I can empathize with what Senator Kennedy is going thru. I when thru cancer treatment 5 years ago. Although it wasn't a brain tumor, my doctors surgically removed a malignant tumor, after which I had additional treatment.

The process is obviously stressful on the patient as well as on all of the family members. I pray that the Senator responds well to his treatment and that God will be give him more time with his family and America.

I wonder what our political system will be like after the old guard
hands the riens over to the new. Kennedy was a fighter, yet;
those like obama, pelosi seem not to posses the intestinal fortitude
for a long protracted political struggle.

Kennedys legacy will be his long struggle in human rights in the face
of tremendous adversity, even up to and including now.

When this fiasco is dissected, it will become obvious that Kennedy was the fool that started this inta-party war, and will go down in history as the destroyer of the Dem party.

Wait 'til the Repubs start educating the voters about "Black Liberation Theology".

Anyone who doesn't vote for Obama is a racist?

Margeaux   May 21st, 2008 1:43 pm ET

If I told you that a man was a drunk, abused his wife (first one) and messed around on her AND killed someone, what would you say? Oh, I forgot to add that his name is Kennedy. If he were J. Smith, you would be kicking him on his way to the gas chamber.

I don't remember this outpouring for Mary Jo.

GaryofCircleville   May 21st, 2008 1:40 pm ET

K and Bruce, I am glad you are there, I thought I was the lone historian. Go soon, Toady, spare us the drama.

If you can't be nice to him atleast don't be mean....Having lost a parent to a malignancy recently, I know how hard it is for the family to go through the cycles of chemo and other treatment- not knowing what tomorrow holds for them.....may the Senator and his family have the strength to fight this illness....We have you in our prayers....

brian   May 21st, 2008 1:31 pm ET

Hey Beatrice in Boston..... grow up.

Charlotte   May 21st, 2008 1:28 pm ET

Obama needs you. Who will lead him around by the nose if you don't make it? I almost forgot about Kerry, never mind.
I agree with Former President Carter..Hillary is way too strong for the VP position. Everyone would look to her for answers and he would end up a lame duck. I don't know where he will find a running mate that would be weaker then he is. Maybe Dodd or Richardson? I will write Hillary Clinton on my ballot in November, I will not vote for a Mondale clone.

Charlotte   May 21st, 2008 1:23 pm ET

Ted Kennedy did get away with murder...Maybe Obama could pick Mondale as a VP? They are both far left liberals..

Judy   May 21st, 2008 1:20 pm ET

For God's sake can't the media quit stalking him? The man has cancer. I don't care how much you rationalize he's a public figure. Give him and his family a chance to deal with this in private and with dignity. I find the telephoto shots of him entering the compound truly repugnant. Are you going to somehow infiltrate the hospital so we can all see him undergo chemo? This isn't an episode of HOUSE, it's a man's life.

K   May 21st, 2008 1:11 pm ET

Life Long Democrat:
Mary Jo Kopeckni was a human being too...was she in all of your prayers too? I'm sure she wasn't in any of the Kennedy's...his release from the hospital should have coincided with his release from prison!

May God Bless Senator Kennedy. Anyone who expresses or feels elation over this wonderful man's illness or harbors hatred for him is nothing short of ignorant and can never claim to be a Christian. He has done a lot for the average American throughout his decades in the Senate.

Best wishes to Senator Kennedy and his family. I recently lost my 41yr old brother to brian cancer this year. He was diagnosed with stage 4 in 2005. There are many treatments, some experimental that can prolong his life and have good quality at the same time. Kennedy has a very hard & courageous road ahead.

I hope this story can encourage the congress & senate to do more with the healthcare in our country. My brother was extremely lucky, he needed a very expensive drug that cost almost $4,000.00 per month. We applied to the Montel Williams Prescriptions Across America bus and qualified for the reimbursement. This type of help should also come from the goverment where regulations on drug costs are musch needed.

barb   May 21st, 2008 11:49 am ET

I ADORE THIS GUY AND I'M SENDING EVERY GOOD WISH THAT HE WILL RESPOND WELL TO THE TREATMENT (WHICH CAN BE AWFUL) AND BE BACK ON THE SENATE FLOOR SOON! GO TEDDY!

Billy J Austin, TX   May 21st, 2008 10:53 am ET

I certainly hope Senator Kennedy beats this thing. I only wish he would point out to people that he stayed in the race for president against Jimmy Carter all the way to the convention, even though Carter had it sewed up months earlier by a much greater lead than Obama now. What was Senator Kennedy's rationale? "I am the more electable candidate"

Because we all know how much the country loves ivy league, uber-priviliged yachting types. He is a great Senator and had every right to take his candidcy as far as his supporters wanted him to. I don't think it hurt Carter, other than pointing out there are at least two distinct wings of our party, the populists and the intellectuals. ( I chose work instead of debt right out of high school, so guess which wing I am in )
Not a hater.... just a fighter and a populist, Obama doesn't give me a warm fuzzy on that front... but I will still vote for him when the time comes. Because even 'soft handed' types need their voices heard.

Wayne, Greenville TX   May 21st, 2008 10:51 am ET

I wish the Senator and his family well. I feel a part of them, having watched the family political machinations over the years.

My local paper, the Star Tribune has a blog and I was appalled at the nasty comments from those who did not agree with his lifestyle or politics. Put that aside and honor the man for his achievements, most of which were bi-partisan.

He is a human being first so leave the politics at home!
