Sen. Edward Kennedy suffered a seizure Saturday in Hyannisport, Massachusetts.
Sen. Edward Kennedy suffered a seizure Saturday in Hyannisport, Massachusetts.

(CNN) — Several Massachusetts Democratic sources close to the Kennedy family tell CNN the senator and Victoria Kennedy are awaiting more test results and information from doctors before deciding whether surgery is a viable treatment option.

“He is in remarkably good spirits and everyone else around them is just stunned. It is just such a crushing blow,” said one source in constant contact with the family.

As evidence of the senator’s good spirits, this source said Kennedy asked his doctors if he could leave the hospital to participate in this year’s Figawi Race.

Senator Kennedy has been a staple in the sailing regatta for most of its more than 30 years. It started small but is now a big event on Cape Cod: a three day event that includes a sail from Hyannis to Nantucket, a day of events on Nantucket, and then on Monday a sail back from Nantucket to Hyannis. It is organized around a number of charity events and parties.

CNN is being political even in this time of sadness for the kennedy family by this photo showing Obama with Sen Kennedy. Their biased reporting shows no boundaries. I expect to see photos with the family or long-time friends in the senate.

Healthcare - Obama and Kennedy style   May 20th, 2008 4:19 pm ET

This next public display of Kennedys facing tragedy, regardless of the outcome, can end up being a hero's story. Ted Kennedy has been a champion of healthcare his whole legislative life and his ties to Obama puts a face to the trials faced by Americans daily. Our hopes and prayers are with the Kennedys, but this gives impetus to Obama's first 100 days in the White House. Let Karl Rove, Rush Limbaugh and Newt Gingrich try to politicize the ultimate Kennedy Legacy: An American Universal Healthcare and Wellcare system.

Ted we love you and I am going to pray for you that I can see you walk on the stage with your smiley face saying to American people it going to be ok.

Even one negative comment on the forums about this situation is ONE TOO MANY!

One example is "Not much sympathy from this corner."

Kennedy's illness has nothing to do with his politics. So YOU keep your nasty comments to yourself.

It doesn't matter who they are or what they have done or what is wrong with a member of Congress. Whenever these things occur, they disrupt the normal course of things in our government, thus they disrupt our lives as well.

I campaigned for RFK and I was a young twenty-year old one month shy of being able to vote for JFK. I think the Kennedys have bled enough for America.

My hopes and good wishes go out to all the Kennedys at this time.

Why does CNN continue to show Obama besides Ted Kennedy in an article that is about Kennedy? Do you want to score political points using this man's tragedy?

I wish Ted Kennedy well, even if I don't have any respect for his latest involvement in the Democratic nomination. But Kennedy did other good things for America so I guess nobody is perfect.

Get well Senator Kennedy.

This is such sad news….the Kennedys' last remaining member of the original political team, Teddy has exemplified statesmanship and stewardship for the nation.

His older brothers, and he later on, led a whole generation toward caring for each other, the nation and the environment, inspiring us, many of us still in elementary school at the time of JFK's inauguration, actually to believe our actions could affect the greater good. It worked; it's still working, and let us hope that Obama's victory today can carry that deeply needed banner forth.

He has tirelessly championed better healthcare for all, and raising of the minimum wage among other public policy issues. He genuinely cares about other people and that's an extraordinary quality in our leaders.

I'm wondering if a Sen. Clinton's family member had a health problem how many of you Obama supporters would be supportive, or would you be licking your chops with glee? You haven't impressed me in the postings I have seen in the past.

Ted Kennedy has served our country well but is not a perfect man just like so many others who have fallen. Hopefully, he will recover. I still think he made a big mistake when he endorsed Barack Obama.

While Hillary is talking about sexism, I have a few questions.

Once Hillary becomes president, is she going to stop sexual discrimination in the Military Draft?

I ask you, why must my son register for the draft when your daughter does not have to? This is sexual discrimination to its fullest. Why must men be required by law to go and fight for their country when women are allowed to sit at home and watch reality shows on TV. Women have the same civil rights as men but women are not required to fight for them. Will Hillary stop this sexual discrimination in our federal government?

How about sexual discrimination in our courts? Why is it presumed that a female will be a better parent than a male? Why do men have to prove that a mother is unfit as a parent in order to obtain custody of his child? Is Hillary going to change this when she is elected president?

Why are women given lighter sentences than a man when they both commit the same type of crime? Is Hillary going to change this when she is elected president?

Why are women who molest children given a slap on the wrist and the opportunity to write a book about her experience? Is Hillary going to change this when she is elected president?

Will Hillary stand up for equal rights for men as well as for women?

Marc   May 20th, 2008 5:53 pm ET

That's right people.. cling to your religion now. Are you economically distressed, is that why you're praying for Kennedy? If not, then you truly believe, and I commend you. But, wouldn't that also mean Obama is a fool?

I'm fed up with the Clinton "new" math. When I went to school, 2+2 =4. CNN is reporting REAL numbers, not some hypothetical calculation. If it were full moon & the sun shines today, I'd be ahead in votes. How ludicris. The numbers are what they are. You can't change the rules to make the outcome you desire. All the democrats AGREED to abide by the rules, if states moved their primaries their votes will NOT count. I feel bad for the voters of Michigan & Florida, but those states did it to themselves. No one forced them to change. To the best of my understanding, no one has said if someone doesn't like the outcome, we can CRY foul & the DNC will change the rules. If the change benefited the Clinton's it would be interesting if they would be crying "foul?"

fred   May 20th, 2008 5:57 pm ET

You can see sexism in full bloom right here on CNN.
Sexism, Jack, Wolf, John etc….

You can also see racism in full bloom …right here on CNN. Donna and Martin!! Donna was all for Hillary….until a black man got in the race…racism to its fullest!!

Sexism, Jack, Wolf, John etc….

Mauri   May 20th, 2008 6:16 pm ET

As a Hillary supporter, I was sorely disappointed at Teddy's endorsement of Obama. Now, I can see clearly how this all played out — and what a wonderful and appropriate legacy his act will make. Both his brothers fought valiantly for the civil rights causes of this country's African Americans, so it is right and just that he has bestowed his support upon an African American candidate for the presidency. And hopefully, at the same time, this act will go a long way toward putting a Democrat in the White House again.

Good luck and God blessings go to you, Senator Kennedy, and to your family members.
