From

(CNN) – Sen. John McCain, the Republican Party’s presumptive presidential nominee, targeted Sen. Barack Obama again Monday over the Illinois senator’s approach to Iran and the Middle East.

But a new poll released by Gallup Monday suggests McCain may be out of step with the majority of Americans when it comes to U.S.-Iranian relations. Fifty-nine percent of Americans surveyed thought it was a good idea for the President of the United States to meet with the President of Iran. When Iran is taken out of the equation, an even higher percentage – 67 percent – responded that they thought it would be a good idea for the president to meet with leaders of countries considered enemies of the United States.

Of the three remaining major presidential candidates, only Sen. Barack Obama has said he would meet personally with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and the leaders of other countries regarded as enemies of the United States by the Bush administration.

The Gallup survey was conducted May 19-21 and based on telephone interviews of 1,013 adults nationally. It has an overall margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points.

Anyone whop CLAIMS to be a Clinton surrporter and says now because they are COMPLETELY bitter that they will now vote for Mccain is a complete MORON!

Joseph Adewole   June 2nd, 2008 9:28 pm ET

John McCain still talks and behaves as if he is in the Barracks; Americans will be more save by talking to these so called enemies of America. Get them round you and find out what the problems are, then find a way forward; what matter most is security for ordinary American; if visiting these countries will make America safe, it is worth doing.
If Barack says he would meet and discuss with these so called enemies, definitely, Americans will be more safe under Obama.

McCain's blustery style of diplomacy looks worse than George W. Bush's. As responsible citizens, we should be careful not to buy into more sabre-rattling from politicians such as McCain. Obama has my vote in November.

Which proves that Obama is in touch with the American people, not old McSame.

shaorng58   June 2nd, 2008 9:15 pm ET

Barack Obama is the best thing to come along since JfK, in fact, he's like a black JFK (altho he's not really black) If you listen to JfK talking on tapes and then listen to Barack, even their inflection and that slight little stutter are very similair too. But what he makes him most like JFK is his intelligence, levelheadedness, foresight and honesty,
as well as his bravado (I may be skinny but I'm fierce"! ) and his charisma. The man exudes warmth and practically has a halo!
And by the way, (I researched this ) JFk only had 12 years of experience when elected. Half state and half U.S. senator. Barack
Obama has served 7 years as an Illinois senator and 3 as a U.S.
senator, only 2 years less than JFK, who was also 5 years younger than Barack Obama and was Catholic, which was still mocked a lot back in the 60s, I know because I was 11 years old and a Catholic!
AND HE WON AND SO WILL BARACK OBAMA, WITH OR WITHOUT HILLIARY'S SUPPORT!!!
Someone on here said Hilliary's supporters, who are saying they'll vote for McSame if she is not the nominee, are racists. This is true and I suspect they are also feminists and lesbians and men haters!
Not to mention ignorant! They want our sons to continue to get killed in Iraq, and the economy to get worse, and the rich to get richer and the poor to get poorer all because a woman didn't get the nod!!!! And they cry "sexist" but that is not the case. Hilliary didn't get the nod because she is a woman but because 58% of the country thinks she is untrustworthy and a liar! I am a white woman and I am supporting Barack Obama because he is trustworthy and honest, not because he is black or a man. And I sure hope he doesn't pick her as VP because when he wins the white house, he'll have to constantly watch his back for fear she'll put a knife in it so she can be president,
one way or another!

Obama doesn't have Ideas. He just responds to others' ideas. He has a good speaking voice (reminds me of John Kerry's) as long as he has a script. Without a script, as he would be if he debates McCain one on one, he just stammers around with a lot of "er" and "uh".

People fear Change.....

As a solider in the Military I like the fact that Obama would like to talk to our proposed enemies....before I have to do my job. That what we the military are here for....when you have exhausted ALL possibilities of a peaceful resolve You call on us to enforce it........NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND.

The United States is not the World Police......We need to establish a relationship with those that are a threat to the US.
Keep your friends close but your enemies closer....especially the ones with Nuclear capability.

McCain is trying to make it sound like Obama wants to go to dinner with Ahmadinejad!! I'm glad people are smart enough to know that Obama is only willing to have some sort of discussion with Iran without pitting the country in any kind of danger. It's not brain surgery......

Roberto   June 2nd, 2008 9:02 pm ET

WHen given a choice between a potential president who would use military action as the first and only choice, and a potential president who would use it only if absolutely necessary, most Americans are intelligent enough to vote for the latter. this is not the correct poll, how many people you asked ?

Clinton/McCain   June 2nd, 2008 8:52 pm ET

Gallup didn't ask the right question. They should have asked if people would want the president to talk to the president of Iran in the first year and I'm sure the answer overwhelmingly would have been NO. Remember, that's what Obama said he would do. That is, meet in the first year, without precondition. Big mistake.

Great news. Would be even better if Americans understood that the equivalent of the US president is not the Iranian president but the Supreme Leader. Most civilized countries in the Western World have split the singular leadership position typical of monarchies, dictatorships, and tyrannies (thus England has the PM and the King/Queen, Germany has the Chancellor and the President, etc.).

Rev. Benson,

I have to respectfully disagree. WHile obviously his decision to leave the parish responds to the fact that he is being held responsible for everything anyone says at his former Church, it is also true that he seemed to feel that his presence was disrupting the congregation unacceptably. I think his regret and his pragmatism speak volumes–far more than a simple kowtowing to some of the voters.

Suzie–if you think Obama is a media creation, then they must have been busy these past twenty years making him a constitutional lawyer/scholar, community activist, and legislator at the state and national level, co-authoring important reform legislation. Gee whiz, I had no idea that the media had such power, such foresight. Why don't you read a little and do a little research if you want to be taken seriously? Sheesh.

If we have leaders that say we might give something away in talking we did not intend to give during negoations then, they are not leaders, they are idiots. If a leader cannot control himself in talking and gives away things he did not intend to give, he is lacking common sense and more.

In the geopolitical marketplace, legitimacy is based on effectiveness, and must be proven in comparison with other superpowers. In fact, America can learn a lot about legitimacy from Europe and China. After the Cold War, some Americans argued that the diminished US military presence in Europe would lead to a renewal of internal European rivalry, such as between France and Germany.Instead, the European Union has become the one contemporary empire that continues to expand, year after year, by absorbing new countries, with many more in line begging to join.
Around the same time, the Pentagon declared its strategy to contain the rise of any great power rival ,such as China.Yet China is methodically pursuing its own timeline to become the world's paramount power, restoring its position as the 'Middle Kingdom'.Like the European Union,it is turning its neighbor states into semi-sovereign provinces, subduing them not militarily but rather through demographic expansion and economic integration. This used to be called imperialism; the new term for it is globalization.
The power of an Obama presidency is the understanding of that point.

Tech Recruiter   June 2nd, 2008 8:36 pm ET

If you study war and diplomacy it all comes down to one basic principle laid out by Sun Tzu in the "the Art of War". True victory goes to the side that convinces his enemies to yeild without even drawing his sword.

Bush and McCain don't want to meet with foreign leaders becuase they are simply not intelligent enough to joust with them one on one. Yes, I think they are mental sissys. If your big and bad enough to say "screw you" in the newspapers and fox news, then be man enough to say it to their face. If your man enough to go to war then be man enough to tell Americans the real reason. Reagan wasn't afraid, Roosevelt, not even little Truman. Even the vastly outmatched Kennedy talked to our enemies.

Bush and McCain are just a punch of school house punks hiding behind the teachers dress when anybody challenges them.

rexx   June 2nd, 2008 8:34 pm ET

Talk about what? Oh please Iran don't hurt us? The President of the US should not go around begging for people not to "hurt us" This government in Iran want nothing but destruction of the US and Israel. The only thing talking does is give Iran a nice pretty picture of their president shaking hands with the US. It's foolish to believe that ANYTHING comes from talking to people who are so radical and will never change until that government is overthrown.

Vivienne   June 2nd, 2008 8:33 pm ET

I agree with Baracks policy. I really want to be able to see these leaders for myself. I don't trust our ability to compile any intelligence in this country. Look how we have used it. I think that the media will be different during an Obama administration. They will actually cover the White House in a different way. Obama isn't going to have a secretive adminstration full of covert war mongers. I believe he will have tough even tempered guys and gals who are interested in thinking, observation, information gathering and then action. It will be nice to have people who can speak well and represent the country with some grace and charm. I believe that 3 months after taking office, Barack will have all the nations just charmed. They won't be able to get enough of him. It's important that he has a strong cabinet who will work hard for the American people. I believe that Barack will be in great demand.

I know he will.

Bill Stapp   June 2nd, 2008 8:33 pm ET

Senator McCain cannot picture himself talking to his friends, much less his enemies, without losing his temper. Which does not help America's image of being a violent nation.

Senator Clinton cannot picture talking to anyone without getting her way, which does not help America's image of being so arrogant.

Senator Obama does not show either of those symptoms. Yet he has some backbone. That will be good for America.

Illinois   June 2nd, 2008 8:14 pm ET

Yea, sure most Americans agree with meeting with the president of Iran. I'd love to see who you polled. Probably lots of typical Obama supporters. That way you could make Obama look really good by presenting him as having the "best" ideas on foreign policy. What a joke. Most people know that Obama's weakest point is foreign policy. He has no idea what he's doing other than try to make his radical friends happy, which is why he's more than willing to meet with these vicious tyrants.

Too bad that many of Obama's supporters don't have the first clue of what sitting down with someone like that actually means to a vicous dictator and his people. Anyone who knows anything about talks with suspected terrorists realizes that meeting with them only legitimizes them and their cause in their eyes.....and indicates to them that the other person is weak. It will result in a terrorist attack against the US that likely far exceeds what took place on 9/11.

JCB   June 2nd, 2008 8:12 pm ET

Remember - Obama first said that he would meet with the leaders of Iran and other contries considered enemies of the U.S. without any strings attached and any quidelines. He will just talk to anyone at anytime. Since he has a very big mouth, his agenda-less meetings could get him into trouble. He would have to keep changing his meanings and clearing up too many misconceptions his loose lips caused. He is not good at talking off the cuff - he needs to just sit tight and keep quite. Well, actually he doesn't matter anyway. The big democratic machine stole the election from Hillary with the half-votes of Florida and giving Obama over half of the Michigan delegates - when he was not on the ballot in that state. Hillaryl should have those delegates that were given to a non-deserving Obama, or no one at all.

I can understand why people support Senator Obama's position on this issue. Senator McCain believes we should continue the status quo, and we can all see what a resounding success that has been (sarcasm implied). Honestly, the more I see of John McCain the more he reminds me of President Bush. He refuses to change his mind (unless it is required to get the support of the conservative wing of the GOP) regardless of the new evidence.

George Washington   June 2nd, 2008 7:58 pm ET

Bush never wanted to sit down with our "enemies" face to face because he knew deep down that when he looked into their eyes he would see himself, and that would crush his little ego and destroy what little grip he has on reality. Someone once said pride cometh befor a fall. With America teedering on the brink of disaster maybe it's time to have leaders with an open mind instead of closed minds. It can't be any worst than what we have been forced to endure all these any years. GOD save America because it looks like our leaders can't.

Brian Knoxville, TN   June 2nd, 2008 7:55 pm ET

I write as a member of a new group of McCain Democrats that will do the same thing that Reagan Democrats did in '80 and '84. I will vote for McCain because I believe he is the best qualified candidate who will be on the ballot and because I know that he is a moderate.

The choice on Iraq is clear, Obama is calling for a withdrawl that will be as quick as possible, regardless of consequences or circumstance. I think we still call that pandering, by the way.

McCain is calling for a better strategy to achieve realistic goals that will enable our military leaders to withdraw the combat troops in an orderly way after the goals have been achieved.

Sorry Obamacrats. McCain is not Bush. Slogans and empty rhetoric might have helped an unkown, inexperienced and unqualified guy weasel his way off with the nomination of the Democratic Party, but it will not get him elected.... and the country will be better off for it.

What I would like to see is our country come together and get our economy back on track.
I also hope that Obama will find a way to speak to Cuba and help my people..It would be a great thing..if we could all go for a visit

Chi4Obama   June 2nd, 2008 7:53 pm ET

But yet McCain (and bitter Hillary Supporters), still claim that Obama is too "inexperienced" enough to lead?? I guess it was Obama's "inexperience" that has let him to:

1) Run a near flawless campaign during the democratic primary
2) Denounce Politically Pandering ideas like an artifical "gas tax holiday"
3) Exercise the "correct" judgement when voting against the war.

Well if John McCain is out of step with "most Americans", then America better get ready for 4 years of Jimmy Carter II. To "sit down and talk" with our enemies means you are negotiating with them. So what is Barack going to give to our enemies, and what does he expect in return? Bill Clinton tried to appease al qaeda with talk, police actions, and then by just ignoring them, and we see where that got us. Now BHO is doing the same thing. What's the cost of talking to terrorists? You legitimize them by doing so and make them appear to be mainstream.

Over the next few months there will be ALOT of issues where McCain will show how out of step with Americans he truly is.

So his complete and utter ineptness will fall right in line with the millions of new HRC supporters he's about to get. After all they're the reason Bush is in office. (What's your saying "If not Hillary then McCain") LOSERS!

Intelligent, educated, HARD-WORKING Americans (of all races and backgrounds) understand what's actually going on in America!

Americans need to come out of the fog of fantasy about Obama and get real. This guy has been idealized to the point of perfection and the only way to go is down, down, down. Americans are in for a shock wave if this card carrying member of a racist, Anti-American and sexist church is seen as the great agent of change. Just like last time – when Bush was voted in for the 2nd time – Americans will get what they deserve – another loser.

John Smith   June 2nd, 2008 7:48 pm ET

Unfortunately, most of the people opposing Obama, or calling him "inexperienced" are either "racists" or are simply not aware of the fact that --Obama is a "Constitutional Scholar". Hillary and McCain are NOT constitutional scholars. Fresh from looking at the Constitution, Obama is ready to lead!!! We need Change in this NATION! There is a need for change in "generational thinking."

What if?   June 2nd, 2008 7:47 pm ET

Will one of you republicans on here please tell McCain he needs to worry about his own election affairs. Game over, we know he is trying to keep us fighting among ourselves, he needs to really worry about his elect abilities. He needs to worry about why Bush is trying to rush trying to get his rich folks tax cut permanent, dose Bush knows McCain isn‘t really a challenge?

If he wants us dems. to listen, tell him he needs to get busy getting our troops out of Iraq before 100 yrs. because of a war that was not because of WMD.

I find it funny that Clinton supporters say that there is no way Obama can win in November.
Well, back when this primary season started, who thought Obama was going to win in August?
Wasn't Hillary the "inevitable" nominee?

It's simple. If you want Bush policies to go on for another 4 years, vote McCain.

Why the knock on diplomacy? Hello.......time to try something new.
Has the lack of diplomacy has gotten us anywhere?

saritel   June 2nd, 2008 7:38 pm ET

I am very happy to see that American people agree with Obama in this point. I lived in Iran for a long time and know how Iranian people act and think. They are fed up with the previous politics of America .They need a hand to help them not to attack and destroy them. Obama is a right person for Iranian people.

Don   June 2nd, 2008 7:38 pm ET

BO is ten steps ahead of this guys, this what we call visionary leadership

Chris, Silicon Valley, CA, USA   June 2nd, 2008 7:38 pm ET

Well, the Obama maniacs kind of scare me. I honestly think they would still be saying "Yes we can" if Obama said Ahmadinejad was an extraterrestrial.

But, Obama is taking the right track on this. Iran is a greater threat to the US if we antagonize / isolate them. That is what W's policies have done to most of the world.

Dea , Algonquin IL   June 2nd, 2008 7:37 pm ET

No nation have ever prospered fighting endless wars, McCain and His VP Billary will get us in WWIII. Enough stupid talk and tough posture non sense, we need as much peace as we can get, life is hard as it is. Wake up people.

Anton   June 2nd, 2008 7:36 pm ET

Obama, can speak to the president of Iran, but it won't make any difference, cause in reality Iran's president is only a puppet of the religious strong hold in real power. It's the allatolahs that he needs to talk to.

TIME TO GO INTO THE NIGHT HILLARY   June 2nd, 2008 7:29 pm ET

HILLARY WHO IS STILL HERE?

OH, YOU MEAN THAT WOMAN THAT DOESN'T KNOW WHEN TO THROW IN THE TOWEL, AND IS REALLY STARTING TO LOOK LIKE IT COULD BE A PSYCHOLOGICAL CONDITION OF WHY SHE ISN'T STEPPING ASIDE?

IF HILLARY LOVES HER COUNTRY LIKE SHE PROFESSED THROUGH " ALLIGATOR TEARS" PRE-NEW HAMPSHIRE, SHE WOULD SERVE HER COUNTRY BEST TO STEP ASIDE AND JOIN JOHN EDWARDS IN BACKING THE NEXT DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL NOMINEEE – BARACK OBAMA.

HILLARY STILL HAS A SENATE SEAT IN N.Y., WHICH COULD BECOME IN JEOPARDY IF SHE CONTINUES TO TRY AND DIVIDE THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY.

GAME CHANGER: JOHN EDWARDS ENDORSEMENT.
GAME OVER.

WHY IS HILLARY REFUSING TO HEED THE WORDS OF AMERICANS? IS THIS THE KIND OF PRESIDENT SHE WILL BE IF SHE EVER WERE THE PRESIDENT? WE HAVE A PRESIDENT CURRENTLY (BUSH) THAT TOO, BELIEVES HE SHOULD "STAY THE COURSE" IN THINGS , AND YOU SEE WHERE THAT GOT OUR COUNTRY INTO –WAR AND FURTHER DEBT!

HILLARY IS IN HER DISBELIEF AND ANGER STAGES. HOPEFULLY SOON SHE CAN GET OUT OF HER CURRENT " DENIAL" STAGE AND ENTER INTO HER "ACCEPTANCE" STAGE, SO WE AMERICANS CAN GET ON WITH BEATING MCCAIN IN NOVEMBER.

TIME FOR HILLARY TO ACCEPT HER LOSS, GET OUT OF DENIAL, –ALL FOR THE "LOVE" OF HER COUNTRY SHE PROFESSED TO HAVE PRE-NEW HAMPSHIRE PRIMARY TIME.

I will vote with facts nothing more. people are going to do what they want to do so let them. They can vote for McCain. Some people might like war or like the price of gas or home prices or all the other stuff he likes. I do not so I will not vote for McCain. I know Hilliary does not agree with McCain so how can her true support like McCain?

Answer not her true supports: Afraid of a Black Man. I speak the truth.

I just dont understand how someone like 'Oboma that has had no experence in political what so ever. I think something is pretty fishy about why all the cockuis are pulling for Omaba when they don,t even really no him,and all the media wants him into, andwant happened to every vote counts.

Keith   June 2nd, 2008 7:21 pm ET

Obama is of sound mind and judgement and he will do what is best for this nation if he becomes President. McCain is a washed up old man who more or less will likely become a Bush clone if he enters the White House. Talking things out civilly with another nation's President is a much better, and smart strategy to take then, ahem, lying to the American public and to the world about WMD, invading a country which really had no involvement in the 9/11 attacks producing a terrible, endless war in which thousands of our young troops have died in. Yeah Bush, I'm talking about you!

Enlightened Voter   June 2nd, 2008 7:21 pm ET

Obama, thank you from the bottom of my heart for providing the only sane, intelligent, good judgement candidate competing at this time. If it weren't for you I shudder to think about the next four years.

Challen   June 2nd, 2008 7:20 pm ET

It would be helpful if the author of this article actually included the text of the question asked. There is a huge difference between asking if we should be talking with Iran without precondition (Obama's stance) and simply seeking dialogue after some mutually acceptable groundrules/conditions.

Sue in MI   June 2nd, 2008 7:19 pm ET

While I agree with talking to people and not invading their countries, I hardly think a poll of 1000 people qualifies as "the majority of Americans." I get so sick of these misleading headlines all the time.
I also still believe that Hillary must be on the ticket for us to win in November. Obama needs her knowledge, her acumen, and her experience. He cannot beat McCain without her. I prefer her at the top of the ticket, but the sexist folks in this country can't see the forest for the trees, nor look beyond Obama's pretty words to see that there is no substance.

Ralph   June 2nd, 2008 7:17 pm ET

Could it be because there is a real change in politics about to happen? You bet!

David, Santa Rosa, CA   June 2nd, 2008 7:13 pm ET

Well of course we do... why would we want even one person hurt if we can avoid it with talk? To say anything else is treasonous in my view. Hopefully, GW & Dick will get thier come-uppance when Barack becomes Pres.

beverly   June 2nd, 2008 7:12 pm ET

I'm really proud of this nation...
It is a simple common sense. That is why the majority of Americans will support Obama coming November...
If McCain will loose in foreign policy to Obama, then what can he do about the economy.
It is clear that Obama will be our next president

The Truth   June 2nd, 2008 7:09 pm ET

McCain just wants to bomb women and children!

Rev. Thomas Benson, Chippewa Falls   June 2nd, 2008 7:08 pm ET

Sen. Obama has walked out on the members of Trinity Church for no good reason, at least not for a reason that he has not been aware of for the last 20 years. How can you trust a man like this to meet with anybody?

He clearly did it to get the white vote in November. And that is pathetic. The man has no core and no values other than getting elected.

Peter from Oregon   June 2nd, 2008 7:08 pm ET

This is just anther point that many independents, republicans, Obama, and Clinton supporters have in common. We can't keep on shooting first and negotiating after.

McCain is a Hawk. Attempting to use guns for political possitioning and fear to rally support.

It is time we talk with our "enemies". Let's change directions and unite behind whoever opposes McCain.

This is just one more reason I will be voting for Obama this fall.

SamSunny   June 2nd, 2008 7:06 pm ET

Well, first talking and communicating is certainly better than the 'Shock and Awe' approach. I guess McCain thinks having 4200 young and brave American troops dying is a better approach than dialogue with someone he doesn't like......seems like a no brainer to me.....talk, talk, talk....try diplomacy before warfare.

I love this country too   June 2nd, 2008 7:06 pm ET

A Proud American:

I have followed politics for years, and I have read about hundreds of public opinion polls, but I have to admit you've got me stumped.

What is a polling organization doing when it is "chooding" the right group of people?

Reason and common sense.

I mean, really. How are we to know how to handle people if we don't know them? Sun Tsu said "know your enemy and know yourself...". And someone else said "keep your friends close and your enemies closer". There's wisdom in them thar words.

d   June 2nd, 2008 7:01 pm ET

I would like to know who you actually polled. That in itself would tell you the outcome. Was it a TRUE MIXTURE of the feelings of our democracy..........or tuned to just a few like minds? In my humble opinion, polls tell us not much.

MurphyMorseJohnson   June 2nd, 2008 6:59 pm ET

Through the collective conventional wisdom and experience of old politics, the United States has never been more out of control in the Middle East than under the Bushes, the Clintons, and the McCains. Time for a change….

HILLARY IS A PARTY SPOILER!   June 2nd, 2008 6:56 pm ET

You dog gone right we should always make an attempt to talk to even our known enemies, that does not mean that we give in to their demands, but try to reason things out, don't be so quick to go to war, communicate with them TALK TO THEM!

IT'S TIME OUT FOR ALL THE BANG, BANG SHOOT EM UP

SORRY, BUT I AM WATCHING McCAIN RIGHT NOW AND THINKING SOMEBODY NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING TO HELP McCAIN, WHO IS WRITING HIS SPEECHES OR IS IT JUST THAT HE IS JUST AS DUMB AS GEORGE W. BUSH, REALLY WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH HIM? WHAT WAS THE REPUBLICAN REALLY THINKING LETTING HIM IN LIKE THIS OR IS IT THAT THE RACE IS WEARING ON HIS MENTAL ABILITIES? HE'S APPEARS TO BE AS DUMB AS A ROCK!

Mimi De La Cruz for OBAMA   June 2nd, 2008 6:53 pm ET

REBUILD LOUISIANA. LET THE IRAQIS REBUILD IRAQ.

Axel   June 2nd, 2008 6:53 pm ET

The American public is smarter than traditional Washington gives them credit for. Of course you should meet, you cannot force every nation and group in the world into compliance with your world view and priorities using military action alone.

Look at Northern Ireland. Margaret Thatcher of all people had secret and eventually in the open minister level discussions with Sinn Fein and the IRA leadership. There is now peace in Northern Ireland.

Its quite simple, the smart person reasons and seeks common ground. The idiot acts like a school bully. Which one is McCain ?

A Proud American   June 2nd, 2008 6:52 pm ET

Your survey isn't worth the paper it's written on. Anyone can get the results they want by chooding the right group of people to poll. So what good is it?

John   June 2nd, 2008 6:52 pm ET

Well anyone with common sense and able to read a 3rd grade text book knows what good policy is. Kennedy, Reagan, Nixon, etc all met with our enemies. They did not hid behind the might of our military. If you want to be the big dog of the house you have to know how to properly rule your territory and that does not always emply biting.

Andrew in NYC   June 2nd, 2008 6:52 pm ET

of course they do... why the hell wouldnt we talk to them... oh thats right... i guess its a lot quicker and easier just to bomb them... like Iraq? Right?

Loretta from California   June 2nd, 2008 6:51 pm ET

When has talking to anyone hurt the United States?

Ernest   June 2nd, 2008 6:51 pm ET

We have to realize that America cannot survive by itself. Only when you dialogue with your enemies will you realize their intentions and begin to resolve your differences. "Action and reaction are not equal and oposite".

Enlightened Voter   June 2nd, 2008 6:50 pm ET
