Bill Clinton lashes out at Vanity Fair reporter

Bill Clinton is not happy with the way a new magazine article portrays him.

Bill Clinton is not happy with the way a new magazine article portrays him.

(CNN) - Hillary Clinton's campaign Monday apologized for "inappropriate" language used by her husband in response to a Vanity Fair article that quoted anonymous sources questioning the former president's behavior since leaving the White House. (Listen to Clinton's comments Monday.)

The article, by the magazine's national editor Todd Purdum, suggested that Bill Clinton's personality had changed since his 2004 heart bypass surgery and said that there were reports of Clinton "seeing a lot of women on the road."

Purdum quoted four former Clinton aides saying that another of his former assistants had conducted "what one of these aides called an intervention" about the reports of philandering.

A writer for the Huffington Post, Mayhill Fowler, asked Clinton on Monday what he thought "about that hatchet job somebody did on you in Vanity Fair," according to a recording of the exchange posted on the Huffington Post's Web site.

"(He's) sleazy," Clinton responded. "He's a really dishonest reporter." (Earlier: Journalist defends article slamming Bill Clinton)

We all recognize how relentless and intelligent the Clinton's are BUT how did over 17,000,000 Americans get bambozzled into supporting this family in the DNC election process? It boggles my mind.

Bill and Hillary have a long history of controversy, alleged corruption, Bill's adultery and lying to the American people on national tv on more than one occasion.

Now Bill has the nerve to go on the offense and fire back.

President Clinton is 100% right about this reporter.
This reporter [?] according to the last senrence of this article wrote a positive story about Senator McCain, now rights a negative article about President Clinton.
This reporter [?] [ based on this story I would call him a gossip columnist at best ] insinuates that President Clinton was seeing women and yet this reporter [?] says "there was no clear cut evidence that President Clinton has done anything inproper." Scumbag maybe to nice a discription.

The Clinton camp doesn't even trust Bill enough to let him appologize himself. I think that Bill has done more damage to Hillary's campaign then anything else. It is like he is trying to sandbag her so she doesn't win. Maybe he is scared that she would have been a better president then he was.

    Why should anyone apologize?

I'm so sick of the politically correct way the elitist media and liberals act. This is America, where we can say whatever we want.

What's that thing called again? .... oh, jeez.... oh thats right!

    THE FIRST AMENDMENT.

I'm not a dem or a republican, but all you PC people can shut up, scum bags.

Let's see how the responses are after someone writes an article cited from various anonymous sources about Obama secretly meeting 'Black Panther' leaders.

Obama camp goes really low to attack other people while Obama himself claims to play 'higher moral' politics.

Hillary is a strong woman for a reason. Even though I am not a supporter, I feel for her. She has endured years of mental abuse but loves her husband and stays with him. And no wonder he worked so hard to get her elected....he owes her bigtime for putting up with his adulterous ways. Good luck Mrs. Clinton in whatever you choose to do next.

As for the election, congrats Obama!

I think President Clinton was being very kind in only calling him a scumbag. And... since when are "sleezy" and "scumbag" dirty words that we need to appoligize for using?
If Todd Purdum wants his 15 mins. of fame... he got it.
He better enjoy it, because this will be the end of his career as a serious journalist. He can go join all the hacks at tabloid publications.

Even though Mrs. Clinton is not my choice for president, I think this was a lousy time to publish such an unflattering article about her husband. It is all supposition and unfounded rumour, crafted to titillate.

  18. It's just frustration

    Come on, give me a break ! ! !

Bill is just frustrated. I do agree that Purdum didn't mention any names and the quotes could have been faked. But give Clinton a break, he's just frustrated 'cause it's so much harder to campaign for someone else instead of your own.

He shouldn't have attacked Obama though by saying that he has other people slimy Hillary. That's just not true. That may have cost Hillary that VP spot.

Personally, I respect Bill Clinton's opinion that the writer is "slimey" and a "scumbag". After all, shouldn't someone who, himself, is "slimey" and a "scumbag" know one when he sees it? Bill is an expert, with personal experience, into "slimeyness" and "scumbagification", isn't he? Witness Monica!

Why are the news outlets not taking these bottom-feeders to task on these tell-alls? Thy are taking their right of free speech to the wire and getting away with it–(McClellan, vanity fair). It gives mainstream media a bad name to not call them on these low-life articles.

It is kind of sad to see Bill Clinton nowadays. He used to be someone I admired.

Lately, he seems really bitter and angry all the time. Yelling at anyone who says anything negative about him.

    Its really sad to see.
