(CNN) – Barack Obama will take Sen. Ted Kennedy's place in delivering the commencement address at Wesleyan University this Sunday.

According to Kennedy's Senate Office, Obama offered to take the Massachusetts senator's place earlier this week after Kennedy was diagnosed with brain cancer.

"Senator Kennedy accepted knowing it would be an historic opportunity for the school and all those attending, including his daughter Caroline Raclin who is graduating and his son Ted Jr. who is attending his reunion," Kennedy's office said in a statement. "He's enormously grateful to Senator Obama and the support he's received from all of his colleagues this last week.”

Kennedy is sick and needs a substitute. Let's not make this into a major story.

It's really sad to see how people have such hate in their heart! Who here wouldn't do something like this for their friend?!?!? How DARE you accuse someone who is doing the HUMAN thing that he is doing it for "Political gain" or for "free advertising"? Last time I checked...Barack has all the "free advertising" he can handle at this point...he doesn't need anymore. He's a gentleman and a good friend! I'd rather have him as a friend than some of you because you don't even understand the concept of stepping up and being there for someone in need. Maybe you've never been the person in need. I love the move Barack!

Since Hillary's supporters think the DNC and America should be moved by them threatening that they won't won't if Obama is on the ticket.

Then that can go both ways.

If the nomination is STOLEN then I too will vote for McCain.

    (see how stupid this sounds)

For all of the retards who keep saying that Obama is using the speech for a political ploy should really learn to read because the article clearly stated that Senator Kennedy asked him to deliver the speech and O did not ask to do it, believe me Obama does not need to gain any advantage he already has it well under hand.

this is directly from the article...

Kennedy had hoped to deliver the commencement address at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn., Sunday, where his stepdaughter, Caroline Raclin, will be among the graduates. However, he has persuaded Sen. Barack Obama to stand in for him.

Wesleyan students helped Barack take the Middletown area in our primary.

Bill Belichick graduated from Wesleyan. It's a great school from a great state.

The scholl plans to simulcast it. Can't wait to hear it!
