Rove addressed the NRA Convention Friday.

(CNN) — Karl Rove launched a wide-ranging attack on Barack Obama during a speech at the National Rifle Association Convention Friday, blasting him for his recent comments calling some small town American's "bitter," and suggesting the Illinois senator is an effete politician unable to connect with a broad swath of Americans.

The comments, received enthusiastically by the large crowd in Louisville, Kentucky, are a likely sign Obama's words at a San Francisco fundraiser last month may be a major Republican talking-point should he capture the Democratic Party's nomination.

“You know in the age of Barack Obama I don’t know exactly what to call you, because after all, as he said, because we’re bitter and economically anxious, we ‘cling to our guns and we cling to our faith," Rove told the crowd to laughter and cheers.

"You probably didn't know you hunted out of economic anxiety, and if gas was a $1.50 a gallon, you probably wouldn't be hunting," he continued. “You probably thought you hunted because you enjoyed the outdoors and companionship with family and friends.”

Rove, largely credited with orchestrating campaign strategies that painted former Democratic nominees Al Gore and John Kerry as out of touch with small town Americans, also cited Obama's recent primary losses in Pennsylvania and West Virginia as evidence a large demographic is unwilling to vote for the presumptive Democratic nominee.

"We here have news for Barack Obama," Rove said. "The values of those people you diminished are the values of America. And those people don't like getting patronized, or viewed as an alien species, by a fellow who pretends to embody a new kind of politics, and especially by someone who wants to be president not of red states or blue states, but the United States."

Rove, who does not have an official role within John McCain's presidential campaign or at the Republican National Committee, also took Obama to task for recently wearing a flag pin.

"It is distracting to say in a Democratic primary when you are trying to cozy up to Moveon.org that an American flag on your lapel is a quote 'substitute' for true patriotism," Rove said. "Belittling all those who care to wear our country's flag, calling them false patriots, and then when you focus on the general election, like this week, start to showing up with an American flag on your lapel again. That's distracting."

Obama was asked last October why he normally does not wear a flag pin on his lapel, as many politicians do. The Illinois senator said then he wore one shortly after 9/11, but later decided to show his patriotism in other ways.

"After a while, you start noticing people wearing the lapel pin but not acting very patriotic,” he said then. “My attitude is that I'm less concerned with what you're wearing on your lapel than what's in your heart. You show your patriotism by how you treat your fellow Americans, especially those ones who serve."

Tom in Desoto, Tx   May 16th, 2008 5:45 pm ET

Anyone who reads Rove's bio will see how he became so twisted. He's dangerous.

Doom.   May 16th, 2008 5:45 pm ET

Wrong. Midwestern bigotry, idiocy, and ignorance have NEVER been the values of America.

Otto   May 16th, 2008 5:46 pm ET

Carl Rove, you are a criminal and should shut up. You are as dirty as your mind. Only a swine will listen to you!

Anna   May 16th, 2008 5:46 pm ET

Seeing that flag pin on Rove makes me sick to my stomach. He does not have any concern, care or appreciation of what Americans are. Nor does he have any concern for our constitution.

Dan   May 16th, 2008 5:46 pm ET

Karl, your days in the sun are over. You and your ilk are complete morons and have nearly destroyed our country.

But, no more because McCain has no chance in the fall.

Buh bye, idiot.

So this is what we get from Bush's "brain"? No wonder only garbage comes out of his mouth.

GOP is old news!   May 16th, 2008 5:48 pm ET

Awww.. isn't that cute; Rove trying to stay relevant…..

Linda   May 16th, 2008 5:48 pm ET

Joking about shooting the future president at the NRA convention! Sounds like Bush-McCain are on a roll! No wonder the Republicans are losing!

Darth Vadik, CA   May 16th, 2008 5:49 pm ET

This crooks day is coming, God i hope that Rep. John Conyers personally throws him in jail.

KLM   May 16th, 2008 5:49 pm ET

You know what? I was pissed at Hillary because she fought like a republican against a fellow democrat. (I would've voted for either in the General Election) Now, I can honestly say I'm happy she played hardball because she prepared Obama for these wimps that currently hold office. Mr. Potato Head Rove doesn't have anything to attack Obama on and he really needs to worry if he's going to go to jail.

Republicans have done a disservice to the American people these last 8 years and now it's time for Democrats to take over and unite us once again. We will have a democrat in office and democrats will win the down ticket. Fear mongering doesn't have a place with this new generation and I'm sure you don't want to take us on.

Tyler   May 16th, 2008 5:49 pm ET

Karl Rove's whole flag thing makes me recall a certain Seinfield episode:

Bring it on Rove! You don't want to talk about issues so you talk about bitter and flag pins again? Bring it on!

You're not dealing Dukakis and Kerry here. Barack mopped the floor with your buddies Bush and McCain and he will do the same to you. By the way, what's this about you getting arrested?

What is with Obama, on his website and in the debate sponsored by CNN, he stated he would meet with leaders of countries with terrorist states "WITHOUT PRECONDITIONS". Obama's the master of contradiction and every one is so niave and jump up to defend this man of no experience who listens to every one else.

OBAMA SUPPORTER IN IOWA   May 16th, 2008 5:50 pm ET

Have they issued the warrant on this guy yet. Shouldn't he be in jail by now? Does the NRA have a monopoly on morons or does it just seem that way? Can you give me one use for a gun that doesn't include killing something? Why does anyone need a gun in this day and age? Too much testosterone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

David Belger   May 16th, 2008 5:50 pm ET

Karl Rove he's not in Jail yet? He has done more to hurt this country than almost anyone except his old boss. Maybe they will both go to jail for grand theft. Flag Pin he needs jail strips.

KPowell   May 16th, 2008 5:51 pm ET

Here we go again. Same old formula same old game. Will the voters fall for it? Probably. Will someone explain what this man has done for our country other than try and destroy it?

ROVE VS HEADED TO JAIL   May 16th, 2008 5:51 pm ET

This will probably be his last large statement to the public since he will be arrested next week.

No more political Rove …we will definitly not see you ever again.

Sweet Marie   May 16th, 2008 5:51 pm ET

Why isn't Rove in jail instead of working for the media and the Republican party?

Alan   May 16th, 2008 5:52 pm ET

Mr. Rove

You are no longer trying to either lie to the american public or commit fraudulent political butchering practices in order to get your boss 4 more years - please refrain from attacking those wishing to truely change the sewer like environment being left behind by GW. Thank you - The American Public

steveo   May 16th, 2008 5:52 pm ET

gotta love karl rove. his agenda is limitless when it comes to destroying the political fabric of the US and reducing it to stubborn partisanship and name calling.

Because a distraction is everything we need while we deal with a failing infrastructure, economy, war and educational system…..(rolls eyes)

applecrispbetty   May 16th, 2008 5:52 pm ET

You better hope you don't wind up in prison, Karl. You'll be praying for McCain to get in so's you get your pardon.

Ken in Western NY   May 16th, 2008 5:52 pm ET

I agree with Barack Obama's comments about the lapel pin. I, too, wore an American flag lapel pin after 9/11. I can't remember how long I wore it for, but it was probably for a few weeks, maybe a month. I think those politicians who do wear the flag on their lapel are only doing so in order to look patriotic, especially on the campaign trail. But they don't fool me. I find Obama's attitude a fresh change from the usual politics of Washington, and I am willing to give him a chance to prove himself. He's got to be better than what we've had as our commander in chief for the past 4 terms (Bill Clinton and George W.) . If he gets elected and doesn't follow through on everything he has campaigned for, then he won't get my vote in 2012. But I think of the three candidates, he has the greatest chance of being able to work across the aisle. Clinton is too divisive, and McCain is just another Bush.

Lee-- Dallas, TX   May 16th, 2008 5:52 pm ET

From now on Karl Rove (it hurt to type that) shall be called 'Twisted'. He seems to get alot of things twisted– words, thoughts, using his political position to get someone sent to prison, start a war, etc.

I think the name is just right.

Ed from PA   May 16th, 2008 5:52 pm ET

Over the course of a campaign politicans will say stupid things. Obama acknowledged that he should have worded this differently - but he was saying an honest truth that people are bitter about their government.

It's not as stupid as Huckabee saying someone pointed a gun at Obama in the same meeting… Not even the Republicans are willing to defend that comment.

Sandro   May 16th, 2008 5:52 pm ET

Nevada Mom   May 16th, 2008 5:56 pm ET

Oh, and one more thing…
Let's see Rove deliver such a speech to a different kind of group. Let's say… a group of parents whose children have been the victims of gun violence. Or, how about a group of inner-city organizers trying to rid their streets of guns and weapons. Would he be such a cheeky jerk then? Or, might be have an attack of conscience and actually acknowledge the danger loosely controlled weapons in our society actually pose to us?

Chris   May 16th, 2008 5:56 pm ET

Nothing's more pathetic than suggesting that gun ownership is an "American value"

Cullbaby   May 16th, 2008 5:57 pm ET

Karl Rove is an idiot.
He is the one that is patronizing americans. His comments about people that view Barack as elitist, well, he is insulting their intelligence.
Would an elitist admit to once having to eat off of food stamps?
Would an elitist have had to take out student loans to go to college?
(by the way, he just paid them off three years ago.)
Even if you don't like Baracks statement, many people spoke out and said that they WERE bitter about the things that have happened to them under the watch of the republicans; and for the majority of Bush's presidency, they held the majority in congress.
Republicans cringe nowadays when Karl Rove speaks…
Just look up "Slime" in the dictionary, and there you will see his picture (a bad comb-over and a shiny bald head!).

Steve Sosebee   May 16th, 2008 5:57 pm ET

I am A White Male 58 years old, I think Rove and everyone in the Bush administration should be brought up on charges of treason and war crimes! They have tried to ruin this country with their neo-con ideas and I hope and pray Obama is our next President! The republicans should all be voted out of office for incompetence and dishonesty. Ob ama is much more of a man than W and all the idiots in the NRA!

integrity4life   May 16th, 2008 5:57 pm ET

Has anyone told Karl Rove yet we really don't care what he has to say anymore and what hate he is spreading. After 8 years we have enough of his rhetoric and I am a Republican. And some of us do have a bitter taste in our mouth and are clinging to the bible since it is the only thing we have left after eight years of the current corruption imbedded throughout the Department of Defense industry. This administration had no clue what gas prices we have to pay, I wonder who is out of touch?

charles   May 16th, 2008 5:57 pm ET

hey rove, you got a good supply of ky jelly ready to go to prison with you?

Dusacre   May 16th, 2008 5:58 pm ET

Shouldn't Rove go to the congress to testify about falsely putting an ex-governor to prison?

Ah the big fat hypocrite! Rove, try to do sometime positive for this country at least once in your life.

Naidu   May 16th, 2008 5:58 pm ET

WOW!!!! now the R-part wants to shift the gear in order to make there mistakes that Mr Bush made in other parts of teh world. Rover thinking is not professional but political. But this will not stand in front of teh comments that Mr Bush made.

The Deeper thinker   May 16th, 2008 5:58 pm ET

Here we go again with the "bitter" B S! People please let's not entertain Karl Rove and Mike "out of the race" Huckabee. People are "bitter" and they cling to guns and faith. The last time I checked, the crime rate (Armed Robbery) is closely related to a falling economy. Futhermore, many people tend to turn to faith and religion in time of need and not when things appear to be going well. So, why are people getting so bent out of shape over the word "bitter"? Obama is just stating facts!! Bitter, unhappy, aggravated etc. Grow up, educate yourself and don't be mentally persuaded be the B.S. that the GOP is trying to sell. But after all, look at the level of intelligence the head republican has.

Tim from Eugene OR.   May 16th, 2008 5:58 pm ET

I really hope the house of congress frog marches this "Turdblossom" to jail for not testifying before them. More than anyone, this man is responsible for splitting our countries people and turning us against each other. Meanwhile we are now seeing the results especially in the economy. While he came up with ways to keep us arguing with each other on hot button issues while he and his crowd piece by piece dismantled government regulations over the economy, the environment, and civil rights, and many others. He is an evil man and deserves what congress has coming his way.

Jesusfreak   May 16th, 2008 5:58 pm ET

Jesus says: "Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for their fathers used to treat the false prophets in the same way." -
I paraphrase: If all the hypocrites, the wealthy and powerful blast Obama, it probably means he is speaking the truth. He shows them the mirror and they sure don't like what they see.

Ken Southern California   May 16th, 2008 5:58 pm ET

Rove
We don't need your analysis. Junk like this puts voting Republican in the Fall off limits.

Kiran   May 16th, 2008 5:59 pm ET

Oh Karl, these tried old remarks won't work. Your sleazy political play book is getting thinner and thinner.

I suggest you concentrate on you own woes to come, since you'll be indicted by Congress for sending an innocent governor (Alabama) to jail just b/c he was a Democrat.

Stephon   May 16th, 2008 5:59 pm ET

Greed, Power, Destruction…. A Rover is a wanderer….with no specific loyalty to any one place….

Mike O.   May 16th, 2008 5:59 pm ET

Karl Rove is the "mastermind" of Bush's failed policies and Bush's failed politics. In the Rove/Bush world, policy was only about politics. The GOP is staring at obliteration in November because Republicans enabled Rove/Bush's abusive, dishonest behaviors.

The November smackdown should put Karl out of a pundit job.

Rove, Rummy, Rice, Cheney, and Bush should be charged with WAR CRIMES.

As for Bush, I'm sure he would make his grandfather proud of him. The apple does not fall far from the tree.

(How dare he disgrace this country and mention Hitler while visiting Iarael when his family was "connected" to the Nazis.)

Does he even know the meaning of the word appeasement?

Patricia C. Norfleet   May 16th, 2008 6:00 pm ET

Mr. McCAIN: I think it's very appropriate that Colin Powell is going to Syria. I think we should put diplomatic and other pressures on them..- …. I think they're–they're sponsoring and harboring terrorists. I think they have been occupying Lebanon, which should be free and independent for a long time, but I don't think that that means that we will now resort to the military action…

LAUER: Under what circumstances–under what circumstances would you back military action?

Mr. McCAIN: When we've exhausted all other options. And we have a lot of options to–to exercise. And I'm glad Colin Powell's going there, but the Syrians have got to understand there's a new day in the Middle East.

Values? hunting is a value? You've got to be kidding me. This group of individuals, the NRA, and their supporters are a bunch of god-complexed morons, who think they have the right to hunt and kill animals for fun and sport.

as a LEGAL GUN OWNER in America, I am sickened by the comments of Mr. Rove.

I am not responding to anything concerning the presidential race here, I am only responding to the twisted mentality of any man, woman, and child (yes, there are plenty of children out "huntin with pawww") who find joy in taking the lives of innocent animals.

Your days will come.

Praetorian, Fort Myers   May 16th, 2008 6:02 pm ET

Clearly…Obama has some explaining to the thousands of armed services personnel who salute their flag every day–why he can't accept that icon of freedom and liberty…particularly if he espouses to become the commander-in-chief.
Also…never hold your crotch during a flag ceremony Mr. Obama…it's definite poor flag ceremony etiquette–unless you have contempt for it.

Obama is going to get you. Justice will be served on Rove, Bush and the rest of those no good dirty dogs. How many years did Rove spend in the uniform of the US military. All they do is run their mouths but when they had their chance to show how much they really love this great country they didn't. I am a vet. and I don't wear a flag pin, so what. Hennity,Rove,DICK C, Rush and Bill O. are cowards. Talk, talk, talk but no action. They make me sick.
Soon Rove and the rest will have to call Obama Mr, President. Can't wait until that day.
DEMS. unite against this garbage.

Mike   May 16th, 2008 6:04 pm ET

As usual the comments of the Republican elite of Rove and Huckabee show the racism of the party to all minorities of America. This is pure white supremacy and as a white male this is now showing me that this party is for and only for the white bigotry of America. It is time for America to stand up and be counted and let the Republican out to pasture just like the Federalist party.

OBAMA 2008 and 2012 for a new America

John in Los Angeles, CA   May 16th, 2008 6:04 pm ET

Rove, you're effetely hilarious, overpaid, irrelevant and probably going to jail soon. Of course as a true patriot he didn't denounce the remarks of Huckabee at the gun toters convention.

I can't wait till the detailed facts about you having influence of a Democrat being prosecuted and how high up the chain the cover up went.

Cindy   May 16th, 2008 6:05 pm ET

Karl Rove is the poster boy example for why we need change in politics..

And Mike Huckabee… oops.. that was a dumb joke. I do still like you, but I like you a little less now. No more gun jokes at presidential candidates, please.

Rock   May 16th, 2008 6:05 pm ET

To GOP Rules. You just might be the most ignorant person to have ever attempted writing. Good luck with the Republicans winning any elections in the near future. It is to bad McCain embraces the Bush policies. Without Bush, McCain had a chance…..

RandyT, Denton, TX   May 16th, 2008 6:05 pm ET

Where the hell was Karl Rove during Vietnam? GW Bush? Dick Cheney? etc, etc.

All of them were too BIG a cowards to serve theri country. Eight years of Rove and his body GW and look where we are at?

And a comment about that idiot Huckbilly and his gun comment - Obama ducking when a gun was pointed at him - the NRA should be ashamed of such comments - it just enforces the "gun nut immage".

David D Kollie   May 16th, 2008 6:05 pm ET

Rove wants recognization. His term with G. W. Bush the "decider" is over. It Rove aimless advises that led G W B to decide on the wrong course of action. Let Rove go to the senate and testify as he's been requested to do. There is no more time for the American people to listen his wrong political ideas.

RealDeal   May 16th, 2008 6:05 pm ET

Bless Karl Rove's heart. This is the man who helped orchestrate the lies to the American people regarding the reasons for the invasion of Iraq. He outed a CIA agent - a woman!

Is he lying NOW?

Are his lips moving?

Ben - Portland   May 16th, 2008 6:06 pm ET

Wow. I thought - for a minute there - he was going to say something relevant, but I guess I expect too much from a has been.

Charles   May 16th, 2008 6:06 pm ET

Correct grammer would make your argument only slightly more credible, you ignorant piece of crap.

sally in cali   May 16th, 2008 6:06 pm ET

OMG…do the Republicans have no issues to discuss.

They are upset over Obama's lapel pin or o comment.

Republicans do you not have anything of substance to say.

Rove, it's time to retire. When the trailer pulls out from the White House, you need to be in it.

Deanna   May 16th, 2008 6:06 pm ET

I'm glad to see the circus is in town and Bushleague and all his side-show minnons are showing their true colors. McClown, Huckleberry, Ridiculous Rommey and now Krispey Kreme Karl all lockstepping with not an ounce of credibility in their "Our Gang" attempt to intimidate our potential Presidential nominee is exactly why Democrats have to stand united in November.

I don't care if you love and/or hate Obama/Clinton. These two on their worse day are nowhere near as frightening as this bunch of home grown terrorists that are selling off our country, pride and world stage respect, if they don't run it into the ground first. Hell no! It's time to stop the madness and save our country, our future and ourselves.

LeftyLadig   May 16th, 2008 6:06 pm ET

Why is anyone listening to this not yet indicted criminal or writing about his idiotic comments? His advice for Bush really worked out well, didn't it?

Denny Mac   May 16th, 2008 6:06 pm ET

Gee, I'm from Pennsylvania, been a hunter all my life, and
maybe I'm bitter, I'm bitter cause there is nothing left to
hunt, I'm bitter cause I just paid $57.00 for a tank of
gas ( went to work for a week - used 13 gallons of gas)..
I'll probably sell my guns for golf clubs, it's easier to find
a hole in the ground than a White Tailed deer here in
Pennsylvania.. Been a great 8 years with Geroge, Karl
and Dickie… Manufacturing Jobs are getting harder
to find– maybe they can go to the local Wal-Mart,
they would be great greeters - Welcome to China !!!
I'm not bitter !!!
NRA - No-Real-Answers

mitchell from arkansaw   May 16th, 2008 6:06 pm ET

karl rove should be jailed

Nicia D.   May 16th, 2008 6:06 pm ET

I don't get it. What's so wrong about Obama wanting to be President of the (entire) United States of America (and not just the red & blue states)? Is that supposed to turn people off? I should think not. After all, that statement alone offers "hope" that everyone will eventually be treated equally. The statement Karl Rove made offers "more of the same"…inequality. Not this time…not this year. OBAMA 4 PRESIDENT!!!

Chris - Hemet, Ca.   May 16th, 2008 6:06 pm ET

Hey Karl, your proctologist called, they found your head.

Texan   May 16th, 2008 6:06 pm ET

Rove, how dare you! Anything negative about our King Obama is not allowed here. Got it?

NEVER obama   May 16th, 2008 6:07 pm ET

I agree with Gary………….I'll never vote for obama.

Jim   May 16th, 2008 6:07 pm ET

You may not like Mr Bush, but he is very smart. Obama had to wait two day for his speech writers to tell him what to say because he does not have a clue, and there fore obama lost two days in which he could have been talking about the economy. This is letting Hillary's case get stronger, and stronger.
So many people have been scrambling to spin Obama's naive debate gaffe early on when he said he'd talk directly to enemies. But the fact still remains, Obama had no idea what he was talking about, and he said nothing about preconditions or what he now refers to as "preparation" for such talks.
Our country will be left wounded by the Bush administration only to be led now by an unqualified amateur. But at least, it will be a democrat unqualified amateur;I guess that's something. Just pray that he doesn't refer to some world leader's wife as "sweetie."And remember The flip flopper is Barack Obama. Mr Appeasment Obama was backing the Palestinians just 18 months ago, until one of his aides reminded him of the strong Jewish vote in Florida

The Dude Abides   May 16th, 2008 6:07 pm ET

So this is what American politics has just been reduced to thanks to Karl folks: "OBAMA, YOU'RE NOT WEARING ENOUGH FLAIR ON YOUR LAPEL!!!"

Straight out of the movie Office Space.

And as far as not negotiating with terrorists, why was Rummy shaking Saddam's hand back in the 80's and why did the same clan openly provide Osama and the taliban US made weapons to fight the Russians. Oops, musta forgot about that one, you know, being buddies with the Taliban.

HereWeGo   May 16th, 2008 6:08 pm ET

hum… they are not only bitter and cling to guns, some of them are just flat out prejudice. I hear DIXIE ringing…I hear rev. Wright preaching…I hear America marching down that same ole' path it's always marched down and getting left behind in the world…getting left behind.

Roger   May 16th, 2008 6:08 pm ET

And Karl Rove is a patriot? Karl Rove is a felon. Karl Rove gave us the worst President in history. Karl Rove will go to jail unless Bush pardons him for his shenanigans with the former governor of Alabama. If the NRA, the Republican Party and Fox News want to trot him out for his perverse notions of demorcracy, then fellow bloggers you know all you need to know about them. And what is that you should know?? This group of crazies is more interested inn crearing a fascist state than in uplifting the United States.

darren   May 16th, 2008 6:08 pm ET

I CAN'T WAIT TILL OBAMA TROUNCES MCCAIN AND SMILES ALL THE WAY TO THE WHITE HOUSE!

Peter in CA   May 16th, 2008 6:08 pm ET

Maybe after congress has Rove arrested for comtempt, the GOP's attack dog will have met its match

Bob   May 16th, 2008 6:08 pm ET

George W. Bush could take a dump on stage at the annual NRA convention and the crowd would cheer.

This is a non-story. Just a bunch of white gun-nuts huddling together and decrying the "liberalization" of America. What a joke.

Jake   May 16th, 2008 6:08 pm ET

McCain, Bush, Rove…………………….. that about wraps it up for the Democrats …..Obama 08. I really can't believe that Fox has Rove on thier station as a political analist, he is so biased towards the Republicans its crazy. Lets face it Obama is the man, all they got is what this person or that person said. I'm sure people in America are tired of the Republicans scare tactics, and how they like to twist peoples words. Repubicans maybe should start putting out adds about what they stands for as a party, and go about trying to convince how thier party is best for this country, instead of trying to convince how bad everyone else is. The Democrats will take over this country unlike ever before, and times will be peaceful again.

Ryan   May 16th, 2008 6:09 pm ET

They are SCARED and you can SMELL it.

McCain is about to get TROUNCED in the fall.

Keith   May 16th, 2008 6:09 pm ET

I love how every time Rove talks half the country chokes on their hatred. I don't think that's healthy guys.

Sara from ARIZONA   May 16th, 2008 6:09 pm ET

This is really silly. I don't wear a flag pin, so what? I am still patriotic. Grasping at straws here Rove?

Sweet Marie   May 16th, 2008 6:09 pm ET

oh and by the way, violence is the number 1 killer in the U.S.

Texan   May 16th, 2008 6:10 pm ET

Huckabee, no joke at all about our king Obama. Got it?

No McBush   May 16th, 2008 6:10 pm ET

Hey Rove…. you are irrelevant… do you know what it means…. not even ur own boss G.. W.Bush wanted to keep you ….

Tim   May 16th, 2008 6:10 pm ET

So hes at an NRA meeting, slamming Obama for saying when the chips are down they cling to guns…..and the chips are down for these GOP morons and what are they doing?……..they are bitter and clinging to guns as the big issue.

So in other words…OBAMA WAS RIGHT!
HA!

Seriously   May 16th, 2008 6:10 pm ET

Seriously — is this the best that they can do — and NOT ALL AMERICAN is gun toting.

On the Flag pin - OBAMA is right, you can show it in other ways. I'm patriotic too but I don't wear a flag pin everyday.

I can't believe this is an article or an issue. Typical Republicans — this is why you will loose in Nov!!

Nia - AZ by way of MN   May 16th, 2008 6:10 pm ET

I'm still in shock…Rove had the stones to say something?! Is Obama being punked cause I'm just waiting for Ashton K. to come out and make a stament or something on CNN…seriously…is American being Punked?

Independent   May 16th, 2008 6:10 pm ET

Karl Rove is a thug who belongs in jail. He is a sorry excuse for a human being!

Obama   May 16th, 2008 6:10 pm ET

OMG Get over it..

You are an idiot

Independent99999   May 16th, 2008 6:10 pm ET

Rove/McCain - If this all you got, be prepared to get creamed by Obama in the fall

Repulican party has only one way to come out of this sinking ship. My advice to you:

a) Propose a detailed economic growth plan around FairTax model supported by many leading economists and cash on how FairTax model not only eliminates IRS but propels the economic growth .. Get the backing of hundreds of economists who currently supports a plan like FairTax like Alan Greenspan

b) Set a time line for withdrawl from IRAQ and propose/endorse diplomatic foreign policies like Obama

c) Offer strong health care policy for all Americans funded as part of FairTax initiative

If you can follow the above path - there will be some hope for GOP. If not, be prepared to be cremated.

Obama will sweep the entire nation (all states - no exception), It will be similar to how Reagan did in 1984. The difference being a Democrat (Obama) sweeping it big time,

Good luck GOP. I am a republican leaning (no to higher taxes, no to gay marriages, no to abortions) independent but will vote for Obama unless you change your course

Good luck

Ardnuas   May 16th, 2008 6:10 pm ET

Rove needs to worry about being ARRESTED…..Check out what the Congressman said.
Obama/Hagel ( I want Chuck Hagel to be VP)

I'm sorry, but isn't it true that felons can't vote? Karl, we all know you arein fact a felon, many times over and that you will soon be in jail. So…we really don't care what garbage you spew in the meantime….your days are numbered, buddy.

How the hell you you sleep at night, man???!!!

paul moeller   May 16th, 2008 6:11 pm ET

Huckabee, Rove, Bush. They lie to everybody. People who go to Church. People who don't. Self interest is all that matters to them.
Puritanism - the haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy.

Jason   May 16th, 2008 6:11 pm ET

That flag pin won't clean your hands of the blood of all those kids you helped send to their deaths, Mr. Rove.

Get out of my country.

Ryan   May 16th, 2008 6:11 pm ET

A vote for McCain is a vote for higher gas, less jobs, more war and more misery.

Stop voting against your interests due to fear tactics.

Republicans take you all for fools, don't prove them right.

Tre   May 16th, 2008 6:11 pm ET

When you look up crook, corrupt, major fraud in the dictionary you'll see a picture of Karl Rove. In the near future Karl will reside in a federal prison.

Joe   May 16th, 2008 6:12 pm ET

Does anybody care what a partisan like Karl Rove has to say about Barak Obama. Honestly, Karl Rove would criticize Jesus Christ if he was a Democrat. I think it is pathetic that Fox News can't find anybody better to provide commentary on the Democratic presidential race, but for the life of me can't understand why CNN would give any air time to wind bag like Rove.

Ralph   May 16th, 2008 6:12 pm ET

Quick, find something old to take the heat off of Bush and McCain. Anyone who hates Bush, hates his brain too. Remember, much of Bush's political strategy came from Karl. He only makes Dems and independents more resolve to kick their butts. Karl is gone, Bush will follow, and McCain can work at being the oldest senator ever to serve.
You have to love karma karl, don't you think?

Bill   May 16th, 2008 6:12 pm ET

Carl Rove, Mike Huckabee, and John McCain all belong in a straight jacket, and I am a gun owner who believes in gun ownership by the average citizen.

I am not happy with the NRA and their politics. They are as crazy as the previous three people are.

truth be told   May 16th, 2008 6:12 pm ET

I know many republicans that were willing to vote for Hillary over McCain.

I know none that will vote for Obama.

I encourage moderate republicans to join Democrats who support HRC in the Write in Hillary movement.

joaquin   May 16th, 2008 6:12 pm ET

I think he better shut up and ask democrats to fix the mess that bush did

Shut Up, Rove!   May 16th, 2008 6:12 pm ET

Sen. Obama shouldn't even dignify Rove with a response…he's nobody. However, he should have a surrogate respond to point out the fact that Rove is a nobody….

BIFF, BIFFINGTON...   May 16th, 2008 6:12 pm ET

1) Gary please… go change your tampon… The general election has begun and Shrillary is NOT in it.

2) Fred and mike…… (enough said..) you are dismissed

3) Rove is about to be arrested by Congress, and is attacking someone over 'bitter' and 'flagpins'… YEAH… THIS ONE IS IN THE BAG, BA-BY!

No McCain   May 16th, 2008 6:12 pm ET

Hey Rove… just keep calm and hope that once Obama is President we don't send you to Den Haag for the crimes u have been involved in against humanity…. just keep calm, ask for mercy and hope…u know HOPE….

Odell   May 16th, 2008 6:12 pm ET

Carl, you are the first person I've noticed in a while that looks a lot like something out of a Hollywood scary movie. The funny thing is you don't even have make-up on. You are a natural dummy! Just like your boss "W"

Also, I bet you will still go to jail!!

Stomach ache   May 16th, 2008 6:13 pm ET

Not the flag pin thing again!

Geeze, its probably made in China anyway.

Its amusing watching someone like Rove talk about SOMEONE ELSE being elite.

Jim B   May 16th, 2008 6:13 pm ET

I thought Rove was going to jail.

Michael   May 16th, 2008 6:13 pm ET

Rove is a hypocrite. What's even more disgusting is that he nor Bush will not be on trial for war crimes.

Even though I voted for Kerry in 04, I'm glad I didn't vote republican then.

Linda   May 16th, 2008 6:13 pm ET

McCain, Bush, Huckabee, Hillary, Bill, Liberman, Romney, and now Rove must be very very scared of Obama. I have never seen so many people attacking one person. That shows a lot of fear. I don't see anyone helping Obama. So if you think he cannot stand up under press look at his attackers.

Chuck, Democrats United We Stand   May 16th, 2008 6:13 pm ET

Rove is just another Republican puppet, someone needs to pull their hand out of that mans back pocket befor he says something that will bury the RNC. Transulation: Rove is a babbling idiot that has no place in politics let alone any one listening to the crap that spews from his mouth.

Ken M.   May 16th, 2008 6:13 pm ET

Ironically, it is Karl Rove's extremism that has produced this incredible backlash against the Republican Party. Sure, he and his buddies have made out like bandits in the last 7 1/2 years, but they did so at the expense of Republicans everywhere (ask Louisiana voters). Rove and Bush and others like them hijacked the party for personal gain. And who foots the bill? The Reds. Watch in November.

ernest knight   May 16th, 2008 6:13 pm ET

why do people try to use gimicks to gain approval because i dont think someone wearing a flag pen makes them patriotic i believe people use these tihings life flag pens God bless america to decieve people fear tactics to fullfill there own agenda and yes race we have someone who is trying to show people that honesty can exceed betrayal like the one way today another tomorrow to get elected like john mcain so i have up to point put my vote into barack obama word to the wise don t let your prejudice over rule your intellect God bless america

for you people so worried about a FLAG PIN…how do you feel about Bush KISSING THE KING OF SAUDI ARABIA (the man who KNOWS where Osama Bin Laden is and whose country financed the hijjackers who hit us on 9/11)

How do you feel about BUSH dancing around with that dumb grin waving a sword with the KING of Saudi Arabia? The same sort of sword used to BEHEAD Americans?

How do you feel about knowing that the same hand BUSH is holding (the King of Saudi Arabia's) is the SAME HAND that holds the President of Iran's hand?

Why dont you get upset about Bush getting pimped and him in turn pimping out our sons and daughters so he can stay tight with the Saudis?

Chris   May 16th, 2008 6:14 pm ET

Karl Rove is a gigantic sleaze-bag.

MissyPat   May 16th, 2008 6:14 pm ET

GOP Rules, have you looked in the mirror lately? It is the ignorance of people like you that allow dangerous people like Rove, et al to continue to spread the disease of hatred and bigotry.

If you want another 4 years in Iraq why don't you sign up to fight? If you can't enroll in the military then perhaps you should enroll in school.

vince   May 16th, 2008 6:15 pm ET

I'm not worried about Obama's flag pin, I'm worried about what will happen when he starts pandering and picks up a rifle. He bowled a 36, God help those who are hunting with him!!!

gearman   May 16th, 2008 6:15 pm ET

So what!

Why is Rove belong in the news?

He left the white house under the cover of a possible subpoena, and possible indictment from the US Congress for contempt.

And if pursued will serve jail time!!!!

And he comments are important.

WHY ???

Huckabee's comments will eclipse most of Rove's desires. Rove doesn't know that most of us look at him as a joke. After all he was the brains behind Bush - so are we all happy how that turned out?

The Republican party is flondering.

And resentment is the cause.

Adapt or don't expect a seat at the table. That is after all what this country is founded on - compromise and unity. The world has changed - whether you like it or not.

Obama 08

G. Rodriguez   May 16th, 2008 6:18 pm ET

Carl Rove, who with George Bush, has helped to dismantle the Republican Party, trying to make a comeback? The man that helped get a president elected twice, who currently has an approval rating of 25%.
A weasel who needs to invest in a legal defense fund when investigations can be conducted in an unobstructed manner, after Bush has left office. Oh yeah, I am really influenced by his opinions.

Sarah Rochester NY   May 16th, 2008 6:19 pm ET

Carl Rove you just get prepared for Jail. Were not you indicted to go before congress for your crime? I do not how you sleep at night!!!
Your action has destroyed every thing was American in this country. If any one vote for McCain because of your word then they deserver four more years of Mc Bush.

DJ, LA, CA   May 16th, 2008 6:19 pm ET

OMG - what a loser. Attack Obama on the real issues at least. So what we now measure patrotism by flag pins or "bitter" comments.

No wonder people are bitter with Rove duping millions of gullible followers into voting for the Bush/Cheney propaganda machine.

Speech?   May 16th, 2008 6:19 pm ET

Does anyone know when Obama gives his speech on Sexism- to explain away his "sweetie" comments.

Maybe he can blame his little old white grandmother for that too.

hmmm   May 16th, 2008 6:19 pm ET

"We here have news for the GOP," the American People said. "The values of those people you diminished are the values of America. And those people don't like getting lied to and watching US soldiers die so that an illegal and endless war could be fought, watching the true architect of 911 escape because of outsourcing by your administration, paying $4 at the pump while watching oil companies and Haliburton profits hit record levels, seeing the environment being destroyed before our very eyes, realizing that the gap between rich and poor has grown astronomically in the last 8 years, watching the federal deficit balloon into indescribible proportions, watching our rights being stripped away with the patriot act, cringing every time we go to the grocery store to buy basic food like eggs and milk, and this list could go on and on. You will no longer be able to patronize or pander to us by using manufactured political distractions (ie same sex marriage, border fences, etc) or playing the religion card to obtain our votes. We view you GOP members as an alien species, led by a fellow who pretends he is a great leader but is really the ultimate empty suit, with his puppet strings dancing to the tune of you neocons. Our new president and the new Washington will embody a new kind of politics and we, the American People, will no longer sit idly by as you try to ruin us and strip us of our good name but will fight you with every last vote and take you all down. This is our country, not yours, and we're taking it back.

McCain is going to get all the Hillary votes - enough said.

I think Rove should show that he is now an unbiased journalist working for an unbiased cable news program. He should be playing McCain's video taped interview with CNN two years ago where McCain says that we should be talking to Hamas because they're the country's leaders now—You know, the same Hamas that McCain is falsely attacking Obama over and CNN is giving extra coverage to McCain so that he can do it? Obama said that we should talk to our friends and to those who don't like us, but he specifically excluded Hamas as a terrorist organization and John McCain knows it very well. He also knows that he gave the above mentioned CNN interview two years ago, but his campaign denied it today. CNN has the video, but they aren't playing it. Why?? They endlessly played Hillary's Bosnia and Obama's bitter. Let's see some saturation reruns of McCain's lie. Prove that you're fair CNN.

Is there one Republican who has a brain — oh, yeah — there is. Richard Lugar.

Michelle   May 16th, 2008 6:21 pm ET

for you people so worried about a FLAG PIN…how do you feel about Bush KISSING THE KING OF SAUDI ARABIA (the man who KNOWS where Osama Bin Laden is and whose country financed the hijjackers who hit us on 9/11)

Maxine   May 16th, 2008 6:21 pm ET

Frankly Carl Rove should be in jail for what he did for one of our CIA operatives. I cannot believe he was even asked to speak. Talk about being patriotic, let's tell the world who is working undercover for us, just because her husband pointed out their was no WMDs. Carl Rove is a swine.

Peter   May 16th, 2008 6:21 pm ET

people actually listen to Mr. Rove? Cause if you ask me I think that even Rush Limbaugh has more supporters then this idiot….So overall this is just part of Bush's "Not getting involved with campaign '08″ so McSame can have a "chance" at winning..

Dems '08 (either one of them will do over McSame)

MJ   May 16th, 2008 6:21 pm ET

Rove is a lying corrupt twit.

Peggy - Texas   May 16th, 2008 6:22 pm ET

With the American dream quickly eroding these NRA attendees, who appear at first glance like proud men, do seem bitter and pathetic . I wonder why people vote against their self interest and the interest of the families and friends based on tangential issues like gun control especially considering the fact that Obama’s policies do not threaten gun holders. It appears they have to somehow make believe Obama’s supports a position and has a personality that is in reality far from the truth to allow themselves some amusement- it is sad really.

NY   May 16th, 2008 6:22 pm ET

He should be in jail. Hopefully this will happen very soon……

Beth   May 16th, 2008 6:22 pm ET

Good for you Mr. Rove. While the rest of the people are debating the important issues, you go dig around in the trashcan and resurrect the old, long-forgotten trivia - like flag pins. Way to go!

Obama '08!

Sid-California   May 16th, 2008 6:22 pm ET

Ducking a gunman is a smart thing to do……….. I wonder what people will say about Mr Duckabee and McCain ducking from OBAMA. Huckabee is making a joke about obama when he is a JOKE himself for the Republicans……. the results showed that.
Is he is kissing up (polite words) to McCain to be # 2 or what ? Huckabee You lost…….Go home……Let the winners battle it out.

James   May 16th, 2008 6:22 pm ET

Rove is pure evil. He's the reason we re-elected that idiot of a president.
Vote Obama !

Alex   May 16th, 2008 6:22 pm ET

Is this guy out of his mind! Are ALL republicans out of their minds!!! Its unbelievable and incredibly offensive that any of them would have ANYTHING to say about foreign policy after committing one of the biggest foreign policy blunders in the history of the United States!

ShirleyY - Seattle   May 16th, 2008 6:22 pm ET
