Dark Kent – no it was about rewarding constitutents with lucrative contracts in Iraq reconstruction. Cheney was the CEO of Haliburton and negotiated a 20 mil. severance deal. Sub-contractors also stood to reap huge contracts, not to mention new streams of oil imports for the administrations cozy relationship with that consortium.

Saddam was a convienient target and although not fully cooperative with U.N. inspectors – was no threat to U.S. interests whatsover. Plus we already maintained no fly zones.

Everybody was fretting and going all Chicken Little over the vaunted "Republican Attack Machine" but in just a short week, Obama's shown that unlike Democrats of the past, he won't be crushed by it. He knows he can't just pick up the phone and meet with hostile leaders. The phrase, "without preconditions", is used to illustrate that Obama would not ask for a policy change before the meeting. Bush, and others, have alway said something to the extent of, "we'll meet with you if you promise to dismantle the nuclear facility", or, "we'll meet with you if you free prisoners of conscience." Obama's stance is, "I will meet with you to discuss the end of your nuclear weapons program" or, "I will meet with you to discuss the freeing of prisoners of conscience." One side says a meeting with the President will embolden hostile leaders. The other side says dialogue will not do harm. It's not a flip-flop at all, he's still on message.

Fear tactics. This is a guy who is expected to meet G.W. Bush in Arozna. Tell me, it will be a time for planning lots and lots of fear tactics. McCain should talk about his refusal to grand a GI Bill that he said will be too generous. Especially when he wants to continue the Bush's war in Iraq for 5 more years raising the death tolls of soldiers from 4000 to about 4000 x 2.
What is wrong with McCain face any way. I think the doctor should check that.

Obama's vision, including his willingness to engage Iran, Cuba etc., is exactly why people are voting for him in droves. Out of all of the shared platforms of the dems, this could be the singular reason his campaign is doing so well. Why are we afraid of possible win-win situations?
We have the possibility of a NEW day people. To simply speak to someone does not give credence to oppositional views or elevate the adversary, no matter how repugnant. Obama talking to McCain is a good example.

Mcain's argument that talking to rogue regimes diminishes the "prestige" of the US Presidency is exactly the kind of Bush-like arrogant attitude that has gotten us hated all over the world and allienated both allies and enemies. If talking to Iran has even a slight chance of saving 1,000s of lives and billions of dollars, then why not give it a try? If that fails then we are right back where we are now. Talking to North Korea has gotten us places, why not talk to Iran?

There might be one or two people I've seen who honestly meant it when they said they were Democrats who would vote for McCain or write in HRC rather than vote for Obama. Learning from our mistakes is what allows a person to grow and learn; this means that while we may beleive something and through personal growth learn that what we beleived was wrong. The problem with Bush is that he did not believe that he has made any mistakes so nothing changes. If a canidate has changed their position on an issue because they have gotten new information or beause they are now looking at the issue in a new light; this should be a good thing, it should show that this person has learned from their mistake. Do we really want another president who makes a decision and no matter what new information is received stands by that decision? This is what we have had for the last 8 years, we now need a president that can learn from mistakes and attempt to correct that mistake. Obama has bashed Clinton from the beginning on her vote for war in Iraq; a vote that she has said was a mistake yet Obama has accused both Clinton and McCain of "flip floping" on issues. His attitude makes me wonder if he is saying that when he makes a decision that nothing will make him change his mind; this would be "flip floping" and according to Obama this is a bad thing. Anyone who thinks that Obama will be a "CHANGE" is closeing their eyes to reality; Obama is no different from any other person runing for an elected office; if he is at a rally he will say exactly what the people at that rally want to hear in order to win their vote then go to the next rally and say something different. The fact that Obama accuses someone of "flip floping" because they made a decision years ago and have now changed their mind or position concerns me because once Bush makes a decision he does not change his stance and it appears that Obama will be the same way.

How is it that i am uneducated because I'm voting for McCain. You blame the war on him and Bush and yet even the most liberal senators voted to go to war as well. I know Obama says he was against it, but i guess there's no way to know how he would have voted since he wasn't in congress. You appear uneducated if you think contries that have hatred built up over houndreds of years are going to get along because the U.S. decides to talk with them. I also might be interested in more than just that one issue. Its McCain or Obama and Obama still hasn't come out on issues very clearly. I guess all i can go on are his actions. The last eight years there has been a real lack of leadership. The U.S. relationship with our allies is weaker than anytime anyone can remember. The U.S. standing as the world only superpower has taken has suffered.. McCain for all of his experience is naive. Talking tough and not engaging our enemies is a dumb policy. Regan talked to the Soviets. Nixon talked to the Chinese.

Obama did not say he would meet with the leaders of our enemies immediately. He said that lower level diplomacy would occur first. He calls that preparation. He would meet with the leader if he felt that the leaders of our enemies were serious. Waiting until a laundry list of preconditions were met before McCain would meet with the leaders of rogue countries is weak leadership. Reagan showed that engaging the Soviets and being very frank and honest about the U.S. position with respect to the Soviet Union was an amazing accomplishment. Reagan's persistence helped bring down that evil Soviet Union. Reagan was a strong leader. Bush talks tough while sitting in the White House sending other people's sons and daughters to war. He is a weak leader. It is too bad John McCain has chosen to be a lap dog for George W. Bush instead of being the McCain of 2000. Obama is write and McCain is wrong!
