Ferraro has been outspoken on race and gender issues during the primary season.

(CNN) - Geraldine Ferraro – who sparked controversy earlier this year with her comment that Barack Obama was only a viable presidential candidate because he was black – wrote in an op-ed published Friday that the Illinois senator’s campaign and the media may be responsible for “the effects of racism and sexism on the campaign [which] have resulted in a split within the Democratic Party that will not be easy to heal before election day.”

“Perhaps it's because neither the Barack Obama campaign nor the media seem to understand what is at the heart of the anger on the part of women who feel that Hillary Clinton was treated unfairly because she is a woman or what is fueling the concern of Reagan Democrats for whom sexism isn't an issue, but reverse racism is,” the former Democratic vice presidential candidate wrote in the Boston Globe Friday.

Reagan Democrats feel they have been mistreated during the campaign season, she writes, and since her March resignation from the Clinton campaign have repeatedly told her that “If you're white you can't open your mouth without being accused of being racist...”

“They see Obama's playing the race card throughout the campaign and no one calling him for it as frightening. They're not upset with Obama because he's black; they're upset because they don't expect to be treated fairly because they're white,” writes the former New York congresswoman. “It's not racism that is driving them, it's racial resentment. And that is enforced because they don't believe he understands them and their problems. That when he said in South Carolina after his victory ‘Our Time Has Come’ they believe he is telling them that their time has passed.”

Ferraro resigned from a post on the Clinton campaign’s finance committee following a media firestorm over her remarks about sexism and race.

“The reaction to the questions being raised has been not to listen to the message and try to find out how to deal with the problem, but rather to denigrate the messenger,” she wrote Friday. “Sore loser, petty, silly, vengeful are words that have dominated the headlines. But scolding and name calling don't resolve disputes.

“The truth is that tens of thousands of women have watched how Clinton has been treated and are not happy. We feel that if society can allow sexism to impact a woman's candidacy to deny her the presidency, it sends a direct signal that sexism is OK in all of society.”

She called on Harvard University’s Joan Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics and Public Policy to conduct a study, which she and other women would fund if necessary, to explore whether either of the Democratic candidates’ campaigns engaged in sexism or racism; whether Clinton was treated unfairly by the media; and “whether certain members of the media crossed an ethical line when they changed the definition of journalist from reporter and commentator to strategist and promoter of a candidate. And if they did to suggest ethical guidelines which the industry might adopt.”

“That sexism impacted Clinton's campaign, I have no doubt. Did she lose a close election because of sexism? I don't know. But I do know that it will never happen again as long as women are willing to stand up and make sure that it is just a one-time bad experience.”

Reverse racism? How about those Regan Dems in Kentucky and WV

who said outright that the reason they were not voting for BO was

because of race (how stupid they are), can she explain that one too? She

is such a sore loser and is bent on destroying BO's chances, how can

people become so bitter?

She's wrong. She's not a racist, or divisive, or an idiot. She just happens to be incorrect.

Hillary was beaten, fair and square. Sour grapes will do nothing to change that.

I'm white, over 50 and proud to vote for Obama.Hillary is a crybaby and setting a bad example for all us women.Because of her every man that sees this is going to start rethinking women in politics. She's ruined it for all of us.

mehrnoosh   May 30th, 2008 11:49 am ET

Obama never used the race card. It is Clintons and Ferraro who use it to turn off white voters. Recently this lady attended Fox news program and said she prefers McCain, a republican, over Obama who is a fellow democrat, this behavior shows the depth of her stupidity and selfishness.

Mac in Nova Scotia   May 30th, 2008 11:49 am ET

Ferraro is not the only one playing the race card. CNN is guilty for publishing this crap.

not her please   May 30th, 2008 11:49 am ET

I have a question for all the women who feel that Clinton deserves to be president because she's a woman. What would you do if two qualified women were running against each other? I'd think you'd probably vote for the most qualified. But, when only one woman is running we seem to need to vote for her or be labeled misogynistic. I don't get it. Just like I wouldn't vote for a black man just for the sake of getting the first black president, i wouldn't vote for a woman just for the sake of getting the first woman president. if there was a qualified woman running, i'd probably vote for her. But i will not vote for a divisive, polarizing, vindictive, deceitful woman, just for the sake of getting a woman president.

Democrat for President   May 30th, 2008 11:49 am ET

What a nut job!! She reminds me of my 94 year old grandma who I love dearly but who has some old time jaded views on race and sexism. Ferraro is not doing the party or Sen. Clinton any favors by opening her mouth. I guess in this election of hypersensitivity that anyone can get on CNN. What is Geraldine's role in the Democratic Party anyway? I don't honestly know. Ferraro, is the one driving the hate and sexism and racism as she brings it up everytime a microphone is her face. Goodness. Please just be quiet and let Sen. Clinton and her campaign speak for themselves. If I remember right you are no longer part of the campaign. Therefore, please just shut-up. You are not doing us women any favors.

Cyder   May 30th, 2008 11:49 am ET

CNN! Why do you give this giant skank any play? It really just makes your network look bad.

If white racist democrats won't vote for Obama, then we don't want them anyways.

elmerg   May 30th, 2008 11:48 am ET

I'd like for Ms. Ferraro to actually point out just one incident of the Obama campaign playing the race card during this election season. Certainly there are plenty of cable TV shills bringing it up but give me some solid proof of Obama employing it, Geraldine, because we sure do have the goods on you and your racists ways.

ue heinz   May 30th, 2008 11:48 am ET

Do I hear noise from the hollow pot again?

melody   May 30th, 2008 11:48 am ET

These kind of talk in fact harms the true feminism and real women, who are strong and struggling everyday to support their families.

Mrs. Clinton does not behave like a true democrat or a true real woman. She somehow made herself and her supporters believe that she is entitled to become the president. And she is trying to justify it with any argument, be it NAFTA, bitter comments, sexism, racism..

Mrs. Clinton lost a lot of credit in this race, and in fact lost long ago. President Clinton I believe lost as much credit as Mrs. Clinton lost.

Last year when I first heard about the candidates, I was first exited, who knows maybe it's Hillary, first female president of US ! But very fast she changed my mind that she is not the one.

I congratulate Barack Obama for his calm, gentilmanly attitude. I also like him that he resist to use cheap tactics like gas tax holiday. I believe he is not going to be the first black president only, but also he will become one of the very best presidents of US.

Very kind regards,
Melody

steven   May 30th, 2008 11:48 am ET

Whether Geraldine Ferraro is a racist or not it is impossible to deny that she is using that as a tool for political ends. The fact that she is attempting to smear Obama shows that Hillary intends to weaken his canidacy so that he looses in Nov. Hillary I will never support you–ever! You are vile.

Toby   May 30th, 2008 11:48 am ET

oh please, I wish Ferraro would either say something constructive or look for some way to reconcile or just hold her mouth. What does she want, the Obama half of the party to just go away? Get real. This is some of the most divisive stuff I've heard since Rev. Wright.

michele   May 30th, 2008 11:48 am ET

The problem is, Ferraro is dreadfully unaware of what she is saying and how she is saying it. She seems to be the one making divisive moves here, playing all the various cards, etc... It is not the 80s anymore! (Thank goodness!)

Obama and Clinton are two very different people, with very different personalities. Both are privileged educationally and economically (Clinton much more so economically). Beyond that, Obama has written extensively about his upbringing, yet has never played that card. Clinton seems to, continually, portray herself as a victim. Maybe she has been so deeply victimized, over the years, by her husband, that she cannot see herself in any other light. Tragic, because it makes her look profoundly unaware.

JB   May 30th, 2008 11:48 am ET

What about you and the Clinton campaign palying the gender card repeatedly.

Have you ever thought about why the Obama supporters are fuming mad at Hillary?

First, her sense of entitlement.
Second, her "I don't have to play by the rules attitude".
Third, her ability to flat out LIE. Without blinking.
Fourth, the fact that she says something and all of her supporters immediatedly believe it and regurgitate it. For example, "I am winning the popular vote".

Hillary and her supporters are the ones to blame. Not Obama. Maybe if this woman didn't lie, and manipulate facts. Didn't whine "why do I always get called on first", cry (NH)., we would all be better off!!

Do not try to turn this around on Obama and his supporters. This has nothing to do with women. It has to do with Hillary Clinton. Unless, Ms. Ferraro, you believe all woman lie, whine, manipulate facts and have this sense of entitlement.

Franky   May 30th, 2008 11:48 am ET

No offense to Ferraro but she's sounding like my dad!! No offense to that woman but maybe she should check what country we live in......

Jerry   May 30th, 2008 11:48 am ET

Geraldine need to go somewhere with all these accusation I think she is a racism person and Hillary know Geraldine is a a racism they are trying they best for Obama not to be elected, this is disgrace to America Hillary and Geraldine acting like men's

Farrell, Houston, Tx   May 30th, 2008 11:48 am ET

FERRARO IS USING THIS OPPORTUNITY TO VENT HER RAGE AGAINST DEMOCRATS WHO DIDN'T SUPPORT HER WHEN SHE RAN. FERRARO DON'T TAKE IT OUT ON US BECAUSE YOU'RE THE LOSER, TAKE IT OUT ON HILLARY BECAUSE SHE STOLE YOUR THUNDER THAT YOU THOUGHT YOU ONCE HAD. SO JUST CRAWL BACK UNDER THAT OLD ROCK OF YOURS.

Chi4Obama   May 30th, 2008 11:48 am ET

So let me get this straight.

Geraldine Ferraro accuses Obama of playing the "Race card"?? Even though he is "Bi-racial" (not just black). Not once has he made allegations of "racism" during his campaign. In fact, it's funny how the only time race seems to surface, is when the Clinton campaign brings it up.

And I guess, it's ok for her and Hillary to play the "Gender card" as well huh. Go figure.

Borefore P. Jallah   May 30th, 2008 11:48 am ET

what does she actually wants?????? Would it had been fair if obama supporters had said sen.Clinton was in de race because she is married to an ex-president? If she cannot add, then please dont subtract!!! find smoething worthwhile to do!

Disgusted   May 30th, 2008 11:48 am ET

This woman is as sick as her counterpart Hillary. They are both delusional...They are desperate and clearly clawing on to every last thing left to make sure they get in. They have no shame....the WH is no one's heritage and should not be treated as such. How can they say Obama has played the race card all along when they were the ones who kept talking about black and white.....

Shame on you Geraldine and shame on your candidate Hillary!

Michael   May 30th, 2008 11:48 am ET

You know there is an old saying, if you can’t say anything intelligent then don’t say anything at all. I am sick of small minded people who have nothing better to do than focus on the color of someone’s skin. She wants to whine and cry because of alleged mistreatment of Hillary Clinton of which there is no proof. It is amazing to me what people will say, it is amazing what people choose to believe about someone and the most amazing thing is they will not go in and check the facts. This race has turned into a joke and I fear it will only get worse because of people like Ferraro.

Ms. Ferraro   May 30th, 2008 11:48 am ET

what do you really want? Aren't you the same person who said you might not be vote for Obama if he is the nominee? If that is the case, why do you evern care to speak up at all?
Let it go!!!!!!

Shelby Y.   May 30th, 2008 11:48 am ET

So Gerry, when exactly did you join the Republican party? Question, are all the women that support Obama sexist also? Stop it! These false claims of sexism do nothing to help fight the real sexism that exsist in this country.

FYI: You and HILLARY DONT SPEAK FOR THIS WOMAN!!!!!!!!!!

EJ   May 30th, 2008 11:48 am ET

Spread the blame all you want (and get nowhere). The fact is that regardless of who the first woman candidate is, or who the first black candidate is, we would be having this very same argument. You can make the sexist argument day and night, but if you're blind to the reality that the Clinton campaign has benefited from race in many of the same ways then you're argument comes off as completely unhelpful, and as completely biased and self-motivated.

Jan, Knoxville, TN   May 30th, 2008 11:48 am ET

I wish Geraldine would shut up and join the Republican Party!

bridgette   May 30th, 2008 11:48 am ET

This lady is crazy. What she is really trying to do is finish what Hilary started and trying to alert everyone that this guy is black. Can you see that people. I think she was going to be Hilary's running mate and they were going too take over the world. I don't think she will vote for him niether will Hilary. Bill will because he understands politics. And as soon as Hilary gets out of the race Bill will campaign with him and for him. Because he likes winners. He cannot wait to get out there with Obama. But not Hilary. I am beginning to understand why we have never had a female President. These two historical figures Ferraro and Hilary are acting like two spoil brats that can't have their way. The only reason Obama is winning is because people voted for him. That is the part they don't understand. He got out their and met the people and the people liked what they heard and voted for him. The same thing with Hilary. She got out there and met with the people and they liked what she said and voted for her. The only thing is more people voted for him. So ladies get over it and move on.

???   May 30th, 2008 11:48 am ET

Obama has been playing the race card the entire campaign? When did that happen? I could have sworn we would have heard something about it after, oh, I don't know, WEST VIRGINIA and KENTUCKY, but no, all he did was congratulate her on her victory. IF anyone is guilty it's the voters and the media this stupid 'blame Obama for all of Hillary's woes' game needs to stop. What are they going to say next, that Monica Lewinsky was actually Obama in disguise?

Jonathan   May 30th, 2008 11:48 am ET

Wow, this lady needs help. Why is she so devisive. And for all you Hillary supporters or feminist out there that doesn't see that should be ashamed of yourselves. Barack Obama has given nothing but praise to Hillary Clinton and was very careful not to disrespect her and so has Hillary Clinton. But when a surrogate like Ferraro comes out and says that, it's DIVISIVE!!! We need to unite in order to put this country back on track, we are all hurting. By the way, all of you who say that they would vote for John Mccain instead of Barack Obama because Hillary is not the nominee, means that at heart you were Republicans all along, and that you do not care about our country

Dj   May 30th, 2008 11:48 am ET

So very, very sad...

Robin   May 30th, 2008 11:48 am ET

What is wrong with Ms. Geraldine Ferraro? She made a mistake in the first place by telling that Mr. Obama is going forward because of his skin clor and she cannot stop making similar mistakes. If being a colored-skin could help someone to become the president, why we have not seen any colored-skin president yet?

skunkrat The Marine   May 30th, 2008 11:48 am ET

I'm a yellow Dog Democrat, believe me when i say Obama will have some serious challenges in the General Election. It would help if his supporters would stop attacking everyone that attempts to criticize him. He will need a unified Democratic Party to win and his young and clueless supporters are driving many would be supporters away.

Lisa   May 30th, 2008 11:48 am ET

All of you harping on Obama supporters are in a state of denial. What she is saying partially true and also what the priest said is true. Both camps have had individuals to toss out crazy information. It is true!!! Hillary on the other hand, has basically set the standard for her "white" supporters!!!! You guys are full of bull! I will be so glad to see her go away and I hope those of you whosay you won't vote for him for whatever reason stay home!!!!!!

Chris   May 30th, 2008 11:47 am ET

Reagan Democrats !? Reagan was over 20 years ago. Get over it and stop interfering.

Ben   May 30th, 2008 11:47 am ET

What a bitter egotistical woman. She was a candidate for vise president only because she was a woman, and the democrats mistakenly believed. her name on the ticket would bring in a lot of women voters. They were wrong!!!
I believe she is still laboring under the ilusion that this whole thing revolves around sex and race.

Victoria   May 30th, 2008 11:47 am ET

I find your ideology frightening, AND divisive!

39 year old white woman   May 30th, 2008 11:47 am ET

Why must I, as a woman, vote for Hillary? She is republican-lite, inside-the-beltway, and just more of the same. I am sick of people like Ms. Ferraro trying to scare people like me into voting for a candidate I do not agree with and do not and will not support.

This is how we know we've reached true equality – I can choose NOT to vote for a female candidate because I disagree with her policies and track record, just like I can apply the same logic to a male candidate.

Obama 08!

Pat   May 30th, 2008 11:47 am ET

So much for uniting the Democratic party! She is trying to excuse her comments. I am a woman and I don't feel Clinton has been treated unfairly, no more than Obama. Big mouth Bill has caused more trouble than he's worth! If we were to measure racism against feminism, who do you think would win? The Clintons are desparate and will use any tactics they can to get back in the White House! If we women can't win HONESTLY, then at least behave like the Ladies you profess to be. I am behind OBAMA and have been from the beginning. I am not voting for a race or sex, but for a person who can heal this bleeding nation.

FloridaVoter   May 30th, 2008 11:47 am ET

a nut job.... and so irrelevant... whats happening to CNN?

Anonymous   May 30th, 2008 11:47 am ET

Hillary was treated unfairly?? Her campaign made critical mistakes early to even allow an opening that Obama walked through. They were arrogant and cocky and thought she had it all wrapped up. Simple fact is there are many of us that feel "blessed" by 8 years of the Clintons and don't feel 8 more would be a good thing.

Time for some youth, time for someone not entrenched and corrupted by years in Washington.

I have lost a ton of respect for Ferraro.

RD   May 30th, 2008 11:47 am ET

I love the way the Clinton team uses reverse Psychology. I can hear them now...Let's say he played the race card so all the white people will be offended and come over to our side. Let's say we've been sexually discriminated against so all the women will be angry and join us.

Somebody close the old hag cage at the Brooklyn zoo?

How is Ferraro any different then the catholic priest that spoke in Obama's church? Does it not seem that Ferraro feels that Hillary was to be President thru divine right and then this black upstart comes in with a muslim name and smoked her. There is nothing more bitter then a over 50 feminist who feels they didn't get their deserves.

I'm A Regan Dem   May 30th, 2008 11:46 am ET

I believe HRC should stay in the race, if she had a chance of winning the nomination under the rules that all agreed to. Her camp has moved the goalpost so many times and it appears they are willing to continue moving the goal until it favovrs the Clintons. They don't care about what's good for the party. They say they do, but that's just doulbe talk. They care about the Clintons, period!! If HRC and Bill are handed this nomination, the Dems can forget about the WH for at least the next 8 years, if not longer. The Clintons are "despised!" In the general election, the flood gate of voters on the "RIGHT," will make the record turnouts of Dem voter in the primary look like childs play. Are Dems willing to risk lossing the WH for 8 more years? Folks need to think about what it really means to have a Clinton nomination

Its surrogates like Ferraro using the race card in the name of the candidates. Hillary has not receive sexually biased treatment! She was treated like anyone WITH MORE EXPERIENCE! The incumbents are always scrutinized more MAINLY because in their tenure they have more to scrutinize! Sounds to me you wanted Hillary to have SPECIAL treatment and that to me is sexism! DUH!!! "The effects of racism and sexism on the campaign [which] have resulted in a split within the Democratic Party that will not be easy to heal before election day.”

Thank you, Geraldine, for fueling both, and widening the divide. Now please sit down and be quiet.

David, Silver Spring, MD   May 30th, 2008 11:45 am ET

I am absolutely befuddled by this woman.

Geraldine Ferraro is turning out to be the Frankenstein's (Clinton's) monster of this campaign. She is taking every innuendo that Clinton has put out there to promote her candidacy–from Obama is the candidate of black people, to Obama and the media are against women–and is shouting it on public streets.

This is what happens when politicians like Hillary Clinton and her camp think it's fair game to say anything to score points on the Sunday morning talk shows–some people take those words as true, and act on them.

Geraldine Ferraro scares me. And it was Hillary Clinton who brought her to life.

Rob   May 30th, 2008 11:45 am ET

This divisive angle that Hillary and her ardent supporters have taken is shameless. In essence they're accusing the Obama supporters (and the media) of the same bigotry that they're spewing. So, there is a double standard for racism, but not for sexism? Come on. Bitter, petty? Yes I agree with those... and the wedge that's being driven into the campaign is being created by these bitter women. The fact that they liken the current scenario in Florida and Michigan to disenfranchisement is beyond insulting. This is a primary, not a general election. The fact that she drags Reagan dems into it shows that she's intent to show she's not bitter. Sorry that Hillary and her supporters felt entitled to the nomination – since the same media handed it to her a year ago, but she's the most polarizing figure in politics and many people dislike her for her arrogance and selfishness. Some of what the republicans said about the Clintons is actually true.

I say she did this to herself. As for the race card I won't make a comment. this has been nothing but untruths and this woman won't stop until she destroy any chance for obama.

Reagan Democratics are really Conservative Republicans who can't read or write. So when they completed thier Voter registration card, they had checked off democrat instead of conservative. Mrs. Ferraro please tells the public when was the last time this voting bloc has voted for a democrat.

Rick in Florida   May 30th, 2008 11:45 am ET

Now THIS is a better definition of BITTER.......she lost with Mondale and has always blamed SEXISM for it. Now this misconception has found a new home in Hillary's campaign.

FACE IT.......Ferraro, both Clintons, and people like them are the ones who KEEP BRINGING UP sexism and racism...NOT Obama.

leon   May 30th, 2008 11:45 am ET

What Obama supporters and the rest of the Democratic Party are missing is that the Party is really divided like it has never been. ALmos t half of the Party supports Hillary and what she stands for. The DNC leadership and the Obama supporters do not realize that without the other half of the Democratic voters we will not win.

however all these kids, african-americans and upscale democrats keep offending and spilling hate and venom from their mouth and leading the division among the Democrats to places that will be really hard to heal and reconcile again.

I see a clear path of defeat if we do not do something fast and it is not what the DNC is doping tomorrow as they are highly responsible of the whole mess we are in.

Obama did not play race card...he just responded to attacks.....if he did so what. HRC has been playing gender card!

Lee   May 30th, 2008 11:45 am ET

What is really sinister here is the implication that Affirmative Action is Barack Obama's only way to the White House. Basically, she's saying that he wouldn't have won (fair and square) on delegates if he were white. Ridiculous. Hillary lost because she ran a bad campaign up until six weeks ago. Ferraro is not a racist. But she gives all people out there who are "worried" about a black president a reason to keep worrying by implanting these ridiculous suggestions in their heads. This is EVERYONE's time to start over. If she's upset, it's because the coalition that Barack Obama has formed IS bigger and better than the Regan Democrats who vote primarily based on identity politics and social issues. Why is it that whites in America feel this entitled to the presidency, and why is it that no one is ready to give Barack Obama his due? He ran a good campaign and he won. To blame that on "reverse racism" which only exists in the minds of whites in America to dumb to recognize the inherent advantage of being white is irresposible, and it panders to those who just want a reason to hate Obama when he's done nothing wrong. Pure evil.

mike - chicago   May 30th, 2008 11:45 am ET

is she paying attention to anything? hillary as the victim and the fighter has not worked.

also, how can obama be seen as someone who divides? if you listen to him for more than three seconds you realize this is the opposite of his message. the division has been create by the other participants and their rovean campaign strategies. your time is up.

The Clear Thinking Indepedent   May 30th, 2008 11:45 am ET

America is not mature enough to handle the 1st African American & the 1st Woman contending for Presidency at the same time.

When Hillary was the front runner and Barack was a "nobody", it was OK because no one thought the conflict between the two campaigns would arrise.

From very early on, Hillary made an outward appeal to women ... "Let's make history" she said over and over to largely female audiences. These are her words, not an interpretation of the campaign slogans or her supporters like Ferrao.

Mr. Obama, never made a similar appeal to people under 50 years of age, African Americans, college & post graduate degree holders (or whoever the media seeks to align as his supporters).

Hillary tried to walk both sides of the line ... that's why she's in trouble. You can't talk about being "Ready on Day 1 to be COMMANDER IN CHIEF" and then whine & cry. You can't have your husband talk about politics as a "Contact Sport" or say "if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen" and then complain when you get hit back after you've employed a "throw the kitchen sink" strategy.

Honorable Democrats ... Honest Democrats ... That's what America want. Blue means Trustworthy ....

American questions if Hillary deserves to wear the Blue.

Even if Hillary runs as an independent she will LOSE. Where is she going to get the money. Her supporters get on very site talking about how great she is but they are not putting their money where their mouth is.

Sen. Clinton is losing the Dem. Party's nomination fair and square - she has fewer delegates than Sen. Obama does. It has nothing to do with her gender, and she is in fact totally undermining feminist progress when she plays the victim of sexism as an explanation for her loss. Was there sexism in this race? Yes. Is the the reason, or has it even contributed slightly to her loss? Absolutely not.

Go Obama '08

AnnaLisa   May 30th, 2008 11:44 am ET

Obama was not the one that injected race into this campaign. Hillary is playing both the race and gender card. Last time I checked this isn't about electing someone that looks like you; it is about selecting an honest and responsible leader. Hillary doesn't know how to lose; may she burn in hell.

Ms. GA   May 30th, 2008 11:44 am ET

And by the way, the Clintons forced Obama to bring race in this campaign. He never once said anything about it until NC when Bill opened his mouth. He tries not to mention race but she continues to mention being a woman. Do you hear Obama telling voters to vote for him because he's black? NO! Do you hear Clinton telling people to vote for her because she is a woman? YES!

Tim from Buffalo   May 30th, 2008 11:44 am ET

The exit polling reflects that of voters that gender mattered to they overwelmingly supported clinton. The exit polls say that of voters who said race mattered to them overwelmingly supported Clinton.

Her opinion is not supported by fact and is therefore the weaker of the "racism vs. sexism in '08" debate.

Geraldine Ferraro, America's sweetheart...

Give it up, sister! As a woman who runs her own business, takes care of her home, her bills and generally has been Superwoman all her life, you disgust me. Is this how all older white people really think? And what about Black people? Why can't we express our pain without being accused of living in the past? Why don't the Reaganicans just admit that Black people had their own Holocaust, right here in America, and that the effects of 400 years CANNOT be erased in less than 70 years!!!!

Andrew   May 30th, 2008 11:43 am ET

Dana in north Carolina   May 30th, 2008 11:42 am ET

As a woman Geraldine Ferraro does not speak for me. If she was really trying to help Hillary Clinton, she would not speak for her either. Ferraro is irrelevant, and her rants make her appear an extremist at best, and a racist at worst. if the real aim is equality, and it should be, then why keep throwing the word sexism in the mix, and instead talk about why she thinks Clinton is the stonger candidate, not just how she thinks it is unfair that Clinton is losing, and yes she is losing. Isn't this just the same thing people keep accusing the Obama camp of, saying that they keep bringing up race, and then if you say anything about it, you must be a racist. By the way if you are actually paying attention, the Obama campaign does not constantly bring up race, or bring it up pretty much at all. That would again be the Clinton camp, ala "hard working white people", etc, and Ferraro "He wouldn't be a viable candidate if he were not black"..........

Yet another interesting tactic?? Or just more Bull....?

And, Reagan Democrats were smart enough to independantly choose the better candidate. They dont just follow the crowd and vote republican because an old yenta like Ferraro says they are.

Ken   May 30th, 2008 11:42 am ET

I personally think if Barack Hussein Obama gets the nominee, and goes up against McCain in November, he WILL LOSE!

I also agree with Ferraro in that the main stream media has been unfair to the Clinton campaign and gave Barack Hussein Obama way more positive media coverage than what they gave Hillary Clinton.

I cannot believe that the media thinks of Barack Hussein Obama as the up and coming "Golden Boy"? He is like any other politician, and after reading what he did in Chicago in his first run for State Senate, proves that he is like any other politician.

I believe that if Obama gets the nominee, then ALL of the Hillary Clinton's followers should tell her to become an Independent, and we ALL can vote for Hillary. If Obama gets the nominee, I plan on writing Hillary's name as a "write-in candidate". Or else, end up voting for McCain.

People who are racist and live their lives hating another race should be placed on a plane and send to some other country for 2 years to live and work and eat besides the race they hate until they are no longer a racist.

Get a real life Ferraro and buck up like a true woman, that has some gumption left in your life.

Sandi   May 30th, 2008 11:42 am ET

Geraldine needs to reexamine her stance – Hillary has not been treated unfairly because she is a woman. Anything wrong with Hillary's campaign is not a result of sexism – Geraldine get a grip. The media has not played any more of a role in Hillary's campaign as it has in Obama's or McCain's – the truth speaks for itself. Hillary has run a mockery of a campaign, from Chelsea jogging near the towers, to her own brush with death and the sniper fire, to her husband's blunders and outbursts. And you speak of ethics – go away Geraldine – you have hit an all time low.

steveda - poconos   May 30th, 2008 11:42 am ET

She may have resigned from the Clinton campaign but now she is the unofficial attack dog!! Hillary was treated unfairly? How? The poress downplayed the lies about Bosnia, Northern Ireland and NAFTA. they have not pressed any further for disclosure on donations to the Clinton library, they have not explored the multiple connections of people within her campaign and the Columbia Free Trade Agreement, or the involvement of lobbyists and lobby money in her campaign.

Frankly that yhave goven her a free ride there and allow her to continue to press her nonsensical "I am winning" statements by not calling them the bald faced lies that they are.

The pure fact is Clinton underestimated her opponent and ran a misguided and ismanaged campaign. She complains about Obama overspending her by 3 or 4 to 1 despite that she has raised almost as much money as he has. So why the difference in spending? Perhaps because he is a better executive. Perhaps that would make him a better steward of the national budget. Perhaps he is just a better candidate. Has that crossed Hillary or Geraldine's minds?

Marc in Virginia   May 30th, 2008 11:42 am ET

Ms. Ferraro's comments just add more fuel to the fire that John McCain is eager to see burning. PLEASE STOP WHINING about "sexism" and "racism" and get with the program. Does she want a Republican to continue the disaster that has been torturing this country for the last eight years or will she finally realize we need a CHANGE and renovation (if that's still possible) of the United States. The people have spoken for Senator Obama so lets give him the full support he needs to win the White House and STOP feeding McCain's propaganda machine.

Ivee   May 30th, 2008 11:42 am ET

I don't understand this woman's logic, nor do I understand why she thinks her stance would do her candidate any good at all. But given that she seems - at the very least - to be somewhat nuts and quite vindictive, I'm glad she's not in public office.

Scott Taylor   May 30th, 2008 11:42 am ET

Geraldine Ferraro is pretty irrelevant. Did she ever matter? "Reverse racism"? What do white people have to be afraid of? She is the one injecting race in this. I think it would be awesome to have a black president. It might show the world we aren't just a country of rednecks and idiots. But that is substantial part of our country. How else could you explain the fact that Fox News exists?

If not Hillary....then McCain   May 30th, 2008 11:41 am ET

It's easy to see why many Obama supporters are so easily swayed by rhetoric. They really don't see the big picture! They are naive and they are gullible. It is unfortunate that he has been able to mesmerize so many, but the truely sad issue is that so many Americans are so naive, and politically ignorant.

Phil   May 30th, 2008 11:41 am ET

I would vote for Obama's ideals if he were White, Black, or a woman. This lady is clearly underestimating him, as Hillary's campaign did. That is why they are currently losing.

The irony is that all Hillary supporters talk about is sexism, and essentially they are the ones that bring up race as well.

Fluff only gets you so far. Obama talks issues. It is after all, an election for a President who works for us, not for their own legacy.

this women is a hypocrite. she says that “If you're white you can't open your mouth without being accused of being racist…”. but yet, she accuses anyone that is not a clinton supporter of being sexist anytime they open their mouth. if hillary is not the dems nominee, it wont be because of sexism, sweety.

Keep telling the truth Ms. Ferraro!

carolflowery   May 30th, 2008 11:40 am ET

She speaks the truth, and I honestly believe if we all just see things as they are instead of trying to put spin spin spin on it, we will then
be more united, the name calling and the bashing of a former First Lady has been despictable irrerguardless of who you support. I wouldnt bash any First Lady just because an election is at hand. I see
a very need for whites and blacks alike to look at themselves and their very hearts and souls and face the truth about themselves. On that note, I truly believe all other races that are American citizens that are neither black or white must wonder at times if they are invisible. Could it be that both whites and blacks just yell louder? I think this is the case.

Emma, San Jose, CA   May 30th, 2008 11:40 am ET

Ferraro is so hysterical. She is asking for research to prove a point that won't make a difference and won't elect her candidate.
For one thing, peoples' thoughts, feelings, attitudes are difficult to measure in a way that cause and effect can be proven. The reason people make choices is comprised of factors that defy measurement. Secondly, sexism and racism cannot be controlled by legislation.

Her words "but I know it will never happen again as long as women are willing to stand up and make sure that it is just a one-time bad experience" (in reference to Hillary's campaign being impacted by sexism). As a woman I never want to lose the right to vote my way,
and that could mean voting for a man.

Obama supporters – please knock it off with the foul language and insults! Support your candidate without slamming anyone else. Ferraro's comments are unfortunate, but just let it go. It doesn't help Obama's cause by foaming at the mouth about it, or screaming at Hillary/Ferraro supporters. Just let it go, and let's work towards unity. Supporting Obama with dignity will help more than anything else.

Please go and sitedown. I am very disappointed to Geraldine Ferraro. She should be the one making sure that the party are together and not divided. Please respect yourself.
At your age you should show good example to others.

Not as frightening as you were when you ran against Reagan. Remember you are one of the Democrats that forced your party members to the Republicans...thus creating the term "Reagan Democrats" What would you know about that ???

BosnianSniper   May 30th, 2008 11:40 am ET

Geraldin, nobody cares what you think! Shut your ancient and stupid self the hell up and go back to the KKK meeting.

You and Bill and Hillary KKKlinton are the biggest jokes in politics right up there with Bush.

Patty   May 30th, 2008 11:39 am ET

Before I blog – CNN probably won't post this. Obama is frightening. Cnn why are you not letting us discuss about the horrible "priest" in Obama's church? No we cannot hold Obama accountable for what others say but this is his background for the last 20 years. The hate in his church for white people is frightening and he was there. Wake up people!

PS from Tennessee   May 30th, 2008 11:39 am ET

Why don't you get off your rag and quite being so jealous of a biracial intelligent Presidential nominee. You and Billary could learn a lesson from him regarding respect. You are never going to amount to your full potential of Supreme "B", so let the people speak and elect a man who will be able to live up to his. I'm so sick of you, Hillary and Bill blaming everybody else for her loss! Grow up!

Alison B   May 30th, 2008 11:39 am ET

What's with this woman. People are forgetting or maybe they are just looking at the color of his skin but he is 50% black and the other 50% white – raised by white family no influence of black while growing up.
I hate it when people try to define situations using meaningless terminology.

The whole point is that Hilary is losing, and she is losing for many reasons (untrustworthiness, dishonesty and lies, lies and more lies). It has nothing to do with the fact that she is a woman as a woman it would be wonderful to have a woman in charge but she cannot even manage her campaign funds (20 million in the hole) how can she manage the countrys' financial issue. If she were more electable like what she is saying she would be very much ahead.

One more thing if the tables were turned would she have been this anxious for all the votes (Michigan and Florida) to be counted because I do recall in the beginning when she was in the lead and she said it does not matter those votes don't count but now that she is hanging by a thin thread they count not that it will make a difference.

DEMOCRATS 4 HILLARY '08   May 30th, 2008 11:39 am ET

Thank you for your clear and well-expressed analysis.

Most of us who don't have a crush on Obama are in fact having a hard time understanding those who do or understanding why their vision seems to become so clouded and why their thinking seems to have become so bizarrely twisted (surely, the thinking of anyone who calls him or herself a Democrat, pats Murdoch and McClellan on the back for nonsensical praise for Obama, and then turns to spit on Hillary has been bizarrely twisted).

Thank you.

Regan Democrats is why Bush was elected not once, but twice. New people are being drawn to the political process who don't have your archaic ideas and understanding of politics coming down to polarization are entering the process so the "Reagan Democrats" can continue to vote against their best interests and whine about it later.

So kick rocks Geraldine!

Unite Behind Obama   May 30th, 2008 11:39 am ET

Racist white people come up with every excuse they can to deny, rationalize, or marginalize their bias. "Reverse racism?"

That's just another way to deflect responsibility. There are far more whites who wouldn't vote for a black man than there are blacks who wouldn't vote for a white woman. The percentages are greatly different, too. Saying "He doesn't understand us" doesn't cut it. YOU don't understand HIM. Try...try to get over your hatred and resentment, and try to understand him.

Clinton lost fewer votes for being a woman than Obama has lot for being black.

Ferraro, trailblazer...HAHAHA. Everytime this woman shows up and speaks, it harkens back to 1984 when she was on the ticket with Kennedy and got crushed. She is probably the most divisive women in modern politics and Hillary sillary has been using this b!tches playbook. Bill is all for sex(ism), Geraldine and Hillary sillary=lovers?

Where is Huma Abedin?

jc   May 30th, 2008 11:39 am ET

Ms. Ferraro betrays her own fears here. This campaign has shown us how far we have to go as individuals and as a nation with regard to gender and race.

What is "frightening" is the anger and bitterness that supporters of both sides have demonstrated. Personally I believe that the Clintons are guilty of feeding this, which in turn has caused Obama supporters to bare their teeth. For his part, Senator bama has demostrated great poise and patience.

Ms. Ferraro should re-read Gloria Steinham's book, "Revolution from Within," which points out quite well the unrecognized prejudices that we all have to wrestle with.

As far as those "reagan democrats", well, isn't she really just saying that they won't vote for an African-American?

Joe   May 30th, 2008 11:39 am ET

Geraldine Ferraro is insane, and clearly deaf and blind, too. I'd like to know an example of someone criticizing Obama and being called a racist because of it. Yet whenever anyone has criticized Clinton for just about any reason they've been accused, either subtlety or overtly, of being sexist. And for those who have said that the media is sexist, I have heard from those from other countries, namely the UK, that the way our media has covered this election would be considered incredibly racist in their country.

mozartt   May 30th, 2008 11:39 am ET

To say that Senator Obama has used the race card, is a blatant lie! In fact, he has done the opposite! I find it interesting that Ferraro never entertains the idea that the reason Senator Clinton has gotten where she is because she is flying on the coattails of her former husband and you can bet she uses his "wonderful Presidency" whenever she can. Does anyone really think that she would be where she is without him? I get furious with idiots like Ferraro who are so intent on hiring a woman that they are incapable of fairly evaluating the other candidate. Barack Obama is not where he is because of the colour of his skin – the idea is simply ludicrous! Try and imagine the kind obstacles he has overcome. He did so, because he is brilliantly intelligent, is authentic and real and has a sensible and reasonable vision for the country (similar to the one Hillary Clinton has!. So grow up Ferraro!! Oh by the way, I am a white woman!

Charlie S.   May 30th, 2008 11:39 am ET

It is troublesome that CNN or the Boston Globe reports what this lunatic says. As a Republican, I hope she and her crazy counterpart Hillary keep up there insanity about sexism and drive the Democratic party into non existence. This woman is so out of touch with reality that someone should have her examined psychologically. The sad thing is that she knows she would be nothing, and I mean nothing, but for the fact that she is a woman. Had she been born a man, there is no way she would have been picked as running mate in 1984 and never would have had a political career. Poor girl, she's just angry at herself, and thank God she isn't in my party!

DJ   May 30th, 2008 11:39 am ET

Geraldine Ferraro, please stop it you are disgracing women all over the world when you play every card possible to explain why Hillary lost. If anything she had every advantage in the world. The media had crowned Hillary the democratic nominee before the race started and she was the first lady and her husband was the most popular president in the last 40 years in the democratic party. She had most of the heavy party insiders in all of the states backing her and I could go on.

The report should be about how in the world could anyone; male or female lose an election with the odds so heavily stacked in their favor. This report would help not just females but males as well. Barack Obama has pulled off the upset of the century which should be studied by all.

Sue   May 30th, 2008 11:39 am ET

Clinton is losing because she was blinded by entitlement. I was a former supporter who lost respect for her during this nasty campaign. Comments like these by Ms. Ferraro are divisive at this point, and simply underline that the Clinton campaign will not go down without causing the maximun collateral damage in the process.

rudy   May 30th, 2008 11:39 am ET

Bitter, bitter woman who should just sit down. Its easy to point blame at Obama instead of putting the blame on how the Clinton campaing was run. How can Mrs. Clinton claim sexism, when she does not include the total votes in all states including cacuses of the the American voters. You can't cherry pick which states are important, then loses the other states and claim sexism. She should admit that their campaign strategy was in error and that is the reason she is losing, not sexism and not racism.

Dana in north Carolina   May 30th, 2008 11:39 am ET

As a woman Geraldine Ferraro does not speak for me. If she was really trying to help Hillary Clinton, she would not speak for her either. Ferraro is irrelevant, and her rants make her appear an extremist at best, anda racist at worst. if the real aim is equality, and it should be, then why keep throwing the word sexism in the mix, and instead talk about why she thinks Clinton is the stonger candidate, not just how she thinks it is unfair that Clinton is losing, and yes she is losing. Isn't this justthe same thing people keep accusing the Obama camp of, saying that they keep bringing up race, and ithen if you say anything about it, you must be a racist.

Huh! and how are the Obama campaign and the media responsible for...

“the effects of racism and sexism on the campaign [which] have resulted in a split within the Democratic Party that will not be easy to heal before election day.”?

With all due respect, YOU are the Democrat who is FRIGHTENING!!!!!

James   May 30th, 2008 11:39 am ET

Quite frankly I am sick and tired of these lame excuses as to why Sen. Clinton is losing. It is not because of sexism or reverse racism. It is because she thought her coronation was inevitable and she did not plan for anything else but that.

Please quit making excuses Mrs. Ferraro when your candidate plays the race card more than anyone.

James   May 30th, 2008 11:39 am ET

By "Our time has come" Obama meant time for those who want politics of division done away with has come. Just because the Obama made the remark in an African-American dominant state doesn't mean it was racially tinged. Geraldine Ferraro wants us to see everything Obama through racial lens. What about the "Working, hard working, white working Americans are supporting me" statement Hillary made just after the West Virginia primary? Isn't this racism? Or Bill's statement that Obama won South Carolina because he's a black man.

When Hillary's nomination was almost inevitable and everybody was gearing up for her eventual coronation to become the Democratic nominee, nobody was shouting "racism and sexism." I am an African based here in the U.S. and I am extremely disappointed by Whites, Latinos and Blacks who want to inject race into this contest.

I understand African Americans have been voting for White presidents from time immemorial. Why don't they demonstrate magnanimity and vote is Senator Barak Obama as a sign of gratitude? Senator Obama has many good qualities, which is what has him to come this far. Personally, I can't believe somebody with a funny name like him could have come this far in this racially-polarized country.

Hillary and her supporters should stop whining. Hillary is still in the race because she can't bring herself to terms with the fact that a black man could have floored her. She and her white supremacists don't seem to believe in the equality of human beings. They belong to the James Watson species.

kathy   May 30th, 2008 11:38 am ET

I am a woman and while some comments about Hillary may have been politically incorrect, I truly believe she is losing because she ran a terrible campaigne. She did not plan for the long haul and has been extremely negative and caused her supporters to not just want her to win, but want OBAMA destroyed so he could never run again. She felt she was entitiled to the presidency and how dare anyone, let alone a onetime senator with no name recognition, contacts or money. Oops! She not only mispeaks, she miscalculated. OBAMA has run fair and square. He has run a great campaigne and has a great message for our country.

OBAMA 08 YES WE CAN! CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN!

Rob, do you realize how hypocritical your statements are here?
You said "Here come all the hatefull obamaphiles to call her a bunch of names. So typical. But what should I expect from a bunch of kids."
Then you turn around and say this "No way I vote for this clown or his politics of division"
Do you even read what you write on here? This is the problem MANY Americans have with Hillary and her supporters. They say one thing like, it's clear michigan won't count for anything, then they whine that it's not being counted.
They also say they lead in the popular vote but ONLY if you DON'T COUNT (DISINFRANCHISE) the caucus states AND if you give Obama ZERO votes from Michigan. Then out of the other side of their mouths they whine about DISINFRANCHISING FL and MI.
GAME OVER!

Why can't she just get over the fact that her "holy" candidate will just not be the nominee. I have yet to see an instance when the Obama campaing has advidly said in public anything that would hint at the play of the "race card". The fact is that, even if you don't believe it, that Sen. "i'm So Better than the Frontrunner" Clinton has in some degree played that race card that you have so far screamed and yelled and kicked about. Get over your failed attempts and move on with your sorry pathetic life. Find something else to rant about.

I am not a Reagan Democrat, but I find the racism and hatemongering emanating from Obama supporters to be fightening. The comments by Wright and, now, Pfleger are sexist and racist and reflect a one-sided backward looking view of America. While I support Obama and hope he gets elected, I am very concerned about the backlash of all of the sexist and racist statements coming from Democrats. Obama supporters are swift-boating Obama. This is not the high road we should be taking, and this is not the politics of hope Obama himself speaks about.

Obama's past will keep coming back to hunt him. Obama was a "community organizer" and gave a speech in 2002. "Community organizer" means far left activism, is the code words that the Marxists use.
Obama's campaign shows clearly all kinds of dirty tricks (worse than the "old politics".) From bringin race to extremist far left positions in policy and economics. In one word. frightening an Ferraro says.
Look at the heatred shown by his supporters that imply inmaturity and fanatism.
Obama's advantage in delegates result not from popular votes but from caucuses that grant 8 delegates for every 10,000 votes while the primary popular votes grant 1 delegate for every 10,000 votes. This is outrageous and make Obama an illegitimate candidate.

George   May 30th, 2008 11:38 am ET

I dont want to be rude here about what you are saying and what Clintons say how Clintons attacked Obama comparing him with Jessy jacksson. no more division please. Clinton is not a front runner and how she can claim that she is a better candidate? if she is a better choice, why she is not a front runner. The person who is far behind almost 200 delegates is saying that she should get the nomination. What is this? what is the intention of such a claim? The hidden meaning is Obama has no right to get the nomination. Am I right Madam Ferraro?

I've seen Hillary play the "woman" card, repeatedly. I haven't seen Obama focus on race. He made an elegant speech about it, and it appealed to both sides of the issue. That that was. He is running on fixing this country, and not on making history.

I think she's confused, Hillary is running on nothing other than being the first woman President, oh and some healthcare idea she came up with 14 years ago thrown in to appear innovative. Most Americans appear to see through this. We need more than just a President who is fulfilling their personal niche in history. We need one that will help us not go down in history as the next Rome.

This election is far too important to leave to people primarily interested in their own legacy.

More whining from the Clinton campaign. Not once have I heard Obama say "vote for me because I'm an African American."

On the other hand Clinton has spent the last part of the campaign cycle essentially saying "Vote for me cause I'm a woman and the nasty boys are picking on me, as opposed to the first part of the cycle where they spent much of their time trying to paint Obama as an "affirmative action" candidate.

What I like about Obama has nothing to do with his race and everything to do with his ability to lead.

Everything I dislike about Clinton has nothing to do with her gender and everything to do with her character.

To me Hillary has run a disgraceful campaign and I don't trust her, and has been throwing a hissy-fit over losing the nomination. She knew the rules of the primaries before starting, and by the rules of the primaries she has lost. She'll never beat Obama in delegates. For her to be in denial is now making her look more like Bush than anything. She's had her chance, and to continue on is selfish. She cannot mathematically win the nomination. Well now you know how Blacks have been feeling for years. What President in recent memory has been able to, or who even cared to, address the Black Community and their concerns? That is why many of us don't come out and vote. Now it is a group of so called Reagan democrates who "feel" they are getting the short end of the stick. They are scared of what a Black man in power will mean to them....well do what we have done for years......protest and get over it.

When Obama said, IT'S OUR TIME, HE WAS BEING A RACIST. but it's funny the media and his SUPPORTERS/FOLLOWERS, don't see it that way. He's a racist and it's OK because he's black, and still going to the CHURCH WHICH ISN'T SUPPOSE TO BE POLITICAL, ARE THEY GOING TO LOSE THEIR EXEMPT STATUS???? They should, this wasn't the first time that they became political. And what is really disappointing is that THEY LAUGHED, they think being racist is OK as long as it's them and not WHITEY. give me a break. Obama's people have made race an issue all along and kept pointing to other people. I'm an independant and I want experience, Clinton or McCain. Prefer Clinton, but McCain isn't a BUSH, Obama's words of CHANGE are just how Bush got elected in 2000 when we trusted his words of CHANGE and you can see where that got our country. I don't trust WORDS, I trust experience. Lack of is another things Obama and Bush have in common.

Geraldine Ferraro is sick. Senator has never played the "race card". This was introduced by Bill Clinton. Also he has never play the "sex card".

Clinton lost the nomination because she ran a terrible campaign with no plan post-Super Tuesday.

Also, believe it or not, there are people who don't think she is the best candidate.

Shocking, I know.

Hillary is divisive to America...........

Smarter than the rest   May 30th, 2008 11:36 am ET

CNN Here is my input as to how Obama will win -

I'm convinced that Obama can win this election if he is smart. Here is what he needs to do -

Get this Ferraro woman on his SIDE, not his team but his SIDE and have her help to show he's not sexist.....

Make another speech about the greater good of the party inviting Hillary to make the pitch also. This will send a strong signal that they are not hating but fiercely competing. He has to be the initiator though to get credibility and buy in from Hillary's supporters.

Address the FL and MI issue that he wasn't the one who decided... ASk them if he wasn't leading would the push be the same by his opponent? Ask them also, why should he try to give his lead away through no fault of his? He should be clear in saying and convincing others that if they look back at his campains the would realize that he would have been vigorously campaining in both states and the outcome would have / could have been much different....

Make it clear that he can't make the decision to please all in the FL and MI issue, but thinks the 50% split is a reasonable deal......

Should let America realize that he paid is price for the first pastor problem and shouldn't be paying again for another....

Vy, California   May 30th, 2008 11:36 am ET

NOT AS FRIGHTING AS WE FIND YOU, GERALDINE.

we do not find Obama's campaign frighting, Geraldine, is this the new angle you and Clinton have come up with?

What we find frightening is a bunch of people we trusted and respected turning out to be bottom of the barrel folks. Stop trying to tear the party apart and support our apparent nominee. STOP trying to steal the election!!! this is a democracy, and the people have spoken, sore losers.

you and the Clintons, go away and don't rear your ugly heads up ever again!! I shouder to think you were almost VP and Clinton almost President!! GOD NO!! GOD DOES REALLY BLESS AMERICA!!

Nick   May 30th, 2008 11:36 am ET

This is true.
Obamas candidacy is a product of insane media campaign by so called "journalists" (Russert, Mathieu's, Olberman, Borger, ..)
I don't know their motivation, but i they lost their journalistic credibility, and the viewers are getting more and more frustrated with their comments.
CNN you don't need Gloria Borger or Roland Martin. They are bias.

It might also be that some of us are neither racist nor sexist, but think that Obama is simply the better candidate and don't like Hilary.

A SHOCKING CONCEPT

3rd wave feminist   May 30th, 2008 11:35 am ET

I'm a third-wave feminist and Ferraro does not speak for me. She represents the feminism of the past. A feminism that promotes tokenism as if getting women into office is going to advance equality. A feminism that questions my identity as a feminist because I am not supporting Hillary and "I should be" because I'm a woman. Ferraro's words are quite unfeminist to me!

One last thing, yes the media (and turns out American culture) is sexist. How come this wasn't central to Hillary's campaign from the beginning? That would have been a moment of empowerment as opposed to this last ditch campaign effort that appeals to martyrdom/victimhood.

Obama/Sebelius '08

CNN never posts my comments.

soy   May 30th, 2008 11:35 am ET

this lady is seriously sick in the head. How has Obama played the race card in this election? He's made a conscious effort not to do that including not dividing voters into black, white, hispanic, asian, old, young, blue collar, educated, wealthy, etc. He's tried to be inclusive in his campaign but the same can't be said about the Clinton campaign. She's rode on the back of racism, sexism and all other isms out there. Obama at no point throughout this election fueled all of these sentiment but the same can't be said of Clinton. She continues to alienate voters along all kinds of lines including race, sex, socio-economic status, even size of state they reside in. People can do any analysis of both campaigns throughout and you'll find that the Clinton campaign resorted to all kinds of dirty politics to win this but it didn't work and so they're placing the blame on everything else except themselves. Ferraro should go away and stop fueling all kinds of divisions that only exists in her eyes

Reagan dems and Ron Paul supporters are scared to death for Obama and his campaign.

Why do you ask? We will become closer to the government of the USSR under Obama than we would as a free America.

That is what scares us.

The bigger a federal government is, the more control it has over you and your life, and that IS AN AWFUL THING TO HAVE.

Why many of you can't understand this is simply beyond me.

Scott Hughes ATL   May 30th, 2008 11:35 am ET

Your comment is awaiting moderation.
If you hate Obama, then you will probably always hate Obama, but guess what… Everyone is not crazy or a traitor, hypnotized, etc… You have to ask yourself why people from all walks of life seem attracted to Obama's message and style.

Most of these people from all walks of life, seem to be leaving other constituencies to come to support Obama.

And those that seem opposed seem to be, just "seem" to be the same ole type of people that are running this country into the ground. They refuse to accept change. They can't understand why people are so dissatisfied with our government not working for them. They seem to think that breaking from the norm is a bad thing. Or they want to return to 1990. My mom used to say, "You can have everything you want in life… EXCEPT the way it used to be…"

These same people are seeing a major decline in their own standard of living but because of some deep seeded hatred, or flawed tradition, can't seem to step into 2008.

Well I guess they have every right to live in the past, when things were good for just a few… But they do not have a right to hold the rest of us in that past. Nor do they have the right to be angry with us for wanting a policy shift in government to the inclusive, rather than the exclusive… So stop with the made-up excuses as to why you hate him and just say you don't like him. (But don't insult the rest of us by saying it's for a substantive reason...)

My sadness comes when I think about whether Obama does a great job as president or not, those intrenched boneheads will do their best to bring him down every single day of his administration.

I pray for his stamina in the White House… (Obama, quit smoking… You'll need the energy…

It's amazing that Geraldine Ferraro would choose to interprete 'Our Time Has Come,' apparently spoken by Barack Obama after his win in No. Carolina as referring to blacks. I interprete it as him referring to Democrats' time has come. Amazing that her spin and take on that has a racial connotation. I really feel sorry for her. She appears to be extremely bitter!

John Philadelphia,PA   May 30th, 2008 11:35 am ET

Geraldine Ferraro is a loser. 1st Obama wasn't a godd canidate because he was black, now he isn't a good canidate because he is a man?

Clinton ran a poor campagin, period. She had this election in the bag. Money, a name , powerful contacts. She did not treat Obama as a threat, she thought he was just a stepping stone. Ferraro please go back under whatever rock you find stay there if you have drinks Hiliary will come with you.

Ferraro was on Clinton campaign’s finance committee over 20mil in debt- for a fighter she sure complains alot.

If Obama had no chance to win would he continue his race – doubt it DNC would not have it. There are plenty of women that would have ran a better campagin this Mrs. Clinton and finished the election she did not. If your are with the DNC lets ride the wave to the whitehouse. If not just continue your tacticsand welcome MCcain to the whitehouse. Thanks

VirginiaVoter   May 30th, 2008 11:35 am ET

Peg   May 30th, 2008 11:35 am ET

Being an older, white register nurse, working in a male dominated health field (with mostly male egocentric Doctors), I can understand how women feel regarding sexism and gender bias. I personally feel, Geraldine Ferraro is engaged in racism.

However, this is ridiculous! Hillary is actually playing the "victim" card here and clearly shows her as NOT a true leader. Would Ghandi or Buto do such a thing? Ofcourse NOT! Hillary has lost the campaign because of Hillary not because of sexism. Is Obama winning because of racism? Of course NOT! It's time to get over it, and understand our responsibility, as Democrats, is to vote Democratic in the fall, regardless of our own personal feelings! We need a Democrat in the White House....so please stop saying you will vote for McCain or not vote at all....if you truly care what happens to this country (and party), you will "hold your nose" and vote for the Democratic candidate in the fall.

SingleMother   May 30th, 2008 11:35 am ET

Not to be disrespectful to G. Ferraro... Can someone explain to me why what she says about anything should be important enough to be in print on CNN? Who is she anyway?

Allan   May 30th, 2008 11:35 am ET

And when they finish that study, they should also analyze the results of the 1984 election to see how much sexism played a role in that election. I bet the results would show that sexism was FAR more prevalent in 1984 than in 2008, but that wouldn't support Ms. Ferraro's argument, now would it?

The outcome will be just as relevant to the fact that Barack Obama won the nomination in 2008 by having the best plan for winning pledged delegates while Hillary Clinton failed to ride her immense name recognition and husband's coat-tails to victory.

An interesting poll recently delved deeper into why some whites are more comfortable with Obama than others. The result showed that whites who have what the pollster described as a high "racial resentment" score supported Clinton, while those whites who do not share this attitude preferred Obama.

In other words, white people don't prefer Clinton to Obama: only white people who resent the gains that black people have fought for and won do.

MG   May 30th, 2008 11:34 am ET

Apparently all the white candidates (for whom black people have always voted)for the last 200+ years have fully understood and empathized with the problems and issues of the black community.

I swear white people think Obama's goal is to enslave the white race.

Hey old lady, it is you and Bill Clinton who started the race card to frighten white voters. History will judge both of you. Ferraro, you are just bitter old lady with much to do. If you have time to waste, do some good with it by volunteering...there are many good things you can do with your time than dividing the party. Shame on you, for continuously trying to divide democrats with your venom message. Regardless of whatever you propagate, the will of the people will prevail and you will just end up as a racist bitter old lady and footnote when the history of this election is written.

Marlo (Houston, Texas)   May 30th, 2008 11:34 am ET

Everytime she says something, it gets more ridiculous. Please stop reporting on people that have clearly lost all sense of sanity. The Clinton campaign and her supporters are trying to start fires that really are not going anywhere, except to continue to divide the Democractic Party. Clearly they care nothing about the party as a whole, and should definitely start their own party, because these people are really starting to get to the point of hopelessness.

Jerry Lee   May 30th, 2008 11:34 am ET

The Democratic party IS divided because of people like Ferraro and continues to be divided because she continues these comments....Lets get real, a black man named Obama wouldn't be where he is if he wasn't black. ?????
Tell that to all the people of Kentycky and West Virginia who voted against him because he is black.

First it was "if you can't stand the heat"....now it's "poor me I'm being picked on".

Clinton knew the rules and was too arrogant to think she had to follow all of them as she continues to attempt to change them. Funny how women see this exactly opposite the way it is.

This parasite just won't go away. She's apparently very bitter, very angry and frustrated. If anyone is fueling any ideas about race and sex it's absolutely her. She probably feels cheated and entitled like Hillary. Instead of accepting that people are voting based on the issues, she wants to drag our society back into "only race/sex matters." She is the reason this country could never escape the iron grip of these two issues. What a shame. What a waste. It was neither race nor sex that put this country in the sad state we are in now.

MARCE   May 30th, 2008 11:32 am ET

How come the only WOMEN that count are Hillary supporters? How about the rest of us women that are educated and feminist that can truly stand behind someone that isn't a woman. There are many many women out there that don't support Hillary because we don't identify with her, we don't prefer her, and we don't want her.

I just hate that the WOMEN are categorized as Hillary supporters and we are somehow being unrepresented if Obama gets elected. It is just ridiculous. And just as a side note, I am not a fan of Ferraro as well. These bickering women that nag and complain do nothing to promote women's issues or the fierceness and strength that we do have. I am not a Republican, but Elizabeth Dole is an amazing leader as well as other women like Maria Shiver, Caroline Kennedy, as well Nancy Pelosi. Though I don't agree with all of there politics I agree with there character and there attitudes, something I can't say about Clinton or Ferraro.

Debby   May 30th, 2008 11:32 am ET

Oh she is so full of it. I have been posting on these blogs since this Dem. nomination started and I am not an Obama supporter nor do I feel I can't comment on Obama's judgement without being called a racist. People are getting over the top now with ones skin color. I can't believe we wouldn't look at a nominee's knowledge and what they can bring to the Am. people vs. what race they are.

Oh sure Ferraro, keep fueling the fire and join the clintons whining team.

Obama has been the most honest candidate and that is a fact.

The clintons have made foools out of themself and are the only ones to blame.
Never mind McCain and all the clinton slogans for november, anyone can beat McSame – that is not a problem at all for Obama.

I hope Obama will be the presidential candidate by June 4.

Ms. Ferraro, don't get your panties all up in a bunch. Stop reliving your defeat in 1984 and move on! Your bitterness is not helping the democrats win the presidency!

Finally she has awakened after all these years–and is now suddenly speaking like a conservative.

Too late Ms. F. the socialist liberal revolution sought for so long is on it's way–with a untested, weak, and dubious leader waving the banner of socialism–marching in front of the crowd.

Good thing–Independant voters have grown immensely, as well as, the Libertarian Party. There may still be hope. But it won't be found within the Democratic party–even key leaders are falling behind the socialist banner–as long as their own financial situtations aren't affected–they don't care.

Kris In Atlanta   May 30th, 2008 11:31 am ET

What is with this individual? She seems to be the only one playing the race card-along with Hillary. Obama had made racial unity his theme from day one and I don't ever recall that notion touted by Ferraro. And sexism is not an issue-was it an issue when Hillary had double digit leads in the polls, and was regarded as the early winner? The only thing that has caused a division in the Democratic Party is Hillary undermining the party for her selfish reasons, and Ferraro attempting to do the same. Both of them are doing everything they can to help McCain but it will not work. Hillary's supporters wil come to realize that their lot is best cast with Obama, who will end the Iraq mess, protect a woman's right to choose, and appoint judges to the bench who will stand up for Americans' liberty. And as for Ferraro, this is 2008 not 1984 and we are moving on without you.

Geraldine Ferraro is not operating with a full deck. I am also a woman and do not believe Clinton has been treated unfairly or otherwise just because she happens to be a woman. She is reaping what she has sown, nothing more nothing less.
Geraldine also cannot blame Obama for how Hillary has been portrayed in the media either. He himself has not stooped to her campaign's tactics and he has only been gracious without ever playing the tit for tat game.
He congratulates and compliments her in his speeches while she has consistently done the opposite. She continuously claims he can't beat McCain when the polls show otherwise, and once her campaign ends I think we'll see an outpouring of additional support for Obama from her less fanatical supporters who wouldn't stoop so low as to vote McCain into office from sheer vindictiveness.

Jackie   May 30th, 2008 11:31 am ET

Frankly I don't get these accusations. I haven't seen the race card or sexism being played over and over again by the Obama campaign. I think what has happened here is this was to be the "year of the woman" and here comes Obama snatching out from under her. HRC wasn't the right woman for the job so it is time to move on and start gearing up for the general election. We have some very serious problems and we need to focus on them.

I am white "Reagan Democrat" and I think Ferraro needs to shut her mouth. The only decisiveness is coming from the Clinton Camp. She doesn't care about the party, she cares only about herself. It's pathetic.

How is anything that has happened sexist to Clinton? It makes zero sense to me how they claim sexism. It's just the Clinton's last desperate attempt to sway people since she doesn't care about anything other than winning the candidacy.

bernj   May 30th, 2008 11:31 am ET

I suspect she is correct in concluding that some whites are afraid of Obama. That said, such fear is irrational and racist in and of itself. As for the sexism charge...well.....same old same old. It is Hillary herself, (helped in large part by Bill) not her gender, that the majority of Democrats, reformed Republicans and thinking independents have rejected. It is time for us to move past old fears and embrace a new America. President Obama is our best hope for the future.

Ms. Ferraro has become so amazingly delusional that she is willing to scorch the earth and burn every democratic bridge she can lay waste to. how can she claim Obama is any worse than she was to be added to the ticket as a token choice?

She represented nothing when she was selected, absolutely nothing. Hillary, Pelosi, and countless other strong willed woman are the real soldiers fighting on the ground. Ferraro sits on her soapbox hurt and bitter that she made racist comments and now is painting everyone as the vitcim who doesnt support Obama.

I don't think race or sex has played as big a role as the media claims. Sexism does defiantly exist..... as do the results from kentucky were 1 out of 5 people openly admitted that Race was the reason why they voted for Obama.

Let me ask you Geraldine.... if 1-5 people admitted they were racist, wouldn't you find that to be an issue?

Shannon   May 30th, 2008 11:30 am ET

These accusations by Ferraro are unfortunate and baseless. Ferraro is a setback to the feminist movement. Clinton lost this campaign because she put together a horrible team, had high turnover at top levels, had no financial management (of which Ferraro was directly responsible), and no strategy post February 5. Part of being a feminist is being recognized on the same merits as men. In this case as stated before, she has performed less well and thus lost.

As a woman, I am highly offended by Ferraro's comments concerning Hillary Clinton. Hillary lost the campaign by not properly planning for the long haul and divisive dirty tactics. If she is the best canindate for the job, why is it estimated that she has over 30 million dollars in campaign debt?

Why fund a study to research the role of sexism in the campaign? Why not donate the money to help Hillary before she has to ask loan herself additional funds?

Geraldine Ferraro was once a big reason I became a Democrat. I remember as a 9-year-old in 1984 thinking that it was wonderful that Democrats would nominate a woman as their Vice Presidential candidate. Nowhere in the news had I seen women politicians at the time, and it was exciting to see someone practicing the equality that they preached.

Now, she is symptomatic of the reason why it is hard for me to call myself a Democrat. Hillary Clinton lost because she ran a bad campaign. She lost because she ran a negative, divisive campaign. She lost because she received fewer votes. Now that she has lost, blaming the rest of the world for the failure of her candidate's campaign and pushing further the division in the party is disgusting. It makes me glad she was not successful in her VP campaign, and makes me hope I never have to hear self-serving divisive vitriol out of another one of my party's "leaders" ever again. If I do, it will probably cease being my party.

Puerto Rican in Swing State   May 30th, 2008 11:30 am ET

More than frightened, I am worried and saddened by the way Obama supporters have downplayed and humiliated the efforts made by the Clintons regarding the Puerto Rico primary. While residents of the island are not allowed to vote in the "general," there is a very well structured Democratic Party within the island. Obama himself has gone down there to collect money. After all, this is a DEMOCRATIC primary, right? So, why is it so appalling to the Obama supporters about the fact that Puerto Ricans would have a say in the matter? They sure didn't object when the Guam primary was taking place! And I don't see Obama returning contributions from Puerto Rican donors anytime soon! Moreover, Puerto Ricans living in the mainland (like myself) ARE allowed to vote in the "general." That makes about 3.5 million votes. That includes about 800,000 in certain swing state named FLORIDA. Other important communities are located in key states such as Ohio (Lorain County/Cleveland) and Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, Lancaster, York). I thought the Obama supporters could eventually bring all components of the Democratic Party on board. The disrespect towards Puerto Rican voters tells me otherwise...

Kaci   May 30th, 2008 11:30 am ET

No, it's you, Ferraro, driving all the racism and sexism. How is Obama playing the race card? He is as white at you if you quit looking at his skin color? The problem is all along you and your ilk have been trying to marginalize Obama as the "black candidate" and he's transcended that. the split in the party has been caused by you, bill clinton, vernon jordan, bob johnson, hillary clinton, harold ickes, wolfson, etc, etc, etc. i'm a woman, and i'm at the hrc campaign wanting to blame everything on sexism. she felt she was "entitled" to the nomination and when the american people said otherwise and she realized she wasn't going to be crowned the nominee, she starts whining. ferraro is irrelevant, so please go away.

Rick in Florida   May 30th, 2008 11:28 am ET

For all of you who think this will end in June....FORGET IT. Hillary's stated position is that "SuperDelegates and even PledgedDelegates can SWITCH their votes ANY TIME".

This means that she WON'T QUIT, and will lobby, cajole, campaign, even bribe if necessary, and WAIT until the FLOOR VOTE at the Convention, before she finally accepts the end. NO MATTER that there will only be 2 months to unify...NO MATTER that Obama will be fatally damaged....NO MATTER that the Party will be in chaos...

She hopes he will lose in November so she can try again in 2012, hoping the Party will have forgiven and forgotten....so everyone....be ready for a LONG HOT TERRIBLE SUMMER OF HILLARY, and the flawed logic espoused by people like Ferraro...who are pathetic.

Ms. Ferraro makes some very valid points. The news media failed us during the Bush administration, and they've failed us miserably during this democratic nomination process. Not only because of what they've neglected but also because of how they've slanted stories on which they have reported. If there's a real loser in this campaign, in addition to the American people as a whole, it's the media. I think it's time for our free press, which we've deemed sacred, to come under new scrutiny.

Mitch   May 30th, 2008 11:28 am ET

john/Montana   May 30th, 2008 11:28 am ET

Wow! This is unbelievable. Its clear to me that Ms. Ferraro and so many others like her are more about entitlement than what is good for the party and the country. In their self absortion, they ignore what is really at stake in November: Supreme court justices, Americas standing in the world, our civil liberties.

The hard reality is that Obama ran a better campaign and deserves the nomination.

ARE YOU TRYING TO BE FAMOUS EVEN IF IT MEANS MAKING A FOOL OF YOURSELF?

Army Veteran Against McCain   May 30th, 2008 11:28 am ET

Reasons why Veterans, active duty personell, and anyone who cares about them should not vote for McCain:

*AWOL for May 22nd vote on GI Bill. Expressed opposition to bill saying "it was too generous to Veterans".

*Voted against Bill in September that would have mandated adequate rest for troops between combat deployments.

*Voted No on $1.5-billion increase for Veteran Medical services (money would have come from closing corporate tax loophole).

*Voted No on establishing a trust fund to bolster underfunded Veteran Hospitals.

*Voted No in May 2006 against $20-billion allotment for expanding Veteran Medical Facilities.

*Voted No in April 2006 to increase Veteran Outpatient care.

*Voted No in March 2004 another $1.8-billion reserve for Veteran Medical care (again funded by closing corporate tax loopholes).

Bottomline, McCain is more interested in taking care of big business then the men and women he wrongly sent to fight in Iraq.

Billy   May 30th, 2008 11:28 am ET

52% of the US are women. If "half of the women" wanted Hillary Clinton, theres not a thing any other group, be it blacks, white males or hispanics, could say about it. The truth is the majority of women in the US DO NOT WANT Hillary Clinton, its as simple and as mathematical as that. How sexism gets thrown around..I dunno.

Our time has come...ummm how about Obama was referring to the Democrats and not this trumped up racial division you are playing on ... Ms. Ford.

TXMomof2   May 30th, 2008 11:28 am ET

This woman is preposterous. This remark is even more ridiculous than her claim that Obama is having an easy time of it because he's a black man. I laughed really hard about that one, because, yeah, we just hand out political offices to any black man who wants them. That's why we have so MANY black elected officials, right?

But I can't even laugh at this one, its so stupid. Obama is responsible for the racism and SEXISM in the campaign, give me a break. Was Obama the one who implied after the SC primary that he only won because he was black? And does Obama walk around and say "elect me because I am black?" No, but Hillary complains CONSTANTLY that she is mistreated because she is a woman. She cries when she needs sympathy votes so she looks more feminine. She has even started wearing PINK ALL OF THE TIME to emphasize her "womaness" (I don't think she EVER wore pink before this campaign). She repeatedly implies people should vote for her because she's a woman. I would love to see a woman as president, but not THAT woman. I am with Golda Meir on the issue of women succeeding. If you want to succeed, you forget you are a woman and make everyone else forget it too. You don't keep bringing it up and bringing it up, and then complain that people hold it against you.

Brian, NJ   May 30th, 2008 11:28 am ET

Wow...I mean wow...I'm a Republican and I think she's gone off the deep end. She's complaining about reverse racism, how about reverse sexism since the fembots in Hillary's campaign think any woman who does not support her is selling out her sex. Can anyone tell this woman to STOP, YOU ARE HELPING NO ONE AND MAKING YOURSELF LOOK LIKE A NUTJOB!!!

His tactics now, all floridians and michigans know they want to be heard. He doesn't want them to be heard or voiced – or seated. all americans ahave the right to be so heard.

So now he is losing primaries because he's black?

We know you are racist Ferraro, get over it.

Nic   May 30th, 2008 11:27 am ET

When has Obama played the race card in this campaign? Ferraro is ridiculous, and should no longer be granted a forum for her rants. They are without value.

Lucas   May 30th, 2008 11:27 am ET

Ferraro is a perfect example of the people who have been in Washington TOO LONG!!!!

The time is now... a changing of the guard. Our country has been run into the ground in the past 10 years.

Put your petty differences aside. We need real change NOW and it's not going to come from the same old candidate's, playing the same old politics!

OBAMA 08/12

Alex in TX   May 30th, 2008 11:27 am ET

There is a big difference between Obama "using the race card" and his supporters "using the race card."

fred2..since another stole my name   May 30th, 2008 11:27 am ET

what a disgrace this women is, lol can anyone stay 2 steps back for the womens movement because currently clinton and ferrara are making you all look real bad.

Like you dont know how to lose with grace, instead play the victim and whine whine whine. How sad and utterly PATHETIC.

I would love to see a women president in my time, however clinton has made me realize that maybe i dont.

Jake in Chicago   May 30th, 2008 11:27 am ET

First of all, there is no such thing as "reverse racism". Racism is racism no matter what race it is coming from or directed to.

Second of all, the Clinton's are the only ones playing the race card. This interview itself is playing the race card. Obama's campaign hasn't been doing it, but the Clinton's just keep repeating the lies that he has (just like they've been acting as if so many people are calling for her to drop out, when, in reality, very few people in the party have done so). The Clintons are just like the Bushes–they know if they repeat something enough times, people will believe it whether its true or not. That's what they are doing here, and its doing great harm to the party. Clinton's is in it for herself, not for us.

The "Reagan Democrats" time has gone. Its time for the party to return to its progressive roots, and its time for the Clinton's the centrist "third way", and anyone else who is just a republican in disguise to get out of the way.

Darth Vadik, CA   May 30th, 2008 11:26 am ET

Go away you crazy woman.
Have you have had enough already?
When you're in a hole, STOP DIGGING.

Ms B   May 30th, 2008 11:26 am ET

Please...she needs to retire and stop spreading hate.

Nicole in NE   May 30th, 2008 11:26 am ET

These comments are sad and divisive.

I understand that racism and sexism has been a part of this election and it is truly sad that we Americans as a whole are still so regressed.

My personal view is all about supporting the Democratic nominee. I want a better future for this country, for our children.....and my strongest belief is that John McCain cannot offer that under the same FAILED Bush policies.

Open your eyes America and take a deep breath. We need to embrace our differences and ONLY then, can we progress as a nation!

Timothy   May 30th, 2008 11:26 am ET

What is the point of this article? Blitzer, you really should focus on more news worthy events like the fact that 133 American military committed suicide last year as a result of this STUPID war. I am so tired of all these hollow news stories that continue to come out to try to turn public opinion on a candidate. This is just sad. Why don't you try giving us something that actually matters.

mazola   May 30th, 2008 11:26 am ET

This woman is just stupid and crazy. She started this whole racial crap and now look at what she is publishing out there. She needs a husband...She is is sick !!!!!

HILLARY 2018....

Ferraro   May 30th, 2008 11:26 am ET

Wow CNN!!! This is the best news you can give??? Please stop posting news based on this "old bat"!!!!!!!

Milo   May 30th, 2008 11:26 am ET

It's really sad to see one of the old dem VP candidates turn into a dem-in-name-only. Shameful. This gender baiting is as bad as any of the earlier race baiting.

Enlightened Voter   May 30th, 2008 11:26 am ET

Hillary is the one that bought race into this campaign with her "...uneducated, white, voters...." remark. Geraldine, you are part of what is wrong with this country. Hillary is losing not because of sexism, but her campaign is in debt, she ran it poorly, people don't like her divisive, negativity. PERIOD!

The Truth   May 30th, 2008 11:26 am ET

What is the crypt keeper doing out.....why hasn't this woman been institutionalized yet......GO AWAY YOU BIGOT......

This is America 2008...Not Nazi Germany 1939.....

OBAMA: THE NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!!!!!

Ralph   May 30th, 2008 11:26 am ET

You got that right and before its over most of the people will see that Obama is scary!!

There is no way that man will ever get to the White House!!

NEVEREVER OBAMA   May 30th, 2008 11:26 am ET

VERY TRUE – THIS IS PARTLY WHY I WILL NOT VOTE FOR HIM IN THE FALL. OBAMA'S CAMPAIGN SPUN THIS AND AND MADE HIM COME OUT LOOKING ANGELIC. I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL MORE TRASH COMES OUT ON OBAMA. YESTERDAY CNN AIRED HOW OBAMA WAS ELECTED SENATOR. HE PROMOTES HIMSELF TO BE THE PERSON OF CHANGE WHEN INDEED HE IS LOW AND DIRTY LIKE THE REST OF THE POLITICIANS. I HAVE NEVER LOOKED FORWARD SO MUCH IN ALL MY YEARS TO CAST A VOTE FOR A REPLICAN THIS YEAR.

GO MCCAIN!

Proud1of 26% in WV   May 30th, 2008 11:26 am ET

Is this not the old broad that Clinton fired for saying Obama wouldn't be where he was if he had been white?People think that Hillary should win just because that she is a woman.

Latha   May 30th, 2008 11:25 am ET

Will you and Hillary both just SHUT UP.

Women for Obama '08

Phil From VA   May 30th, 2008 11:25 am ET

She got to be the VP candidate because of using her gender card. She is the most divisive figure who won't shut up. Please, your time is up. Go back to the hole.

Allen, Lubbock, TX   May 30th, 2008 11:25 am ET

This is why she is not taken serious about wanting to heal the rift in the party. she continues to pick at the wound. She is saying that Obama is playing the race card when people don't support him, then she turnes around and justifies HRC's lost to sexism...ironic? She is condeming him for using something divisive "to win" while she simultanously does the same thing!

When Obama said our time is now in Iowa, and all the other states that did not have a large black population...i guess he was still refering to black people time are now. this argument is so ridiculous and she is only further damaging herself, her rep, and her party. What a shame!

SLIMSISTA   May 30th, 2008 11:25 am ET

GERALDINE....PLEASE.....IT'S TOO LATE FOR YOUR RHETORIC....HILLARY CAME OUT HER MOUTH AND I HEARD HER...SHE GETS ALL THE WHITE VOTE....

PLEASE GO AWAY AND TAKE YOUR GIRL HILLARY WITH YOU!!!!!

Dan   May 30th, 2008 11:25 am ET

Why is the race card being played all of a sudden? Could this be because CNN has made him the victor already? I am positive there is more to find out about Obama. It all comes out in the end and McCain will win this if Hillary is not the nominee! I just hope it is not to late for Democrats to have a true experienced leader?

Justme WV   May 30th, 2008 11:25 am ET

This ole bag of wind is getting very tiresome with these accusations of "reverse racism" – geez, how does she even get attention?

cheri   May 30th, 2008 11:25 am ET

Please.......

Ostriches burying our heads in the sand   May 30th, 2008 11:25 am ET

Gerry Ferraro seems to be suffering from a bad bout of 'foot in mouth' disease.....someone please give her the meds!

Ohio Observer   May 30th, 2008 11:25 am ET

*yawns* Yeah OK, that is why Kentucky and West Virginia's voted so heavily against Obama, reverse racism. Bitter Lady please go away and take the Clintons’ with you!

Obama v McCain   May 30th, 2008 11:25 am ET

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!why is this loser still flapping her jaws? who is she speaking for?herself?

ben   May 30th, 2008 11:25 am ET

What a crazy lady. Obama has never played the race card; the only time race is mentioned is when Hillary supporters claim that Obama is using it to try and rile each other up.

And I'd like to hear a single example of how Obama has been sexist in this campaign. The fact is, he hasn't been.

Hillary and her supporters, rather than grasping at straws and excuses, need to accept the fact that she has lost the nomination, and lost it because of her own failures.

Steve, Chelsea, MI   May 30th, 2008 11:25 am ET

Reagan Dems didn't like you either.

Dustin   May 30th, 2008 11:25 am ET

Though her opinions are unpopular, I respect her for sharing them. She has valid points of concern in November, I just think her tone turns people off. (and I do not feel that she is racist in the least...but extremely frustrated)

Rob - WA   May 30th, 2008 11:24 am ET

OMG – Turkey necks unite!!! Ferraro you make me ill!!!!

tigerakabj   May 30th, 2008 11:24 am ET

Ok you old bad you need to get lost. Man this has become a circus with Clinton the ring leader. Obama has moved on to the general election and these idiots are still making noise.

Thank you Obama for giving me and America an alternative. These are the type of people that would have run the country another 8 years if it wasn't for you.

Clinton, I guess the Peter Paul v. Clinton case is breathing down your back.

Ty   May 30th, 2008 11:24 am ET

She really doesnt wanna see an Obama presidency does she!! Does she want a democrat in the WH? Maybe as long as it is not Obama – a black man.

JB   May 30th, 2008 11:24 am ET

Wow, what a bitter old hag...keep talking Geralding! You're making Hillary look soooo good!

Go Obama!

Taylor   May 30th, 2008 11:24 am ET

Lady, shut up.

mama4obama   May 30th, 2008 11:24 am ET

Desperation at its finest. Go crawl under a rock F. You dont represent this working white woman or any other woman in my family.

Hillary lost to the better candidate. There is no shame in that. As a woman, I am offended by the suggestion that sexism played a role. I am equally offended by you suggesting that race has played a role in Obama winning. The fact of the matter is Obama represents everything that old politics does not.

OBAMA 08

Timothy   May 30th, 2008 11:24 am ET

I find your face frightening.

Douglas -- Rochester, MN   May 30th, 2008 11:24 am ET

Ms. Ferraro - don't take this personally but, you're an idiot. Please sit down and shut-up!!!!!!!!! You are just as divisive as Hillary.

FactCheck   May 30th, 2008 11:23 am ET

Yikes.... who let her out of the asylum?

DD, New York   May 30th, 2008 11:23 am ET

I kinda agree, Ms. Ferraro, thank you.

canuck   May 30th, 2008 11:23 am ET

Obama lost more votes for being black then Hillary lost for being a woman.

Tiffany   May 30th, 2008 11:23 am ET

OMG!!! This woman is crazy!!! The only one who continues to play the 'race card' is HER!!! You are making yourself and all women look ridiculous, PLEASE STOP!!!!

PAT FOR OBAMA   May 30th, 2008 11:23 am ET

ONE WORD, RACIST

Dandelion.   May 30th, 2008 11:23 am ET

I hate this woman almost as much as I hate Clinton! Hag doesn't know what she's talking about!

Danny in Pittsburgh   May 30th, 2008 11:23 am ET

So...Geraldine.

You want the Dems to WIN this thing or not?

If so, the STFU!

If not, then go be a republican, you bitter, misguided, vindictive crone.

William H. Richards IV, Millis, MA   May 30th, 2008 11:23 am ET

The Reagan Democrats will vote for McCain if Hillary is not the nominee and the election will be lost for the Democrats in November.

PAT FOR OBAMA   May 30th, 2008 11:22 am ET

GO ON VACATION , YOU DIVISIVE WOMAN

Rich   May 30th, 2008 11:22 am ET

Funny how she would say this when she was the one who brought up race in the first place. Is she taking her medication?

Rob   May 30th, 2008 11:22 am ET

Here come all the hatefull obamaphiles to call her a bunch of names. So typical. But what should I expect from a bunch of kids.

She is right. Obama's campaign has repeatedly used the race issue as a shield and as a sword. Its deplorable.

No way I vote for this clown or his politics of division.

PAT FOR OBAMA   May 30th, 2008 11:21 am ET

JUST SHUT UP ALREADY WOMAN. YOU ARE THE ONE PLAYING THE RACE CARD.

Rich   May 30th, 2008 11:21 am ET

Oh Lord, not her again!
