Bill Clinton lashes out at Vanity Fair reporter

Bill Clinton is not happy with the way a new magazine article portrays him.

Bill Clinton is not happy with the way a new magazine article portrays him.

(CNN) - Hillary Clinton's campaign Monday apologized for "inappropriate" language used by her husband in response to a Vanity Fair article that quoted anonymous sources questioning the former president's behavior since leaving the White House. (Listen to Clinton's comments Monday.)

The article, by the magazine's national editor Todd Purdum, suggested that Bill Clinton's personality had changed since his 2004 heart bypass surgery and said that there were reports of Clinton "seeing a lot of women on the road."

Purdum quoted four former Clinton aides saying that another of his former assistants had conducted "what one of these aides called an intervention" about the reports of philandering.

A writer for the Huffington Post, Mayhill Fowler, asked Clinton on Monday what he thought "about that hatchet job somebody did on you in Vanity Fair," according to a recording of the exchange posted on the Huffington Post's Web site.

"(He's) sleazy," Clinton responded. "He's a really dishonest reporter." (Earlier: Journalist defends article slamming Bill Clinton)

I hope the superdelegates do the right thing and listen to the voice and will of the people!

We want the viable candidate who can beat McCain in the fall and keep 17 million moderate and conservative voters in the Party.

If they ignore the will of the people and select Obama, the party will loose in November and they won't have a base of moderates and conservatives left to rebuild with.

The Democratic Party will be over after today, depending on what they decide.

This is not a "threat" it is a fact. We will not be brushed off a shoulder and told to site in the corner and be quite and vote for a Left wing nut job in training pants.

We love our country too much to let that happen!

Again, why does President Clinton (Bill) need to apologize? He's only telling the truth about a sleazy, slimy scuzball trying to create an atmosphere of distrust for the Hillary Clinton campaign. When Barack Obama gets the nomination it will be thanks to the hijacking of the democratic process with the help of the media.

We can look forward to the same tactics this fall when we are trying to elect our next president. America has real enemies and they are with us every day telling us what to think and how to think. It's called the liberal media. Only a subversive charlatan would take advantage of this kind of press and encourage it. Only the naive and the inexperienced will fall for it.

Don't even think about voting for Barack Obama in November, you have been brainwashed by his campaign and the media. Don't believe what you hear in the media. Stay away from the polls if you even are tempted to vote for him.

Save yourself and your vote for anyone but Barack Obama.

Vote John McCain in November 2008

OH let's get over it. Really. They want to sell magazines.........that's the bottom line. If they were so "concerned" over his behavior and health since the surgery maybe they should rethink printing something that could certainly do more harm to his health. They really must not be able to dig much else up if this old news is all they have. He has a right to defend himself in anyway he wants. At least we know he loves and is proud of America. BTW..........the aides would be fired.

President Clinton "maybe" should not call the reporter a scum bag..... but I will. Vanity Fair has become the National Enquirer and Purdum is a bottom feeder and a disgrace to the publishing industry. I have no issues with Mr Clinton lashing out .....the writer is slimy.

And on a related atory, nice going Obama in not lashing out strongly against Phelger – another hater from your chuch friends.

So Bill wasn't PC, who cares? I don't mind him telling it how it is. Power to him for standing up for himself.

    To Hillary speaks 4 me.

You are buying the Rove and Hannity spin on things. By all accounts 95% of what Trinity United Church does is good for the community. There are issues that needed to be dealt with and I give Obama credit for being loyal and for attempting to stick by his church through the most difficult of times.

The bitter comment has been addressed on countless occasions. Obama acknowledges he should have used the word frustrated instead of bitter. How many mistakes would you make working every day 18 hrs. a day with 3 hrs or less sleep a night?

Your attitude leave a lot to be desired.

What? Bill Clinton calling someone a liar. How is that news? how can that even be printed? Why do some people hold him, and his wife for that matter, in such high regard. I can only hope he was talking about himself when he said "He's just a dishonest guy — can't help it."

Bill and Hillary, no need to apologize for being honest. Sometimes the truth hurts! At least you were not swearing, like some of us would have. This just shows that you are human. HATS OFF TO BOTH OF YOU!!!! Your a wonderful team, good luck in your future!!!

Leave Bill alone. He has provided so much hope and advancement for this country, and the planet, that we cannot begin to repay him.

Vanity Fair: Unnamed sources? Single-sided "journalism?" Mr. Purdum, my family is glad to have cancelled our subscription to VF last year; you clearly have not found your way toward improving your publication's focus or theme or candor, or relevance. Goodbye, again.

Look for Hillary vs Bill in divorce court soon. Since he did not deliver the White House for her, that marriage will be over soon.

I think while Bill's comments were a bit over the top the media is missing a larger story. This same supposed journalist is the one that went into a "closed to the media" private fundraiser event in someone's home and recorded Obama's answer to the question, if disallusioned voters aren't voting on the economy issue, what issues are important to them. Of course, everyone knows his ill chosen words but the media never covered the questions preceding that which put it into context. Of course, this media bias AGAINST Clinton explains that, right? The media THIS TIME keeps commenting that Clinton was sandbagged by this supposed writer for the Huffington Post. I think the media needs to police it's own and this woman is a disgrace to Huffington Post and it is wrong to consider her a journalist of any measure!

    To Hillary speaks for me
    ODE to Hillary
Why was she involved in Whitewater
Why was she involved in Travelgate
Why did she stay with her cheating husband
Why did she lie about sniper fire in Bosnia
Whty did she say Florida and Michigan would nort count at the start of the primaries
Why was she involved with Peter Paul
Why won't she release her earmark spending for 2007
Why are all of these superdelegates that know the Clintons so well
    not supporting her
Why won't they release the contributors to Bills library
Why, whenher campaign over 20 milllion in debt, does she pretend to know anything about the economy
Why did the Clintons play the race card
Why did the Clintons play the gender card

This a the reason why Hillary, if elected wouldn't win the Presidency. The republicans would all come our in forces to bury the Clintons.

The facade is gone. What we as conservatives have seen for years re Bill and Hillary is there for all to see now. He hasn't changed he is just more transparent.

What I don't understan is how anyone could have voted for him once let alone twice.

His Presidency lowered the bar low enough that GW was elected, twice, and that has resulted in a lowering of the bar to the point where a phony, inexperienced man can be elected to this most important office.

The Clinton mantra lives in Obama "Once you can fake sincerity, you have it made."

Of course President Clinton has to be angry, specially with all this him and his wife are going trough, but this is politics and he has to see it as it is. However I just wish the Clintons give it up and don't back Mr Obama to see where is he going.
The Clintons has a lot of reasons not to back him up because the Obama campaing has been trashing them since long ago.
