their whining..... oh no Hillary is going to lose let us cry like the babies we are!

Lee   May 15th, 2008 11:19 am ET

Edwards is disengenuous and weak ...

What a hypocrite ... does he actually expect us to believe his commitment to poverty, when in reality he flaunts his huge multi-kazillion dollar compound (house) directly across the street from poor people ... not to mention his $400 hair cuts, which could feed a family of four for four weeks! Then he waits till Obama is way in the lead, before endorsing him. What weak character ... or, rather lack of character. I doubt his endorsement has any value ... and, anybody who values his endorsement, doesn't have any values.

Jayson   May 15th, 2008 11:19 am ET

In other words Edwards thinks that he can make the obvious racism among many Democrats just disappear because he is oh so popular. Too bad it is too late for an Edwards endorsement to change anything. He missed his chance to make a difference and now he is just some other hypocrite that happens to be endorsing Obama.

Lisa   May 15th, 2008 11:18 am ET

Edwards endorsed a man that lost to Hillary by 41 points. You do the math.

JZ   May 15th, 2008 11:17 am ET

It looks ok that black voters don't vote for Hillary but when whites don't vote for Obama then that looks bad. Thats why he is crying & he needs help.Remember that Hillary is better than Obama & lots for voters can't see why a women can't be president. Bush is a JOKE

HILLARY CLINTON PRESIDENT 2008 BUT OBAMA JUST TALK NO ACTION!!!!

PSMith–Calling Obama a "thug" is about as realistic as calling him elitist. Careful–your true colors are showing. As to your logic: you don't have any. So do us all a favor: just stay home so we thinking Americans can pretend that people like you don't exist.

I have no respect for Edwards now.... There is NO WAY I would even vote for an empty suit who can only read the teleprompter to make a speech and not answer questions directly, "sweety". It is a SHAME that the GOOD OLE BOYS club cannot accept what an AWESOME President Hillary Clinton will be. I am a person who does think a person's character is exemplified by the company he keeps. And when his company includes Wright, Ayers, Farakhan, etc... then I think there is an issue here with judgement and patriotism (so it is ok to wear the flag pin now.....) WAKE UP PEOPLE!

Hillary 2008!!!!!!!!!!

Nothing but hate coming from all of you people. Especially Democrats who want to "bring us all together" with your delusional Audacity of Hope. This country is now hopeless. Too many lazy, spoiled, ignorants...

Rocky   May 15th, 2008 11:16 am ET

When I saw this endorsement on TV last night I was outraged and thought what a sham! This is a real slime bag move. Edwards, who we haven't heard from for months, was sitting back and waiting for the opportune time to make his move and back whoever is winning. Give me a break.. concerned about the unity of the Democratic party. All this is about with Edwards is how to get into the White House be it the back door, the side door or whatever. He can be VP and than next time be that much closer to running for President with this on his resume. I thought it was interesting how Elizabeth was not a part of this- I hope it is not because she has had a relapse. As for Obama, his new type of politics and hope is just another bag of dirty political tricks. My candidate and she is certainly not without her baggage but you learn alot from that, is Hilary Clinton. She has fought a very very tough campaign and is the most qualified. Have we learned nothing from 8 years of an ingenue? As a Democrat I know it would be wrong to go with more of the same with a McCain but it doesn't look like there is much reason to vote. I absolutely won't vote Obama and his side kick Edwards.

Tex   May 15th, 2008 11:16 am ET

The superdelegates already know that Hillary is a loser in the general election against McBush. Tick Tock Tick Tock , the clock is winding down, the money is drying up, the Clinton campaign debt is growing and the delegates and superdelegates are getting on the Obama band wagon. More and more Clinton superdelegates are deserting her sinking ship. The fat lady is singing the "party's over" to the fat lady in pants suits. Obama/Edwards 08 and 12

Hillary must be very disappointed at Edwards, who represented the blue-collar workers before.

I just don't understand how in the world Hillary represents blue-collar workers. She expected to be treated favorably in every possible way. She represents only her own family, the real elitists.

Maybe Repub going Demo   May 15th, 2008 11:14 am ET

Hey you Demos out there ... being a RepublicanI can tell you that I will vote for Barrack if he gets the presidential nom, but in no way will I vote for Clinton. Heck, she didn't do such a great job when she ran the Country before, that's right, she called a lot of the shots while Billy was in office. I know a lot of Repubs that are feeling the same way. We aren't so sure of McCain at this point, and will vote Barrack, but no way Clinton. Also, there's no way I'd put her on as my VP if I was Barrack ... that's giving her the presidency b/c the Clinton family is not the most trusting family–just look at the attorney who 'myseteriously' wound up not able to testify against them in White Water. Barrack would be laying his life on a silver platter announcing her as his VP choice!

John   May 15th, 2008 11:14 am ET

I see a lot of bad taste here. I have been a "Liberal" all of my life, I have never backed away from the "Liberal" label, will never fade in my beliefs and will certianly not be swayed by the "Reaganites" who have tried for years to make "Liberal" a bad word. That being said, I find Hillary nearly as liberal as Barack, and find the differences between them to be minimal. Why the bad feelings between their supporters? I woul proudly vote for either for President, if only to reverse the trend of the last 8 years. To vote for McCain or not voting at all is to say "I don't mind what has been done to my freedoms and my mortgages and my ability to afford to buy gas to go to work or on vacation, go ahead and make my livelyhood less and less possible." Please remember in November that a continuation of the current policies will only make things worse. Vote Democratic in November and watch the country rebound !!! God Bless America and Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton

Recent "lie" watch

Clinton claims she is "ahead" in the popular vote – status – LIE
Clinton claims that she has the "experience" to lead – status – LIE (attended ZERO cabinet meetings – as she was the first lady....not the president)

I heard today that Hillary is claiming she's ahead in the popular vote, next she'll be saying Edwards is really supporting her and just spying on Obama!

This is big for the Obama team, as it's another super delegate, and it's a popular democratic figure, he will help with swing states in the south but I hope he isn't asked to be the VP he's blown that once allready.

It'll be funny to see what fuzzy math the Clinton campaign cook up today.

Eric   May 15th, 2008 11:10 am ET

Things you can read on that blog!

Obama being compared with Bush. Wow, that's clever, the similarities are just so obvious.

Obama's win was a conspiracy. Yes of course, that makes sense, with all the SD Hillary started with, and the stupid media coverage of important matters like flag pin. You do smell a conspiracy here.

Obama playing the race card. I am still waiting for a single example of this.

Hillary is the real change. Well, that was not her first message, it was experience. She took on change when she realized her first message did do any good and then moved on to bomb Iran, to move on to a duck hunt...etc.

He does not have her experience. In reality, he has more years has a senator than she has.

Bottom line, you don't read any good argument against Obama. Which then raises the question, if there is no real argument against him, what motivates all those attacks that aren't based on anything?

That being said, Obama, do not take Edwards as a running mate. He screwed up with Adolph Cheney during the debate. You need someone strong and able to give a punch. That leaves out Richardson too.

NickNas   May 15th, 2008 11:10 am ET

Hillary shot herself in the foot with that CRACKER statement. Many hard working WHITES who AREN'T Bigots ( By far the Majority are NOT) took it personally and she is paying for it now. This is also the number one reason why Obama can never offer her the VP spot. She pulled the lowest card from the deck and shamelessly played it.

The Clinton's are only staying in the race to pay off their $20,000,000 campaign bills and recoup the $11,000,000 they loaned their campaign. As long as she is still running they can get little boys to sell their bikes and contribute to paying off their debt. They are smart enough to know they have lost the nominations fair and square by a near flawlessly run and managed campaign.

$$ is all this is about...

J   May 15th, 2008 11:09 am ET

Obama had to do something to steal headlines away from Hillary's big win in West Virginia and Edwards loves the media attention. Funny how the Obama campaign resorts to those old political games they claim they don't play. No matter how many politicians endorse him (and it will be interesting to see how many favors he has to repay), the Obama people need to deal with his weaknesses instead of trying to pretend they don't exist or cry "race" if someone criticizes him. Hillary's criticisms were nothing compared to what lies ahead with the Republicans. Obama needs to choose Clinton as a running mate so he has someone who knows how to fight, hang in there, and relate to the people. Go to VOTEBOTH.com .

Anita in NC   May 15th, 2008 11:09 am ET

Edwards' had no accomplishments in the US Senate, except trying tto use it as a springboard to the presidency.

This should sound familiar; it's the same play from Obama.

What did Edwards accomplish for the poor since the 2004 election?
Wearing blue jeans on camera while playing with a shovel in New Orleans?
What about Obama as a community organizer, state and US senator? What did he accomplish for the unemployed, under educated, under priveleged and welfare dependent constituents he served

Tex   May 15th, 2008 11:09 am ET

This is a great endorsement and only 141 delgates until the nomination of Obama! Obama/Edwards 08 and 12.

On Bush's stupid remarks about appeasement, the American Jewish community only needs to ask their Israeli friends and family as to what they truly think of George Bush and his moronic remarks. They know George is both an idiot and a dufus! His warmongering approach has made the Israelis and the worl the most unsafe place than any American president in the 60 years of the stae of Isael. They know as the American public knows that George is most definitely unstable.

They know that McBush is if anything worse than Bush. Obama is not for appeasement. He is for world peace and strongly supports Israel.

Edwards made the comment that he couldn't endorse Hillary because he previously attacked her too much. So he was worried about making a liar out of himself. ...

I just hope people see this endorsement for what it is. Edwards himself said that Obama was naive. It's more of an attack against Hillary than it is an endorsement.

If this was the real thing, I don't think Edwards would have gone on talk shows playing "Guess who I'm going to endorse?". On Larry King he even had the glamour light pointed at this eyes like they would do in a soap opera. He's just acting folks.

Brian   May 15th, 2008 11:06 am ET

The Edwards endorsement is important. If not for the movement of his followers but for the pleadged delegates he has. While there is no guarantee they will now cide with Obama. There is a great chance they will. That said, those delgates and a few more SD endorsements may push Obama to 2026 PRIOR to the May 31 DNCC meeting.

If that occurs the race is over and Obama will officially be declared the winner.

We already got Hillary to say that Obama can win and yesterday she told her supporters who are thinking about voting for Mc Sane – that it would be a grave-error and now... the Repugs now know that they have a battle on their hands!

Thanks again John Edwards and Hillary!

Go Obama!

I know that the Edwards endorsement, but what about all of the rest that Obama recieved? HHHHUUUUUMMMMMM. Edwards, Hillary, and Obama all in the White House at the same time. Could be interesting. I don't think that either of them will be the VP, but you could and should see them in other major positions. The best of 3 wolds. Billy Bob has to stay home though otherwise it is all for naught.

Kathie   May 15th, 2008 11:03 am ET

Edwards complimenting HIllary just to cover his back just incase
she can pull this off.. He is playing both ends against the middle.
No real surprise these super delegates are switching sides,
they are only wanting to look good by jumping on the bandwagon
and promote their own political careers.
Washington and politics in general has alwaysbeen nothing more than
" A Good Ole Boys Club" and they are proving it every day .

It's really sad is that Hillary Supporters are being labeled racist now. Read Mr. Navarette's article on this website.

West Virginia is a setup. Obama didn't campain there, so there would be a huge landslide victory. That way Obama can sick his lynch dogs at (CNN) on the white voters. Calling them racist. Intimidation won't make us vote for Obama!

Did you ever think that we are concerned that Obama has no experience and his policies are all over the place? He calls his healthcare plan universal, but it is really optional. His foreign policy is in shambles. Why would we meet with terrorists? Wouldn't that just give terrorists credibility and encourage more terrorism? More than anything, I'm scared that Obama does not support Israel. I heard a speech that he gave characterizing Israel as the reason why we are being attacked by terrorist.

Concerned Democrat and not Racist.

Obama and his team deserve credit for taking on the mighty Clinton machine, who thought the crown was theirs for the asking. He has earned the nomination, he is winning fair and square. Superdelegates who are endorsing him recognise that he is the stronger candidate with great potential.

Why are the superdelegates not looking at the maps? Obama only wins in blank urban areas? Does this represent the full country? The answer is no. I live in an urban area, but I realize that my lifestyle does not represent the majority of people in our country. Urban areas always vote for Democrats whether they are black, white, female or make, but rural areas do not. The CNN maps show that in every state Clinton wins the smaller cities and rural counties. I believe that either Obama or Clinton would win the urban areas against McCain, but the quesiton becomes who can win again McCain in all other areas of our country. Clinton 2008!

Sean   May 15th, 2008 11:01 am ET

It's wonderful. If he would have chosen Clinton, they would be screaming about how powerful this endorsement was. But since he chose Obama, he is an idiot and his endorsement means nothing. The double standards are blatant. A win is a win. Every vote. Every state. Every delegate. Every endorsement. They all count.

This is too funny. The democrat party that opposes any attempt to enforce voter-identification laws is preventing two states from sitting delegates at its own convention, and the most superficial democrat candidate (who isn't even a superdelegate) supports the most hollow candidate.

Obama's rhetoric is empty, he was the most partisan democrat in the Senate and hasn't accomplished a thing in the Senate (some would also say the same in the IL state legislature), and counts his time working for the radical "housing advocate" ACORN as mainstream.

Obama's surrogates basically paint any criticisim as racist and infer Hillary won WV because of white racism, yet nobody points to the +90% of the black vote he gets as black racism.

I think I'm seeing the start of buyer's regret in the democrats. If the republicans had a strong candidate this thing would already be over.

Shawn   May 15th, 2008 10:59 am ET

Hillary lost this election in 2002 when she threw her lot in with the NeoCons and voted for the Iraq war resolution.

Instead of taking a courageous stand she took the political expedient one and went as usual with the shifting winds of public opinion.

If she had stood up then and opposed the war she'd be the nominee today. But that would have required political courage and both Clinton's have shown again and again that they lack that trait.

Casey | Sebastopol, CA   May 15th, 2008 10:59 am ET

It's an endorsement that matters. Now is the time for the rest of them to come forward and make a solid stand against the kind of moronic blather coming out of dubbya's mouth.

Would someone please call the village of Crawford, Texas and have them come get their idiot?

Every person who feels what dubbya said today in the middle east was both outrageous, stupid and typical Republican fear-mongering should find someplace to say so, preferably more than once.

Dubbya is a idiot.

Hillary is the most qualified and strongest candidate for President. She has fought against all odds! This is a quality that is needed in a President right now! This race is not about race....rather it has always been about gender. As more women take their rightful place in society, you will see the Obama's, Edwards, Richardson's , Dodd's come together to fight against women. We, as women, will remember and will show up at the polls to support the most experienced, qualified candidate for President.....who happens to be a woman. Shame on you men, it took all four of you to try to defeat her!

Proud1of 26% in WV   May 15th, 2008 10:52 am ET

John Edwards saw what was happening with Hillary exploiting racism and decided to intervene.Exit polls in WV 20% of people polled actually admitted to allowing race to make their decision.Having lived here for 51 years I know that that number is much higher probably 75-80%. Hillary played into the race issue big time with her remarks about hard working white people.Hillary also is exploiting the old no democrat has one since 1916 without winning WV.Take the time to research this like I did.The biggest win by democrat was 523 electoral votes ,smallest 297.Actual # to win 270.So yes they may have won WV but they could have won without it.Most could have won without WV,PA and Ohio!! Edwards says he endorsed Obama but did not want to seperate the party even more. What a joke. He is doing what he did not want to do. IMO he should have waited to find out who the nominee was before endorsing anyone, since he waited this long. Just because Obama is not getting the older and blue collar white vote Edwards says this is why he endosed Obama. When you come right down to it the bottom line is Obama is black and I feel this is why alot of the blue collar, older americans are not going to vote for him and there is nothing that Edwards can do to change his skin color. This may not be a "politically correrct" thing to say but it is the truth and not to mention they just can't trust him.

Obama may well achieve the 2026 delegate number and win the nomination (based upon existing DNC rules) before Hillary tries to move the goalposts on May 31st before the Rules Committee. What then?

Because Obama was not on the ballot in Michigan, and countless Obama supporters in Florida and Michigan didn't vote in the primaries because they were told their votes wouldn't count, there is no way to come up with a fair method for apportioning these delegates. Obama consistently narrows any Clinton lead in states where he actively campaigns, so it's safe to say that he may have beaten her in Michigan (especially if Edwards were not on the ballot – which would have been the case if Michigan had gone to the polls at the designated time). 12,000 Michigan voters turned out yesterday for Obama's announcement of Edwards' endorsement.

Further, if Florida and Michigan delegates are counted despite the rules violations, there will be a free-for-all in four years – when all states keep leapfrogging to get at the head of the primary line-up.

If the DNC wants to recognize the Florida and Michigan delegates, they might consider either dividing the delegates evenly between Obama and Clinton, or giving Clinton the delegates representing her percentage win and giving Obama the rest (based upon his nationwide lead). In this case, the delegates should be given a one-half vote to discourage states from breaking the rules in the future.

ERIK   May 15th, 2008 10:50 am ET

I'm so disheartened by democrats who support HRC who want to protest vote for McCain. That is cutting off your nose to spite your face, how can you allow someone who wants to hurt you to run this country for another four years just to spite Obama. It will hurt Obama for a while, but it could ruin generations of your family, please think hard about this.

I support Obama, but if Hillary wins fair and square, I would support her too. Because I believe any democrat is better than the best republican. Follow the news carefully, watch what the republicans want to do, they divide to conquer. Till today they have not fixed Katrina, instead they go and pick a fight with Myanmar Junta to give aid to the victims there. They don't really care about the victims in Myanmar, they just want to fight!

After John Edwards wonderful speech, an American we can all proud off, I had to listen to a radio interview where a vitriolic Hillary supporter said that if she wins the popular vote, the Unpledged delegates (I refuse to use the term Superdelegates anymore) have to endorse her.

How can anyone believe the unpledged delegates would break the rules. Give up the black vote, new voters, independents, and college educated white voters to run with older and blue collar white voters. The fact that Hillary supporters say they would rather vote for McCain seems like an interesting way to damage this country. We can afford four more years.

I am beginning to think that Hillary is a lot smarter than her supporters. She is trying hard not to be negative, although her supporters remain abrasive and insulting. I think she is getting ready to broker a VP slot, which is the worst thing she could do. Hillary should become the Senate Majority Leader. She would be the best one this country ever had. It suits her talents and drive. It is also more important and visible than the VP position. .

An Agnostic Democrat   May 15th, 2008 10:46 am ET

Hillary should take lessons from John Edwards on MAGNANIMITY. Oh that's right, she's incapable of anything outside her own self-interest in getting to the lily-white throne.

Sam   May 15th, 2008 10:46 am ET

Check out that picture of Obama next to Edwards at the endorsement. Could he look more arrogant? I guess he's perfecting his version of the Bush smirk.

JP... Hillary said she would take a look and see where she is on June 4th.. after the primary's on June 3rd.. She did NOT say she was dropping out.. which in political translation means:.. I am suing the DNC for the nomination..

Hillary is a woman scorned.. and we all know what kind of wrath that could bring..

Look out..

Linda in Va   May 15th, 2008 10:45 am ET

I'm purely not voting for anyone. Voting people of the USA, do your thing, we are almost doomed after this bush presidency and my vote didn't count last go round. This Bush evil empire will go down in history as the worse thing and times in the USA.

Who cares about Edwards. I thought he had some sense but looks like he don't, just like most politicians.

HILLARY 08   May 15th, 2008 10:45 am ET

Poor obama ,that is all we have heard is nobody wants to damage the poor guy, well he was already damaged goods when he started. To bad you didn't make the right choice,Edwards , and go with Hillary. I guess after thirty years of voting demacrate like my parents before me I will have to hold my breath and vote republican.

CNN – it is interesting that any article and comments that goes against the democrates are either not posted or the comments are closed. If the comments are bashing the Republicans than CNN leaves the comments open.

It was clearly timed..they were saving it for a rainy day...do the party elite think the American people are stupid?

gary   May 15th, 2008 10:44 am ET

He isn't going to win. This race has been fixed from the begining . The media ,O.B. supporters and Clinton haters done nothing but ruin the only real prayer for the changes we need .Bush is right about O.B. talking to the terroist. You all will see when he gives them the invitation to come over to U.S.A. If O.B gets elected our country will fall worst than Katrina,911, any disasters we had in the past. You young O.B. supporters are the idiots believing in to his B.S. You are the idiots voting for someone you know nothing about. He will only tell you what he wants to.He isn't stupid to loose his supporters. You supporters of O.B. are the ones stupid.O.B. has brought nothing but hate, division and racist to this race.He took us back 100 yrs..He sure is the canidate of change. We dont need hstory repeating its self. If he gets elected the African Americans are going to think that we owe them. Its already starting to show. If he dosn't win , they threaten our country with riots etc. Dont you just love the change. God help us all

You think he can be as effective for Obama as he was for Kerry? Glad to see Barack is so steadfastly eschewing the "old politics".

Black Power   May 15th, 2008 10:43 am ET

Ha ha ha. All you Hillary supporters are a bunch of losers!

Obama '08

Bob   May 15th, 2008 10:43 am ET

That was dirty politics at its best. Shows how much Obama and Edwards want to pull the party together by pulling a stunt like that one day after WV. Shows the big win, the big win coming next Tuesday, FLORIDA, and the fact few of the states Obama won will vote blue in November must have him a little scared.

Pol   May 15th, 2008 10:43 am ET

That's OK, but do not take him as a VP. He is not strong enough, in 2004 lost his debates with Cheiney, hypocratic like Clinton and finally uses very expensive barber-shop. Don't play their games, Barack!

Johnny Williams   May 15th, 2008 10:42 am ET

John Edwards got it... One America... Not Two. Barack Obama has never campaigned as a "black" presidential candidate. He has consistently campaigned on the issues that affect America. The reason he is going to win the White House is because he is focused on bringing people together.

Oh yeah... and that "most liberal" label.... if liberal is how you label candidates who actually care more about the welfare of ALL the people than their own personal wealth and security, then liberal is what I'm voting for. I will never support a candidate whose plans and policies don't include the least, the lost, and the last. If the best argument republicans have is "he'll raise your taxes" and don't adequately address the war, the economy, gas prices, home foreclosures, poverty, and health care, then they don't stand a chance in November.

Sean   May 15th, 2008 10:42 am ET

Kuilor: You are proof that racism still exists. Referring to Mr. Obama as Mr. Oreo is blatantly racist, and I for one am shocked that CNN would even allow it. But it's ok because it'll be President Oreo to you.

catjax   May 15th, 2008 10:42 am ET

If Obama wins the nomination without Fla and Michican, I will just stay
home and not vote. Obama is not worth wasting gas.

Susan Missouri   May 15th, 2008 10:42 am ET

Edwards will really not help Obama that much.

Continue on Hillary.

Hillary 08 :)

kim   May 15th, 2008 10:42 am ET

Who cares, Edwards is just one vote... It does not charge the phsycology for me and im just one vote. Who wants a man for president that calls women sweeties. How gross Obama....

morrow   May 15th, 2008 10:42 am ET

And Edward's endorsement (by running with him) was so successful for John Kerry in 2004 . . . .

andrew   May 15th, 2008 10:41 am ET

Hillary should run independent.

Barb Canada   May 15th, 2008 10:41 am ET

I was appalled yesterday.....Starts out with Bruce Springsteen...Na na na na na na na na song......Obama laughs when his audience boos Hillary....Purposely scheduled to offset Hillary's huge win in WV.... and the party dares to call itself Democrats, in favor of Democracy? Not allowing, or purposely sabotaging another Democrat, and have the nerve to say let's all get along, we need Hillary's Supporters??? Good Blloody Luck In November!!

Clinton/McCain   May 15th, 2008 10:41 am ET

On Edwards endorsing a candidate from a few days ago: "What I don't want to do is contribute to the divide." That's exactly what he did!

Eric   May 15th, 2008 10:41 am ET

When everything will be said and done, Hillary will have to think hard about all the mistakes she has done in this campaign. Starting as a favorite, having money, recognition, prestige, and a former president to work for you, she has been able, with numerous mistakes, to ruin her bid for the White House. She certainly wasn't ready on day one and her campaign proved it. Good thing she is not the nominee.

Roger   May 15th, 2008 10:41 am ET

This explains why he lost in his own State. He's backwards.

JP   May 15th, 2008 10:41 am ET

I am an Obama supporter, but I think it's time to stop bashing Hillary.

I just saw her on CNN this morning...she seems like she knows she will not be the nominee. She even said that Barack had a really nice picture on the cover of Time magazine last week. She hasn't been attacking him in recent days, so we should stop attacking her.

She'll drop out by June 3..it's not too far away.

Trey   May 15th, 2008 10:41 am ET

trying to weasel into another vp slot, aren't we?

andrew   May 15th, 2008 10:40 am ET

OH come on Edwards is backing Obama to unify the party? What about the best person for the job of president not who will win be better suited to win. The only way I will vote for Obama is if he Picks Bidden as VP and even then only when the whole gay lover story comes out so Bidden will be President !!!!!

Angel for Obama   May 15th, 2008 10:40 am ET

Eric your misguided Obama will be the champ Edwards will be a big factor.

"Obama 08 enough said"

Linned   May 15th, 2008 10:40 am ET

Come on democrats let's not be mean to each other. I'm sure the Senator Clinton supporters are hurt because of how things are turning out. I'm also sure the Senator Obama supporters are happy about the way things are turning out. But, we all need to put our feelings aside and come together to defeat the Republican nominee so that we can get this Country together. If Senator McCain wins then we all suffer. Some of us are used to a little suffering so it won't be any different for us. But, what about you?

To Independent   May 15th, 2008 10:39 am ET

Independent. John Edwards is not a Super D.
You are very mean-spirited.

AnnT   May 15th, 2008 10:39 am ET

Don't know exactly what impact this endorsement has, but I say great news for Obama. I'm sure there are more to come...hopefully today.

Come on Hillary supporters, let's join together. The obvious winner IS Obama. Let's get over it and accept.

Mikey   May 15th, 2008 10:39 am ET

I hope Obama gets most, if not all, of Edwards 19 pledged delegates. Perhaps we can wrap this thing up by May 31 and take care of FL and MI in a satisfactory manner.

As a numbers guy, I just can't deal with the tortured delegate math we are all being subjected to. Or course, someone will post on this string that HRC is ahead if you count FL and MI, and not the caucus states, double count the "important" states, and so on.... or pehaps "if" the contests were winner take all...or perhaps we should only count "hard working" voters.

Barbara - 65 yr old white female in NC   May 15th, 2008 10:39 am ET

WV gave us Bush for two terms – do we want to trust their judgement in a primary?

Joyce in Florida   May 15th, 2008 10:38 am ET

To say the least, this is another disappointment. I cannot understand why people are so bamboozled by Obama that they just gravitate to him. What is happening? There is something definitely wrong here. I still believe that Hillary Clinton should be our nominee regardless of how much money or pandering that Obama does to get what he wants. It seems to be working and this is really scaring me. If this the person you want running our country? Someone who is so secretive and demeans anyone who stands in his way? Look at Florida and Michigan. Now he plans on visiting here to do what? There are lots of us who don't want him visiting us next week. Why should he come here so he can smooth over our feathers that have been ruffled up since the end of our primary? Not going to work with me. Anyway, had to vent but it will probably make no difference to Senator Obama. Just look at his turned-up nose and arrogance on his face when John Edwards endorsed him in Michigan. This is what we will be seeing if he turns out to be our nominee. Obama supporters and voters will be putting ANOTHER inexperienced person in the White House. Don't you think you have learned from the last eight years? HILLARY 08!!!!!

Abiodun Esho   May 15th, 2008 10:37 am ET

Eddy, good to know you came out at last but you know ,you are just one of those politians that will only want to be around success. If Hillary had been close to win, you would have backed her.

Anyway, welcome on board we could consider you. You know what for don't you

Obama 08   May 15th, 2008 10:37 am ET

Clinton "courted" Edwards' endorsement as aggressively as Obama did. It is just another win in his column.

Jermaine   May 15th, 2008 10:36 am ET

Edwards should've been the Democratic nominee in the first place. Instead we opted for the trendy candidate and we all know trends don't last long. We were so preoccupied with nominating the first woman or black president that we overlooked electability. An Edwards-Obama ticket would've been unstoppable.

I'm fully behind Obama at this point, but I won't be surprised if McCain wins the general election.

Independent   May 15th, 2008 10:36 am ET

Hillary's victory is too little too late. She is in debt up to her neck
and swirling around about to sink in the toilet where, of course
she belongs. What a screw up! It is time to pack up her circus
sideshow and go back whatever hole she crawled out of!

Asta la victoria Siempre   May 15th, 2008 10:35 am ET

That is right, soon there will be more SD , Edwards has broken the wall of silence and specially of fear, that the clintons appear to wrap around everyone including cnn.
she should keep talking the more she talks the more she shows her true colors, and where is billy boo? soon he will scream some other racist comment..
what a sense of entitlement the clintons have _ to be so blunt and just be racist in the eve of a final presidential campaign, they can not let it go of their dreams and fairy tales of the white house..

it is just a sad story but I am sure they will make millions out of it, that is the one reason th ey are all campaigning the tree of them will write a book I am sure.............. "Fairy tales from the White house and beyond" (remember they want to keep it "white," literally and at any cost).

no more dynasty no more clintons NO MAS

Christopher   May 15th, 2008 10:35 am ET

I am totally baffled that someone that wants to be held in very high regard ENDORSE a candidate because he felt that the TRUTH "was becoming too damaging to Obama". ....See this is why Edwards was out of the race to begin with. I mean when you can't say that you are endorsing a candidate because they have prooven to have substance, commitment, integrity, ability, etc... it says to me that THEY ARE NOT ELECTABLE!!!!!

As far as I am concerned Edwards should have when forwards with his BS endorsement many months ago. What's the difference between endorsing him now and several months ago...It doesnt change the fact that Obama ONLY gets high percentages of votes from Afro Americans. (I happen to be afro american) ..When you remove people that have thrown such a blind support behind Obama, what you are left with is everyone else....EVERYONE ELSE THAT IS VOTING BASED ON WHO CAN REALLY DO THE JOB OF FIXING WHAT BUSH HAS MADE AN UTTER MESS OF.

Scott Hughes ATL   May 15th, 2008 10:35 am ET

Why is it that when people acknowledge that Barack will probably be the nominee, they sound like it's the end of the world... And they grasp as straws for every possible way that Clinton can still steal it from him...

I don't get it. Why is it that you can't accept the fact that a capable person is winning (and I do mean "winning" ) the nomination?

He just plain out-campaigned her... Well done Barack... We'll done...

Joe Regis   May 15th, 2008 10:35 am ET

The more Hillary stay in the race the less likely it will be for her to get the VP spot.

She is afraid of faded into oblivion.

She should have quit long ago and wait for the offer.

Now I can't see an offer being made.

Independent   May 15th, 2008 10:33 am ET

Than you John Edwards, I hope the other Supr delegate start his train really rolling towards victory. While I am no Hillary Clinton fan, I would like to commend her for her tireless efforts in this campaign. The majority of the American people are strongly behind Barack Obama, and he is winning this nomination fairly and squarely (no matter that people are still squealing about Fl. and Mi., who broke the rules and Sen Clinton admitted that their votes would not count), and we are ready to reclaim our country from the tyrannical Republican Party. Leave the real work to the next generation because yours already has screwed up this country enough with your power grabbing.
