McCain allows peek at medical records

Sen. John McCain will release his medical records on Friday.
Sen. John McCain will release his medical records on Friday.

(CNN) - Sen. John McCain will give select members of the media a three-hour glimpse at his medical records Friday.

If elected, McCain, the 71-year-old presumed Republican nominee, would be the oldest president of the United States, beating Ronald Reagan by three years on inauguration day.

Presidents and candidates have released records in the past, and some, like McCain, have stipulated that the records cannot leave the room.

McCain, a cancer survivor, is particularly under pressure to prove to the public that he is physically fit for office.

Democratic candidates Sen. Barack Obama and Sen. Hillary Clinton have not made their health records public, but whoever secures the nomination probably will, said David Mark, senior editor at Politico.

McCain has told reporters not to expect surprises, and that doctors told him everything is fine.

We already know McCain is supposedly a cancer survior, so a peek means there is more. In other words McCain has something to hide other than the fact he is just too old. And to say he takes a "babv aspirin" once a day is just plain kookoo for a 71 year old person unless he is taking some other very powerful drugs.

Isn't this a bit too late for the Republicans?
Shouldn't this be done earlier during the primary for all candidates?
Being older doesn't necessarily mean shorter life span.
After 50, people can die of heart attacks or strokes.
The living evidence for Senator McCain longevity is his 96 year old mother.

What IF Senator McCain does have a problem, who will be the alternative Republican nominee?

A peek? What the heck does that mean? Dr Gupta said 100s of pages of mediacl notes will be provided for 3 hours in a closed room with no recording devices allowed. The idea is people will not be able to study the medical records, only skim through some of it. When it is over, no longer will his records be open. Any comments on what was seen will be challenged as being less than accurate, since the records can't be copied or studied in depth, it leaves McCain capable of claiming anything. Great, another decpetion from the Republicans.

why not just give them copies?how many pages are there?most medical records are envelopes stuffed full of meaningless medical jargon, written with poor handwriting.will you be editing any parts of it,with those infamous magic markers?will you give them the entire record ,or just the meaningless parts?just give them copies.you appear to be defensive about them.by the way ?how 'bout them tax records for your elitist wife?

This is amazing. He doesn't have to, it's very personal & yet here he is doing it.
Now if King Obama would release the rest of his tax returns & find those "lost" Senate records, we might have an even playing ground for a general.
Oh wait, King Obama doesn't play on level ground! What was I thinking? It's smear & run on like he would never say such a thing. The old "My Bad" thing.

Three hours for them to review them, can't leave the room but for a bathroom break. Sounds suspicious to me.

a peek? 3 hours? what are you so afraid of mccain?!?!!? this does not look good! how can you trust him? i wouldnt hire him to do my accounting, let alone be the president!!

with his medical history and age, we should know EVERYTHING b/c his age is a very serious issue. look how badly presidents age in their 4 years b/c of the stress; the shrub and bill went in as hadsome young things and have you seen bush lately?!?! ZOIKS!!!!.

and mccain adds to the general stress by not living in integrity, being secretive, lying, the stress from all those things takes a very serious toll on your health on top of the general stress that comes from being POTUS!

"select members" a three hour glimpse.

Wow, so transparent, McCain. You're looking just like Bush and Company.
What is it you're afraid of showing to the media, exactly?

  15. A Proud Republican

If McCain is putting his records up for review then why isn't Hillbo and obomer required to. You dems, especially the first 4 or 5 commentors do a good job at running your mouths. But when it comes right down to it none of you can do the job. And for the bozo who says McCain is not looking good, who are you to decide? What are your qualifications to blurt such a statement?

  16. What are you scared of???

Sounds to me like there is something going on with his health. Why doesn't he just admit that he is too old for the job!!! If I were in the running for VP, I would know its only a matter of time before I could take over!!! Sad!!!

Wow, NO-Bama. You're rather delusional. We've had this same system for the past 30 years. If you have a problem with the way Democrats nominate their president, maybe you should have asked Hillary to change it BEFORE Feb. 5th.

We wish Senator McCain all the best.

However, America should be aware that a man called Romney wants to destroy social security.

it is said that someone from the Obama camp stated that a man with military leadership would not make a good candidate for President of these United States. Military experience and ancestors who served these United States is a Plus+ in my book. What about Ike. If not for him, this world would be a much different place. We would not have any Democracy.

You know you have something to hide if McCain is willing to release his medical records, but Cindy McCain won't release her taxes. What's up with that?
