Watch Bill Clinton's remarks about the state of the race.

(CNN) — Former President Bill Clinton said that Democrats were more likely to lose in November if his wife Hillary Clinton is not the party’s presidential nominee, and suggested some people were trying to “cover this up” and “push and pressure and bully” superdelegates to make up their minds prematurely.

"I can’t believe it. It is just frantic the way they are trying to push and pressure and bully all these superdelegates to come out,” he said at a South Dakota campaign stop Sunday, in remarks first reported by ABC News. “'Oh, this is so terrible: The people they want her. Oh, this is so terrible: She is winning the general election, and he is not. Oh my goodness, we have to cover this up.'"

The former president added that his wife had not been given the respect she deserved as a legitimate presidential candidate. "She is winning the general election today and he is not, according to all the evidence,” he said. “And I have never seen anything like it. I have never seen a candidate treated so disrespectfully just for running.”

“Her only position was, ‘Look, if I lose I'll be a good team player. We will all try to win — but let's let everybody vote, and count every vote,’" he said.

The former president suggested that if the New York senator ended the primary season with an edge in the popular vote, it would be a significant development. "If you vote for her and she does well in Montana and she does well in Puerto Rico, when this is over she will be ahead in the popular vote,” said Clinton.

“And they're trying to get her to cry uncle before the Democratic Party has to decide what to do in Florida and Michigan” – which the party would need to do “unless we want to lose the election. "

The current requirement to claim the Democratic presidential nomination is 2,026 delegates, a formula that does not take into account delegates from Florida and Michigan, whose contests were not sanctioned by the party – although if those votes were to be counted as cast, Hillary Clinton would still currently trail rival Barack Obama in the overall delegate count.

The former president said Sunday that the media had unfairly attacked his wife since the Iowa caucuses, repeating an often-used charge that press coverage had made him feel as though he were living in a “fun house.”

"If you notice, there hasn't been a lot of publicity on these polls I just told you about,” he said. “It is the first time you've heard it? Why do you think that is? Why do you think? Don't you think if the polls were the reverse and he was winning the Electoral College against Senator McCain and Hillary was losing it, it would be blasted on every television station?”

He added, “You would know it wouldn't you? It wouldn't be a little secret. And there is another Electoral College poll that I saw yesterday had her over 300 electoral votes…. She will win the general election if you nominate her. They're just trying to make sure you don't."

I was in favor of Hillary staying in until June. And now, BC's comments convince me its time for her to go. Shame on him for playing the victim card.

New Yorker   May 26th, 2008 11:35 am ET

This is only a taste of things to come if Hillary were to become president. 4 years of saying that people are picking on her because she is a woman.

Obama leads in the popular vote…
Obama leads in the delegate count..
Obama leads in the states won…
Obama leads in the national poll…
Obama leads in super d's…
Obama leads in donations…
Obama leads in American confidence…

Obama leads America to change in the White house.

OBAMA '08!

Between Bosina, renegging on FL and MI and now the dog whistle she blew to her redneck supporters to help her out so she can win…add that on top of all the other Clinton issues and she NEVER had a chance to win. I hope her female supporters understand that and do not blame Barack Obama for her failings…She was not the right girl…We will find a better one who actually has the gall to not take her husbands crap.

Manuel TX   May 26th, 2008 11:35 am ET

Bill is telling the truth.

The left in the Democratic party (and the media) have been incredibly disrespectful toward Hillary.

The Obama campaign has also done a good job of gaming the nomination process, but unfortunately it won't translate to the general election. There are no caucuses in the general.

Good luck to the left…I'm voting centrist.

:)

TR   May 26th, 2008 11:34 am ET

The bottom line is The Clinton Campaign underestimated Sen. Obama and his campaign. Sen. Obama has played by the rules. Many in Fla and Michigan did not vote because they new their vote would not count. Sen. Obama was not even on the ballot when Sen. Clinton's name was. Sen. Clinton did not worry about MI and Fla votes until she fell behind and Sen. Obama has always said Mi & Fla should count, just in a fair way. Sen. Clinton has not been attacked any more or any less than any other candidate. Its all politics and it is playing right into the hand of Replubican strategists.

youngdemocrat   May 26th, 2008 11:34 am ET

Bill Clinton is 100% right!

The Democratic establishment never liked the Clintons because they were the change–people who could ACTUALLY stay competitive in midwestern and southern states and win elections in landslides. They still don't like them. Yet, they ARE the people who WILL win in November. They understand America unlike the establishment does.

The Democratic Party will KILL its chances with Barack Obama in November. We need CLINTON and we need HER now!

–a soon-to-be Independent thanks to the Democrats

Mary   May 26th, 2008 11:34 am ET

As a HRC supporter, I saddens me to see how the Clintons are pulling out the stops in there quest to see that Hillary is the nominee. At this point, it may be time to put your personal aspirations aside and look at what is good for the Democratic Party as a whole, because it worries me that the split in our party may cause us to lose the White House in Nov.

I cringe when hear a HRC supporter say that they will vote for McCain or not vote at all if Obama is the nominee, because if you think that things will improve if McCain wins the White House, how truly mistaken you are–I will support HRC to the end, however if she is not the nominee, I will vote for Obama (and remember, Obama and Clinton are much closer on major issues) because I much prefer him in the White House to McCain in the White House

Monica Lewdinsky   May 26th, 2008 11:34 am ET

Gee - I seem to remember Bill saying (quite recently):

"If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen……"

It is LONG past the time when BOTH Clinton's need to be put out to pasture - as 2 of last century's worst political specimens.

Unfortunately, I live in NEW YORK - so I have to put up with the whining loser for another 2 years (or longer if we are stupid enough to re-elect her). She fooled me once - in 2004. It won't happen twice.

Bob   May 26th, 2008 11:34 am ET

I think Hillary should run on the Independent ticket if she is cheated out of the nomination. Bill….Bet busy and get everything in place to put her on the Independent ticket. She will WIN!!

Bacall   May 26th, 2008 11:34 am ET

Hillary has not been treated well. President Clinton has been in politics many years and knows how it operates….she has the right to stay in the race until the last primary. She would make a great President but again this country is ruled by male dominance and still can't stand to see a women win. The democrats will not win the election unless Barrack can win the swing states and right now it is showing he cannot. We need her one way or the other in the general election………

Eric   May 26th, 2008 11:34 am ET

Bill, you are still on top of your game. Lying to everyone without a blink of a eye, attacking everybody instead of looking at your own flaws, you haven't changed a bit. The country has though, and doesn't trust anymore.

scott, Tampa, FL   May 26th, 2008 11:34 am ET

the bottom line is that most people don't trust the Clintons and the democrats are like a disfunctional family. The good people dont run anymore because of the lying and cheating going on in the campaigns. whatever happened to we ran the race and lost? stop blaming everyone else for everything that is wrong in your life and campaign. admit defeat and go home hillary. the republicans have done more for this country than the democrats, though they are too far the other side.

I REALLY HOPE that some kind of conspiracy comes out on Sen. Obama. People are so hard on Pres. Clinton!! He is a human being. If most of you had the chance to cheat on YOUR WIFE, and bang some chick 1/2 your age at YOUR job, you'd do it!!!! Let he who is without FAULT cast the first stone!!!!!!

TRUST ME, Obama is NO ANGEL!… Always be wary of what you DON"T KNOW!!..

Roofin Reality, Houston, Tx.   May 26th, 2008 11:33 am ET

President Clinton, I think you did a world of good in your eight years as President. But here are some numbers I swa recently:
Zogby has Obama winning by more than 6% over McCain as of 5-21

Rasmussen has McCain and Obama tied at 45%
By the way, they have Obama up 10%+ in Minn as well as being up in Penn and New Hampshire. Lastly, they have Obama as a 62% chance of winning in Nov.

Gallup has Cliinton up 5% over McCain. BUT, McCain up 2% over Obama.

Pollin Report has Clinton up 5% over McCain. BUT, McCain up 2% over Obama.

RealClear Politics has Obama up 2.8% and Clinton up 1.5%.

So, just a small sample says both of them can win. The catch is whether or not the losing side helps the other side.
Bottom line, the rules at the beginning says whomever has the most delegates win. Period.
So, if you want the Supers to decide, remember they're also deciding on their own fate. They know with HRC at the top, those rabid Reps will come to polls to vote against her, and then also vote down the line, putting their spots in peril.
Obama won't bring those rabid Reps against HRC to the polls, but he will bring all those new voters he's activated this cycle to the polls. And when they vote down ballot, they realize they will get most of that support. So, if you want the Supers to decide, remember this is the prism through which they see their decision being made.

Peter   May 26th, 2008 11:33 am ET

This "victim"-card is pathetic. Clinton is NOT being pressured out of the ract, the fact is:
Obama is ahead in the popular vote
Obama is ahead in pledged delegates and has been for months.

A couple of months ago, Clinton-camp was "begging" superdelegates to support them, now they say "evil superdelegates are pushing us out".

This tactic is pathetic and I hope the american people isn`t stupid enough to fall for it. Clinton has NOT been treated bad by the media at all.

"It's the ELECTORAL COLLEGE, stupid!"

Losing respect and dignity!!
He needs to Clam it up
I paid big money to hear him speak once up here in Canada
Now….I wouldnt pay a plug nickel
they are SORE losers!!!!
They just cant stand the fact that Hillary met her match in Senator Obama..a force she wasnt ready for!!!!
Dont worry Bill, Senator Obama will pick up many votes and especially if he picks the right VP like Jim Webb !!
It sure wont be Hillary after all the negativity and devisivness!!
The republicans are sitting back laughing at this debacle and YOU

Shannon from Washington   May 26th, 2008 11:33 am ET

Do they not know how desperate they are sounding? At first I was mad at Hillary for being such a victim and truly setting back the feminist movement that us "hard-working" women have worked for decades to promote. Next, I was saddened by her inability to grasp with her own mismanagement and failures in this campaign. Now, I truly think her and her husband need medication. They have gone off the deep end and it is no longer amusing or a spectacle to watch, it is very sad.

Dee, St.Louis   May 26th, 2008 11:33 am ET

Hey Hillary supporters, you continue saying that Hillary is the best candidate and would beat McCain. Answer one question, why didn't you people financially support your candidate? Why is Hillary in debt? So, Hillary gets the nod and Obama's supporters pay off Hillary's debt NOT THIS TIME.

Tom Hopkin   May 26th, 2008 11:33 am ET

Don't you realize Bill that if the nomination is taken away from Obama with his insurmountable lead, the party would come apart and there would be no chance of a Democratic? victory in Nov. You and Hillary are making fools of yourselves. Grow up and get out of the race!

jujub   May 26th, 2008 11:33 am ET

Bill - Your wife is losing because she ran a negative inept campaign. She gave no respect to the small states and caucases (which helped you win the nomination in 1992). And, your absurb point that she is winning the general election by pointing to the electoral map is another joke…remember when your wife said the electoral college should be abolished after she won the Senate in 1992? Now you conveniently use it for your benefit.

Ralph Benno   May 26th, 2008 11:33 am ET

MR Clinton has good points
1. there is a cover up and a political set up. If we recall Mr edward has asked Hilary to quit ater the Iowa Causus..SInce then we have seen a deluge of peope asking her to quit. The funny part is that people are voting for her.

2 There is a party conspacy to push forward black man..instead of a woman.Yes I beleive that America is still sexist.

3. Out of all the people Mr Carter. He has lost all credibility in my mind. A true Judas. The way he wanted her out of the way quickly.

This is the waya it will look…No matter how much Hilary wins , the party will not accept her or accept a woman nominee.

I will support Hilary if she breaks up with the democratic party and run as independent for the sake of America. HELP US.

If not, A lot of people and including myself will cast the vote for McCain..It is just 4 more Year..

For all the women in America..Do not kid yourself, the democratic party is not the party who can help your cause…Move forward.. Now is your time… This primary has shown how hypocritical the democratic party are to you cause..

GO hilary if not.GO Mc Cain

Hello, nobody has stopped her from running and it is only the math and the rules that has stopped her inevitability of being the Dem presidential candidate. Unless Obama drops out of the race, he will win the delagate race. The delegate math is the RIGHT thing to watch and follow; anything else smacks of elitism or chicanery. I am not sure what the "solandored" on Clinton supporters speaks of above is all about, but if you are talking about slander and pushing the edge on civil discourse, you don't have to look further than the dirty hands of Bill and Hillary in this race. It alsoi amazes me that Hillary and Bill get to shout 'foul' anytime someone points out the reality of their situation or that they are in fact part of a PARTY where members are supposed to work ultimatey for the common good (hey, at least Romney knew when it was time to bow out)- is it a case of reverse sexism where nobody wants to be percieved of fouling a woman, or is it simply a case where folks are too scared of the Clinton power and their tendency to make Judases out of people who speak their mind?

Bill this is Why Al Gore didn't want you Campaigning for him .He did win the popular Vote and the election of 2000.But the Supreme court overulled the votes in Florida. You didn't fight for him after that happened. You didn't say he was a Victim ,but you did go on tour with BUSH 41 .I believe you two have some dealings. The Bill I remember knew that these Bushes where toxic to the World let alone the U.S.

Now you want to Fix an election just like they did. I believe you will take this to court and then the courts will decide the primary.

Scary another Black man in a court fighting for freedom .On many levels it seems to be an ending that we see all of the time.

Bill, there's never been a more dedicated supporter of you than me. You and Hill's conduct during this primary has made me sick to my stomach. It's time you both stop this painful down spiral of self respect. One thing I've learned thru-out this process is that you both have nowhere near earned the respect that I've given you thru the years. Your thirst for power, in spite of the rules of the party, has made you & Hill look and act like you've lost your minds.

Tom   May 26th, 2008 11:32 am ET

I know the obamakins will shout this down and make their usual derogatory remarks but the latest polls from Rasmussen show Obama losing to McCain by 2 and Hillary beating McCain by 5 while beating him by 8 in swing states. She's the best candidate to win the presidency and she always has been.

Bill and Hillary have played the race card, the gender card, and now they are palying the conspiracy card. Is Bill now saying that Hillary is a victim of the big bad boys? Please, give me a break. It is pitiful. They expected a coronation on February 5th. Now, they are refusing to admit they just ran a lousy campaign. I voted for Hillary in Texas but now I'll never vote for her again.

Donna   May 26th, 2008 11:32 am ET

First it's sexism, now it is a conspiracy, soon it will be Alien interferance…how about the truth? she is losing because of HER INEPT, DEBT RIDDEN CAMPAIGN…It's always easy to blame others for you losing instead of saying what YOU DID WRONG…Bill needs to look in the mirror..he is a BIG PART of why she is in the boat she is…

The only conspiracy are the MILLIONS of folks who want something and SOMEONE different in the White House…why can't they just understand that folks don't want Hillary and leave it at that…

Talk about ego!!!!

Delegates unite and send her home to Bill. We don't need her or Bill to beat McSame.
A vote for McSame is a shot in your own foot.
A vote for Obama is a vote for a better world.

Annette   May 26th, 2008 11:32 am ET

Please do the math, before lashing out… do the math…this contest is about delegate math. Once again it's unfortunate that the "experience" campaign did not pay attention to the math. Bill continues to say if this was the general election… this is not the general election this is the primary. This is the kind of thinking that's gotten the Clinton camp behind in delegates. What happen to the experience that they should have learned from the "experience". The campaign is winding down. The argument comes on the hill of that.

Larry from Georgetown, Tx   May 26th, 2008 11:32 am ET

Bill and Hillary, we have some moldy cheese in our refrigerator to go along with your whine. It's tough living a life of constant lies and frauds.

My question to the “under 30 generation” who for the first time in their lives “found their voice”… in Obama…..where have you been? Why not until now have you not exercised your right to vote? You place your faith in a man who has not been tested, pocesses little record of accomplishment and little to no experience in international or economic matters. For shame!

Life to you folks seems rather simple. I suppose in your minds, Obama offers a sense of entitlement — your time has come. The simple fact is that if you look past his rhetoric there is little substance. You buy into his chant of “change..yes we can” with little thought as to the complexities involved in bringing about change. Some of you worship him like he is a “messiah”, here to save us from ourselves. He may in fact be anointed the nominee, and you like him, will think nothing can stop you. The simple and relevant truth is……. One can fool some of the people some of the time…but not all the people…. all the time.

McCain may represent a party for which I may not find a lot of common ground however, I respect his honor, integrity and sacrifice to our country, the scars of which he still bears as a testament to his courage…. And I will place my hope for change in him. He has earned my respect and most likely my vote and the votes of millions of others who feel the same way.

For the sake of our country and that of our future….thank god there are more of us than you, and we will not allow this fantasy to continue past Nov. DNC party chairs and uncommitted superdelgates…..you either stop this false prophet now….or we will do so with our votes come Nov.

PhilT   May 26th, 2008 11:31 am ET

Hillary has been slandered and treated so disrespectfully just for running?

As John Lennon said, Just give me the truth, all I want is the truth.

Hillary -
"Obama is a christian, as far as I know."
"You can't choose your family, but you can choose your pastor."

Well, you may not be able to choose your biological family, but you could choose not to stay with a cheating, lying, whining disgrace of an ex-president like Bill, who unfortunately I voted for twice. (Had I known then what I know now).

"Sniper-fire in Bosnia."

"I have 35 years of service (really?), John McCain has 35 years of service, Obama has a speech he gave in 2002."

"Sexism is obvious in this race, there is no racism, but he can't get the votes of working, hard-working, white americans."

"I always opposed NAFTA."

Bill, why don't you and the missus go on a long vacation? You clearly both need one, as do the american people need one from you.

Stop Pushing Women Out   May 26th, 2008 11:31 am ET

I've never seen any candidiate for office treated as terribly as Sen. Clinton has been treated. The democratic establishment has acted outrageously in trying to push her out of this highly competitive race. The media has been utterly biased against her and blatantly in favor of Obama.
The whole thing is disgusting. If this were a movie, everyone would say that the outrageous way she has been treated is over the top and unbelievable.
I am disgusted at the Democratic party and I'm a life long Democrat. I will vote my conscience in November and will not fall in line with this conspiracy by the establishment to push aside the female candidate. I will also consider all of this as I vote down my ballot in the other races in November.

Her resume is an embelishment, her decision to support the Iraq fiasco is an embarresment, and above all her maniacal obsession to control this country is at the very least frightening and her legacy remains as the single most destructive personality in our Democratic Party.

Amazing how when the chips are down the Clintons resort to the victim card. The night of the debate between her and Rick Lazio in her first run for the Senate the local news discussed how poor her performance was. By the morning the entire talk was about how he intimidated her when he approached her. Attacks on her husband were "vast right wing conspiracies." Now that she has run an inept campaign with no plans or ground troops for after Super Tuesday, she must be a victim again. After all, when the Clintons do not get their way they usually see it as someone elses fault.

Polls 5 months out don't mean anything. What were the polls saying about Clinton winning the Democratic Primary 5 months ago? For that matter, wasn't McCain wasn't doing so well in the Republican primary 5 months ago. You show me one poll where McCain beats Obama and I'll show you two that show Obama beating McCain. But it doesn't matter this far out. McCain hasn't even been tested by a close campaign like Obama. There's a lot we will find out about McCain…a lot.

These two will stop at nothing!!!! Obviously if Hillary is not the nominee there must be something wrong with the system, or the voters, now it's a conspiracy. If what Bill is saying is true, then why is Obama favored over John McCain my 10 points while Hillary is nursing a 1 point lead? You've been so fond of pointing to polls, lets analyze that one for a bit.

This is truly pathetic! Hey Bill these past two weeks are the exact reason the voters have rejected Hillary, this nomination is not somehow owed to you; it's not a birth right. June 3rd cannot come soon enough!!!

Obama '08

MarilynJonesLadig   May 26th, 2008 11:29 am ET

Bill Clinton, you are not the same person I voted for and vehemently defended in the 90's. Hillary is NOT winning in any way shape or manner. You and your whackadoodle wife are helping only McCain.

lizzyh   May 26th, 2008 11:29 am ET

If anyone should know about covering up… I guess he would!

Ryan   May 26th, 2008 11:29 am ET

If Hillary Clinton is not on that ticket come November… after all of the millions who have voted for her including myself… then I will be voting for John McCain. Too much media and Obama supporters have trashed my favorite candidate.. early on if she didn't win I said I would always support the demicrats but not this time. Myself and family will be voting for John McCain.

Dealt   May 26th, 2008 11:29 am ET

Desperation, bad taste, unethical. Bill's going downhill fast. Once this is over, both he and Hillary will be international laughingstocks, whatever the oucome.

sdn   May 26th, 2008 11:29 am ET

I am shocked by the behavior of former President Clinton. He is tarnishing his legacy by doing this. He and Hillary were also trying to "sway the Supers" their way now he's calling foul simply because they were swayed towards Sen. Obama. The Clinton's are truly disgracing themselves.

James   May 26th, 2008 11:29 am ET

This is so sad. Bill Clinton had been forgiven of so many sins by hstory, only to bring all of us back to the divisive politics of the 1990's

Do you think history will forgive the Clintons a second time for destroying the nation's first African-American Democratic Presidential nominee ?

D.Kimbro OHIO   May 26th, 2008 11:29 am ET

This man is insane. Remember Bill you are also affecting her senate re-election campaign. I wonder what the poeple of New York think?? This was her ultimate aim was to try and become president. Now that dream has died, they want to prolong the agony for everyone because they feel hurt. Get over it and get out now!!! By the way Bill thanks for screwing up the banking system, with dergulation. We are still paying the price for that one.. I hope all of you so called democrats continue this folly. Please vote for McCain so we can be rid of you posers.

Mark Schulte   May 26th, 2008 11:28 am ET

The only reason I could not vote for Hillary Clinton is because then Bill would be "back". I liked him as President but his behavior and commnets throughout this primary season shows he has totally "lost it".

Tim MN.   May 26th, 2008 11:28 am ET

I never liked Bill but I always have liked Hillary and what he says is true! What is going on here? Why are the democrats nominating a person who is a sure loser he can't win the democrats are split 50/50 on this and the independents say they will vote mcCain! And all these past nominees who lost by a landslide in their elections endorsing Obama? And everyone is like oh! we better endorse him too. If everyone recalls the Cinton era however tarnished was the most profitable ever. we werent at war we didnt pay $4 for gas the entire world adored us. so we are just going to hand the Election to McCain? I say more power to ya at least I can now vote for Barr!

Andrew (Toronto, Ontario)   May 26th, 2008 11:28 am ET

It kills me how the popular vote is now the new criteria for deciding the nomination. Hillary didn't care much for the fact that Florida and Michigan's votes wouldn't count at the time the decision was made. All the presidential candidates had to sign off on this, where was her uproar and concern for the voters then? It wasn't there because she thought she had the nomination wrapped up (entitlement). Who is the real elitist now?

Ray   May 26th, 2008 11:28 am ET

Sad. Just sad.

Jen, Gainesville   May 26th, 2008 11:28 am ET

The voters and the media have been extremely tolerant of Hillary. If it were another candidate, he or she would have exited the race more than 10 times. No "victim card" !! They have played the race card, the gender card, the fear card, and now the victim card. They are so divisive, even at this moment. What a shame!

Dick in Sioux Falls   May 26th, 2008 11:28 am ET

RRO: If you choose not to know Obama's plans for the country, that is a choice, not the reality. Obama has been clear about lifting the cap on SS taxes. It makes no sense that working stiffs pay SS taxes on every penny they ever earn, while the CEO of EXXon-Mobil, when he got a $400 Million Retirement Bonus, he paid not one penny in SS tax because his first month's salary that year maxed out his SS contributions. Only Obama has supported this idea, along with Sen Orin Hatch of Utah, hardly a liberal. Hillary has too many wealthy friends for her to support the idea. Did you know that? Lifting the cap would insure the fiscal health of SS and Medicare through all future generations.
If you wish to know Obama's detailed plans for the economy and foreign policy, look them up online. However, I don't think you really want to be confused with the facts. You'd rather continue to spread disinformation, like your candidate.

Kevin   May 26th, 2008 11:28 am ET

Bill's idea that it's nearly June and superdelegates are making up their mind "prematurely" is laughable. If any superdelegate declared their support prematurely, it was those that did so before any votes were cast, and that was when Hillary enjoyed a nearly 100 superdelegate lead.

Clinton Supporter   May 26th, 2008 11:28 am ET

Eventually Obama and Co. will figure out that they need Clinton supporters to win this election. She trails Obama by a miniscule number of delegates and leads him in the popular vote. remember, they may find an arcane way to eliminate Florida and Michigan for nominating purposes, but they don't get to revisit the general election vote to make it go their way. Only Republicans get to do that!

While Obama may make a show of embracing the woman his campaign has cast as a racist power hungry monster, his rather nasty supporters as evidenced on these pages, may not. What if they howl when Hillary makes a pro-Obama speech? Hmm…

At the very least, the Obama camp should embrace Hillary's far superior health care plan in exchange for her public support. Otherwise, why would she do any more than pay lip service to them because she's a loyal Democrat and will at least show up. I'd rather see McCain and no new health care plan so we can start fresh after the Obama 4-year interruption. We've waited this long. What's another 4 years?

That is, until she's booed or publicly insulted by one or more Obama worshippers.

paul   May 26th, 2008 11:27 am ET

Here is the truth, from Hillary’s own words and actions.

Hillary: The Politics of Personal Destruction
by David N. Bossie

the book and the movie uncover Hillary’s record of cynicism, controversy, and scandal and establish that the "politics of personal destruction" is Hillary’s favored approach to dealing with anyone who stands in her way.

jozap   May 26th, 2008 11:27 am ET

His comments show no connection to reality.

If they count FL & MI with 0 for Obama, then leave out all the caucus states, change a few more rules, Hillary could win. But that is not what is going to happen.

The Clintons just don't know how to leave the race gracefully or without doing as much damage as possible to Obama and the party.

Mia   May 26th, 2008 11:27 am ET

Well, Hillary's not going to be President. And good riddance. I need a decoder to translate the true meaning of the comments coming out of their mouths.

The media was all to willing to deam her the winner even before the first vote was cast. The Clinton's glory days are over.

I find the Clintons to be very good at getting folks riled up, but not so good at explaining things…

AN OHIO VOTER   May 26th, 2008 11:26 am ET

Well said, President Clinton, well said!!

I keep wondering why the DNC has treated Hillary the way they have and also why they have treated you with such hatred and disrespect. Why are they so afraid of Hillary?? Why can't Obama close the deal instead of encourage the "get out Hillary, get out" mantra? What is going on in the Democratic Party and the main stream media that they are trying to cover up? Obama is suppose to be the candidate who will unite and bring about Change…All he has done is divide the party with the help of the "old guard" Dems (Kennedy, Daschle, Dean, Pelosi, Kerry) These people do not represent "change", they are old Dems. Hillary is a very strong and viable candidate.

WHY DOES THE DNC HATE THE CLINTONS???? WHY DOES THE MAIN STREAM MEDIA HATE THE CLINTONS? WHAT IS THE RATIONALE HERE?? WHY ARE THEY AFRAID TO COUNT THE VOTES AND SEAT MICHIGAN AND FLORIDA??

KEEP TALKING BILL AND KEEP FIGHTING…YOU TAUGHT HILLARY HOW TO FIGHT!!!! DON'T EVER GIVE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HILLARY ALL THE WAY TO THE WHITE HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

john california   May 26th, 2008 11:26 am ET

Do any of you honestly believe that Obama can win the general when he can't win any of the major elcetoral states? Do any of us really care that he won in south carolina when he didn't win in California, Texas, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida and Michigan?

On another note, stop blaming Florida democrtas for having an early primary. Their governor and their legislature (both Republican) moved their state primary up, not the Florida democrats. How is it fair that their votes hsould not be counted?

Eugenia Mulholland   May 26th, 2008 11:26 am ET

Obama has received a great deal of exposurer on television and Hillary has not. I thought in U.S. the popular votes counted and we had a say on who was going to be the candidate for the President. Doesn't experience count? Are we going to elect a president who can charge up a crowd and have all these people on his coat tail telling him what he should do? You don't hear that in Fl. the state government is republican and that is who changed the voting date. Why isn't that in the news?

granforchange   May 26th, 2008 11:26 am ET

Bill is right, that Hillary has a right to continue, he is worng that, if Obama is the eventual nominee, he is obligated to pick her. This again, is the double-faced-ness of Clinton, The loser dies not deserver anything but to be respected. The problem with the Clintons is that they believe their own poli-speaks. Hillary and Bill set up the divide, a strategic move. The thought was to bring this out later on (as with now) saying that "these are our and only our votes." If Hillary is not on the ticket then they will defect to McCain. This suggests these so-called supporters of Clinton only vote for her - the person - not the plan. What is curious to African-Americans, is why is it so hard for some people to do for once, what blacks have beeing doing ssense we've been allowed in the voting process. Though people don;t want to lose, its okay when and if we learn to lose with grace and respect. Clinton has not lost yet, but there is no respect, nor grace, in the way she or Bill is running her campaign. And what is worse now, if the Democrats lose in November, regardless of who is on the ticket, the Clintons will shoulder much of that blame. Now, they have positioned themselves such that the only way they will ever gain serious respect is if Hillary is on the ticket, she delivers in those so-called swing states, and they win. Otherwise, who would ever respect the CLintons again. Cerainly not African-Americans, who for the most part, loved them, and certainly not their fellow Democrats.

Al is wrong!   May 26th, 2008 11:26 am ET

Al, From Atlanta if she ran as an indipendent, she would be handing over the Presidency to McBush.

If she did that, she will never be President.

Al form Atlanta - If your not a republican than your comments are idiotic. So, your solution is for Clinton and Obama to split the blue states and McCain to win all the red states, huh? Clever!

bilco   May 26th, 2008 11:26 am ET

As someone who knows an unpledged delegate, what I can tell you is that she is sick of getting non-stop calls from the Clinton campaign. Five or six a day.

The Obama folks calling once a week to see if there is anything they can do to make her mind up - in other words, they are respectful of her tme.

Larry of Boston   May 26th, 2008 11:26 am ET

I do not have to like Bill Clinton to agree with him, and I do agree with him 101% on this perspective.

let the Obama supporters now come out and throw more dirt on the Cintons - absolutely shameful bahavior - shameful.

Ed, Santa Fe, NM   May 26th, 2008 11:26 am ET

Boy these CLINTONS just cannot accept losing, huh? They will subvert the Democratic Party in retaliation for Hillary's LOSS. They will work against Obama (even though they say they will support him) and hand the election to GOP.

Why would Clinton say anything like this when Hillary has already lost? But they hang on, hoping for dirty back-room politics to hand her the nomination. Is this the new Clinton Fear Tactic?

The more these CLINTONS whine and cry, the more I hate them.

Roper in Denver   May 26th, 2008 11:25 am ET

Prior to the beginning of the primaries, the DNC established the criteria to determine who would be selected as the party's nominee. There would be primaries and caucaces conducted to award delegates. Delegate total ( both the standard and the "super" variety) would determine the winner and nominee. Those are the established rules. Not total popular vote. Not who believes they have more momentum. ETC.
My 4 year old knows the rules to GO fish. She does not like losing. But when she does, she deals with it. Once Hillary has some free time, I can have my daughter explain how to accept the rules of the game.
I voted for Bill Clinton twice. They are disgracing their legacy more than the stained blue dress ever did.

Reese   May 26th, 2008 11:25 am ET

Bill, would you PLEASE just SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!! I am so tired of you and Hillary playing the victim. Why is it always someone else's fault when things don't work out the way you want them to. When you point the finger at others there are three pointing right back at you. You don't have to admit it to the world they you may have something to do with your current situation, but you could at least stop blaming it on everybody and everything else.

Sarah L, Fayetteville, AR   May 26th, 2008 11:25 am ET

Hillary is not a victim. What kind of leader plays the victim every time they don't get their way. That's not being a fighter, it's being a sore loser.

Furthermore, Obama is ahead in general election matchups against McCain while Hillary barely ties McCain.

Donna   May 26th, 2008 11:25 am ET

Bill Clinton is 100% right. The media completely ignored John Edwards, they wouldn't give him the time of day, and the only time we hear about Hillary is when they have something negative to say. In all honesty, I wasn't sure I was going to vote for her, in the beginning. Now, I am 100% positive I would vote for her. If she is cheated out of the nomination…..I will either vote Libertarian or I will not vote….Bill is correct, Hillary has not gotten the respect she deserves. Why? Because she is a woman!

OBAMA ALL THE WAY   May 26th, 2008 11:25 am ET

This is so despicable! What would they be saying if the person who won: - the most votes
- the most states
- the most delegates
Was denied the nomination!
Just because the Clintons came into this thinking the nomination was owed to them, and they would have smooth ride with no competition, doesn't mean they have to be such a sore looser!

THIS COMMENT IS SO DIVISIVE!

JR   May 26th, 2008 11:25 am ET

I voted for Bill Clinton… twice. I will never vote for Hillary with everything the Clinton's have said and done to try to take this election. For the sake of the country, your legacy and the Democratic Party, please stop.

Jen, Gainesville   May 26th, 2008 11:25 am ET

If Hillary is the most disrespected presidential candiate in recent history, it is because her conduct of the campaign that has made her lose respect, not because of any sort of bias against her. As a woman, I feel ashamed by her conduct and think her experience sets back the clock for other female politicians to advance their careers.

Foggy   May 26th, 2008 11:25 am ET

Well here it is once again. Bill Clinton lying to the American people.
Why anyone would vote for Hillary at this point is beyond me. I was a Hillary supporter early on but after seeing her many faces and hearing all the lies I can not be a part of it. Why do they want the office so badly? It is a shame a former president has made such a fool of himself in the eyes of the people that once supported him.

Brian, Elkton, MD   May 26th, 2008 11:25 am ET

So true, Bill - glad you are around as a non-biased paragon of virtuous truth to explain what the "reality" actually is: that the Democrats are actually conspiring to avoid winning the next presidential election just to make Hillary (and you) look bad. Millions and millions of new, energetic voters for Obama who were enlisted solely to bring down the Clintons at our nation's expense.

I can't believe that I didn't see it before…

That whole message of hope, change, openness, inclusion, unity, peace, and progress isn't attractive at all, is it? How could we have been so blind…

Sam in SoCal   May 26th, 2008 11:25 am ET

Man, is Bill desperate. He wants to get back into the White House SO badly, it's pathetic, sad and sort of funny in a ranting, drooling, crazy street preacher sort of way - which is to say, not really funny at all. I thought that her campaign had gotten him under control, but if this is any indication, they sure haven't. Would you really want someone governing this country who can't even get her date rapist husband to shut up for a few months while she tried (and fairly successfully) to convince the voters that she and he were not the totally narcissistic, amoral, voracious-for-power-yet-totally-unwilling-or-able-to-do-anything-useful-with-it hippy/redencks that the two of them truly are? If she can't get Bubba to muzzle it, sit on his hands and keep it in his pants for the length of the campaign season, what good would she be running this country?

Hillaryis404   May 26th, 2008 11:24 am ET

nice of old bubba to stand up for the little woman like that. seriously, could he have sabotaged her campaign anymore? his legacy is now reduced to a stained blue dress.

ellen   May 26th, 2008 11:24 am ET

He is right about several things. The media has not given Clinton the
coverage they have given Obama. He is constantly in the news. They
downplayed her win in WVA to jump on the Edwards endorsement for
Obama. And how can the polls label her as negative when Obama
started the whole negative attacks with that NAFTA mailing. Obama
is very clever at getting what he wants, if you really listen to him
he has a way of twisting the words around to suit himself. When I
first became aware of Obama I liked the man. But then I started
to really listen to what he was saying and my respect turned to mistrust.
How can he be fooling so many people?

Ilene MI   May 26th, 2008 11:24 am ET

Just when you think Bill and Hillary can't stoop any lower……….God help us get this over with and send them home.

Rascal   May 26th, 2008 11:24 am ET

The polls have Obama beating McCain by a bigger margin than Clinton. I respect Bill as a president and for what he has done for this country but he needs to give it up. It's over….you can not change the rules after the game has been played. Obama is a the better candidate and if he campained in Florida and Michigan, he would have won those states or would have been a close race.

Scot C.   May 26th, 2008 11:24 am ET

Everyday it's something new from the Clinton campaign and it used to work in the beginning. How do they come up with this stuff on a daily basis? I find it amazing and disgusting all at the same time.

Bill, give it up. The democratic nomination is decided by the delegate count not the popular vote. You should know this, how long have these rules been in place? Since you won the nomination?

How about following the rules? How about showing some dignity for yourself and the democratic party? No matter what the Hillary supporters say, what about Obama supporters? Do they count in the democratic party that Bill is talking about or are they part of an alternate democratic party?

Enough already! She's lost, it's over, now let's get to it. It's time to take McCain down.

Funny   May 26th, 2008 11:24 am ET

I just don't understand Mr. Clinton at this point. Hillary has not been treated unfairly in this campaign. It is most unfortunate that the candidate with the "most experience" has made the most mistakes during the process and didn't have an effective plan after Feb. 5th. Stop with all the rhetoric and start talking like a party elder statesman and promote unity.

Douglas A. McCarthy   May 26th, 2008 11:24 am ET

Poor Clinton-worried about losing the ability to abuse White House perks again?

Paul   May 26th, 2008 11:24 am ET

Bill just needs to shut up. He has nothing worth saying.

Reality Check   May 26th, 2008 11:24 am ET

Hillary is leading the popular vote. There is no reason why this primary process should end before the convention. To those who whine about the caucuses - they don't tabulate any popular vote count so if you're angry about that take it up with your own caucus state. Caucuses are also the most undemocratic way of selecting a candidiate in our American political system (it disadvantages the elderly, workers, caretakers (ie: mothers with young kids) and it generally does not represent the will of the general public - look at Texas primary/caucus if you have any doubt about that)).

Hillary is leading in the Popular Vote
Hillary has won 7 of the last 11 primaries
Hillary has won the key swing states
Hillary won Indiana which Obama called the tie-break state
Hillary has won half a million more votes than Obama since March 1
Hillary is beating McCain in the national polls (Obama is not)
Hillary has the electoral college votes to win in November

All the way to Denver. Hillary '08

Patricia in Las Vegas   May 26th, 2008 11:24 am ET

Bill you are wrong wrong wrong….we DO NOT want Hillary in the White House, she has run a disasterous campaign, has out of control spending, cannot decide who she really is. And to suggest that this is a cover up just shows that you too, are losing all sense of reality. Give it up.

jackie oliver   May 26th, 2008 11:23 am ET

Billiary Clinton have weakened the democratic party. They are divisive, negative people, with a very grey area in truth and integrity. It is time for the super delegates to put a stop to this or the Republicans will win this election. Sometimes I think Hilliary has stayed in this election just to weaken Obama's position and then turn around and say, 'You should have voted for me.' That would be a typical move, just like,' Let's move the goal posts and count all of Michigan and Florida, even if Obama wasn't on the ballot and we agreed to not campaign there and count them in. I am down now so I want them counted." duh-3rd grade bargaining.

I am deeply upset with the super delegates who are sitting on the fence. Officially I am an independent who only got involved in this because I feel so strongly about Obama and change. What an eye opener politicians are!!!!! Commmit now and stop this devastation.

Sara   May 26th, 2008 11:23 am ET

Disgusting!!!
And where is the Clinton contribution to Memorial Day - something to celebrate patriotic Americans other than Bill and Hillary???

Mary   May 26th, 2008 11:23 am ET

The Democratic Party started with nine major candidates, most of whom were eminently qualified. Since then the voters get to choose. It is not anyone's turn, or anyone's right to be president, it is our right to vote. Unfortunately Florida and Michigan voters will be somewhat disenfranchised, some because they stayed home thinking that their votes wouldn't count, some who voted for only the candidate still on the ballot, some because the votes of their states will be apportioned in some kind of back room compromise. What is very clear to me is that neither of the candidates get to choose what that compromise is. That's like letting the student decide what grade he's going to get on an exam.

Tammy from Grand Rapids   May 26th, 2008 11:23 am ET

I'm sure the coverup was started by Keith Olbermann, the closet Obamarite. He's not an unbiased news commentator, he's just a snivelling surrogate for Obama. No reason for anyone to listen to him.
I'd just as soon listen to Hal Axelrod—-same thing.

DD   May 26th, 2008 11:23 am ET

CP in Kansas City,

I agree with you. I am backing Hillary, but if Obama wins …I am definitly voting for him. I don't really think Obama can win, because, I have a bad feeling that it's the Republicans that are pushing him to be the nominee. Yet, if he does win the nomination …I am determined that I am going to make them regret thier own choice.

Everyone whom hates bush needs to back the winner of the Democrated nomination no matter what, and whether it's hillary or Obama ….that should be clear.

Ps. I don't believe Hillary should not drop out until the end. Why, because if she goes until the Convention this entire mess will be resolved …either she wins or she loses, without one side feeling like she was forced to do anything. If she drops out before, the party really will be splintered. It will feel like she was forced, and in such a case …bad feelings will feister

Bill Clinton is right.. Hillary needs to be our next president.. She has been working so hard, and she has never given up.. The media is giving Obama a free ride, and the media is always picking on Hillary.. I think that is just unfair.. I think Obama supporters are just to blind to see that this is really happening.. We need a president with tough skin!

Hillary in '08!!

al snyder   May 26th, 2008 11:23 am ET

I am beginning to see why the republicans pursecuted him during his years in the Whitehouse. Everything is a conspiracy against him, yet rules mean nothing to him and he will say and do anything to dust-up everything. Facts, truths, they are the real victims. Everyone is at fault, but him. Clinton supporters have some warped sense of reasoning to be able to look past all the lying, hypocracy and blaming all, while taking no responsibility for anything.

KC   May 26th, 2008 11:23 am ET

Bill Clinton needs to shut up and go home. He is nothing but a trouble maker. The whole problem with Hillary's campaign is Bill. He is so desparate to ge in to the white house again only for his own selfish reasons. The same as Hillary, they doesn't care about their supporters because it is always I want - I am entitle to the presidency because I am a Clinton.
He wants every one to think that Hillary is the only one who can beat McCain. They both are destroying Obama with all their dirty tricks and lies. Well after June 3rd, and this meeting on May 31st, see will see what happens.

watat   May 26th, 2008 11:23 am ET

Sir, Presidency not a birth right for the Clintons, learn to accept defeat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

New Yorker   May 26th, 2008 11:23 am ET

First of all, Hillary has every right to continue running. That's completely ok and completely acceptable. However, to blame others for things that you have brought on yourself is only going to make folks respect you less.

Even though Hillary's campaign is not slamming people right now, let's not forget that for most of the primary season, she ran an ugly campaign, slamming media, voters, and candidates alike. We were all offended from her constant demands, rule-changing, unlikeable personality, and constant accusations. This all made the season seem to go on much longer than what it actually is.

So, people want to see you go, Hillary. Not because you're a woman, but because your campaign was obnoxious and you came off as ENTITLED. I am a woman voter by the way.

Since CNN keeps ignoring my comments I will post this again:

Obama has won his right to be the nominee and Clinton hasn't, he has more votes, more pledged delegates, he even achieved the majority of pledged delegates, so he deserves to be the nominee, this is a democracy, if you believe in that Bill, then shut up. And if the democrats don't win is because of your kitchen sink strategy, your support and encouragement for racism, and being such a sore losers as you are.

Hemoglobin   May 26th, 2008 11:23 am ET

Our God has spoken!!! Everyone rise and don't THINK at all what he is telling you about his wife is not true and please ignore that little voice of reason in your head that tells you these people are nuts. "Yes master, Hillary will win in November and even though most people want her rival as they have already spoken, you will ensure she runs for president. You are the most righteous one, we thank the world for you Clintons".

The Truth   May 26th, 2008 11:23 am ET

You are always a player Bill but You will never get the third term as An American President through Your Wife. Stop Deceiving yourself, White house is not made for your household. Go home and start preparing Chelsea, your son -inlaw or one of your son from other women you denied for future American President. Go home Bill Clinton!!!

Ro   May 26th, 2008 11:22 am ET

sue   May 26th, 2008 11:22 am ET

Why is this man trying to make it seem as if his wife has been victimised by this. She is not winning the nomination, she is loosing in all areas, and she changes the rules for everything once it suites her. It simply tells me these people are are only in it for themselves and no-one else. After what Hillary said on Friday, I thought Bill would have the good sense to keep his mouth shut and not try to incite people to feel bitter .

With Bill and Hillary and John McCain all running against him, it will be very difficult for Obama to win. Bill's remarks are out of bounds and just go further to divide the party. The Clinton's are always blaming some type of conspiracy against them instead of standing up and taking the blame for their own mistakes and problems. They are no better than Rove and Bush. You get the feeling that they are somehow the chosen ones and if they are not chosen then its some conspiracy. They twist the facts to suit their own ambitions. The only conspiracy is the ones being perpetrated by the Clinton;s themselves. They only care about their own persoel glory and nothing about the party or the country.

Michigan Voter !!!   May 26th, 2008 11:22 am ET

Daniel   May 26th, 2008 11:22 am ET

Bill you are right.
I'm still waiting for the Florida and Michigan votes.
Never Obama and his VP rev wright 2008 ticket.
I will vote for Mccain .

Morgan   May 26th, 2008 11:22 am ET

If all Dems get behind Obama he will not lose in November. If Clinton doesn't mobilize her supporters to back Obama it is as much HER fault for a November loss as it is his. Just as it will be Obama's fault if he doesn't get his supporters to back Clinton if a miracle happens and she is the nominee. Seriously the primary and general election is not based on the popular vote! It's based on delegates and the electoral college. If it was the popular vote Al Gore would be president. Stop trying to change the rules midway through. Besides, it's early for those novemeber polls. Gore and Kerry should have won based on early polls as well, but that didn't happen. Polls are not guarantees.

Do you really think people will be happy with Clinton getting the nomination without the majority of pledge delagates? Do you think ignoring the caucuses and disenfranchising their votes is the way to claim the popular vote? What you are just hearing that Clinton only has the popular vote lead by disenfranchising the caucus voters? What everybody wants Florida and Michigan to count fairly? What most Dems want the party to unite? What?

anon   May 26th, 2008 11:22 am ET

Bill Clinton: "Don't put on the uniform if you don't want to get hit."

Bill Clinton: "Clipping is expected in the game."

NOW HE WANTS TO CRY!!!

Lord help me make this last couple of weeks. I don't know how much more of these two I can take!!!!!

Edana Popp   May 26th, 2008 11:22 am ET

Bill has been described as the most savvy politician of our time, but now people want to discount his opinions. Can't have it both ways. He's right.

Tanya Kujath   May 26th, 2008 11:22 am ET
