McCain admits mistake in using Petraeus picture for fundraising

A fundraising e-mail sent to McCain supporters Thursday.
A fundraising e-mail sent to McCain supporters Thursday.

MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin (CNN) - John McCain, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee for president, said he was wrong to use an image of Gen. David Petraeus in fundraising material, and it "will not happen again."

His admission came hours after the Barack Obama campaign criticized an e-mail showing McCain shaking hands with the general who has been commanding U.S forces in Iraq.

It was not the first time McCain had used the picture of himself with Petraeus; it appeared on the candidate's website for several days in April before being taken down.

McCain has been hammering Obama for days over the length of time been since the Democratic front-runner last visited Iraq, mentioning Friday it was "873 days."

"I have visited Iraq on many occasions because I think the most vital decision that any president of the United States can make has got to be about the security of this nation and the lives of the young Americans who are serving," McCain said in an e-mail to supporters sent Thursday afternoon.

Adm. Michael Mullen, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, recently took the unusual step of admonishing all members of the military to stay out of politics as the presidential campaign heats up.

Good God – is Obama going to whine and complain about everything McCain says or does for the next 5 or 6 months? It's gonna get old quick.

    Cost of War:
    4300+ dead soilders
hundreds of billions of dollars in debt
Price of oil at $128 dollars a barrel

McCain using General Petraeus in a campaign add to try and drum-up support for his pathetic campaign, the GOP, and a war that should have never been... PRICELESS!!!

  4. GO HILL!

Hey, CNN where's the story about Pflager??????
His 20 year relationship with BO? Where's the outrage over the comments about Hillary Clinton???? If Hillary's supporter had said these things about BO you would have crucified her. Pflager and BO have worked together and known each other for 20 years, Pflager donated to BO's pathetic IL campaign (as BO got all competition removed from the ballot by striking out everyone else's petition signatures) and BO got $100,000 in earmarks for Pflager???? WHERE"S THE COVERAGE??????????????????

Women need to stick together on this and make a clear statement about the mis-treatment of Hillary Clinton during this primary. My husband and I will be changing our registration from Dem to Independent. We will vote McCain in November. Mr. Lefty Liberal who has treated Hillary like you know what does NOT deserve the Presidency.

I also just love the pathetic way Anderson Cooper always remarks "This isn't really a big deal, is it?" About ANYTHING BO says or his supporters say. He also had the nerve to say last night that BO has only known Pflager for a couple years...try a couple DECADES Anderson!!!! Cooper is a flippin joke and loves BO. His blog is a joke and run by Meagan Dressler and Megan O'Toole from Canada...both stroke his ego everynight and obviously have the hots for him.

So much for the unifier. BO has destroyed the dems chances in November and split the party in less than a year. Congrats.

Obviously McCain missed his days making war.

Should he become the President, the American people can expect more wars and expansion of the wrong wars.

Moreover, McCain is trying to divert American attention with war topics from the deep domestic and ECONOMNIC problems; because as is the case with Bush, McCain has no visionary solutions to Americans problems.

War! war!! war!! McCain. Americans are tired of that.

    "SAUDI DEMOCRACY"
The rationale Bush always gives for the Iraq war is that we must "spread democracy" in the Middle East. But remember that Bush's best friend is the ruler of Saudi Arabia who is the autocratic ruler of that nation. There is no democracy is Saudia Arabia and nobody is talking about that.
Osama bin laden is from Saudi Arabia. Most of the terrorists that flew the planes into the twin towers in New York on 9/11 '01 were from Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia is the breeding ground for terrorists.

Spread democracy from Saudi Arabia and leave Iraq alone – Saddam is dead. Leave those folks alone.

    THINK HIGH OIL PRICE
And why won't the price of gas not be very high here in the U.S.?
Most of our oil come from the Arab world and if the Arab countries see America putting the oil bought from them into tanks, Humvees, and military trucks that are used to kill their fellow Arab people, don't you think they will restrict the amount of oil sold to America?
Do you think they are happy for their fellow brothers and sisters being killed in an endless Iraq war?
They may not say it but they don't want America putting their oil in war machines to kill and destroy them. Even Saudi Arabia is not happy.

So McCain vowing to continue the war is just STUPID!

McCain is going trip up constantly in the months ahead, his nose will be bruised and he'll no doubt break a leg, maybe a hip from his old age. His foot will be in his mouth so many times that he will turn to comic relief to support Iraq and the war.

Obama hypocrasy of the day. McCain must remove this photo and Clinton was blocked from Navy base. BUT......

I don't seem to remember Obama apologizing for campaigning on federal property in the capital building (reported here) when he appeared with the press for a photo-op. What elite audacity and entitlement from the Empty Ivy-league Suit.

Oh I forgot – Obama operates by his own rules. And as we have seen from the recent Chicago dirty politics expose', his only rule is "anything to win".
