I agree with Dole and I'm now fan of George W. Bush or his administration. I highly doubt Scott McClellan had a recent epiphany. Quite the contrary, he served well over two years as the public face of the administration and publicly defended and reinforced its policies. If he truly felt as he says he does, he should have resigned much earlier than 2006 or not taken the position at all. So Dole is correct, he is a weasel who is looking to make a quick buck.

Every time Republicans get to the white house, they have a war in their agenda. This cowboy attitude has destroyed so many lives: over 4 thousand deaths, suicides, and wounded . So many families in distress. Now we have a recession and they still believe they will win again to continue their destruction.
Meanwhile we have those angry feminists pushing a suicidal agenda on the other sides. Hopefully fairness will prevail.
So this book was necessary to just confirm our doubt about this useless and evil war and this government that cost us our economy and put us in so much misery.
Now Fox is trying to divert our attention toward the democrats with a priest business so we can forget about the McClellan' book.

I lost all respect for Bob Dole when he wouldn't denounce the obvious falsehoods of the Swift Boat Veterans (only one of which actually served with Kerry), even McCain had the decency to call them out for what they were.

Bob Dole is a miserable creature, if it weren't for the the travesty of the Bush administration, I would say I'm glad he never became president, but even a scoundrel like Dole would have been prefereable to the Bush. As for McClellan, better late than never I guess, but really, is he saying anything that wasn't already blatantly obvious?

They make it sound like he got a millions of dollars for this book. If anything we should be thanking McClellan for finally telling the public what we all already knew but has now been confirm. People thought that those who wrote about watergate were also disloyal. So let me get this straight the government can be corrupt do whatever it wants but if we did the same thing we would get the book thrown at us. How interesting that McClellan's critics don't dispute the CONTENT of the book, only that (in their estimation) he shouldn't have said it. Guess they're forgetting that folks in government are supposed to be working for us, and when "The People" have been lied to, we have every right to know about it. And as for Scotty being a little late to 'fess up, better late than never. Maybe he can donate his royalties to medical aid for Iraqi children or to PTSD care for U.S. vets. Typical Bob Dole...criticizing a book he will never read and an author he sees as disloyal. Of course "loyalty " to BD is not what it is to normal people under the age of 100! Dole, don't forget was the only human being we saw (and disgustingly heard) sobbing at Richard Nixon's funeral, and that includes Nixon's entire family. Also keep in mind how Dole gave Newt Gingrich ( that's GAVE) a million bucks to pay fines for unethical behavior and retired from the Senate a very rich man, having come there with little more than the shirt on his back. It's either egregious hypocrisy or the hair dye has finally reached Dole's brain!

Granted, Scott McClellan should have come out earlier, but it is Bob Dole, despite his many honorable years of service to his country, that is showing a lack of courage and character. Sen. Dole is trying to be the good "party man," supporting its leadership and direction unconditionally – it is unfortunate that supporting his party and the country have become mutually exclusive. I have been Republican most of my life, but will be voting Democratic in November because the Republican party at large has degenerated into a corrupt, self-serviing, war-mongering, incompetent entity seemingly bent on running our country into the ground. Regardless on one's ideology, the U.S. as a whole is materially worse off than it was eight years ago by almost every conceivable measure (the exception being financial gain for those in the top couple percent in terms of wealth), and are on many future paths both domestically and internationally that will lead to further U.S. decline in influence and capability.

Sen. Dole would be much better off spending his energies calling the "miserable creatures" that are the current Republican leadership on the carpet for the disservice that have done this country – the one they all swore they would unswervingly serve.

I'm kinda surprised Dole is backing Bush so much on this. McKellan's job is spinning the presidential agenda, regardless of his personal feelings. The counter response from Dole and others is purposefully simplistic - "doesn't have the guts" or "should have said something". While I can definately see Bob Dole's point of view, and agree that it would have been more honorable to speak up at the time, I think that McClellan did the right thing by speaking out. It is better to tell the truth years after lying, than to never tell it at all. That is a great part of why our nation is in so much trouble right now. Republicans believe that loyalty to fellow Republicans is more important than loyalty to the truth. That kind of loyalty our country can do without!
I do agree with Dole that McClellan should donate the proceeds of this book to something if he really did write it with the purpose of living up to his Christian principles. People shouldn't get paid for going to the confessional to clear their conscience.
