Castro slammed Obama’s support for the embargo.
Castro slammed Obama’s support for the embargo.

HAVANA (AP) — Former President Fidel Castro says Sen. Barack Obama's plan to maintain Washington's trade embargo against Cuba will cause hunger and suffering on the island.

In a column published Monday by government-run newspapers, Castro said Obama was "the most-advanced candidate in the presidential race," but noted that he has not dared to call for altering U.S. policy toward Cuba.

"Obama's speech can be translated as a formula for hunger for the country," Castro wrote, referring to Obama's remarks last week to the influential Cuban American National Foundation in Miami.

Obama said he would maintain the nearly fifty-year-old trade sanctions against Cuba as leverage to push for democratic change on the island. But he also vowed to ease restrictions on Cuban Americans traveling to Cuba and sending money to relatives.

He repeated his willingness to meet with Raul Castro, who in February succeeded his elder brother Fidel to become the nation's first new leader in 49 years.

Castro said Obama's proposals for letting well-off Cuban Americans help poorer relatives on the island amounted to "propaganda for consumerism and a way of life that is unsustainable."

He complained that Obama's description of Cuba as "undemocratic" and "lacking in respect for liberty and human rights" was the same argument previous U.S. administrations "have used to justify their crimes against our homeland."

Castro, 81, has not been seen in public since undergoing emergency surgery in July 2006, but he often publishes columns in state newspapers.

Obama's calls for direct talks with Cuban leaders differ sharply from a more hardline policy favored by current President Bush and Republican presidential candidate John McCain, whom Castro also has
criticized.

Castro's column came three days after a prominent dissident group wrote an open letter to Obama suggesting that his idea of talking directly with Cuban leaders could help win freedom for
prisoners.

"We have great hope that you can contribute to the immediate, unconditional liberation" of prisoners, wrote the Ladies in White, a group formed by relatives of people jailed in a government crackdown on political opposition in 2003.

So, I guess Castro will "talk" to Obama about the USA and Cubans getting together. Maybe Obama can make a "plagerized speech" to the regime and they will bow down like the Obama worshipers and chant "change we believe in"!

change in my pocket   May 26th, 2008 4:11 pm ET

What if Obama ask you to sit down for a cup of tea?…………Would that be OK?

Yes "Alice" We all know you are one of those Republican gullable rednecks. You belive all the trash the Republican is feeding you.
I guess your gut if full of all that garbage you are exposing yourself to.

Lothar   May 26th, 2008 4:08 pm ET

My ideal scenario:

1) Obama becomes the POTUS, partly because the Cuban American lobby is positive or at least neutral to him, and he picks up Florida in the general.

2) He keeps the official embargo against Cuba intact, but he lets enforcement of the travel ban for Americans to visit Cuba slide.

That way, the Cuban Americans get to keep their embargo, no Americans have to pay thousands of dollars in ridiculous fines for taking a vacation, and Obama get re-elected in 2012. Everyone wins!

Obama trying to ride the diplomatic fence. He better not sneeze. So much for the Obama imperialist posture.

Good try Hugo Chavez, the last time i checked, i found out that the dead can not speak, i didn't see him, did you?, no one has seen fidel, but who cares? it's about time that the enriched cubans in miami do something for that impoverished nation. love for your neighbor starts with your own people, so come on cubans in miami, open up your hearts! they need the cell phones and computers, and all the high gadget stuff we have.

I am voting for Obama, but I am greatly disappointed that he would choose to continue this cruel and needless embargo.

Hi ES NYC ;) Also:
a) The relatives visiting Cuba will spread the word about fruits of democracy to Cubans
b) Cuba does not have missiles against us. So, we have a very good chance of engaging and winning
b) We can get high quality produce for cheap; coconuts and mangoes to start with. :)

PCS / North Carolina   May 26th, 2008 4:04 pm ET

Despite their dictatorship, at least all the Cubans have health care. The best health care system in the developing world (Check out W.H.O). In U.S.A, there are 49 million without medical insurance and 75 million underinsured, all the while, insurance companies are raking in record profits. So, not every thing in Cuba is bad as we perceive. We should not be in the habit of exporting democracy to the failing / authoritarian regimens. As we know most of them did not work out in any one's favor (Iraq-2003, Vietnam -1968, Iran-1953 and many more. We are so wound up in this military industrial-oil complex and exporting democracy, that we forget about our own well being and economy.

Jacklyn   May 26th, 2008 4:03 pm ET

Hate to ask this question but why won't he go out peacefully? He really hate to give up his dictatorship and control over the people of Cuba. Hey people get tough and help elect a president (Obama) that is going to bring change to you and your families in Cuba.

jason   May 26th, 2008 4:02 pm ET

so, if fidel says one thing, we should do the other, right? from what i recall (from what little the press is allowed to tell me): he's the "bad guy."

Interesting since their policies are so closely aligned both being anti-capitalist America haters. I would dig deeper into this one. There has to be a real story in there somewhere.

Michael   May 26th, 2008 4:01 pm ET

Castro is all about propaganda and to think that some people on this blog are actually falling for it, why would anyone listen to what this man has to say, more over why would some believe it, amazing. Some of you take on Obama and his intention to talk with people we don’t like, anyone here every heard the old phrase that tells us know your enemy better than you know yourself. Anyone here every heard of Sun Tzu Art of War, has anyone on this blog ever considered what would have happened if Nixon had not went to China or if Kennedy hadn’t communicated in some level with the Soviet Union during the Cuban Missile Crisis? It is amazing how quickly people forget just what talking to our enemies has saved us from.
Some of you on this blog need to review your history because it is replete with the United States talking to its enemies in order to avert war or end a war. Some of you on this blog call yourself democrats but are willing to vote for McCain simply because you got your feelings hurt because your candidate didn’t win. Put McCain in office if you want, he is going to take Bush’s plan for Iran, which is military action. Remember Russia stated they would not tolerate military action against Iran. This means they will intervene and we all know what that will entail, I would rather talk to Iran than risk World War III. We may be able to take Russia in a conventional war but we all know it will not remain conventional for long and when the birds fly all of you who voted for McCain and put him in office will have between six and thirty minutes to think about your logic for putting him in office.

tennessee   May 26th, 2008 4:01 pm ET

and she calls us naive when she thinks all obama supporters think he is a god. rose you are from texas you probably werent going to vote democrat in the first place. and when all of you say that you would write in hillary or vote mccain if she does not get the nomination, take some time and think of your childrens future. this isnt all about you're ego.

DAN   May 26th, 2008 4:01 pm ET

Obama is just trying to be different but he really doesn't have a clue what he's talking about. His advisers and speech writers better get to work and not leave Obama alone too long on his own, in that regards Obama 's alot like Bush. It will be trainning on the job if ever he would become president, that's one of the reason why he'll probably loose against McCain. Many voter are blinded by the media. Obama will like Bush bring the country backwards.

Noah   May 26th, 2008 4:00 pm ET

Obama is only pandering for cuban-american vote. It will be a shame if this country elects the most in-experianced person for the most important job in the world.

Mike   May 26th, 2008 4:00 pm ET

"when and if obama sits down with the leader /leaders of cuba,he will tell them what we expect to have ,in exchange for what we can offer.allow free and fair elections in cuba ,free political prisoners, and we can begin to normalize relations."

Oh that will help. Castro didn't know that we wanted him to hold elections during his 50 year dictatorship. As soon as Obama is good enough to tell him, I am sure that he and Raul will hold elections imediately.

Are you kidding me?

Kathy   May 26th, 2008 3:59 pm ET

My question to the “under 30 generation” who for the first time in their lives “found their voice”… in Obama…..where have you been? Why not until now have you not exercised your right to vote? You place your faith in a man who has not been tested, pocesses little record of accomplishment and little to no experience in international or economic matters. For shame!

Life to you folks seems rather simple. I suppose in your minds, Obama offers a sense of entitlement — your time has come. The simple fact is that if you look past his rhetoric there is little substance. You buy into his chant of “change..yes we can” with little thought as to the complexities involved in bringing about change. Some of you worship him like he is a “messiah”, here to save us from ourselves. He may in fact be anointed the nominee, and you like him, will think nothing can stop you. The simple and relevant truth is……. One can fool some of the people some of the time…but not all the people…. all the time.

McCain may represent a party for which I may not find a lot of common ground however, I respect his honor, integrity and sacrifice to our country, the scars of which he still bears as a testament to his courage…. And I will place my hope for change in him. He has earned my respect and most likely my vote and the votes of millions of others who feel the same way.

For the sake of our country and that of our future….thank god there are more of us than you, and we will not allow this fantasy to continue past Nov. DNC party chairs and uncommitted superdelgates…..you either stop this false prophet now….or we will do so with our votes come Nov.

Karen P   May 26th, 2008 3:59 pm ET

Someday Castro will finally meet his "Maker", then it will be up to Raul. Who knows how Raul really thinks.

Cuba could have so much tourism, increased economics…if only its leaders would recognize their own policies have not worked.

Regardless of what Castro says now, it's premature to say just what will happen with that country. The country to also watch regarding Cuba is how Russia will relate to any of our possible "new policies". And China. We have always had to watch Russia and China, they control the "strings".

Cuba is changing and so is America. At some convenient point following preparations and meeting as Obama stipulates, the embargo shall be lifted and Cuba and America shall become great friends!

Russians aways betray their allies, Americans do not do that. See how they betrayed Cuba! Even Fidel knows that. Indeed, that is why Cba is changing its policies.

Angry Cuban-American   May 26th, 2008 3:39 pm ET

Why does Obama want the Cuban people to continue to suffer? Lift the embargo—free trade is best for everyone.

James, Seattle   May 26th, 2008 3:38 pm ET

You seem to be missing the point. Cuba grows lots of cheap products that compete with our domestic ones. We need to never talk to them so we don't have to compete. This has little to do with the communist threat and much to do with protectionism. Now if we can figure out how to do this with oil…..

Jeremy   May 26th, 2008 3:38 pm ET

Hillary supporters get over it. Mrs. Clinton shot her own self in the foot. She seem the candidate to have the most experience, but she bombed. She hired Mark Penn and frittled away her campaign fund of millions. She lied, and now she is now trying to steal an election that was in her hands. She has lost all credibility, and she should not even be in the senate. She and Bill are low lives. Bill Clinton a bigot needs to get his big red nose out of Harlem becasue he is not wanted there anymore. And Hillary need to become president of West Virginia and Kentucky, her kind of people. Hillary you have disgraced yourself as well as the Democratic party.

Obama has SO much to learn.

Why does NELSON MANDELA consider Fidel a hero?

Because it was Cuban troops, under the BRILLIANT military direction of Fidel Castro that broke the back of the fascist apartheid regime that was overextended in a proxy war in Angola.

CUBAN blood was shed, so that Africa could be free.

Is that a WAR CRIME OBAMA?

Listen to what Nelson Mandela says about Cuba.

Then you might learn something, you weirdo!

So? When Fidel goes, his brother will be much more willing to work with the U.S. Raul has already been making headway with the citizens of Cuba, and I don't suppose he'd be any more willing to deal with McCain or his good buddy Clinton. Those two are reminiscent of everything Cuba has stood against for the past 60 years; I don't think you'll find any progress with Cuba under either of them.

Guess everyone has forgotten, well I have not I remember my friend calling me to watch and us both saying that he was not supposed to even be there!

Willow   May 26th, 2008 3:09 pm ET

McCain is a war monger. He cannot conceive of talking with other countries. IMO if we don't talk with other countries, we are in another cold war, just like in the 60s. Remember that? That's what McCain wants to do. He freely tells the press who our "enemies" are. When someone becomes an enemy, and no one is talking, we are ready for war. McCain would love to have war. That's all he understands.

At least Obama is willing to talk. Talk is cheap. But if we can talk about governments without calling them enemies or terrorists, at least then we can open lines of communication. Once there is no talk, there is no hope.

I think we should normalize our difficulties with Cuba. Because they are not democratic is no reason to be enemies. Saudi Arabia is not a democracy and we are happy with them. Oh, that's because they have oil! There are a lot of non democratic countries that we are friendly with. If we can talk and use diplomacy, maybe we can get them to meet us in the middle.

Christopher W. Mannoia   May 26th, 2008 3:07 pm ET

God! Now even Fidel Castro is attacking Obama? Whew! If Fidel is so worried about years of "poverty and suffering," perhaps he should remember it was his alliance with the communists (who were dedicated to our destruction), and not any embargoes that the U.S. government has levied against him.

When Cuba "puts up," then it will be time to accept them, help them, and help cure some of the ills that forty-plus years of communist, dictatorial rule brought them.

For the people here bashing Obama with claim that he "lacks" experience…..GIVE ME A BREAK. Judging from the ACTIONS of both Hillary and McBush, he has the clearly demonstrated that he is far more capable of taking this country foward with respect to foreign policy. Both Hillary and McBush will continue to DRAG this country DOWN….STOP with the drama and do your homework. Both of them have BEEN WRONG WRONG WRONG and they lack the courage to be honest and just SAY it.

Both of them want to be president so much that they will say and do anything….THAT can NEVER be a characteristic of someone running for the presidency.

Moreover, since Bush has all but DESTROYED the reputation of the US, there is no way either McCain or Hillary will BE able to make any gains in the Middle East. Hillary in the middle east…that's funny. McCain be trusted in the middle east …just as funny.

Hey, Barry. Did you see the article in NY Times on the great white Bordeaux? Do try them. People suffering in Cuba because of unrelenting cruelty of the Bush regime? WHO CARES?!? Other Democrats might, but not our boy Barry. He's got better friends than that, more interesting people with lots of degrees.

Barry knows what really counts - HE DOES. IT'S ALL ABOUT BARRY AND WHETHER HE WINS. He'll say ANYTHING to ANYONE, or when he's feeling particularly cowardly, have his "supporters" do it for him.

And good luck packing up and leaving Iraq- suddenly we'll hear about being responsible to "our boys," and not endangering them by (What did you say, Bar?) "leaving too quickly." Wake me when it's over.

So many of htese articles have nothing to do with Hillary but Obama supporters write comments belittling Hillary or ridiculing her or Bill Clinton. This is exactly the reason why more than half of the 17 million voters for Hillary will be voting for McCain in November or stay at home to show how stupid these idiots are. Happy November obama-tards

David, (Miami)   May 26th, 2008 2:55 pm ET

The US policy with respect to Cuba has been and will continue to be a complete DIASTER.

There will never be any PROGRESS for the people of Cuba until those members of the exile community here in Miami are taken out of the ENTIRE PROCESS.

The sad things about the entire situation is the US continues to lie about motives behind "our" policy. Why if the US was consistent and treated other "like" countries in the same manner, we would not do business with a hell of alot more countries than we currently do.

When it is all said and done, the people here in Miami will have to answer for their willingness to do HARM to their families in a lame attempt to get back at Fidel. He has not suffered, Raul will not suffer….When the US changes it will provide incentive for more change on the island.

In my opinion, it is Fidel Castro’s own statement which is the epitome of “propaganda for consumerism and a way of life that is unsustainable.” It also appears that Castro does not use the new Clinton math and has come to the obvious conclusion that Obama will be President. And so it begins. Obama ’08.

Evan   May 26th, 2008 2:53 pm ET

To the hillary supporters:
Please think before you stay home or vote for McBush on election day. We saw in the 2000 election what not enough voters meant. It meant Bush. We are in a crossroad in the world, with gas prices going over $4, inflation going up, college going up, but our paychecks are going down. We are seeing what the Bush terms did to our economy. Trickle down economics doesn't work. With all of Hillary supporters backing Obama, we can stop giving tax cuts to the wealthiest 1% while we lose our jobs and still trying to fill our gas tanks. Voting for McSame is voting for everything that Obama, and even Clinton, stand for, and what you stand for as Democrats. Staying home or voting for McBush all you Hillary supporters will only help the Gray Old Party get back into the white house(GOP). We must unite against McSame, PLEASE

Ray   May 26th, 2008 2:53 pm ET

Mary…It sounds like you are one of those "Uneducated" supporters
Obama said he wants all the votes to count…did you hear…all of them
You just hear what Hillary said and can not think for yourself
This is one reason why Hillary's supporters are uneducated
People who think for themselves will not fall for the stuff she is saying
And know she is not the one to run this country
She can not even run her campaign…
It is just sad that you people are not smart enough to see this
So you vote for the same jerks in office time and time again
What has anyone in Washington done for you or me or this country
NOT A THING

Welcome aboard! Same here. I supported Clinton but the more I heard Obama and the more I researched his background, the more I realize he is the right leader for this country, at this critical moment in history.

Be sure to familiarize yourself with the Obama's plan, It takes awile to read, as his policy positions are extensive.

He's a realist who knows that things won't change overnight, but he also knows nothing will change if someone does provide direction and leadership to make those first steps.

Michael, an independent Canadian   May 26th, 2008 2:52 pm ET

To Republicans: Do you actually think that Bush's foreign policies have improved America's image abroad?

And there is a great deal of truth and wisdom in "talking to your enemies directly (keeping them close)", does not imply that you give in to your enemies. It is truly amazing that most Republicans take anything but an ultra-right hardline position as weakness!!!!!!!!

To Hillary Supporters: Obama's foreign policies do not weaken America, but rather give America a chance to rekindle leadership this world desperately needs.

It makes so much sense to most Canadians (whose troops are in Afghanistan along with other UN and US troops) to see that Obama understands that Bush completely missed the terrorist target by going into Iraq instead of Afghanistan. Its nice to see that Obama refocus on the real source of terrorism.

JB   May 26th, 2008 2:52 pm ET

The Clintons need to go away. Maybe to Cuba!

Mike in NYC   May 26th, 2008 2:52 pm ET

Slowly but surely, Obama's foreign policy will migrate back to within "acceptable" limits — acceptable to the permanent government, that is.

Change, I think not.

Cuba's problems are not mine. The only change I would welcome vis-a-vis Cuba is the unchaining of our policy toward that nation from the interests of aggrieved exiles who seem to think they own South Florida.

The end of communist Fidel Castro's Cuba is near.
The best thing that could happen is a democratization of the Cuban society post Fidel.
Talking with Raul Castro and negotiate the end of the 50 years stance between the US and Cuba has multiple benefits:
1 - Because Raul is not Fidel any positive outcome from negotiation would have the support of most pro and anti Castro policies here and abroad.
2 - A new democracy so close to the US is a unique chance to further the American way of life.
3 - Further US influence in Central and South America
4 - Avoid a military conflict with a 'rogue' nation who also happened to be our neighbor.

Any Mc Cain or Hillary policies supporter can give me one benefit of their policies on Cuba (it's a trick question ;)

Martin   May 26th, 2008 2:42 pm ET

I sure hope CNN is real proud of them selves for selling out America, has CNN ever heard of free speech? If you were fair and balance like FOX, then you would post this.

."I feel sad having to expose Barack Obama," says Martin, "but the man is a complete fraud. The truth is going to surprise, and disappoint, and outrage many people who were drawn to him. He has lied to the American people, and he has sought to misrepresent his own heritage.

"Obama's life story is vastly different from the one he portrays. My point: if he will lie about his mother and father, what else is he lying about? Can we expect 'bimbo eruptions?'

"Fiction: Obama stated in his Convention speech: 'My father … grew up herding goats.' The 'goat herder' claim has been repeated endlessly. It is a lie. Fact: Obama's grandfather, Hussein Onyango Obama was a prominent and wealthy farmer. His son, Obama's father, was a child of privilege, not privation. He was an outstanding student, not a herdsman.

"Fiction: Obama was given an 'African' name. Fact: Obama is a Muslim who has concealed his religion. I am a strong supporter of the Muslim community, and I believe Muslims have been scapegoated. Obama has a great opportunity to be forthright. Instead, he has treated his Muslim heritage as a dark secret. His grandfather was named 'Hussein.' That is an Arabic-Muslim, not African, name. Hussein was a devout Muslim and named his son, Barack Senior, 'Baraka.' Baraka is an Arabic word meaning 'blessed.' Baraka comes out of the Koran and Arabic, not Africa.

"Barack Senior was also a devoted Muslim, and also chose a Muslim name for his son, our own Barack Obama, Junior. Again, his name was an Arabic and Koranic.

Obama has spent a lifetime running from his family heritage and religious heritage. Would his father have given his son a Koranic name if the father was not a devout Muslim? Obama's stepfather was also a Muslim. Obama will be the first Muslim-heritage senator; he should be proud of that fact. There is nothing to be ashamed of in any of the three great Abrahamic religions.

"Fiction: Obama Senior was a harmless student 'immigrant' who came to the United States only to study. Fact: Obama was part of one of the most corrupt and violent organizations in Africa: the Kenyatta regime. Obama's father ran back to Kenya soon after the British left. It is likely Obama's father had Mau Mau sympathies or connections, or he would not have been welcomed into the murderous inner circle of rapists, murderers, and arsonists. I believe Obama's secret shame at his family history of rape, murder and arson is what actualizes him. Our research is not yet complete. We are seeking to examine British colonial records. Our investigation to date has drawn on information on three continents.

"And what about Obama's beloved Kenyan brothers and sisters? None of his family was invited to Boston to share his prominence. Are his relatives being kept in the closet? Where are they? More secrecy, more prevarication.

"It is time for Barack Obama to stop presenting a fantasy to the American people. We are forgiving and many would still support him. It may well be that his concealment is meant to endanger Israel. His Muslim religion would obviously raise serious questions in many Jewish circles where Obama now enjoys support," Martin states.

"Our investigation is continuing. In he meantime, Crown Books should stop selling Obama's novelization of his life. We have asked Crown to do that. Obama is living a lie."

Vig   May 26th, 2008 2:41 pm ET

Obama's inexperience, arrogance and superficiality are all liabilities that will inflame dictators such as Castro. Obama doesn't know what he is doing and the "group think" mentality of his supporters that keep reinforcing the notion that he is the great Black hope will lead this country right back into the arms of the terrorists. A vote for Obama is a vote for another 9/11.

It is hard keeping all the Clinton conspiracies seperate………

David, Santa Rosa, CA   May 26th, 2008 2:38 pm ET

These are the risks that American soldiers have faced everyday for over five years now, and under President McCain, they will face them for at least four more years.

That's an incredible sacrifice to be made because some Clinton supporters decided to oppose Obama on issues wholly irrelevant to actual policy. This being the case, I just have to ask:

If you refuse to vote for Obama, why are you asking others to sacrifice for your decision?

If you're going to help McCain get elected, you need to take responsibility for your actions.

This election is bigger than you. It's bigger than Barack Obama. It's bigger than Hillary Clinton. Lives will be saved or lost depending on who is elected in November, and if you're going to willfully help prolong the war, it's time to do the honorable thing and enlist.

Locate a U.S. Army recruiter in your area:

Don't worry, you'll still be able to get election results from Baghdad, and you'll still be able to "sit this one out" under the comfort of a mortar attack.

And yes, I'm sure hearing about an Obama defeat will seem all the more sweet when you're laying in the choking aftermath of an IED explosion with a piece of half-melted plastic burning a hole into your intestines.

I'm sure you'll be comforted by the knowledge that history had no place for President Obama when you're staring at the empty space where your leg used to be.

And certainly, I'm sure the crippling terror of post-traumatic stress disorder will be nowhere as severe as the disingenuous "concern" you'll suffer over debunked Rezko conspiracy theories and the excited ramblings of a liberation theologian.

Of course, those already serving will not get the same perverse comfort from their sacrifice, so there's no excuse for not taking on this burden yourself.

If you truly believe that Obama should not be president, if you truly believe there is no greater pain than seeing a primary opponent win the general election, then this sacrifice can only be considered a modest price for your convictions.

VOTE for McCain instead. At least we will all be able to sleep at night without worrying what Obama's next move will be to jeopardize our freedom.

VOTE MCCAIN '08

At least Castro got one thing right - Obama is the most advanced presidential candidate.

As far as Bill Clinton goes, the man has lost his marbles! What will this man say next? I'd love to see the poll he is referring to that shows that Hillary would have 300 electoral votes. Maybe they polled all of those idiots who still want Hillary to come up with a gas tax holiday!! HA HA HA!!

Give it up, Mr & Mrs Clinton. Not everybody thinks you're the best thing to come around since sliced bread.

Talking with the Cubans will help undo whatever propaganda their govt must be feeding them about the US. I believe that is the point of focus of the dissident group, Ladies in White."

To the CNN moderators,,,,,,,, I was just offering an opinion, as to what a bad decision it would be to makes HRC the VP on Obama's ticket for November……… I do think this is a point that has merit,,,, seeing the she has been willing to do and say ANYTHING, to achieve her goal.

Hillary supporters, do you have anything to add but insults and other completely insubstantial comments which say nothing about actual issues? If you're not going to say anything intelligent it's not much worth listening to.

Fidel's comments should give some hope to Cuban-Americans…Obama's commitment to diplomacy and rejection of inflammatory rhetoric will go a long way to at least creating the possibility for improved relations with Cuba, perhaps allowing aid and a more moderate Castro regime. No other candidate is even allowing that possiblity.

Chuck   May 26th, 2008 2:24 pm ET

Since Fidel Castro hates Obama, that gives me an even bigger reason to vote Obama/Webb in November. Continue to destroy Cuba economically until it becomes a Democratic nation.

Miles Long   May 26th, 2008 2:24 pm ET

With an Obama presidency, the mindless Cuban embargo will be managed and quite likely resolved. Don't think for a minute the ol' revolutionary Castro doesn't admire Obama. He's just too smart to say something that would ruin the senator's chances.

The entire world sees Obama's greatness. It's too bad so many Americans have been so brainwashed (or are racist) that you can't see the obvious.

You know, our 40 plus year experiment with Cuba didn't work. It's time to end it now and open up relations with them. Mexico and Canada don't seem to have a problem with Cuba. Since when did we impose a life sentence on Cuba? The mighty Soviets fell after 71 years, and we got along pretty good with the Chinese and the Russians over the years. It's time to offer peace peace and friendship with Cuba and put and end to this nonsense. Cuba is not a threat.

Castro is old. Out with the old, in with the new!

Ok, so Raul is not exactly new.. but he's still newer than Fidel. Comeon Raul, show you're different from your brother, talk to Obama. Work something out. I know you can do it!

Ken   May 26th, 2008 2:17 pm ET

Even Castro can see through Barack Hussein Obama! It is no wonder that he and others close to him want Hillary Clinton to get out of the contest before there is a nominee selected. What is Obama afraid of—–losing the nominee????

Barack Hussein has no foreign policy experience and will be bad for America if he is elected as President. Even John McCain would be a better President than Barack Hussein Obama.

We NEED Hillary Clinton to win the nominee and then in November, she will be able to beat McCain for President.

WAKE UP AMERICA! We ALL need to get behind Hillary Clinton and push her over the finish line and become the Democrat nominee, then go on to beat McCain in November, and then we will have the right person for a President. One that can start on day one to make the cha
