Bill Clinton lashes out at Vanity Fair reporter

Bill Clinton is not happy with the way a new magazine article portrays him.

Bill Clinton is not happy with the way a new magazine article portrays him.

(CNN) - Hillary Clinton's campaign Monday apologized for "inappropriate" language used by her husband in response to a Vanity Fair article that quoted anonymous sources questioning the former president's behavior since leaving the White House. (Listen to Clinton's comments Monday.)

The article, by the magazine's national editor Todd Purdum, suggested that Bill Clinton's personality had changed since his 2004 heart bypass surgery and said that there were reports of Clinton "seeing a lot of women on the road."

Purdum quoted four former Clinton aides saying that another of his former assistants had conducted "what one of these aides called an intervention" about the reports of philandering.

A writer for the Huffington Post, Mayhill Fowler, asked Clinton on Monday what he thought "about that hatchet job somebody did on you in Vanity Fair," according to a recording of the exchange posted on the Huffington Post's Web site.

"(He's) sleazy," Clinton responded. "He's a really dishonest reporter." (Earlier: Journalist defends article slamming Bill Clinton)

This guy is a scumbag! Has anyone read any of the other garbage he's written? I for one am tired of people having to take back or say they're sorry for what they say. Suck it up and deal with it! If your feelings are hurt go kiss yourself in the mirror!

I do find the timing of this article very suspicious–and Obama is known for sneaky attacks on the Clintons through his surrogates.

Why does anyone really care about Bill Clinton ?? But I see by some of these postings here many people still have fetishes and obsessions with Bill Clinton. Get over it losers!! Purdum is a smarmy scumbag and a miserable creature.

Purdum's problem is that President Clinton dared to replace Mrs Purdum - a.k.a. Dee Dee Myers - after the first two years, because she couldn't cut it as press secretary. (Nor for that matter, could that other crybaby, George Stephanopoulos!)

Clinton was right the first time, and should not apologise! Purdum is another pathetic example of someone who, having left the New York Times - one of Ken Starr's favourite newspapers - has to get himself back in Washington's good graces. What better way than to dredge up some unsubstantiated gossip about Bill Clinton? Like Carl Bernstein, he has managed to make a comeback via tabloid trash. Rather like a child who gets attention by belching at a formal dinner!

Purdum's "anonymous" sources must include Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Chris Matthews!

No 'Don't tase me Bro' anymore because American people have spoken and they need their country back!
Clintons had changed to be republicans in some way. Remember they didn't have to work hard to get elected in the beggining of the campaign. Obama made them to come down and work with ordinary people. They had this wrapped up, up there in the air and had only show up in Iowa and get elected. Thank you Obama for turning things around for us ordinary americans. Now anybody can be a President Of united states of America, just like our fore fathers once left this great country to be!

If these observations about Bill are true would it really surprise you. The reason it's believable is because it's been his pattern for years.

HMMMM!!!! Sounds like that "bitter" comment coming out??? Sometimes you have to accept things in life you don't like. I believe there were ALOT of comments made on both sides. Some worse than others. I look back over the years and see what happened. I am a white 64 year old female. I am voting for Obama. I may not like what happened in his church but I also looked at the other side and didn't like what happened there. So I guess you have to weigh what you think is best. You can't bully and make people vote for anyone. You make your own choice not because you demand you vote for someone else

While in office, Bill Clinton lied repeatedly about his affair with Monica L. . When he left office, he admitted the affair and said, "You can't touch me now I am no longer president." With this in mind, how do you expect the American public to believe you now?

Your are absolutely right Bill Clinton and we all support your outraged.

Another loser trying to steal some of the highlights, or do you think he was paid handsomely to create such libelous print?

This is not even a he says, she says kind of debate, it is an aide told another aide who told another aide, and so on and so on an thus another fair tale.

I hope all of the Clinton supporters BOYCOTT VANITY FAIR.

I'm an Obama supporter but that reporter was way out of bounds. Does he have even one source to confirm his allegations. 'scumbag' is correct. Good for Bill.

  17. Issues Please.....

I think that the writer Mayhill Fowler is the sleazy slimy scumbag by not letting Bill Clinton know that she was being recorded by her. This is the same reporter that recorded Obama in regards to the bitter comment. It's sounds like someone that's looking for recognition but getting a reputation of a tasteless reporter that can't be trusted.

Obama and McCain need to be aware of this so called writer/reporter which I doubt she is because Bill Clinton had every right to beaware that he was recorded. Even though I'm an Obama supporter, I thought it was desperate and very trashy on Fowlers part. She has no credibiilty. Readers beware.

He admitted he didn't even read the article! He could have said: no comment, I'haven't read it yet. But NO-O-O! he fires away with salty language!

And while everyone gets their knickers twisted over something like this, gas continues to rise each and every day! That's why voters want real change and are tired of this stuff !

No third term for Bush with McSame; No third term for The Clintons and their psychodramas!

Citing "unnamed sources" is the same as "making it up as you go along". It is my observation that many journalists "invent" the "news" inorder to sell copy. Freedom of speech is not freedom to deliberately decieve. President Bill Clinton, at least in this case, is right.

Bill Clinton is one of the biggest racists this county has ever seen and it's about time someone starts to expose this. We can risk having this racist get anywhere near the White House.

Well isn't that great... a former president did not read the article, but took it on the advice of a few that there were lies... Oh please make them go away... and when Billy boy said if you elect Hillary you get 2 for 1... that's one issue I hope we will never have to face..

And like Bill and Hillary have never lied ... let's see Whitewater, the Hillary found some notes that she thought were missing, but they were right under her nose...

I wish the media would take every statement of every politican and print it so everyone could see what they said and it would not be out of context.

    Let's get on with it.
