Clinton apologizes for RFK assassination comment

BRANDON, South Dakota (CNN) – Sen. Hillary Clinton said Friday that she regretted comments that evoked the June 1968 assassination of Robert Kennedy as part of her explanation for why she was staying in the presidential race late into the primary season.

Earlier Friday afternoon, she told the editorial board of the Sioux Falls Argus Leader that "My husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right? We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California. I don't understand it," she said.

Clinton complained that "people have been trying to push me out of this ever since Iowa" and said that position "historically ... makes no sense."

Later at an event in Brandon, South Dakota, she said, "earlier today, I was discussing the Democratic primary history and in the course of that discussion mentioned the campaigns that both my husband and Sen. Kennedy waged in California in June in 1992 and 1968, and I was referencing those to make the point that we have had nominating primary contests that go into June. That's an historic fact.

Update: During an interview with Radio Isla Puerto Rico on Saturday, Barack Obama reacted to the Clinton RFK comment.

According to a quote released by the campaign, he said, “I have learned that when you are campaigning for as many months as Senator Clinton and I have been campaigning, sometimes you get careless in terms of the statements that you make and I think that is what happened here. Senator Clinton says that she did not intend any offense by it and I will take her at her word on that.”

That is what she is counting on. She realizes she can't win with her mind. Her and her husband are devils.

This is not as bad as her telling the country how concerned she is for all voters rights when she is trying to over turn pledge delegates count saying they have a right to change their support. What about the voters rights then Hillary? Come on people, she will do and say anything to win this. Stop voting for her just because she is a woman. If a Man had made all these lies and misstatements would you vote for him?

Sounds like she's dancing on Robert's grave. What a nutcase.

I'm angry at the superdelegates for making us wait so long. I don't think they're so super because they don't have guts, or brains. They all seem so afraid of the Clintons. Come out, come out wherever you are. Jeesh.

IF ANYTHING HAPPENS TO SENATOR OBAMA, ...................THAT'S WHAT SHE'S WISHING FOR, AND WHO KNOWS IF SHE'S NOT PLANNING IT.

How many times can she mis-speak? How would she present herself to leaders of the rest of the world with all of her mis-speaks?

Agree with the comments of playing the victim, using the gender card, saying and doing what she thinks it will take, playing both sides with Fla and Michigan, etc. But I'm also wondering why has no one mentioned the flawed judgement of a "leader" who is 20 million dollars in debt and keeps digging the hole and disregards expert opinions on the economy. Of course no one is mentioning the wisdom of people who think all of this is okay just to get a woman in the White House. I am a woman, and Ms. Clinton does nothing to further women or to indicate she's anything different than the males that have come before her. She's the same, just in a woman's body. We don't need a leader who will bankrupt America just to make a point.

I haven't even read through these "Comments" yet, and I can already anticipate numerous hate-filled from the Obama people who vent here, jumping at any opportunity to insult Sen. Clinton. Amazing.

I would like to ask Americans why they are not suporting Hillary Clinton. Mr. Clinton was the greatest President of the USA. on behaf of him Hillary is a very carismatic lady and could do much more to the America and rest of the world. please give her a chance in this election on November 2008 to become a lady president of America. I also would say barak Obama is also young and doing well but he could run the election in 2013.

the reading comprehension skills hinted at by all these comments is astounding. did anybody actually read what she said? has everybody gotten so used to having our country run by such a bunch of intellectual lightweights that they cannot recognize a historical reference when they see one? there was no improper use here. anybody who interprets this remark as one ominously foreshadowing are reason to hang in there until June is just ridiculous. give me a break. oh yeah and another thing, I had rather have a smart lawyer (either one of them) run this country anyday. cnn, terrible, biased reporting, just terrible.
