Source: Clinton raised VP issue

Clinton is reportedly interested in being Obama’s running mate.

(CNN) – Hillary Clinton herself directly raised the issue of serving as Barack Obama's running mate in a conference call with New York lawmakers earlier Tuesday, a source who was on the call tells CNN's Candy Crowley.

According to the source, Clinton told those on the call that if asked by Obama, she would be interested in serving as his running mate. That comment was not in response to a particular question.

The Clinton campaign maintains the New York senator merely said she would do whatever is in the party's best interest, and that her comments Tuesday are no different than what she has been saying for weeks.

The source also said all the lawmakers on the call thought that Clinton needed to be on the ticket.

Rep. Nydia Velazquez, one of the call's participants, told CNN that she expressed on the call that Clinton needed to be on the ticket in order for Latino voters to cast ballots for Barack Obama.

"I expressed to her how the Latino community felt so strongly about her leadership and how she became a champion for Latinos, in fact a Latino leader in the eyes of so many Latinos," Velazquez said.

"I said to her at that I felt and I hear from many Latinos that there is a problem regarding Obama connecting to them and talking to them and I mentioned that also the same is true with blue collar workers and the women sector and so I say if we really want to win we need to have a ticket that can bring people together that can unify the party," she also said.

The representatives on the call included Reps. Charlie Rangel, Joseph Crowley, Steve Israel, Nydia Velazquez, Nita Lowey, Gregory Meeks, Eliot Engel, Jose Serrano, and Brian Higgins.

Nice of her to raise her hand, but I'm hoping he doesn't make the offer.

Congratulations Senator Obama on a campaign well run. This hard-working white woman will support you all the way to the White House.

That really takes some nerve. First acting like Obama is not qualified to be president. Later acting like he should be your VP when he is in the lead, and now trying to force your way on to the ticket! Can you say POWER HUNGRY!

So she lied. I can't bellieve she's still lying even when she lost! And before this I was creeping in with her as a VP option. But I just can't... She's verything Obama stands against!

if HRC is VP then white house will have three president running America.... Bill HRC and Barack.

Obama being at the mercy of the other two. Poor guy.

It would be kind of disappointing if Obama tries to buy HRC's Votes and offers' her VP slot (and debt relief) in exchange, which would be politics as usual and no change.

HRC should gracefully go back to senate -instead of trying to make history-

Your first sentence is incorrect. It should read, Hillary Clinton would consider serving as OBAMA'S running mate. Even Hillary can't run as her own running mate, as much as she might like to.

Glad to see that Hillary is accepting that it's over. I can't believe the nerve she has saying she'd be the VP...you weren't asked Hillary. Unfortunately, that may be his choice...she has caused such a divide in the party, he may need her....ugh...

She needs to apologize for Iraq vote and apologize to Obama and the Democratic Party; for all of her attacks. If she does that and shows she has some humility then Obama should give her a chance to make her case!

What's the hurry in picking a VP? Can't we let Obama have even one day to bask in his hard-earned victory first? I know Hillary's supporters are eager to have her still involved. But can't we take a break from Hillary this and Hillary that for even one day, and let Obama celebrate first?

Personally, I'd prefer that Hillary bolt from the Democratic Party and run on a 3rd ticket, as an Independant. She'd fit nicely as a "moderate" between ultra-liberal Obama and conservative John McCain.

Nany, go over to Hillaryis44 with that mess. Decent smart people know that it is not true. If it was they would have brought it out already. Obama pick whomever you want for V.P.

If she wanted the spot, maybe she should have run a clean campaign. We haven't forgotten her "commander-in-chief threshold" remark, where she effectively endorsed McCain over Obama. There are much better choices for VP than Hillary.

Hillary don't do it! It will be 4-8 years of do-nothing. It would be like a PFC trying to command a 4 star general. Obama is riding on training wheels, it would drive you nuts!

What a move by Hillary. Now, if he doesn't pick Clinton it will be Barack Obama who failed to unify the party. One of the best political moves I've ever seen.

In your story about Clinton raising the issue of running for Vice President, your editing department made an error by not catching the mistake that she is running for Vice President and being the Presidential nominee at the same time. It said Clinton raised the issue about Clinton. I just thought I would point that out to you. I love the news your all put out and I enjoy the stories you all decide to air that other news stations either don't care about or just are interested in ratings and not man kind.

Sorry Hillary, we don't trust you enough to have you as our VP. Perhaps you have more in common with McCain.... U admire him as a more experienced leader anyhow. Plus he is looking for a VP.

I would hope that Obama would pick someone like Richardson from New Mexico who actually has the experience he is lacking. In talking to many of my friends I think it would not be in his best interest or the best interest of the ticket to choose Hillary. I would offer her something, but not vice president.

Doesn't she have to concede he has WON before talking about the VP slot?

Has she conceded his victory by even making the statementZ???

Why aren't any of the talking heads wondering about this and asking her camp to clarify??????????
