Bill Clinton lashes out at Vanity Fair reporter

Bill Clinton is not happy with the way a new magazine article portrays him.

Bill Clinton is not happy with the way a new magazine article portrays him.

(CNN) - Hillary Clinton's campaign Monday apologized for "inappropriate" language used by her husband in response to a Vanity Fair article that quoted anonymous sources questioning the former president's behavior since leaving the White House. (Listen to Clinton's comments Monday.)

The article, by the magazine's national editor Todd Purdum, suggested that Bill Clinton's personality had changed since his 2004 heart bypass surgery and said that there were reports of Clinton "seeing a lot of women on the road."

Purdum quoted four former Clinton aides saying that another of his former assistants had conducted "what one of these aides called an intervention" about the reports of philandering.

A writer for the Huffington Post, Mayhill Fowler, asked Clinton on Monday what he thought "about that hatchet job somebody did on you in Vanity Fair," according to a recording of the exchange posted on the Huffington Post's Web site.

"(He's) sleazy," Clinton responded. "He's a really dishonest reporter." (Earlier: Journalist defends article slamming Bill Clinton)

You stupid people. Bill Clinton had every right to call him the scumbag that he is. How would you like it for someone to print lies on you. ? Don't defend the wicked, money hungry reporter. This was an Obama supporter and just as the DNC has corrupted our party the media has attempted to destroy the Clintons. This is why I am with millions of women who will never vote for Obama.

The report and everything may have been wrong, but I have a serious problem with Bill trying to link this to Obama. He had nothing to do with it!

This is a post about Vanity Fair magazine. Why are people posting comments about Obama or Clinton's right to continue running? They have nothing to do with this post! Do people even bother reading before they write their comments? Unbelievable!

If you wanna get mad at anyone..get mad at her campaign managers! if you wanna get mad about Fl and Mi get mad at the legislature of those states! Other than that...your no difference than what you claim Obama is! A whole bunch of rhetoric with no solutions! Grow up!

The media is biased toward Obama? He has been crucified in the media – Rev Wright, Bitter comments, Michelle's comments, Trinity Church, Rev Pfleger, flag pin, and on and on and on. How in the world is that favorable to him? Get real.

Bill needs to go home and rest. I am sure there are parts of the story that are indeed true. He was no help to his wife and probably did lots of damage. I am glad to see the last of him.

To former President Clinton, cowboy up and be a man about it. The "politics of personal destruction" has run both ways and you have done your fair share of it over the years, especially through your surrogates. That doesn't make it right, but If it's untrue, ignore it. Better yet, if it's patently false then there are legal avenues open for you to quietly pursue. The more loud protests, the more attention. Do you really think one article will change anyone's mind about you, pro or con? The current president has an entire hatchet job book from his disloyal formal press secretary to deal with. No doubt, a NYT "bestseller." He's ignoring it. I suppose it all comes with the territory.

I'm not a fan of Bill or Hillary anymore, especially after this fiasco of a so called campaign they've ran. However, regarding this Vanity Fair article, this is basically some "he said, she said" stuff and unless the witness is willing to come forward, this article has no legs to stand on. You have to give Bill the benefit of the doubt.

Josh, the twenty year old. Vote Republican then. Your opinion on what this country needs or doesn't need is about as credible as well, the Clintons. What has Hilliary done, besides carpetbag to NY to get elected as a Sen. What experience of her's so qualifies her to become President, being Bill's wife and standing by him? Check the facts, Obama has more time in elected office than she does. The country can, and will survive sasns the Clinton's. And if you want to talk about experience, look at what the clown's in office have done, and you want to vote for McCain? The Democrats don't need your vote that badly or others of your ilk. See ya! And get used to the fact that Obama, yes Obama is the nominee this time around. And just think, he wasn't "inevitable."

How many times does President Clinton have to atone for his past?

Obama has lots in his closet that will be thrown in his face in the coming months. Then who will be the scumbag?

I'd rather vote for a Clinton than another Carter.

makes me wonder if some of the people that claim to be dems in this blog really want to unite... bunch of spoil adults. get over it! it was a very exciting election. Respect these candidates and think about your country. as far as Pres. Clinton, shame for trusting the so called citizen reporter, shame on her for setting him up the way she did and shame on the VF guy for not checking his sources properly.

    now move on!

After Bill lied on national television while President, under oath, about Monica Lewinsky, how can anyone believe anything that he says? It's ironic to hear Bill accuse anyone of being dishonest . . . and especially sleazy !

Well, it depends on what your definition of "is" is. I love how this has all turned around to be Obama's fault. I didn't know he controlled the press. All I hear is Obama praising Hillary and the Hillary supporters saying how negative Obama supporters are. I am a 64-yr-old, white, blue-collar female and I am supporting Obama all the way. I feel sorry for those women supporting Hillary just so she will be the first female president. I hope Obama picks someone honorable for VP.

Why did Obama take his name off the MI ballot? Why did he join with Richardson and Edwards to encourage their supporters to vote uncommitted? TO CONSOLIDATE THEIR VOTES AGAINST HRC. I am appalled by the DNC's decision to give him all of the uncommitted delegates and some of HRC's. How can one claim to be for hope and change and while playing that dirty?
