Why is the democratic party so afraid of allowing every democrat in this country have a say? What would happen if we ended general elections early to prevent the country from being too split? I think it's absurd for Clinton to bow out, and I personally don't think that Obama can win the general election. The Democrats are messing up yet again. I always vote Democrat, but I may not this year if I don't think Clinton was given a fair shot to win the nomination. America is not the place where valid candidates should be pressured to step away when so many people are supporting them.

Nancy, You are Stepping out of Line. Really Pathetic. As a Life Long Democrat, the Moment You Step in I am Stepping out. My next political position is to become Independent and Vote McCain. The Democratic Party is full of Hypocrits. Make My Day Nancy!

Wouldn't it be a hoot if Hillary all of a sudden decided to go independent!

3 strong candidates vying for the presidency.

The mind reels at the possibilities.

It'd give a new meaning to Pelosi's "step in"!

First of all, if HRC would like to have the delegates seated in FL/MI, let's play fair.
In MI, HRC was the only candidate on the ballot. If the DNC were to be fair, it would seat the delegates based on all the candidates that signed the agreement , in other words, allot a fair share of delegates to all candidates and allow them to distribute their delegates. This way this would be a fair and equitable distribution of the delegates for both states and would favor Sen. Clinton or Sen. Obama.

McCauliffe or whatever his name is (HRC campaign chair) made a rule in 04' (as DNC Chairman) about penalising a state for changing dates and he was dead set on doing it, now he is a lieing boldface on TV like his boss HRC. Who are these people? How come the people following them decide to follow liars. These people are bent on destrying the party. Their loyalty should be first to the party , before a candidiate. PLEASE the Supers should all end this nonsense. Pelosi,Gore,Reid,Kennedy,Edwards...etc. Edwards should advice his Florida delegates to stick with him/Obama and Florida situation will be nullified. The we will see what her royal liar will say next.

He says if we penalise Mich & Florida, McCain will use it agaist us. Guess what ! Republicans also penalised Florida and only half delegates were counted, so how will McCain have a hand in out process.

Way to go Pelosi! Now that's a strong and healthy tough person unlike Hillary. Pelosi recognizes reality and the harm which Hillary and Bill can do to the Democratic Party , while Hillary continues to think of self and maintains her magical thinking so she might some how win the nomination, even at any cost.

OBAMA SUPPORTERS: LISTEN UP!!!

EVERY SINGLE WORD THIS WOMAN SAYS IS EITHER TAKEN OUT OF CONTEXT OR TWISTED TO MEAN SOMETHING ELSE.

Hillary never once said that caucuses don't count or that they don't matter… You people are ridiculous. Get a grip..

The point is that PRIMARY Elections are more representative of the will of the majority of voters and more closely demonstrates how voters will turn out in the GE. Caucuses only cater to the small percentage of party activists usually 1% to 5% of the registered voters. Caucuses make it extremely difficult to participate due to the time constraints and voters do not enjoy the right to a private vote.. Young voters and seniors are often intimidated by the process of having to publicly announce their choice. A vote is a personal and private matter.

The nomination process ends at the Convention. This is how the nomination process works..It's always been this way. primaries and caucuses were only added in the last 50 years.

There is a purpose for having a convention. It's an opportunity to determine a nominee in the event that there is not a clear winner OR if that winner is not who the majority of ALL the delegates ultimately feels has the best chance of winning the GE.

The primaries/caucuses were set up to have the a average voter involved in the decision making process. Not to be the final word. otherwise what purpose would the Convention and the selection of delegates serve?
IF OBAMA IS WHO THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY WANTS THEN THEY WILL HAVE EVERY OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE IT HAPPEN AT THE CONVENTION…. We all have to accept that as the final word.

Pelosi is an utter disappointment to Democrats in general and women in particular. From her pronouncement that "impeachment is off the table" to her obsequious fawning over Obama at the expense of what's best for the party (i.e. Hillary's candidacy), she has come to symbolize all that is wrong with politics.

Well, well, well, Nancy. Coming from someone whose approval ratings are WORSE than Bush's, you're going to exert your power now and try to thwart the democratic process? Go right ahead and try because that will put the party further in disarray. President McCain is sounding better every day.

Too little....too late!! Pelosi's jealousy and spiteful vitriol show every time she opens her mouth. She can't control congress to accomplish anything, how does she expect to control Clinton, who has every right to fight on as long as she wishes or has money for...or would Pelosi strip her of her democratic right to do just that.

And upon what authority does she intend to do this? As Queen Bee of DC?

Sorry, Nancy, you are out of your league on this one. You may be speaker of the house, but you have no authority to take any such action in regard to the nomination process of a political party.

It's pretty sad to sit here and read the comments of people who KNOW that even though Florida and Michigan didn't follow the rules, you don't feel they should be penalized for it. I see why you support Hillary. You're no better than she is! If things don't go your way then you want to change the game. Then you say you won't support Obama if Hillary doesn't win. So, just because things don't turn out the way you want them to you'll vote to continue pouring money into a useless war, and seeing our young people die for Bush's foolishness. I don't get it. Some of you sound worse than my 3 year old when he can't have his way. GROW UP!!!! It's time to think of what's best for the party AS A WHOLE! This is no time to be selfish. I'm an Obama supporter, but if by some miracle Hillary does win, I'm going to support THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY - not just the individual.

The Michigan and Florida delegates should be split. It doesn't matter that it doesn't help Clinton. You cannot break the rules. she should not get any more votes thatn Obama. That would be unfair.

I like that fact that we can take an election to the limit. It just proves that "The Peoples" vote should speak for us NOT Pelosi!!!
Just like any race, we "The People" are encouraged to run and not stop in mid stream. Pelosi needs to step back and let "The People" of this country allow their votes to count. My vote is my voice and all should be heard!!

Otherwise she should go independent and be our President

We cannot have a continuity of the Bush era with McCain, neither can we risk our futures by entrusting our nation in the hands of an unexperienced candidate

Hillary we love you, but enough is enough. You didn't win! You gave a great fight, but time has come to unit the party. We need to win the White House. Please step to the side and allow that party to be unit.

Nancy is correct. After the final elecitons, this should end. Hillary is out for herself, not the party or the country. That has been loud and CLEAR with all the remarks, tactics used, now this.

Michigan and Florida broke the rules, voters were AWARE votes wouldn't count so many stayed home...what about THEM? Voters should be angry at their own politicians for ignoring party rules...after all, 48 other states know what a rule means. As far as I'm concerned,

Hillary isn't a better candidate, she's just has tunnel vision that she should be "crowned" president. We've had enough of the Clintons. Time to move on and into the 21st century.

Okay, first the Democrats punish two sovereign states of the Union for daring to decide when to hold their own elections within their own borders. Now the convention chairperson is going to "step in" to insure that a candidate is chosen before the convention meets to choose a candidate. Would someone please explain to me exactly what is so 'democratic" about the Democratic Party?

I commend Speaker Pelosi for setting precedence over an unruly attitude from Senator Clinton. Additionally, former president Clinton should express keen respect for rules and policies as the American people continues to foot his salary. I cannot believe the juvenile behavior from such high caliber individuals such as the Clintons. Speak of deranged characters! I further nominate Speaker Pelosi for Obama's vice-president!

After all the states have voted there is NO reason for the super-delegates to wait until the convention to decide whom they want to select. It should be over a couple weeks into June. We've listened to all the complaints about letting Hillary finish the process, and I think most people respect that. But what will be the argument past mid-June? That until the convention super-delegates might change there mind on who they've endorsed? Seems like a steep price to pay. Pelosi understands this.

Well, Hillary....start packing your stuff up girlfriend. Tell Bill and Chelsea to make space availiable in your New York Hampton estate because your going back to New York next weekend. This race is over.

Pelosi hasn't forgotten about your many constiuents that sent the letter to her telling to reverse her statement. Pelosi is going to let you have it one way or another and its not going to be the nomination. Pelosi is not affraid to speak her mind and she going to step it up on the DNC rules and bylaws.

To everyone who continues to bring up the Iraq death toll... War is not good but it is sometimes a neccesity. There will never be peace; extremists all over the world will make the certain. And yes, over 4000 men and women have died in this war. They died voluntarily serving their country because they believe in the United States. This is over, what, a 6 year period? Yet every day over 3000 babies are aborted in the US alone. Let's see, that is over 6.5 million involuntary deaths in 6 years. Now who is hypocritical??? It is not the babies fault you can't leave your legs closed!

FINALLY, NANCY!!!! THANK GOODNESS!

Party leaders need to step up and be reasonable. Seating the entire Florida and Michigan delegates would be SUCH an absurd result that I would literally have to consider leaving the Democratic party altogether. Thos primaries were NOT proper... the were NOT fair. Obama was not even on the ballot in Michigan!!! no campaigning occurred in either of those states. Those primaries were early...before many people even knew of Obama. Clinton agreed to the rules to not seat those delegations just like EVERYONE else. She cannot back out of that reasoned decision when it is convenient for HER.

Who does she think she's folling??? It's absurd that ANYONE has taken her campaigns arguments even this seriously. The Florida and Michigan votes must be respresented. But, that means ALL of them... including the ones who stayed home due to the DNC decision... and that would include Obama and Clinton supporters.

Clinton is SO full of it. She's talking about wanting all votes to count??? That requires a complete recount. She's such sneaky and manipulative. GET RID OF HER!~!!!

I think Nancy Pelosi is correct in steping in.
Not only is it viewed that Sen. Clinton is dividing the party, but consideration should also be made that this process is overwhealming, and discouraging, the new and young voters who should not be subjected to this fiasco.
The band aid didn't work now it's time to do the surgery so things can heal.

Most sensible people agree that Sen. Clinton has the right to go to the convention. The problem is what it does to the party and the Democrats' presidential chances in the general election. Yes, Teddy Kennedy went in 80. Don't forget that Carter wound up losing the general election. My feeling is that Sen. Clinton needs to see she doesn't have much chance. Iif her top priority is the country and its citizens she needs to start the healing process and work for Obama in 2008.

If she takes it to the convention, or if she doesn't truly work for the candidate, then we will remember. 2012 will truly become the year of ABC (Anybody But Clinton).

the Clintons have lost but as an independent CNN commentator said a couple of weeks ago, he heard the Clintons will do anything, anything to win. They lost fair and square and even giving them all of michigan and none to Barack and seating Florida as it stands does not put Hillary ahead in any categories. You would still have to not count the caucuses in order for her to be ahead in the popular vote, but what counts is the delegate vote. So if she expects to win she would have to bribe and bully the superdelegates to switch to her loosing ticket, and that is called CHEATING.

Hey Harry C - Pelosi stripping a candidate of their constitutional right is not "back bone" - it's says "I'm scared to death to work for a woman"; it's not her place to end an election when "she sees fit". Who's she! Just another example of how everyone has been "railroading" Hillary for 6 months now. There is a conspiricy going on and it's obvious - as crazy as it sounds look at the Map, look at the polls, look at the swing states, and out of 2025 deligates each possible - being behind 160 deligates is not enough for everyone to jump ship for. That should give superdeligates something to mull over and look at the popular vote, swing state votes, and who can beat mccain. Hillary will be our winner if they have "spines".

Then, whats the point in having elections in democratic setup ?

Let all people have a say and caste their votes.

Republicans will be laughing at what is happening.

Why do all the commenters who are against Pelosi's intervention have female names? It reminds me of the famous comment of Coco Chanel: "Women who think they are intelligent, compete with men. Women who ARE intelligent, don't".

With all due respect, I think Nancy Pelosi is confusing the Democratic party with the House of Representatives. No one person has the ability to "step in" and solve anything; it must be worked out with the DNC and the two campaigns. What an ego! The only power she has is to start bullying undeclared House freshmen - many of whom have pointedly not endorsed Obama. That's a recipe for resentment and rebellion, especially if it backfires in the Fall.

What can Nancy Pelosi do to stop the race? If Hillary wants to take this to the convention there's no stopping her. The delegate count is not official until the convention roll call. Pelosi has been an awful Speaker and the House has done nothing since Democrats took over.

To Mikey in Arizona!! Three good choices for VP! I think Powell or Clark would go a long way to heal our country in terms of world view. It's so sad that the Bush administration did Colin so dirty; would be great to see him 2nd in command.

I do think that Clinton has the right to run through the primary s which end next week. Few have told her to stop but after the delegate count is taken and Obama has won the required amount then let's get together and unite.

Doesn't that make sense?

I'm glad that is going to take a stand on this. It has gone far too long and I don't think that it is for the good of the Democratic Party. I admire her determination.
