That would have been funny as ... had it been made by a comedian who's job it is to make jokes. Coming from the VP of the country it's pretty insulting to all Americans! It just goes to show how little regard he truly shows the citizens of this country. I'm surprised his spokeswoman didn't reply with the following comment: On reflection, he concluded so what. The joke is decent. If I were spending time with friends and someone dropped a similar line, I'd probably have a laugh. It's not something that should be said in a public forum like that, though. But, also, it's not something that should be completely blown out of proportion. Dick Cheney has made mistakes that are much more significant than this...how about we start treating those with more attention instead of getting ridiculously angry about an offhand joke.

I think the world just needs to lighten up a bit. If any political humorist had said it, everyone would laugh along.
