McCain is out with a new ad.

(CNN) – John McCain’s released his debut spot of the general election ad wars Friday.

In the 30-second spot, which will air in major battleground states, the presumptive Republican nominee talks about his family’s history of military service.

“I hate war,” he says.

(Full script after the jump)

Only a fool or a fraud talks tough or romantically about war.

When I was five years old, my father left for war.

My grandfather came home from war and died the next day.

I was shot down over Vietnam and spent five years as a POW. Some of the friends I served with never came home.

I hate war.

And I know how terrible its costs are.

I'm running for President to keep the country I love safe.

I'm John McCain and I approve this message.

McCain is the biggest flip flopper ever. I have no idea where he stands on any issues because he changes his mind so much. How are we suppose to believe anything that he says now. He'll say one thing and he'll do another IF he gets into office. I dont' know why they even call him the straight talk express when he goes back and forth on issues to gain independents or gain his base back.

McCain sucks.

Dee Okla.   June 6th, 2008 1:09 pm ET

I don't believe you.

David O   June 6th, 2008 1:08 pm ET

OF COURSE HE HATES THIS WAR.......

THAT'S WHY HE IS GIVING IT UP AND STARTING A NEW ONE WITH IRAN.

Susan, TX   June 6th, 2008 1:07 pm ET

If McCain hates war so much, why hasn't he told his supporters that he was wrong to vote for the Iraq war? At least Clinton did.

Democrats UNITE VOTE AGAINST MCCAIN!

Jeremy   June 6th, 2008 1:05 pm ET

The left-wing complain about fearmongering and then they try to make us afraid of MCain with threats of world war III's and great depressions.

It's not okay to scare us, unless your making us afraid of Republicans. Just another example of how hypocritical the liberal movement is...

Beverly, NYC   June 6th, 2008 1:05 pm ET

McCain may hate war but he doesn't mind occupying another country for 100 years and forcing US democracy down their throats.

NYC Native   June 6th, 2008 1:05 pm ET

"Bomb bomb bomb bomb bomb Iran?" He sure doesn't sing like he hates war. Which John McSame is this one?

Santiago   June 6th, 2008 1:03 pm ET

Oh, really. So that's what he means when he says we will never deploy our troops for oil, AGAIN.

Prior to the USA invading Iraq there was an article printed in the 'USA Today' about GEN Colin Powell's frustration and disgust of the plan and procedures to ensure the invasion (terrorist attack) on Iraq. Less than a week later he gave his infamous speech based on new erroneous intelligence. Senator McCain still voted on the invasion. Surely he had to understand what was happening just like he did when he voted against funds for the Katrina victims.

His theme song should be "Out of Touch" by Hall and Oats

hugues   June 6th, 2008 1:01 pm ET

if you really hate war,why did you vote for it?

Marty   June 6th, 2008 1:00 pm ET

I am also impressed with McCain, though he is my second choice for president. I agree with the first comment and am happy to see a republican talk about gay marriage in an open and honest way. I am sad he does not support gay marriage but am glad he honestly expressed his opinion without being hostile or judgemental. The gay issue is only one of the major issues.

This article was about war. Of the two presumed candidates running for president, I would feel safer with McCain as president in a time of war, so I will be voting for my second choice McCain, over my third choice Obama.

Chryssa   June 6th, 2008 1:00 pm ET

What he means is "I hate war . . .when it's me or my relatives fighting in it. When it's someone else's kids, how does 100 years sound?"

S.B. Stein E.B. NJ   June 6th, 2008 12:57 pm ET

Why hasn't he offered a way to get out of the conflict in Iraq and other places? With all the 4,000+ dead and tens of thousands mentally and physically wounded, how does he plan on helping them?

Obama 4 President   June 6th, 2008 12:57 pm ET

oseki evans   June 6th, 2008 12:54 pm ET

You can fool yourself but you can`t fool the American people Mr. War Monger! Bush did the same sweet talking and of course you can`t see where it got us because you are both one of a kind. That your family always has been military shows that the seeds of war has been inplanted in you and you couldn`t do without one. 100 more years in Iraq? And you hate war? Go get a life stupid!

JoJo   June 6th, 2008 12:53 pm ET

McStupid the Imposter! Frankly, he's stuck on stupid! He responded to protesters the other day by putting on a grim face, gritting his teeth, and saying "We will never surrender in Iraq" or somesuch. What a lovely temperament. Wouldn't it be great if we were still in Vietnam too!

Yasriel   June 6th, 2008 12:53 pm ET

Who said the following:
1. "We will be greeted as librators"
2. "Bomb bomb bomb bomb Iran"
3. Iraq has WMD when it has none.
4. Did not carefully read the National Intelligence Estimate on Iraq
5. Voted 95% with Bush last year
6. Does not want our troops out of Iraq

And yet he now says, "Only a fool or a fraud talks tough or romantically about war"
John McWar it's either you're a fool or fraud or both and whoever votes for you is a fool as well.

"I hate war" Really? All I can say is, "Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran … bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran". I hope the Dems are smart enough to play and replay his very revealing sense of humor, again, and again, and again. People need to know who the real McCain is – a war monger.

Amanda M - Chicago, IL   June 6th, 2008 12:51 pm ET

I come from a military family and have nothing but the utmost respect to those who have served. We are human and war, while horrendous is sometimes necessary. The war we're in now? Horrendous and unnecessary. So I'm going to vote for the candidate who gets that.

Sorry McCain.

What if?   June 6th, 2008 12:49 pm ET

Dear Mr. McCain,
Will you please find more information to go with your story you constantly tell over and over again? There is so much that have changed since you were shot down in Vietnam. You state "I hate war", We could have sworn you said the war may go on for another 100 yrs. (flip flop, it didn’t work so you changed it) All I can say is you should be happy that the president during your captivity in Vietnam didn't suggest the war may last for 100 YEARS.

Reference to your vision of change......you say there’s a right change or a wrong change......McBush 3rd, that said, you are the WRONG (so call) change you have joked about. Waste a vote on you. PLEASEEEEEEEEE STOPPPPPPPPPPP

Didine - Maryland   June 6th, 2008 12:49 pm ET

Please give us a break, MR. Mcain. If you hate war, why did you authorized it in the first place. We can not believe you and we will not vote for you in November because you want to keep our men and women in Irak for 100 years.

Michael Lorton, Virginia   June 6th, 2008 12:48 pm ET

If McCain hates war so much, why is he so gung-ho on remaining in Iraq? It sounds like McCain is blowing smoke out of both ends. This ad is going to drop a "bomb" on his campaign strategy.....and he wants to be President?......right?

Lynette   June 6th, 2008 12:48 pm ET

My father served in the US Navy during WWII; however, he never discussed his war experience with my sisters and me. He was a staunch Democrat. I got my American values from both of my parents. My father fully explained to me what the present-day Republican Party is all about. If you care about all human kind, you will vote for Democratrs. If you have the "me and mine" mentality and the "us 4 and no more attitude, you will vote Republican. The people of Appalachia deserve to have greatlty improved economic conditions. We do not want to see them to continue to suffer. But they must help us help them. They need to vote Democratic for their ow.n good. They need to vote in favor of others' economic good as well as their own. A McCain presidency will not result in economic good except for Americans who are already among the wealthly and greedy. I pray that Senator Obama will have the opportunity to spend a great deal of time with them. He only want what is good for them. They need to try the filet mignon instead of settingl for chopped steak. They deserve the best President of the United States possible and so does the rest of America. Love to all that read this message.

No McCain   June 6th, 2008 12:46 pm ET

Hey McCain, you dont need to put adds. We all know your story before you even open ur mouth. Your story is the same old story: "I am John McCain and I served my country all my life and we will stay in Iraq for 100 years"

And of course you will not agree to anything unless it starts with: "back then as I was serving in Iraq, ...".

Anonymous   June 6th, 2008 12:45 pm ET

How does voting for a misguided war keep us safe?

Independent in Iowa: If you are a gay man, please think thoroughly about voting for a man whose record includes votes against bills that would stop employment discrimination based on sexual orientation and add sexual orientation to the definition of a hate crime. (Not to mention, he supports Don't Ask, Don't Tell.)

Ehsanul Haque   June 6th, 2008 12:44 pm ET

Mr. McCain, you do not have to hate war!!! When it is a necessity, justify reasons to go for war (Second World War), one must not hate to participate the war for the safety of mankind. It's not a war in Iraq, It's an Invasion with no reason. You can not bring an argument whether you win it or loose it. Along with American deaths, woundeds, money and others you have to consider the Iraqi deaths, woundeds, orphans, widows, refugees and over all change of life style in Iraq. In no way your argument 'troop serge' is working, is any good for that poor country.
Mr. McCain, question yourself if you did any good by voting in favor of this Iraq Invasion. If you are honest, you will not continue this Presidential Race atleast with this argument.

"Whatever Grandpa"   June 6th, 2008 12:43 pm ET

Overturning Roe v. Wade ring a bell? How about 50 permanent military bases in Iraq? Our commanding their airspace? American troops AND contractors immune from criminal prosecution for ANYTHING? This is what the Republicans want to hand us...along with continued low taxes for the rich, big breaks for big oil, and you can bet your last dollar, a war with Iran....don't forget NAFTA!

Hope none of you have sons...seen recruitment numbers for the military lately? No help from the republicans...won't even offer them a college education. Put another republican in office who starts another war on false pretenses...you'll see a nice reintroduction to the draft!

ANY democrat that votes for McCain in November, for ANY reason, frankly...please leave our party! If your feelings are overwhelming you because Hillary didn't get the nod, maybe this isn't the right party for you after all.

Gaffer in Dover, NH   June 6th, 2008 12:38 pm ET

If the American Presidency was earned, there would be no greater payment for service to our country such as McCain's.

But the American Presidency is not earned. The American Presidency is decided, decided by those weighing who will best serve us as a leader, not a soldier.

Plus, quite thankfully, there's a lot more this world than war. At some point, we have to till the fields, build the homes, and raise the children, which are the reasons we go to war in the first place. Perhaps, like the last guy, McCain's too focused on winning the war and not the peace.

Bob   June 6th, 2008 12:38 pm ET

"this guy is a joke all he talk about is his war story in Vietnam. Get a life we have many war heros that are not known so get a life Mccain"

To the ignoramus who wrote this, go look at McCain's story as a POW on Wikipedia or other neutral sources.

How he was tortured for 5+ years

How he could have been released years earlier but chose not to demanding first the released of POWs in the camps before him

How he (under torture) refused to divulged the identities of important military personnel and then gave them the names of the Green Bay Packers

How he used code in "confessions" to signify that his confession was coerced, and how after he was tortured more and put in solitary for years due to his stance

Typical POW...I think not.

Disagree with his politics fine. But an American hero, he IS.

Go home and take care of your arms and face. Spend time with your wife. I know she needs a hug or something because we know what she's not getting-whether you're there or not. PLEASE SHUT UP NOW!!

Israel have said they are sick of Iran not cooperating and will be taking action themselves if they start developing Nukes. war service does not have anything to do with running a government.he says he hates war.i dont believe him.being a pow is not heroic, although surviving it does say something about his inner strength.i'm afraid his anger issues and lack of judgement are direct effects of his captivity.i read mccain's story ,as a boy,and the horrors they endured, in the 'hanoi hilton'.i'm certain the mental affects, are still with him,as are many of the physical affects.his service as a pow does not qualify him to be president,as well as whether or not his forebears were veterans.we need a president that works towards peace, instead of one who is in a constant war mode, like bush.mccain has no qualifications to be president, and he would not live out his first term, with the pressures of the president.his fake smile makes me want to puke.

Consider that McCain has no
plan for victory in Iraq, he
just wants to stay there for

that he has no understanding

ancient, advanced, old age.

He's a candidate with one
foot in the grave and the
other on a banana peel.

McCain, You thrive on war! That's all you want to talk about. You're an angry man who's trigger happy. If you have so much experience with military matters how could you let Iraq happen? You have your eyes on Iran now. You're all military and you won't hesitate to send OUR sons and daughter to war, since you've sent your own. You are a dangerous, evil, little man.

A Dem in November   June 6th, 2008 12:27 pm ET

B. Churchill   June 6th, 2008 12:27 pm ET

Winston Churchill said "Democracy is the worst form of government – except all the others." Republicans say "I/we hate war – but not as much as diplomacy, economic development, social justice, population control, environmental protection, and any other means of avoiding war." You can't have a voracious military-industrial complex without the endless consumption of weapons. What consumes weapons? War. What renders each succeeding generation of weapons obsolete – requiring yet another generation of inevitably obsolete weapons? War. What is bankrupting our nation, as it has so many others? Do the math...

Time for a Change We Can Believe In. Time to push back against the fools destroying what our grandfathers and grandmothers worked so hard to build. God Bless America!

The Federalist   June 6th, 2008 12:25 pm ET

Come on, people... enough with this "bush lied, people died" stupidity.

We announce to our enemies and the entire world that we're going to war with Iraq four to six months before launching troops, and then we suddenly are aghast, thinking we've been "lied" to, because, gee, there were no WMD when we got there.

This is like tipping off a drug dealer that he's about to be raided. Do you actually think you'll find any drugs? No, because he's going to ship his "drugs" to a friend, say, maybe in Syria.

Sue in Ohio   June 6th, 2008 12:25 pm ET

In his ad, does he ever mention that he knows that ALL of the administration lied? Or that all of the deaths and injuries from Iraq are because of lies? And that the war was unjustified? But that he wants to continue that war? I hate war, too. But, I am sick about all of my soldiers doing what they are doing because of criminals.

ginger   June 6th, 2008 12:25 pm ET

To the Hillary supporters turning to John McCain for comfort you need to know about the following.

McCain voted twice in 2005 and 2006, to defeat a Democratic amendment that would have set up an independent commission along the lines of the 9/11 Commission. But McCain claims he "supported every investigation" Into the government's role regarding the hurricane, when in fact he did not.

McCain also misrepresents Obama's stand on naming a Revolutinary Guard as terrorists.

Obama cosponsored a earlier bill that also called for designating the IRGC as a terroist organization. This was before Kyl Lieberman's amendment.

Do you think if McCain was doing this to Hillary had she been the nominee you would stand for it? Hillary is going to support Sen. Obama because she loves and cares very deeply for the Democratic Party. Sen. Clinton would NEVER support John McCain for President so why would you.

NWindependent   June 6th, 2008 12:24 pm ET

For all of you asking why he is unwilling to leave Iraq before it's stable it's because he does have the experience to know it would end in genocide.

It just shows how inexperience team Obama is.

He says he knows war and the costs, yet he is willing to send our troops to a war that we should not have been in. Also how about the cost to our country. We are trillions of dollars in debt and still falling. Please! You have millions of beer money and don't feel our pain. Also don't ever lie again about the "aid" you give to people for Hurricane Katrina. You and Bush were celebrating your birthday when people were suffering and dying.

Just look at FactCheck.org. His other policies (policies not related to war) are based on made up facts and would greatly increase the national debt. He has no polices to take the US out of this economic crisis.

As Sen. Obama said, no nation in history can maintain a dominant military without a robust economy. All his war plans will fail because he has no solid economic policy.

His war policies are also based on a made up dichotomy. There is no way US can achieve victory without making the Iraqi government take charge of their own country. That's what Obama says he will force the Iraqi government to do. That's what McCain said he will let the Iraqi government take it's time to do. Either way, if the definition of victory i the same for both policies, then to categorize the quick policy as "loosing" is a bit disingenuous.

Calimar   June 6th, 2008 12:14 pm ET

You're John McCain and out of touch with the human race. Go back into your cave, GOP dinosaur!

Warmonger   June 6th, 2008 12:13 pm ET

can we all just try to be honest this time around? of course no one 'likes' war... but some people justify it and some don't. I'm surprised McCain doesn't see this war for what it is – more Vietnam crap that does nothing but suck resources away from our country. This country is not invincible – can we all just live with that?

Susie   June 6th, 2008 12:13 pm ET

If you hate the war so much why would you risk other American soldiers life to continue the Iraq war for another 100 years? Mc Cain please make sense of what your messages are. Don't you think that you are contradicting your own message. You hate the war so much that you voted for the war in Iraq.
Senator Obamas' judgement about the war in Iraq was more logic so that is why he did not vote for it. And for you to say that you hate war but continue the war is 2 different message and it is confusing.
The whole world is suffering because of the war in Iraq and it will continue if Mc Cain become President so please vote for Senator Barack Obama for President.
Canada for Obama

Really?   June 6th, 2008 12:13 pm ET

You know what? John Kerry and Max Cleland were also war heros - who the Republicans trashed, big time. Not just on politics, but specifically on their service. Cleland gave his limbs for this country, for goodness sakes! At the same time, Republicans supported Bush and Cheney who did everything they could to avoid serving. I'm sorry. I don't want to hear that McCain is a worthy candidate because of his military service.

RHM   June 6th, 2008 12:13 pm ET

"Only a fool or a fraud talks tough or romantically about war."

"Bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran.... "

"Make it a hundred [years of war in Iraq]...that would be fine with me."

"I had something picked out for you, too – a little IED to put on your desk."

Yeah, McCain, I completely agree – only a fool or a fraud talks tough about war.

Sebastian   June 6th, 2008 12:12 pm ET

John -

How many of these relatives where drafted versus enlisted?

Do you believe you are superior to all others candidates (Romney, Huckabee, Guilianni, Thompson) that were not POWs?

Do you believe the country owes you anything, or should recognize you as better presidential material, because you were captured by the enemy?

We have entered a generation where our young people are no longer compelled by a military draft to serve in the armed forces. Moreover, post Vietnam of now 45 years -to- 35 years ago, America has entered a period where the scope, size, and frequency of war declined ...

Grenada ... not really a war
Panama action to get Noriega .... not really a war
Dessert Storm ... not really a war due to excellent management by General Powell.

Current Iraqi scenario ... a real war with a volunteer army.

How does your family history translate into tangible knowledge about how to plan, manage and lead a successful project ... like a war?

JJ   June 6th, 2008 12:12 pm ET

I can't imagine any true democrat voting for this guy out of spite. I'm sorry but him saying he is different than Bush is baloney. He stands for the same things and thinks the same way Bush does.

Reagan sent us to Lebanon, Bush Sr started Desert Storm and Bush Jr. started Iraqi Freedom. Now you have John McCain who wants to stay in Iraq and bomb Iran. It seems that the only thing they know how to do is start wars.

PA-Danielle   June 6th, 2008 12:08 pm ET

I hate war as well...

...Which is why I opposed us going into Iraq from the beginning without global support.

...Which is why I believe that you must communicate with your enemies as well as your allies.

...Which is why I do not believe a war on terrorism should be fought by one country alone, but by a united coalition of nations.

...Which is I oppose the arms trade and war as a business that promote the use of contract soldiers.

...Which is why I believe that the US Constitution and Bill of Rights are what define this country and illegal wire tapping and acts of torture bring down the rights and values of every American.

If I believed Senator McCain even came close to believing in my beliefs I would consider voting for him, but alas he does not.

...and so it shall be.

30 years ago he was a hero

10 years ago he was a maverick

As a man in full, I am proud to count him as an American hero and ture patriot.

However as the leader of the United States and thus the free world, he is wrong for the job.

Still a great man, but past the time that he can change the course of history.

Nate   June 6th, 2008 12:08 pm ET

Isn't his message counterintuitive and hypocritical? As someone who is an ardent supporter of the war, doesn't his insistence on continuing it despite the monstrous consequences of war on our soldier's psyches and families indicate his lack of empathy towards our soldiers in Iraq?

Brian in Florida   June 6th, 2008 12:07 pm ET

McCain is an honorable man, but as much as he professes to hate war, he voted for this one on flimsy evidence. If he hated it enough, he would have demanded the truth from Bush about the justification for war and the exit strategy. He would also see that our military is spread too thin. Our fighting men and women need real support: clearly defined mission, appropriate equpiment, real VA benefits, a strong GI bill, decent length rotations and a commitment to only place them in harm's way when all other avenues have been exhausted. A yellow ribbon on our SUVs' doesn't cut it.

We are trillions of dollars in debt and still falling. Please! You have millions of beer money and don't feel our pain. hey "don't say home" how can you tell people to vote for McCain, or Write in Hillary? That doesn't make sense to me at all. The two are total opposites. Obama is the only logical choice since Hillary is out. Get over yourself and support the party and stop being a sore loser.

Obama/Richardson '08!

Herman In LA   June 6th, 2008 11:52 am ET

To all of you Hillary supporters who don't vote for Barack just keep in mind that Barack is going to take care of Hillary and don't you forget it. So don't be stupid to think she is not going to be well taken care of, now with that being said if you throw your vote away to McSain then Hillary will not be getting what she want from Barack come November.

A vote for McSain is a vote against Hillary.

Obama 08!!!

Writing in Hillary is the same as staying home, dummy!

Cathy   June 6th, 2008 11:51 am ET

McCain says he hates war but he has repeatedly said "I will never surrender in Iraq."

A man with that type of mind set will keep us in a war based on all lies forever.

McCain scares me to death!!!

Anne   June 6th, 2008 11:51 am ET

Vote Obama or McCain. Writing in Hillary is pointless. She can't win. Vote based on your stance on the issues...not against someone else. If that means you agree with McCain's stance on the issues then so be it., but please let go of your anger (borderline hatred) towards Obama, he has done nothing to deserve that.

John in Virgina   June 6th, 2008 11:51 am ET

You hate war? Coulda fooled me!

Democrats who will rather vote for this thing are just too foolish.

Kurt C.   June 6th, 2008 11:51 am ET

He's right. War sucks. Appeasement is much worse, though, and he at least gets that.

Shirley-Ohio   June 6th, 2008 11:51 am ET

You hate war McCain, You hate war? We had enough people in congress voted no on the war it would have prompted a discussion among congress and everyone could have gotten all the facts and there would be no war because all of you intelligent people in congress with so much middle east experience would never have allowed this to happen. I am sorry for what happen to you and your father but you are another politian saying anything to be elected and that has to stop. It just has to stop. I have children and they have to live in this world long after I am gone and it has just got to change.

America has shown that nobody with no qualifications, no experience and a history of agitating for hate... can be given the Democratic nomination, over his more qualified opponent.

fair elections? What was unfair? And by the way – I think you are referring to fair PRIMARIES. There hasn't been an election yet.... And there is a huge difference.

And also, if you think John McCain and Hillary Clinton are the two options – you should examine John McCain's stances.

Then compare Hillary with Barack. They are almost identical in policy.

All this talk of voting for McCain instead of Obama because people are upset that Hillary lost is just ridiculous. Why would be shoot ourselves in the foot like that? Look at Obama vs. McCain's voting records and stances on the issues. HILLARY WOULD BE ASHAMED OF ANY OF HER SUPPORTERS WHO VOTED FOR MCCAIN INSTEAD OF OBAMA.

Well, The lesser of two evils has been picked and for me that is John McCain. I dont trust, Obama and I think he has a long way to go before he can earn that trust. He is not JFK and his policies will drive us farther into trouble. He is a lot of talk but I have seen no action from him, none whatsoever. I believe he will talk big and then that talk will end up falling through as he realizes that talk without actions is gonna be useless.

John McCain has not qualms about lieing. If he hated war as he says he does, he would not have voted for the war in Iraq, and subsequently voted to increase funding and prolong a war that will never have an end.

I don't understand why McCain is only talking about WAR even though the BIGGEST concern on people's mind at present is the economy. Well, I remember he once said "I don't understand economics very well", may be he is just choosing to talk about the only subject he knows best. I cann't blame him for that. What do you consider most important when you go to vote? well, think about that and "vote your hope, not your fear"

Ethan   June 6th, 2008 11:40 am ET

All people need to remember is, "maybe a hundred ." If McCain hated war, with all the experience he is bragging about, he should have known to clearly read the intelligence report before voting to send our troops off to Iraq.

McCain was a prision of war for five years; America has been a prision of the Bush administration for eight years.

How Old is he again?

Former republican   June 6th, 2008 11:36 am ET

mccain is a warmonger, period. He comes from a family that has embraced war for decades and over several generations.

This is the republicans latest attempt to convince the public, yet again, that we should stay in Iraq. They fooled the public in 2003 with the invasion, in 2004 with the reelection of the current warmonger, and are trying to fool America again now.

Mccain is their puppet for doing so.

Independent in Iowa   June 6th, 2008 11:34 am ET

McCain is a war hero. I have a great deal of respect for his service to our country. My brother is in the military and I support him 100%.

McCain also appeared on Ellen a couple of weeks ago – signaling to me that he is willing and able to put his opinions aside for the greater good of our country. Being a gay man, I was very pleased to see a Republican even show up on her show.

As a Clinton supporter, I wouldn't be opposed to voting for him. I'll wait and see how things turn out over the next few months.

John Smith   June 6th, 2008 11:34 am ET

I DO NOT think Edwards would ever want to serve on a ticket with Hillary. As you might have observed during the primaries, Edwards felt much closer to Obama than to Hillary. My sense is that Edwards, Obama, Byden, and most of the others simply DO NOT share the values of the Clintons. These people know the Clintons very well, and none has come out to support her. They will never serve on a ticket with her. I share in their values; thus, I will no longer support any Clinton in my life. The Clintons betrayed my trust and respect before they left office, and have continued to do the same!

enomisa   June 6th, 2008 11:34 am ET

The HRC supporters who are afraid of a WRITE in vote for Hillary, will have your back.

May Hillary or McCain win.

Yes we can!   June 6th, 2008 11:33 am ET

when you're willing to continue a war that should have not been approved, you are for war....it's not about "surrendering" or looking weak...you rather continue murder of thousands innocent iraqi lives and hundreds of our soldiers just to not be called a quitter?.....using his military history is not the best way to win over americans. we are tired of the useless war and loss of lives and permanently injured soldiers.....he hasn't said anything about a plan to end the war...only that we will stay until we win...hello, if you're stating the terrorist will NEVER go away, then we will NEVER WIN!

larry buchas   June 6th, 2008 11:33 am ET

Think again!

You are a warmonger! Otherwise you would stop acting like George W. Bush.

Progress can only made through diplomacy. That's something you warmongers can't agree with. I feel for General Petraeus. He has to do it all himself without any help from warmongers like George W. Bush or John mcCain.

John   June 6th, 2008 11:32 am ET

"Except when I love war and seek to use it for political gain."

P, CA   June 6th, 2008 11:32 am ET

Okay, so even if he was in a POW camp for a long time, he's from a warlike family. Most behaviors are imprinted before you're of military service age, so I tend to think he's actually FOR military actions because he saw his relatives serving and it made him "proud". No amount of torture will remove that.

Obviously, no one thinks war is a cakewalk and not too many people like it, but if he doesn't like war, why does he want an occupation in Iraq when there are so many other people that want to hurt us in other places???

JB   June 6th, 2008 11:32 am ET

Surviving as a POW shows you to be a survivor, but does not make you a great military strategist nor does it make you a great President.

I dont want "Change" I want results! Obama dosent have what it takes.

Perrell, Lincolnton, NC   June 6th, 2008 11:30 am ET

Okay now i see what he is trying to do, make people feel sorry for him. I am honored that his forefathers served this country as well as he did, but that does not make him the right choice for President. I say do not fall for the ploy that McCain is trying to pull here....
