McCain: you are a lost democrat trying to find his way in the republican party. You should have come over when you had the chance. We would have welcomed you. Now, you are just a big disappointment in the way of American progress ruining your own legacy. The conservatives don't like you and the liberals have found Obama and Hillary. Stay in the senate. It will be best for you.

What was with McCain's speech last night? It was awful.

"That's not change we can believe in." Followed by a terrible attempt at a smile. How many times did he say that? At least five. It didn't drive home any message, it made him look like a foolish old man.

McCain is either very brave or very stupid to challenge a great speaker like Obama in a town hall.
Obama, Hillary wants to sabatage you and your efforts.

Obama fans are so disrespectful. McCain is smart to make this request since this is Obama's weakness. Obama has yet to tell us his plans. Hope doesn't pay my bills.

I'm not sure why McCain would put this "challenge" out there. With Obama's God-given gift of speech, and from what I've seen of speech's made by McCain, this can only be a check in the "dumb move" column for McCain. But, bring it on... In our recent state of affairs, we need all of the comedy we can get - it's just too bad that it's going to be at McCain's expense.

Obama stopped debating Hillary because he was getting hammered. His forte is speeches, not thinking on his feet. Hasn't anyone noticed that it always lakes Obama a day or two to respond to pop-up issues like Wright. He needs to staff everything before speaking. The opposite is true of McCain. Good move on McCain's part.

McCain in his speech yesterday, right before obama won the nomination said referring to Obama's health care plans and other issues that any program involving spending of public money his hugely wasteful, and blames the dire straits the US is in on those programs. And then he went forward to this AMAZING statement...

"government shouldn't take our resources and our decisions for us".

Wow... excepting war??? A wasteful (in money and lives) conflict with no clean end in sight and no profit at the end worth the deaths ... It was a decision taken for the people by the government... a decision to to waste theirs resources of money and precious lives.

I just can't wait to see Mcshame get pounded into submission by the verbal beating that he may get.

Remember, Barack may be a nice guy. But he is a product of Chicago politics....His biggest challenge may be not trying to keep his nice guy image while still making McCain cry for mercy.

I would love to hear McCain's thoughts on the economy, something he admittedly "doesn't understand very well."

And when McCain talks about staying in Iraq for the long haul I want him to lay out how he plans to pay for it. Because Bush's plan was excellent. $12.5M per day in borrowed funds over six years has done wonders for America. Genius, the lot of `em.

I'm tired of "a President I could have a beer with." I want an intelligent, self-made President who understand what's best for America even if I might not. My concerns are for feeding my family. I don't have the time or the resources to see the bigger picture. I want a President with enough sense and smarts to do that job for me. Isn't that the job of government in the first place? To cover the big picture while private citizens focus on their individual lives?

Afterall, we do elect them to run the country. Why are so many Americans intent on playing arm-chair quarterback when it comes to government?

Obama is the breath of fresh air we need in this country. And he isn't Jimmy Carter rehashed. If anything, he resembles Kennedy with his optimism and willingness to challenge America to hold itself to a higher standard.

Barrack-and-roll!

McCain should be careful not to over exert himself. I become sleepy after hearing him speak Bor-----ing. We Dems can take back the White House only if we work together.

Let us do this once and for all.

Don't do it Obama. It's already been said that this is McSame's comfort zone and that McSame's speeches stink so that is the only reason he is asking you to do this.. why give him what he wants. He thinks that he will have the upper hand in these situations..well, then again maybe you should do it just to prove him wrong!

I honestly tried to listen to his speech last night and found myself picking at my toenails, thinking about my bills, wondering what was coming on television later on, if my son was coming home early or late and I hadn't heard a word the moron said. But i did try. He is incredibly dry, repeats the same old uninspired spin and doesn't even believe in his own message. No wonder I had such a hard time.

Ok McInsane supporters or new Repubs (embittered clinton supporters).....Don't act like Barack can't handle debating the senior citizen. Do not believe that his lack of willingness to debate Hillary prior to No. Carolina is any measure of his abilities. He had to hold his fire against a fellow democrat. If you can't see that it was not a good thing for Hillary to do and why Barack had to avoid it....then you're just plain dumb!

Back to Clinton Supporters....please don't start defending the republican brand and teaming up against Barack because you're bitter. That's childish and it shows how far your emotional tirades have devolved. Better yet be a woman of your word......or angry male clinton...man of your word....go to the Faux News and post your comments there. There are plenty of Dem / Lib haters over there. You'll fell right at home.

Hypothetical question and I really hope somebody can answer it: Let's say Obama puts Hillary on his ticket as VP, and for some horrible reason...severe/terminal/incapicitating sickness, some federal crime occurs while running for office, or sudden death of Obama....any scenario that would negate his running as president, and Hillary doesn't even have to be on ticket as VP, it could be anybody else as VP: What would then happen to the Democratic ticket? Would the person running as VP be bumped up to run as President and the DNC picks a new VP? Or would the DNC pick somebody else to be in the Presidential slot and keep Hillary or whoever as running for VP? Like I said, hypothetical. Someone I asked said it would never happen...but, God forbid, unforeseeable events do occur, so what would happen? Anyone?

Marla, what do you mean Obama will chew him up and spit him out. That is ridiculous. The speech you heard last night was a speech written by his team and read off a teleprompter. It's people like you who keep perpetuating the rumor that Obama's articulate. He is, in fact, INarticulate. On his own, he stammers, misses the point, uses poor grammar, and winds up looking like a deer caught in the headlights. If he does debate McCain, I'll be watching from the sofa, big bowl of popcorn on my lap, wearing my beautiful Hillary "08 tee shirt, and watching your guy go down in flames.

How about McCain and Obama take this a step futher and invite ALL the presidential candidates which includes third party (like Bob Barr) and independents (like Ralph Nader). That way America can see how each of the candidates match up. Both candidates claim to reach out to independents so why not invite those other candidates to the debates?

Ok I know it's not going to happen because neither of the two major parties want to even the playing field at all so that they can keep their stranglehold on our government, but I just think it would be nice to hear all the sides of the issues.

Careful what you ask for McBush.

When the Clinton faithful see Obama tearing McSame a new one in these debates, they will all come back into the fold. Nobody wants a third term of Bush's failed policies, Obama is going to throw the spotlight on McCain and expose him for the Bush clone that he is.

Pay no attention to the Operation Chaos nuts posting on the Ticker.

Be careful what you ask for, McCain. You just might get it. Obama will run rings around McCain in any debate setting, so bring it on!

But, if I'm Obama, I would wait and do this little debate tour between the convention and the general election. Barack needs to spend the next two months unifying the Democratic base, selecting his VP, and raising as much money as he can before the deadline for primary campaign giving expires. There are lots of Hillary supporters he can reach out to and work with to get involved in his campaign. He needs to spend the summer focusing on those issues and debate with McCain in the fall.

Now that's good and creative (The Bush Twins George and John). You deserve a pat on the back for that one. As far as Mccain wanting to debate every week just shows he cannot be getting good advise already. Public speak is Obama's strong point and after 21 debates with Hillary he is pretty much use to going against as tough a person as you are going to find. I see Old John showing signs of desperation already. He must feel that he is already playing catch up or something. He has to know that b/w his temper and lack of knowledge of any public affairs besides the war he would lose to even Kerry or Edwards. He may could beat Richardson on a good day. At this rate it's going to be easy.

Obama can read a pretty speech that's been written for him, but he'll get crushed just like he always does when he has to think on his feet.

I can't wait to see empty suit Obama stumble and bumble his way through debates with McCain. Or maybe he'll start crying and hiding again after the first one, claiming he's too "busy." That tactic won't work now that he's in the big leagues.

Did McCain also have some brain damage listed in his 1200 Pages of medical history from last 6 years.
I think he is sick because he talks about americans dying in Iraq with a smile on his stupid face.

I think that would be good, just not 20 of them like with the debates. Maybe a couple per month. Obama should actually be salivating at the chance because now he can go toe to toe on the ISSUES and not have to defend himself from the sleazy Clinton machine.

It is unlikely he will honor you with debates---unless he has his Q-cards, teleprompter, and all questions are known in advance. One thing's for sure...Hussein Obama cannot think very fast on his feet. When he does...he screws the pooch every time.

Just keep him on the ropes John.

McCain needs to take the advise Obama gave him last night regarding taking some US tours instead of boasting about going to Iraq. We are trying to elect a president of the US not a leader for Iraq. It's nice to look out for other countries, but remember that charity begins at home before spreading it abroad.

Can't wait to see McCain bitting off more that he have enough teeth left to chew.

How about this George and John, save your name calling and at least act like adults. Let's hear both candidates without their "advisors". Let's hear them be challenged by each other and have to respond candidly without speech writers and strategists telling them what to say. The off-the-cuff responses will tell us more than any well prepped speech. Let's demand that they not only say what they promise, but detailed information about how they'll accomplish it. And most importantly, let's decide who to vote for AFTER we hear them.

This would be a procedural nightmare -- not only Obama and McCain travelling together, but McCain folks demanding that the audience consist of 1/2 McCain supporters. Practically speaking, this would require, among other things, turning away hordes of Obama supporters and funding a sufficient number of McCainiacs to fill the hall. It would be even more staged than a podium-to-podium debate.

This would be a procedural nightmare - not only Obama and McCain travelling together, but McCain folks demanding that the audience consist of 1/2 McCain supporters. Practically speaking, this would require, among other things, turning away hordes of Obama supporters and funding a sufficient number of McCainiacs to fill the hall. It would be even more staged than a podium-to-podium debate.

These would be the kind of debates that John McCain would win.

I am an Obama supporter, an avid one, but in these "townhall-style" debates, John McCain would dominate. Obama is tremendously powerful on a podium in front of thousands of people because he can "activate" an audience. His speeches excite people and challenge them to think...

That said, John McCain delivers horrible podium speeches. Look at last nights verbal abortion as evidence. Where McCain excels is with a small group of people where he can humanize with them...particularly his demographic of people who are more used to townhall meetings. McCain stinks at making canned speeches because he can't fulfill the voice inflections he's supposed to and his smiles look ridiculous...but he can rabble-rouse with the best of them.

If Obama agrees to these townhall debates he's going to look stupid and elitist. McCain can walk into a townhall meeting, give a decent speech that appeals to the audience, kiss every baby and still come out looking like the smartest, most experienced person in the room. If Obama tries to do this he's going to look like an intellectual elitist in a suit, attempting to incite people who aren't incitable, and again trying to convince people that even rockstars are people too. While I am thrilled to see Obama get the nomination (who doesn't like seeing the guy they rooted for win?), if he agrees to this he will fail.

Think about it this way- when has Obama drawn the largest crowds? Weekends (at rock concerts), evenings in large cities (typically after work) or huge rallies (again, in the evening after work). When has McCain done his best campaigning? During the day, in the morning, at these townhall meetings. In large audiences he looks like an imbecile, in small groups he looks like a saint.

Obama should counter this. Imagine if he were to agree to meet McCain halfway. He would be the image of bi-partisan. What if he were to agree to debate McCain once a week, but only in front of huge audiences, in the evening, and at the podium? Obama looks like he's not willing to back down, while McCain would then be forced to sheepishly run away.

Kudos to Scott

I believe what he says, he is a decent man and that's more then I can say for this administration.
With my limited view, I knew Bush was going to war no matter what the evidence to the contrary.
Of course his loyal dogs are going to try to discredit him.
Bush lies and all his dogs, Cheney, Rice, and Townsend,
(I mean no disrespect to mans best friend) and his minions swear to it, Shame on them it is disgraceful.

My question is, how many standing 8 counts will McCain get, before the moderators step in to end the debates? They may seriously need to consider some slaughter rules, because this thing might get ugly fast.

Oh John. . .John. . .John. . .don' t waste your breath. After failing miserably in all the Democratic debates, Obama's staying as far away from them as possible. He showed how cowardly he was when he refused to come out from behind his teleprompter, like a man, and debate Hillary, one-on-one, before the last several primaries. Yep, he was too chicken to face a woman in a debate.

I really do not think that Johnny boy knows what he is asking for. Can you really see him debating against Barak Obama? Johnny boy does not look like a president and most definitely does not speak like one. I felt so sorry for him last night when he was delivering that no feeling, fake smile speech. Barack Obama will be the next President of the United States!!!

yes. Sounds fun. Obama will perform well that republican will decide to change the settings. We also need regular setting with questions from U-Tube and other internet media too. Fun election year where Mccain compete with one of the talented politician of all times. I cannot wait!!!!

I feel sorry for McCain. The guy can't read his telepromter all by himself, now he wants to increase his blood pressure by asking, No, challenging Obama to a debate? Will his mom be the moderator?
