(CNN) - Sen. Robert Byrd was hospitalized Monday night, a spokesman said.
The 90-year-old Democrat from West Virginia appeared lethargic when he arrived at his Senate office Monday afternoon in preparation for a vote on global warming, the spokesman said.
After the vote, he returned home, where his caregiver noticed the same symptoms, took his temperature and discovered he had a fever, the spokesman said.

I have to respect a guy who has turned it around the way Sen. Byrd did from his early career to now, but this is just another example that there's a changing of the guard going on. For better or for worse - hopefully, for better - the older generation is peeling back, making way for the new one.
Hope that he is okay.

Although I do not agree with his endorsement of Sen. Obama, I hope and pray that Byrd and his family are doing well!
IN 2002 Senator Robert Byrd was the most outspoken critic regarding the US going into a preemptive war with Iraq, and voted against the resolution. Even at age 90 the man still has important work to do, and I wish him a full and speedy recovery.
Nobody wants to go to the hospital, and for Mr. Byrd and his family I wish only a speedy recovery....
But come on, this guy is 20yrs older that McCain!!!!! And Barack Obama's campaign is questioning the age of McCain. Get real....Obama will take his support though....real change I guess Obama in the politics in Washington.
Get well we need all democratic leaders we can get. We need to defeate republicans (false Christians) we can not afford to have any republican serving our country.
Nobody gets fitter when getting older. Only Mc Cain believes different.

Hats off to him for being a serving senator @ 90 but he should retire. For his own sake, if not for the country and the people who love him.
Why are people so surprised by what the Vice President of the United States says? He is just showing his true colors; and that is pure ignorance, stupidity and lack of respect for others. Surely, he can't talk about anyone when he was the one who got four deferments to keep from serving in the war. This is just a sign of someone who is a coward and would prefer to hide behind the skirts and pants of those who are putting their lives on the line for he and Bush's selfish deeds. Ignorant is as ignorant does!
And yet democrats elect him to be the caretaker of America. Now that, is out of touch.

You are one of Senator Obama's supporters that should be around when he takes the office, because your heart is good and your soul belongs to God and you have resolved the issues of your youth.

Sen Byrd has served our country well but is ailing and aged. He needs to retire. His intentions are good but he needs to step aside.
