Bill Clinton says Chelsea may go into politics someday.

(CNN) - Is politics in Chelsea Clinton's future?

Bill Clinton says maybe.

In an interview with People Magazine, the former president said he thinks his daughter is a natural campaigner who may one day follow her parents into the family business.

"If you asked me [whether Chelsea would go into politics] before Iowa, I would have said, 'No way. She is too allergic to anything we do.' But she is really good at it," the former president said in the latest edition of the magazine

Clinton also said Chelsea was deeply upset by her mother's disappointing third-place finish in Iowa in January.

"It all changed after Iowa," he said. "She realized her mother lost Iowa 100 percent because of younger voters. She was upset, bawled, went to her employer and said, 'Look, you got to let me go or give me an indefinite leave of absence. I'm not letting my mother go down like this.' "

Well, we'll see in time if she gets in.
All I can say is be your own woman, and not beholden to anything your parents did (or didn't do).

    ENOUGH!!
IF it's war that the CLINTONS want, then we will give them something they've never seen before. To hell with the party is what they seem to be saying with their actions.
FINE, we are also prepared to watch the party burn than to let them Hijack this election.

    Bill,

You should be proud of Chelsea. In fact you should learn from her. She took the high road praising Hillary's record and even had to confront questions about you.

Yes, she is a natural candidate and will probably eclipse both you and Hillary. I wish her complete success in whatever endeavor she chooses.

Give me a break. I am sure she is a nice person, but please....... Why in the world is he saying this. All Clinton, all the time, never ending, ever.... Time to move on America. Enough of these people. Billary has done enough damage to the Democrat party.....

Chelsea has alot to learn before she goes into politics. The most important is now to answer questions in a way that does not make everyone upset. The answer that that is none of your business just doesn't cut it with the public.

Chelsea would have a wonderful career in politics. She has grown up with two of the best advisors available and I would proudly vote for her in any situation. In the 90's I didn't support bill Clinton, that's something I regret to this day. They have done a lot for our country and I am ashamed of the way they are being treated by the DNC and the rabid Obama supporters who have absolutly no couth. I sincerely hope things turn around for the democrats in that the right candidate gets nominated, however that looks dim. Chelsea should take this lesson learned and carry it with her as she progresses through the rank and file of politicians. The Democratic party is crooked. It is not our friend and the future will probably lean more towards the middle. Please consider a new party such as the independent. It will strengthen as more and more people become tired of the old guard. Regardless, I wish Chelsea the best and know that she will someday make a great president!

  22. ALL THE WAY TO DENVER

Take it to the convention Hillary. No more stolen elections in America.

In 2000, every democrat was outraged that Bush won without the popular vote.

Are we still a democracy? You Obama supporters are so nasty... You and the media have been trying to run Hillary out of this race from the get go.

I'm disgusted and ashamed of all of you.

Hey CNN where is the story on Obama's flip-flop on foreign policy. Actually, who really knows? Obama can you clarify...

One day Iran is a small threat, the next it is a big threat.

Oh, and meeting with terrorists? Isn't there a reason we don't me with terrorists?

Obama couldn't find his butt with a ten man hunting party.

My advice to Chelsea, stay out of the nastist, dirtist game in the world..Obama has played the race card from the beginning and has managed to divide this country worse then I have ever seen. He has evoked MLK so many times it is unreal. He stole MLK's "the urgency of now." I have a dream was played in SC and Oprah was there talking about MLK and black people. He could not even give Best Wishes to Kennedy without mentioning Civil Rights. I have never heard so much about black people as I have this election. Bill was right about SC, anybody black could win that state. How many times have you heard Obama sound off about being a 46 year old black man being able to run for President? Michelles' "ain't no black people in Iowa." That was in the beginning so you tell me who played the race card.. Every speech he gives has racial undertones. The audacity of hope is all about race.

It wouldn't surprise me if Chelsea Clinton would become a politician someday, following her family's legacy. Politics was obviously a success for both of her parents: Bill being a former President of the United States and Hillary being a Senator of New York and possible future President of the United States.

Chelsea Clinton has a problem. Hillary stated yesterday that she was taking this fight to the August convention, this will ensure a defeat for the Democrats come November and will forever damage the Clinton brand name.

If The supers do not jump before May 31st it will be tooooooooo late and the damage to the Democrats will be iredeemable.

Hillary is on the point of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory in November general.

THe DNC really must make a move now do not leave this until August.

Good Grief...I would NEVER have guessed it! Hmmm is that why she wouldn't take any questions from the press...didn't want anything on record. Oh my, she was under sniper fire with her mommie too wasn't she. She will claim all that experience in the White House and "campaigning" with mommie.

Bill how stupid do you think the voters in America are? You think you are revealing a deep family secret here that none of us recognized from the get go. That is EXACTLY why America is revolting about the Clinton dynasty. America finally got rid of you with your lying, dirt political womanizing ways. We are about to run your wife out of town and hope she NEVER comes back. I'm absolutely sick of the whole Clinton clan.

At least she may be a little more middle of the road. You rant, Hillary shrieks and Chelsea just puts us all to sleep. It's about as exciting as bark on a tree to watch her speak. PS...we WILL remember that your womanizing was "NONE OF OUR BUSINESS". That is on record.

Chelsea has been a life saver for what is left for her mothers campaign. She was too young to really grasp the whole election and campaign process when Former President Clinton was in office.

She has the right routes to get into politics, and its obvious she has two highly talented and highly experienced parents to teach her and guide her to success on the political front.

Sounds good to me – Chelsea's gotten the worst end of being a politician when she was a child. If anyone's got a thick skin and a well known past it is Ms. Clinton. So if she were to go into politics she knows what she's in for unlike Barack who doesnt seem to get why his wife is being scrutinized. Additionally she's got parents who have done a lot for america like them or not. She's learned the tough breaks of a campaign and has done amazing things for her Mother's campaign – putting a younger face on it etc. She's a strong woman and I like her more than Hillary

Once she has been on a city council or in a state legislature of some place she has lived, then it would be easier for her to run for a national office.

Oops, just answered my own question. Hillary took $20 million from the family's cookie jar, now they'll be able to apply for welfare.

Is it any great wonder how a woman worth $109 million managed to call Sen. Obama elitist? Or am I the only one that noticed that?

Here's a scenario. If Hillary ever becomes president (hypothetically impossible) then some day Chelsea will run and tout her parents' combined experiences in politics as hers. Then the Bush twins who will have come of age will run after that, citing their experience as the first daughters, and we are back to the old England our founding fathers weaned us from. Talk about building politcal dynasties.

Good for Chelsea. She needs to stand up for her mother. She is a smart woman. If Hillary was not "white" and the "golden boy" was not "black" this race would have been over a LONG time ago. It makes me sick to see the reverse racism in the Obama camp.
I was a young Republican until the first Clinton Run. I found myself to be a moderate Democrat. I don't like that Obama is so far left, I don't like that McCain is so far right. I like Clinton as she is in the middle. He comment that she is like "goldilocks and the three bears" is right on the money. She is not too left, Not too right, she is in the middle. I would vote for Obama if I could determine what type of change he is attempting to make however, the only changes I have been able to verify from his past experience is the following:
    1) He sponsored a bill in 2004 to create an organization for the immigrants, which alots them housing benefits, special loans, Medicare/medicaid, food stamps, WIC.
    2) He has more missed votes in the Senate than Clinton, but ties McCain in missed votes
    3) His Senate voting record has more "Present' votes than Yes, no or absent
    4) He waits for others to make a decision, then jumps on board and if you disagree with the decision, he places the blame on others

We need a leader that will stand tall and put themselves out to protect us and make sure our future is not dismal. I cannot see that Obama has the capability to lead us and the only place I see him leading us to is distruction, confusion and hate. Not a leader for America.

Chelse Clinton will have a full and happy life, I hope, but the last thing this country needs is a third Clinton in politics. This, from someone who sided with Bill Clinton during the impeachment process and was looking forward to voting for the nation's first woman president. After the way her mother has been treated, despite decades of public service and fighting for rights for all Americans, I'm not sure why she or anyone else would ever bother.

Sen. Clinton has had more lies told and baseless accusations made about her than probably anyone in history. For example: those who keep saying that she signed an agreement not to count the votes in FL & MI – that is completely false. There was no such agreement for anyone to sign. She signed an agreement not to campaign in FL & MI and she did not campaign in those states. For the number of times she has been wrongly accused of lying, she's perhaps the most lied about candidate in history!

BTW, Dean had no problem moving a couple of states up, knowing they would go to Sen. Obama and give him an early boost. South Carolina's date change was certainly blessed by the Obama-supporting Chairman.

Good luck, Chelsea. I hope you have your mother's ability to focus on getting the job done without any expectations of appreciation or respect.

One of the other major blogs is reporting this morning that Hillary is desperate to get on Obama's ticket as VP. She is reported to said that if that can't happen, she would consider the VP spot with McCain. Interesting idea, but Chelsea with McCain would be even more appealing to get younger voters that McCain just can't break through with.

Good for her if she really wishes to run one day.
As a young lady you can only admire that ambition only and only if it is truly comming from her.

Curious though... If Chelsea should run today what would be her experience – " I was the president kid at the white house for 8 years, i listened to my father make/receive some phone calls of national security, foreign policy and economy... and by the way i also campaigned for my mother during her presidential nomination..." GO figure.

Or if she actually ends up in to some sort of political arena, se mayor of NY hahahah. Then she can use that as experience may be.

Hope you are enjoying the circasm in my wording here. Point is i used to admire the Clintons during president Bill's presidency. However, watching them this time going through the do anything to get the nomination process is simply disgusting.

NO ONE DESERVES ANY POSITION IN POLITICS. THE PEOPLE SELECT HAVE THE CHOICE TO SELECT ONE ASPIRING CANDIDATE and that is how it should be rather than using political power and influence even at the cost of deviding your own party.

There's one thing to see and hear your mother and father do and say anything to get elected but another thing to actual adopt that mentality. If she is willing to corrupt her morals and say and do anything, have at it. I hope she is doing this eyes wide open. She has seen how there is no holds bar in campaigning. If she is using her EXPERIENCE campaigning for ther mother as a foundation for her on campaign, she is not going into this eyes wide open.

Slick Willie obviously still thinks way too much of Himself, his Wife and Chelsea. Bill was a good president only by being in the right place at the right time when things were good in America and around the world (thanks to 12 years of republican presidents). Hillary ran and won a senate seat on name only but is going to lose the primary. Chelsea would be able to run on name only as well.

This, more than anything, is admittance that Hillary is done, and they are trying to find new ways to improve their tarnished legacy by bringing the next generation into it.

She'd better start being more candid about how she feels about her parents behavior, because that environment which she grew up in is certainly fair game for voters to understand, in order to better evaluate her own personal set of values and beliefs.

Must be nice to be employed for only a year at a $150,000 a year hedge-fund job and demand an indefinite leave of absence to go on the campaign trial to places like Hawaii and Puerto Rico.

If Chelsea can't answer simple questions about her and her parents public ordeal with Monica Lewinski on the campaign trail, there is no way she will last in politics under intense scrutiny.

I had to battle with my boss just to go on leave of absence(not indefinite), but with the Clintons, it's their birthright!

life must be good for the Clintons; but remember that the good old USA is no Monaco and neither is it a monarchy govt.

ordinary americans do not go to harvard or yale like Chelsea did, work in a consultant firm where she gets paid six figures (over $100,000 for you uneducated Hillarious voters), go on leave whenever she deems fit, and decides to run for office, like her father Bill owns the United States!

life must be good for the $100 million dollars Chelsea Clinton family!!!!

now let me go find some change to fill my gas tank – if only Chelsea can loan me some of nickels & dimes!

Well... I guess she was 13 when she moved into the White House. So, when she turns 48, she'll be able to claim "35 years experience" and run as "someone who is ready to lead on day one".

All kidding aside, I think Chelsea has infinitely more charisma than her mom... and she inherited far more of Bill's wit/instincts... She'll be pretty dangerous in the political arena. I wonder if she'll run for congress in 2010... If she breaks from congress to the governorship of a small state (Probably Nevada, her family has cred in Iowa and New Hampshire)... Then she really could run for president in her early to mid 40's, while both parents are still around to help her run...
By then the country will no longer have Clinton fatigue... and Chelsea hasn't made the catastrophic blunder of endorsing a dumb recreational war (yet).

    Who knows?

I really think Bill and Hillary are addicted to the spotlight. They simply can't and won't believe Hillary isn't going to win–they act like the White House is theirs and they want it back. So it doesn't surprise me that they are looking for another way to get back to the White House. Hillary lost because of her own behavior-I wish they could accept that and move on!

Chelsea Clinton has indicated several times that she is NOT interested
in politics. Bill Clinton just stated that she has "allergies" to politics.

Why does it bother people that this country has not elected a woman president? If a person is not worthy of being president then their gander should not come into play at all.

I would not care if no woman ever becomes a U.S president. This country needs a real leader not one that cries about the media being sexist as well as voters.

It is funny when she gets treated like a women she tells you to treat her like a man and when you treat her like a man she cries like a woman.

Just when we thought we'd FINALLY be done with the Clintons.

I dont think it'll work out too well for her. As much as her mother has done to damage the deomcratic party, no one will take her serious enough to risk dealing with another Clinton. She wont be able to ride on her parent's coat tails as Hillary has tried with Bill.

But Hillary's nasty, demeaning, and poorly run campaign ruined any chance for Chelsea in the future. ESPECIALLY if the Dems lose this year. She'll be known as "the daughter of the woman who costs the Democratic Party an easy election."

Bill Clinton led us (all colors) through the best and most prosperous years in decades and we turn on him like vipers when someone with a few pretty words turns our heads! What did he ever say to make Obama supporters so angry? Did Jesse Jackson not win South Carolina that year? I am sure he was not upset to be recognized as the winner of SC in a previous election. Furthermore, we vote in George Bush and then turn on HIM for protecting us from terrorism! Wake up, people Has there been another 911? The gas prices are not the govt's fault. Let's see, Hillary can't do it, let's try Chelsea. Why should any of us work for a living? It's so much better to milk the public teat. I'm tired of the Clinton rhetoric and values (if there are any). Chelsea should get a real job, one that expects her to work for a living, not just one that fills a void when there's nothing else to do. Chelsea does seem to be bright, but that could also be the Clinton hype. I wish a real person like Condi Rice would run, then we'd have not only a great candidate with true experience, but one that would break the race and gender barriers without having to continually complain about the gender or race card.

From my understanding of history, I always believed that the American Revolution took place largely as a reaction to the dictates and excesses of monarchy and that it was a reaction against the concept of monarchy in general. What has happened to the republic of Washington and Jefferson? Now, more that two hundred and thirty years after the Declaration of Independence, the United States finds itself with the luxury of not one but two royal dynasties – the Bushes and the Clintons. Perhaps that explains why Hillary expected a coronation rather than a contest.

I just don't follow the logic of some of Senator Clinton's supporters in this blog. They are not being completely honest with themselves and many of their arguments lack rationale. I get it if you prefer Clinton over Obama…but to make up things about Obama or resort to calling him every nasty name you can think of as a way to justify your belief that Senator Clinton is the best suited candidate is not just utterly ridiculous, but vindictive and hateful as well.
I've read "Obama played the race card first", but nothing never follows that statement to explain the how or when. Is he being accused of playing the race card just by virtue of him being interracial. I've read Obama is a racist. That again defies logic… the man is interracial (black & white). He's constantly argued that a person's race shouldn't matter. His speech spoke to issues and concerns on race held by blacks, whites, hispanics, etc. In short, he said we need to get past those fears, the anger & hang-ups and work together. You all heard it. Maybe you refused to be believe that he was sincere, but you all heard it.
Senator Clinton made a stupid remark about being the most electable candidate because she has more white hard-working American voters. When has Senator Obama said anything that remotely resembles that? When has he said that he is more electible because of the votes of one segment of the population? Senator Clinton hasn't even apologized for that statement. I watched interview after interview of WV voters stating out loud that they won't vote for Obama because he's black. I don't believe that Senator Clinton is a racist. However, she has certainly made racially devisive statements that made racism seem acceptable by playing on the unfounded fears and the bigotry of those voters who were more inclined to vote against Obama simply because of his race. Yet, so many of her supporters refuse to hold her accountable for it. I don't hold her responsible for the blatant racism voiced by her supporters. But she had a responsibility to affirmatively state that racism should not be tolerated under any circumstances and that she is firmly against it. But she didn't do that because she wanted their votes. She's not stupid. She knew exactly what she was doing when she did it. Neither candidate is responsible for racism and neither one of them are racists. However, Senator Clinton has played on the racism harbored by some of her voters in an insidious manner.
Throughout this campaign Senator Clinton has changed her tune and made irrational arguments whenever something has not gone her way. Every time one of her or President Clinton's arguments fail.. Obama is somehow made responsible (e.g. he played the race card, he stood in the way of Michigan & Florida voters, he is a sexist, he runs the media, etc.) The truth is he ran a better organized campaign, won the most delegates and states. He has not discounted any of the states he lost (unlike Senator Clinton) and he always congratulated Senator Clinton on her wins (again unlike Senator Clinton). Some of the Clinton supporters on this blog are not being intellectually honest.
To both Obama & Clinton Supporters: Being bitter, acting like sore losers, and resorting to namecalling is counterproductive and in no way helps either candidate or the democratic party.

She can do whatever she wants. I don't know why people are down on her and saying she shouldn't. Everyone has a right to go into politics if that is their desire. Even though many of us Obama supporters don't agree with how Hillary has ran her campaign, that is no reflection on Chelsea. I think all intelligent women should be encouraged to become part of the political system and try to change the male dominated sea at Washington. Well, according to our standards of experience, she will be well qualified being she lived in the White House before and is the daughter of the president. I won't be surprised if they have her running for president in 8 years based on all of these "qualifications". I used to love the Clintons but between all the lies, setting the stage for Al Gore's failure at election (thus getting us into Iraq), the way they have run Hillary's campaign, taken illegal contributions and denying everything (Paul vs. HRC, look it up) I can't believe these people have a spotlight in this great country's political process.

I am more concerned about how to finish this election vs. the prospect of Chelsea Clinton perhaps being interested somewhere down the road.

Hillary Clinton simply cannot be VP no matter how much she wants it because of her attacks against Obama and her continuation of divisiveness.

She does deserve something for coming in so strong though. I think she needs to be offered a Cabinet position. Either Attorney General or in charge of Health Care. If she is willing to put together and promote Obama's plans.

Hopefully that will placate her supporters and give her the due respect without compromising an Obama presidency where he really needs to have someone as VP who supports him whole heartedly.

Just what America needs, another Clinton in politics. It will take America decades to recover from the first two. I'm sure that after a short lifetime of learning the ropes from her parents, young Ms. Clinton would bring the same "slash and burn" tactics to the political arena. Please, no more Clintons! Bill betrayed the trust of the American people with his immoral behavior in the White House, Hillary blatantly misrepresented the truth on numerous occasions (By the way, what- ever happened to her signed pledge that Florida and Michigan wouldn't count? So much for "playing by the rules, I guess."), and Chelsea's political acumen appears to consist of "It's none of your business" responses to tough questions. Perfect!

Hey all – cut Chelsea a little slick – no reason to be mean spirited!

Should she talk to the press? Yes
Is she a potential future Presidential candidate? extremely premature
Are there other excellent women out there? no doubt
Are there too many grey haired white guys running the show? absoutely, just look at the Senate

But its our fault – we keep voting them in – over and over

I was just at an high level training event in my industry – this is CEO training for the up and comers. 70% white males, 28% white females (this industry is somewhat female friendly), and 2% other. This problem exists throughout our society.

Stop focusing on gender and race. Stop making sexist and racist comments. That is part of the problem and, as frequently happens, is going to result in the most mediocre of the three candidates left, the old white guy, ending up in the White House.

I'd vote for her if she ditches her parents. They're a bad influence on her, especially Bill.

God has visited the Clinton family to produce one of the best political machine in the history of american politics. Yet the child of the clinton family is prepared from the childhood to take one the world's preferred job. May Americans pray for her. However, her Mom should try to support the would likely be the democratic nominee Obama at this particular point in time if she is willing to make for her child a better road because of her image which was discredited.

PS- Jan, you think it's over the top for Americans to choose the vehicles they want to purchase and drive? No vacations either? We must really be a spoiled bunch.

I'm a Clinton supporter, wheather she follows her parents foot steps or not it don't matter, when people decide who they want to rep them it's not who she knows or where she comes from, it's all about what she brings to the table. If she got what it takes, I don't mind to see her run fo the office and we will decide. I see a lot of hate towards Obama from Clinton supporters, we Clinto supporters have this social meeting as a hobby but not ever once discussed the haterd of Obama, we simply discuss issues that matter to us as DEM's... so that got me wondered, is all this hate towards Obama coming from DEM's or Republicans who playing a hate game with us so they can improve their odds in novemeber???

p.s. my fellow DEM's time to stop being emotional and think with our heads, cause the way I see it Repulicans think we are stupid and fall for their trap once again.

Good luck to us all, at the end I just want to see Clinton or Obama in the office cause of two reasons...one, they are DEM's and most importantly two, they both have almost the same policies that will take us out of this difficulties that we are in because of Republicans.

    With all respect.
I think the Clinton's family are in great need of psychological help.
Megalomenia is killing them...and this country.

The more we learned about them the more they remind me of the Ceausescu family in Romania...or even better, Juan Domingo and Evita Peron in Argentina.

I have made these comments without any political overtones. But I am concerned that just one family can manipulate a whole country...the most powerful and socially evolved country in the world. Let's be vigilant; this is dangerous.
