The McCain campaign released a new Web ad honoring the Military service of Hispanics.

(CNN)—John McCain’s campaign continued its pitch to Hispanic voters on Memorial Day in a new web ad paying tribute to the service and sacrifice of Hispanics serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.

“When you go to Iraq or Afghanistan today, you're going to see a whole lot of people who are of Hispanic background,” McCain says. “You're even going to meet some of the few thousand that are still green card holders who are not even citizens of this country, who love this country so much that they're willing to risk their lives in its service in order to accelerate their path to citizenship and enjoy the bountiful, blessed nation.”

The minute long ad called “Memorial Day,” shows images of the various war memorials in Washington D.C., with phrases superimposed highlighting the military service of Hispanics throughout U.S. history.

Throughout the past month, the Arizona senator has been working to court Hispanic voters with the launch of a Spanish-language website and emphasis on the Republican Party as an inclusive party that “reaches out to every citizen.”

“[Hispanics] must come into our country legally, but they have enriched our culture and our nation as every generation of immigrants before them,” the presumptive Republican nominee concludes.

In 2005, McCain angered some in his party when he and Democratic Sen. Ted Kennedy unsuccessfully pushed for a comprehensive immigration reform bill that included a path to citizenship.

McCain now says he would focus first on securing the borders before offering other ways to deal with illegal immigration.

And today Tom Harkin attacked McCain for "serving in the military too much". Besides the fact that he was a POW and hence did not really have an opportunity to leave the military one has to wonder how this helps the Democrats particularily while we have men and women serving in dangerous areas and during Memorial Day weekend. I also have to wonder how this helps Obama among veterans and the same voters Obama already has problems with.

No amount of pandering will help you sir, America wants change and you have to change to be considered an agent of change…

All of you that say you'll vote for McCain if Hill don't win…well tell our soldiers that the reason they're still in this war was because your guy/gal don't win is a sad state…Let me put it like this…issues don't matter anymore just self at this point. Oh, but I think I got…if you're a real Dom or( In) you don't put self before party like the Rep. But I know it's all the Rep on this page pretenting to be Dom. Another Bush term, won't happen not this time not this year. Bill is totally wrong, rules are rule and we can't change the rules Rep when our guy is not winning. I know you Rep are good at playing these games but it's a new day so get use to it.

You voted to send American to die for a lie. You Bush and the rest have made money off of the American blood that has been spilled in the streets of Iraq. Shame on you. Warmonger. In a few months you won't matter anymore because Obama is coming to undo all that you and your daddy George Bush has done over the years.

I am tired of Bush. I am tired that Bush number 2 (McCain) is running for office and Bush number 3 (Hillary). Both of these people are a disgrace! There is absolutely no difference between McCain & hillary & Bush. If you want failure please vote for either of these 2 selfish candidates.

Kelly WI you are an idiot. Barack Obama was born in Honolulu Hawaii. His parents divorced when he was 2. That would imply that they were "married" It is truly frightening that people this stupid vote.
You deserve McCain.

I say this on a blog yesterday and liked it very much. It's about beliefs and integreity and your vote.

These are the risks that American soldiers have faced everyday for over five years now, and under President McCain, they will face them for at least four more years.

That's an incredible sacrifice to be made because some Clinton supporters decided to oppose Obama on issues wholly irrelevant to actual policy. This being the case, I just have to ask:

If you refuse to vote for Obama, why are you asking others to sacrifice for your decision?

If you're going to help McCain get elected, you need to take responsibility for your actions.

This election is bigger than you. It's bigger than Barack Obama. It's bigger than Hillary Clinton. Lives will be saved or lost depending on who is elected in November, and if you're going to willfully help prolong the war, it's time to do the honorable thing and enlist.

Locate a U.S. Army recruiter in your area:

Don't worry, you'll still be able to get election results from Baghdad, and you'll still be able to "sit this one out" under the comfort of a mortar attack.

And yes, I'm sure hearing about an Obama defeat will seem all the more sweet when you're laying in the choking aftermath of an IED explosion with a piece of half-melted plastic burning a hole into your intestines.

I'm sure you'll be comforted by the knowledge that history had no place for President Obama when you're staring at the empty space where your leg used to be.

And certainly, I'm sure the crippling terror of post-traumatic stress disorder will be nowhere as severe as the disingenuous "concern" you'll suffer over debunked Rezko conspiracy theories and the excited ramblings of a liberation theologian.

Of course, those already serving will not get the same perverse comfort from their sacrifice, so there's no excuse for not taking on this burden yourself.

If you truly believe that Obama should not be president, if you truly believe there is no greater pain than seeing a primary opponent win the general election, then this sacrifice can only be considered a modest price for your convictions.

The doctors gave McCain a clean bill of health and I think that is wonderful, for anyone to stay healthy, but the doctors failed to report his mental state because of his questionable judgment and constant flip flopping.

John McCain is an admirable man. He was a terrific soldier. However, the prospect of his being president makes me shudder. I am not impressed with his cognitive clarity. (Hey, I'm old too!) In this regard, the contrast between McCain, on the one hand, and either Obama or Clinton on the other hand–is, well, huge. As an Arizona Democrat–not quite an oxymoron–I did not vote for McCain's re-election to the Senate, last time around. I certainy will not vote for him for president. No matter, Arizona will give him its Electoral College votes anyway, despite the hundreds of thousands of us in this state who shudder.

Please READ and think about the ISSUE noted below; I am neutral in this process– only a 50+ year ole American

If the BEST that America does is to put in office ONLY those who have been vetted (with extensive experience), even though these folks continue to make the same errors in judgement (e.g., about the war, gas tax issues and so on), is American better off than "traditional" countries that ONLY look up to the Elderly?

I thought American is the land of "opportunity," and that with opportunity comes experience! We need a lot of growing up in this nation!

LT for Obama   May 26th, 2008 1:30 pm ET

Jerry Roselle, Illinois:

Sen. McCain feels that he served his duty to American by wearing the uniform and I suspect that since he did, he expects all Americans to do the same. The problem is that it is not a responsibility to serve your country by joining the military, that is a personal choice. However, I do agree that serving your country is some way is all of our responsibilities. I serve our country by supporting and raising money for charities that help people. Barack served his country by coming out of college and going directly into community service.

Sen McCain is out of touch with what serving your country really means. We need people here on our soil helping families and businesses as well as people defending our country and in some cases, both are equally dangerous depending on the neighborhood you decide to work in.

Anne   May 26th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

you cannot run as an independant until the next election in 2012. If you are going to say something at least have the facts on hand before you put fingers to keyboard otherwise you just look really dumb.

Clanger   May 26th, 2008 1:28 pm ET

Jerry Roselle, a veteran, wrote that McCain should take back his comment about Obama, " who did not feel it was his responsibility to serve our country in uniform" McCain certainly takes a back seat to no one in terms of service to country.

I am also a veteran, a draftee back in the Viet Nam days, though I was never shot at, never pulled a trigger after basic training, and was certainly no battlefield hero. I served my time working in the psychiatric clinic in a military hospital stateside.

It is hypocritical of McCain, who supported the draft dodgers W. Bush, Cheney, and Gingrich, to now call out Obama for not serving at a time when there was no draft. It is also hypocritical of those who support a war to be unwilling to join the military and fight it. It is much easier to order strangers into war than to draft your children, your neighbors, and yourself to fight. It is also hypocritical to expect our troops to serve a second, third, or fourth tour in Iraq whey you do not intend to serve even one.

Nice try. But not all Hispanics come from south of the border. That's your problem. Mexicans, Nicaraguans, Puerto Ricans, Chileans, Cubans, etc. are not a monolithic group.

I tell you what you can do. Get ready to get your behind smoked by Barack. Don't try to bring up that stupid argument of public financing. His response will be, "Yeah that. I didn't sign anything. Quit whining." Tell your buddies that Rev. Wright, bitter, and middle name scenarios have been played out.

And keep your friend Bush close beside you. It will make it that much easier.

Senator McCain can run any kind of ads that he wants to but as long as he is letting President Bush do fundraisers for him – he is still joined to Pres. Bush at the hip. The flip flopping is not working – don't tell the people what they want to hear – tell the truth.

As far as former President Clinton saying that Senator Clinton is being disrespeccted, in order to get respect you have to give it – bottom line. He's a fine one to talk as well – no one can disrespect her more than he did.

McCain is weak on every issue facing Americans.

Elect McCain = worse health care coverage – worse economy – continued war and maybe even another war with Iran – talk but no action on the environment (because he ties US environment action to equal action in China & India which won't happen).

I believe he is sincere. But the problem is his policies are the same as what got us in the mess in the first place.
