Clinton communications director Howard Wolfson said Obama’s campaign can learn from their mistakes.
Clinton communications director Howard Wolfson said Obama’s campaign can learn from their mistakes.

(CNN) – Hillary Clinton’s communications director Howard Wolfson spoke about the New York senator’s failed presidential bid on CNN’s Late Edition - and acknowledged: “There are things that we would have done differently.”

“I think Barack Obama did a pretty good job of learning from whatever mistakes we made,” he told host Wolf Blitzer. “If his campaign wants to study ours and see what we did right and wrong, I'm sure they're going to do that.”

The outspoken adviser also defended the fact that Clinton waited until Saturday to give her concession speech.

“I know we live in the minute-by-minute media culture,” he said. “I think it's a little unrealistic and frankly unfair to expect somebody who's been running for president for 18 months and has done as well as Senator Clinton did – [she] was winning states in the last several months by 30, you know, 40 points to - on the last day of the primary - immediately come out and give a concession speech.”

Despite Wolfson’s admission that the campaign made some slip-ups, he insisted that not highlighting the history-making aspect of being the first female president was not one of them.

“It didn't seem to hurt our ability to get the votes of women who were Senator Clinton's strongest supporters. We overwhelmingly won the woman's vote in this race… African-Americans as a whole tended to vote for Senator Obama in overwhelming numbers, a great credit to him. But white women and Latinas did vote overwhelmingly for Senator Clinton, over 60 percent.”

And what about Wolfson’s immediate plans?

“I'm looking forward to a summer of some relaxation. I'll miss talking to you on a daily basis. But I'm going enjoy talking to my family more,” he said with a smile.

"We won't vote for Obama even if he WERE the savior of the World."

That's obvious. We all know it was never about the issues with you, but instead it was something of ignorance don't we? What's comical about that is that it proves you were never even a true supporter of Hillary's either.

the hype   June 8th, 2008 4:14 pm ET

People got swept away by the hype and lost their common sense.

But WHEN did HE win? I missed it. They were both right at the finish line.

By the end, the superdelegates had to carrry Obama across the finish line.

Even beating up on Hillary and swiftboating her and maligning her did not succeed in getting Obama solidly past 50%. Even Oprah and all the many celebrities singing all his praised did not do it.

MereMortal   June 8th, 2008 4:14 pm ET

I like these wonderful anti-Obama comments. Keep them coming, folks. We must not reward the Democratic Party with a win this time. Let's try to get a good nominee next time! We can handle McCain for four years.

Polly – Howard Dean, Dem Senators, and media bias made the Clinton campaign end up 20 million dollars in the hole? Did they make the country split the popular vote and give Obama 100+ more pledged delegates? Obama's campaign was ready for a war and Clinton's campaign was ready for a coronation. Thats the reason she lost.

Feel free to vote for whomever you want but, when the republicans are invading your uterus, destroying ur financial future and killing ur sons and daughters in Iraq, take refuge in knowing that you, atleast, were able to vote out of pride and bitterness.

ginny, wa   June 8th, 2008 4:11 pm ET

It seems to me that these Hillary supporters are ignoring her plea for them to support Obama so that democratic principles are protected - which they certainly would not be by the GOP.
Use some common sense before you vote - engage your brains rather than emotions.

INEQUITY--I would take your comment seriously if you had any proof (links perhaps) to anything you said. You need to step out of your emotional bubble and look at these things through a new perspective. Ask yourself:
Shouldn't Clinton have a better grasp of the nominating system that she helped her husband go through? She knew all about caucuses.
Did she care about the votes of FL and MI when she was in the lead? No.
Who sabotaged her?
You have never seen a hateful comment posted by a Clinton supporter? I have had many directed at me.

C T Wallace   June 8th, 2008 4:10 pm ET

How about the possibility that BO won simply because he's substantially more likeable that HRC, and has sufficient visible substance to allow the majority of dems to unconsciously gamble on his commander-in-chief capabilities? Actually, I think both processes would be unconscious.

Sheri   June 8th, 2008 4:10 pm ET

Hillary was not swiftboated as some may think. We love Hillary too, but Obama we loved also and we liked the message of CHANGE. They were both great. Obama had to suffer racism and Hillary had to suffer some sexism and it was fair game for both candidates Obama was never disrespectful to Hillary. Obama suffered the media a lot and so did Hillary . I think the media was fair. Look guys someone had to win!

Neutral   June 8th, 2008 4:10 pm ET

Her campaign hasn't failed, it was the DNC who SELECTED Obambi, going against the popular vote.

People don't matter to the DNC, money talks, Obambi spent a lot of money buying superdelegates. The Democratic Party should change their name to " PRESIDENT FOR SALE PARTY"

Monroe   June 8th, 2008 4:10 pm ET

She lost because she voted for the Iraq War. If she hadn't made that mistake (or calculation), no other candidate would have had a significant niche to fill. Clinton represented the Democratic Establishment and all the mistakes they've made during the Bush presidency, and Obama offered a good alternative to that.

jack   June 8th, 2008 4:10 pm ET

I want to thank Howard Wolfson for being such an idiot. Thank You! You helped sink(along with Bill) Hillary's chances for ever running for office again. Never again will we have to see her shame herself in front of voters telling LIES. Sniper fire? I have the lead in the popular vote? I'm ready to lead from day one? Only John McCain and I are the only ones qualified to be commander-in-cheif? This is not the type of person who deserves to be in the White House.

Hillary LOST not because she was a woman, but because she was the WRONG WOMAN. Women will be elected to the office of the President. But only when they come together and back a canidate who has INTEGRITY, HONESTY AND MORALITY. Then people will look at her as someone who can UNITE and LEAD. Hillary was never that person.

NEVER HILLARY   June 8th, 2008 4:09 pm ET

The Republican machine is creating campaign commercials of Hillary Clinton saying John McCain would make a better president than Obama, a statement which is still as detached from reality as it was back when it was made. Thanks, Hillary. I will never vote for a ticket with Hillary on it, so Obama better not pick her as VP. I've also suspended campaign donations until I am sure the pick is someone else.

NEVER FORGIVE, NEVER FORGET.

TL   June 8th, 2008 4:07 pm ET

Mr Wolfson, you ran a good campaign, I congratulate you, the failure came from the incompetence of Howard Dean, the enthusism of the backstabber senators Nancy Pelosi , John Kerry, Chris Dodd, and others in the democratic party to bring Hillary down so they can crown prince Hussein with the nomination, the biases in the press like CNN and MSNBC/NBC.

Please explain how these people, in your eyes, are "backstabbers." As an Obama supporter, I am genuinely interested in your perspective because I don't see it that way but am intrigued to find out why you do. Is it that you saw this as "Hillary's turn" in the typical political food chain? Please explain (don't get defensive, let's dialogue).

Miguel Gomez   June 8th, 2008 4:07 pm ET

Let's not forget the role of the media in all this: They got what they set on doing since the very beginning: to take the Clintons out, THEY SUCCEEDED, for now anyways. isn't it just a little too suspicious that in the last 72 hours I have read the best reviews of Hillary from CNN collaborators and other commentators ever? where were all these people before? Of course, CNN and other media outlets would never let these comments out until they were sure she was out of the game. Now, it's time to take on the other Clinton, let's make sure he gets all the blame or at least let's make sure he doesn't attempt to come out at all. GOOD JOB MEDIA, the so called 4th power really showed its might this time.

bobby   June 8th, 2008 4:07 pm ET

The beauty of democracy is to allow everybody the freedom of speach and decision and this does not exclude the high ranking officials of DNC.They have made decision based on their best judgement and i think we should be civilised enough to respect their decisions and not to call them names. Even as we may openly disagree with their decision we must must respect their inalienable rights to make those decisions

Why do the Obama supporters continue to slug mud in Hillary's path? Being gracious is obviously NOT something that Obama supporters understand. I find it appauling that every time Clinton stories show up, the Obama camp supporters continue spewing their hatred. Unfortunately for them, they don't realize that they NEED HILLARY SUPPORTERS to WIN this election!

Hoang – I take it that your major at Cal isn't political science – otherwise you'd know that in voting for president, party really does trump candidate. The victor of a presidential election installs his – or one day soon, her – party apparatus to populate the entire executive branch of government. Every office, appointment and policy of the victors' party becomes an extension of the party; hence, it would be absurd to expect a Democratic president to institute Republican policies or appoint "conservative" judges. It would be similarly absurd to expect John McCain to advance an agenda that wouldn't give Hillary nightmares. Your promised vote for her will serve only those you seem to oppose. Good luck with your studies.

Gene   June 8th, 2008 4:04 pm ET

I'm sick and tired of hearing that the media caused Hillary to lose. True.. there were stations that were totally for Obama.. but there were also stations totally pro-clinton. On one hand you have anderson cooper 360 who usually was pro-Obama.. but still reported every controversy. You had programs like Glenn Beck who continually trash Obama and try to scare you away from Voting for him. You have Fox News who loved Hillary and trashed Obama every step of the way... even created some false controversy.

Blaming the media is a one sided excuse. in the end Hillary lost because she was two-faced. She was sweet to Obama in front of him.. and the next day would slam him with Mud. Though Obama's supporters here on these blogs could be rude.. he always encouraged people not to drag this campaign down. And in he end,... Hillary lost because the majority of the dem's just simply didn't see her as trustworthy. Yes, Majority... that means that it's not everyone.. it's a broad statement to a broad audience :) The problem is Obama was always forced to answer for what everyone else did... not for what he did or said himself.

Mike in Mickleton   June 8th, 2008 4:04 pm ET

Hillary is the rallying point around which many of us(myself included) want to turn the country around upon. We have lost our chance to have her as nominee for this election, but can she not try again in 2012? All of us who support her should not trash her reputation by dousing her party with insults, she supports obama and tells us to do the same, i say if we truley believe she is the champion of the people, then we should listen to her.

David, UC Davis   June 8th, 2008 4:04 pm ET

Obama is clearly the most qualified for the job. A great David and Gliath story that will live forever in American history. Obama will run the country as he did his campaign. Join the force and save America's soul. Obama is the JFK of my generation. Viva America!

Republican Trolls are out in force, pretending to be "lifeling democrats" and sowing seeds of hatred and fear because that is ALL THEY CAN DO.

A poll taken before Hillary's concession shows 65% of Hillary voters still voting for Obama and only 17% for McCain...and thats mere days after the race was over.

Don't let paid trolls fool you, Hillary and Obama voters stand together for values.

NO MORE HATE, NO MORE FEAR, NO MORE NEGATIVITY.

The Hillary defeat will go down as the biggest CHOKE by any politician .... EVER! Going into to this she had everything : Name recognition, wife of a popular ex-president, two term Senator, cash flowing into her coffers on a daily basis, "Ready Day One" with her 35,000 years of experience, the Inevitable Candidate, No Worries, just bring on the Republican challenger!

They will be writing books about this for years to come about one of the worst campaigns ever run. The second-guessing, the excuses, the downplaying of Obama's wins as he wracked up the delegates, the backroom hysterics, the gnashing of teeth, the finger-pointing will go on for a very, very, very long time ..........

In an unrelated story, the Boston Red Sox beat the New York Yankees today 10 – 11. George Steinbrenner refused to concede the game to the Reds, protesting that the sportswriters and the umpires had a prejudice against ship builders. He said, "This is so unfair. We made 10 cracks in the steel ceiling that has always held shipbuilders back against the ever lasting biases that have been held agains us since Noah built that ark thingey.

He said he would like a couple of weeks to "consider his options, and felt like this should be his time." He did say he would be willing to consider accepting the position of "Co-Winner" if Red Sox management offered it to him". Immediately, ship builders around the world began a petition drive to secure his position.

I am amazed some of Hillary supporters think that the election was some how taken from her. They actually think she was entitled to the nomination just because her name is Clinton.

For the last time she lost because she ran a bad campaign and he ran a better one. As far as I am concerned the DNC went far above the call of duty to accomodate Clinton by including MI and FL. It is not as if no one knew does states would not count at the begining of the election.

so Clinton supporters grow up and stop acting like bunch of teenagers. or a bunch of idol worshipers.

sam   June 8th, 2008 4:02 pm ET

You can analyze ,whichever you want , at end of the day people decided whom they want to be their candidate from this party. People who voted for other candidate (Hillary Clinton ) have to decide , whom tthey are going to vote for, to meet country need first and their need later, if you voted Hillary Clinton , then you will hard time to vote for Republican candidate , and so you endup voting for Obama. If do not do this , then you are just voting for fun and screwup real election.

The people want her   June 8th, 2008 4:02 pm ET

Come on, guys....stop pretending... EVERYone of power decided it was the year for Obama- and they pummeled and beat and piled on Clinton.

NO MALE candidate could have withstood a similar attack from ALL directions.

No one now doubts that she is the stronger and better leader. He was propped by so many and she was throttled by an equal many.

Who was running stronger in the end?

We are not fools. We know what you all did. You conspired together and KILLED the warrior. And now try to analyze where SHE went wrong for not going DIRTY in response?

She is more a hero now than every before.

Hillary you have Bill to thank! Leave him at home next time.

TL   June 8th, 2008 4:01 pm ET

Different TL here...Although I think that some of HRC's followers/supporters are delusional in the extent to which they blame sexism and other biases for her failures, as opposed to acknowledging any role she played in it, I think the supporters of both HRC and BHO need to take a closer look at their own perspectives and stop bickering. In the long run, I think that what appears to be division can be a benefit us all in the long run if people are willing to sit down and talk out their differences (and similarities) like MATURE ADULTS...of course, that might be asking a lot...

I do agree as well with the poster who pointed the near-hypocrisy of people who say Obama won because of the Black vote while overlooking the support Hillary got from women and Latino/as, not to mention low income and less-educated whites (many of whom said race was indeed a factor in their voting–which Hillary never did "reject and denounce" ), as standard.

Remember Kids: always look both ways before you cross the "blame street"–but you're always welcome on the other side. The light is green :o )

I am an Obama supporter who feels that Hillary delivered a beautiful, heartfelt speech. Unlike some Obama bloggers, I have the utmost respect and affection for Hillary supporters, and look forward to working together in common cause this Fall.
While I deplore and condemn the disrespect shown by some Obama bloggers, I remain perplexed that, no matter what Obama says or does, for some Hillary supporters he is ALWAYS AND FOREVER, "vile and hateful." If he issued a statement saying, "I hereby give the nomination to Hillary and I recognize that she is superior to me in every way," the blogosphere would be filled with HRC supporters saying, "I can't believe the vile and hateful way he ceded the nomination to her. What arrogance!"
Maybe he should just wander off and die. Or would that be too "arrogant?

What?   June 8th, 2008 3:58 pm ET

Bill Clinton finally had the nerve to speak the truth:

Never has any candidate been SO DISRESPECTED just for running.

We have had some crappy men. Finally one great woman... and the attacks are on.

Obama benefitted from encouraging those attacks.

Michell Obama has been nothing but hateful towards Hillary. She even publicly stated she would not vote for her.

Well .... see how it works?

No More Clintons, CA   June 8th, 2008 3:57 pm ET

The name of Clinton, the attitude of entitlement, playing the game in the wrong field, shamelessly changing game rules, lies, disorganization, overspending and wasting campaign donation funds all contributed to the failed campaign.

Thank God, she is not going to lead the country.

No VP to the Clintons!

Say NO to the 3 Chennys/clintons in Obama administration!

Henry Haider   June 8th, 2008 3:56 pm ET

Hillary's camp did a wonderful and great job but it was Obama's camp which did better, so Obama won. Similarly as sportsmen do, we must acknowledge the results and move on. The primary is over and now we go for the finals.
Ask yourself if you were a democrat would you want Repulican to be the Commander in Chief and President? Ask yourself who could led our country out of the present situation boldly and re-create our worldwide image, then vote. It does not make sense to cut off your nose just to get even.
God bless America and its voters.

I'm from Germany and I've been following this elections very closely because I truly love your country and the people. But what I do not understand is that some of Clinton's supporters refuse to endorse Obama. don't you understand that this absolutely not repectful towards your candidates. It is not about you or Clinton or Obama but it is about YOUR country, about your YOUR future. Some are really are acting like kids. voting for republicans is not fair towards Hillary Clinton. So if you are true fan of her be respectful to her and endorse Obama. Think about just like adult people.

Hillary herself was the reason. She's not the paragon she's made out to be.

Experience claims were grossly overstated, except for her time in the Senate. Lack of truthfulness in general was a problem. Unlikability was a problem. Support for Iraq War was a problem. Taking too much money for corporate donors was a problem. The mistakes of her campaign managers were her fault as well, because those mistakes resulted from her domineering, top-down, autocratic nature.

Victor, NJ   June 8th, 2008 3:53 pm ET

reading some of these blogs shows how the U.S is no longer the envy of every nation. It explains how bush who would go down as the worst president in history got to serve two terms. How can you not vote for a candidate with issue which you agree with out of spite. I am amazed how the election has become a popularity contest rather than the progress of the nation.

Hilliary lost because she ran a very negative campaign. I'm sure throughout the general we will still see Hilliary vicious dirty remarks she made about her fellow democrat. By the way Hilliary supporters...she did not get the popular vote...only if she excludes Obama from ever a single vote in Michigan and not count all the st ates that had caucus...you won't even believe the truth when it is even coming out of the Clinton camp...how pathetic to vote for someone just because she is a woman...I thought the policies that a candidate has should be what you judge a person on. Remember...there are 18,000,000 plus Obama supporters...its not all about you and Hilliary.

Some of you supporters sound obssesed with Hilary. Look how you sound! There was no cheating. I believe that HRC was the one who said that MI and FL didn't even matter. But when she started losing and getting behind thats when she made a big deal about the votes. Below it all out of proportion. How come you choose not to look at that? Come on people stop this and grow up. I really feel sorry for you short minded people living in the old times. Today is a new day.
Grow up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Vote McCain and we die. I can see this country dying......The War will never end and this country will go down in the gutter. Blame your hatred and prejudiceness.

HRC was never miss treated. You are just made because you didn't get your way. Lets be real you'd rather see a white woman than a black man. You are mad because she didn't beat him. No you wanna holler that Obama cheated. Please. He played it fair and she didn't.

enomisa   June 8th, 2008 3:51 pm ET

She was WINNING....

So the Democrats, the DNC with the help of the media, sabotaged her to eliminate her and give it to Obama.

Did he EVER win the minimum number of pledged delegates that the RULES require? NO HE DID NOT.

They could have dragged her across the finish line just as easily as they dragged him.

But RACE trumps GENDER.

BRO BEFORE HO was their nasty, sexist slogan. And so it was.

Dan Wirick   June 8th, 2008 3:50 pm ET

The news media got Obama elected. They never shut up about Obama being the first black American, giving the blacks all the reason to vote for Obama. He got at least 50% more freecoverage than Clinton.
Next reason: If the whites were as prejudice as the blacks Obama would never have been elected.
These are the reasons and the only reasons Obama beat Clinton, the news media doesn't have the balls to print the truth, nor does the Democrats.
Every senator that backed Obama will get all the black votes next election, again dancing around the truth..

Im sick of how Hillary supporters keep on saying the race was unfair and bla bla bla, this is how the race has occured for the last dozen primaries. And people saying the democratic party was agains Hillary is just stupid since Hillary only lost the majority of superdelegates in the last few weeks of the race when it was clear that Barack Obama would win! and the media wasent pro-Obama. the media made a fuz about everything involving Obama! he won fair and square! GET OVER IT!

JT, AZ   June 8th, 2008 3:48 pm ET

2) Being HRC

Roger in the Virginia Valley   June 8th, 2008 3:46 pm ET

I didnt much like Wolfson, I especially didnt like it when asked a questsion he would not answer the question but turn it into a Hillary commercial. Maybe thats what he was paid to do. He supported Hillary no matter what and for that he deserves credit. Nevertheless, I dont much care for him. I hope he has a great summer relaxing with his family. One final comment, he was not nearly as bad as Lanny Allen?.

Belle   June 8th, 2008 3:46 pm ET

Unfortunately, I think Clinton's top strategist should have been canned a lot sooner that he was. He is the one that put together the strategy of front runner.

You could tell Hillary was uncomfortable with that role. It was only AFTER Cinton was able to be herself, that she started winning states by huge margins....

Unfortunately, the Press did not do their job. They got so wrapped up in race, gender, and Wright, that they never vetted Obama.

I am still waiting for explanations about Rezko, and he may very well turn into a bigger bomb than Wright ever could have been.

Mantan   June 8th, 2008 3:45 pm ET

She failed because she under estimated Obama, and that worked to his advantage. Face it Obama is smarter than Hillary and Bill Clinton put together.

What happened Howard, couldn't pull another race ad out your back pocket in time?

Hillary lost because of poor planning, lies and unqualified staff. Her STAFF should have corrected her on some of those lies rather than trying to cover it up with race baiting. Bosnia will NOT be forgotten, especially to those American Soldiers KILLED by sniper fire.

Next time try telling the truth, it obviously works for other candidates. And next time try running a primary race in primary season and be honest about the 10 Million Dollar man Penn, he got paid for NOTHING!

Enjoy your summer and tell your family I said hello.

CNN probably won't print this, but. . .

When we fight each other and descend back into name-calling, we are fulfilling the dreams of the MSM. They thrive on conflict and controversy.

If you want to fight, fight McCain. If you want controversy, talk about how we're going to avoid another depression. Stop being distracted by the media side-show.

Brian Knoxville, TN   June 8th, 2008 3:43 pm ET

Josh, New Mexico–fair enough, but don't blame Howard Wolfson. Blame Mark Penn. The failed strategy was his. Howard, you have done a great job! Thank you for all your hard work.

Voting Obama   June 8th, 2008 3:43 pm ET

You know its real funny how some of you people are. I like that comment how someone said the media drooled over Obama.Please. Come up with something better than that. He has touched many people and you can't even give him any credit. Some people need to stop with all their hatred and come together for this country. HRC is well respected but lets keep it real. She ran a dirty campaign! She threw everything but the kitchen sink at Obama and he still speaks humble about that woman. I am still a HRC supporter but now its time to back Obama. Why because I know that he is the best thing for my future. I think alot of her supporters are prejudice and that needs to stop. It is getting old now. McSame is not any better. I think alot of you just don't want to see Obama in office because of your prejudiceness and if that is the case GOD please forgive them. McSame is going to take this country down. If you vote for him, only point the finger at yourself when you can't afford to live and lose your job.

Hatred needs to stop. Obama speaks for himself. Some of you say you can't see yourself voting for him, ask yourself why? What President has experience!! Look at what Bush did to this country!! And you want to put his twin back in? Grow up and stop that BS people.

No, I won't miss this animal. The only thing the Obama campaign could "learn" from him is deception and dirty politics.

WE all failed her in favor of Obama   June 8th, 2008 3:38 pm ET

She did nothing wrong.

She was always clearly the best.

But manipulation of the public with the help of the media works. Then when the party and the DNC and the Superdelegates chose between AAs and youth and Older lifelongs and women.

They gambled wrong that the youth and blacks would defect, but not the lifelongs and women.

They were wrong. We have no more loyalty to the party that betrayed HRC, than blacks had. We will go, they will stay.

I didn't vote for Clinton but you guys need to stop saying she failed. What she and Obama has done is incredible despite the bitterness that has come out of it. Which I am beginning to think is superficial and maybe has been created. In anycase I think in the long run it has transform the party, for the better.

I don't really think they necessarily failed except not having a real plan after February 5. Maybe people are really just ready for something new. Someone who is not a Washington insider. I feel that Senator Clinton's campaign got less gracious and thoughtful at the end, but I am glad to see that she is now putting the Democractic party ahead of her own ambitions. I hope Democrats will now take a good look at Obama, and come to the realization that his stance on issues are very close to Clinton's. McCain should not be an option for any true Democrat that looks at the issues!!

spencer   June 8th, 2008 3:35 pm ET

The only reason she lost is because of you the biased new media..You guys never gave her a serious, you put her down constantly and criticized everything she said or did..I do not blame her or her campaign for losing the election, it was you the media that lost her the election.

enomisa   June 8th, 2008 3:34 pm ET

SHE did nothing wrong. She had grace and poise and actually went negative LESS than he did.

But... it is all perception, not truth. He is the imposter.

His supporters had more hate than her supporters.

We did not expect so much nasty, mean-spirited, vitriolic name-calling and insults. NOT in the democratic party. Not from the campaign of unity, hope and change.

Also Obama let his campaign call her a racist. He himself labeled her as an old style washington insider and warmonger.

I agree with Wolfson. Is was frankly unfair to expect her to give a concession speech. I was dissapointed by CNN's coverage that night. A panel set up of Obama supporters and supposedly neutral journalists (not one H.C. rep) attack her that night because she didn't give a concession speech.

Dave G   June 8th, 2008 3:29 pm ET

To all who are considering voting for McCain, not voting, or writing in Hillary's name in November, please know that this will hurt Hillary Clinton. If she is perceived (rightly or wrongly) as dividing the party and losing the November election to McCain, then her power and influence as a Senator and future candidate will diminish.

At this point, the best thing we can do for Hillary is to do what she says and vote for Obama in November.

On the other hand, if you think another 8 years of war in Iraq would be a good thing, then go ahead and vote for McCain.

BJ   June 8th, 2008 3:28 pm ET

I feel that, until the press and media, as well as the DNC and Obama surrogates/supporters & campaign admit that they ganged up and bullied Hillary, there will not be any closure for Hillary supporters.

The fact that they even criticized her for not conceding on that Tuesday, is proof of these tactics. Pelosi and Dean ordering her to end it by June, the media pundits' reaction, and Obama et al's anger that she did not end it there.

Until ALL the above is resolved and apologized for, nothing is moving forward. They just need to acknowledge they did what they did, and apologize for it...simple enough, but never going to happen.

Mike in Mickleton   June 8th, 2008 3:28 pm ET

You can't fault the man, he helped the Clinton camp run a good clean race and now he is helping the camp to concede the race just as good and just as clean. My compliments to Wolfson for doing so, if Obama does win in Novemeber, he may seriously want to take a look at atleast reccomending Wolfson to some job in his government, if not naming him to one.

Daniel   June 8th, 2008 3:28 pm ET

My grandmother told me stories how she march for the cause of women to vote. She was very active. It was the 19th Adm. of 1920. I found this quote from Susan B. Anthony which stated no self respecting woman should wish or work for success of a party that ignores her. I am no longer a Democrat.

Glenda Komenac   June 8th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

As the self-proclaimed leader of the free world, America is far behind when it comes to women in government. Many nations currently have female leaders, including Germany, New Zealand, Chile, Finland, and the Phillipines, and many others, even Muslim countries have elected female leaders. The USA ranks very low in female representation in legislature; even China, Iraq and Afghanistan do better. Why is that?

janey   June 8th, 2008 3:25 pm ET

First, the Obamabots blame Clinton supporters for dividing the party–now they are trying to blame poor ole Rush Limbaugh! Why don't you Obama people place the blame where it belongs–on you and your fearless "leader"? His greed for power and that of the democratic party leaders knows no bounds. Please do not insult my intelligence by telling me I should support Obama. He stands for nothing that I believe in! I am educated, am not bitter, and I do own a gun and go to church. All of these things are against Obama's ideals. Oh, I am also not a "victim" like Michelle and Barrack. Only hard-working and optimistic, but do not believe that "hope" will pay my bills–( I am also not a republican). McCain is moderate–best bet–if no Clinton.

Obama Supporter   June 8th, 2008 3:24 pm ET

It doesn't matter if the HRC supporters don't support Obama. There are 18+ million who voted for Obama too. And this summer there are graduates from High School and College that know a lot better about McCain and his tactics and 72% of these new voters wil be voting for Obama in November.

So, I am working hard to promote my candidate Barack Obama for president. I will not allow any negative Gaffe from HRC supporters or McCain grunters persuade me otherwise. You Republicans are playing dirty and we Democrats are going to clean house with you.

Obama/Dems 2008-2016

Watermann   June 8th, 2008 3:23 pm ET

In my country, Germany, the defeated party concedes the same day. By the way, the Tuesday speech of senator Clinton has surely not been prepared in one or two hours after the last primaries or shortly after the polls have been closed. Everybody knew at that time that Senator Obama will be the presumptive nominee. This speech has been a tactical manoeuvre as well as the "suspending" of her campaign. Telling the truth is not a political attitude, however understandable.

Grace   June 8th, 2008 3:23 pm ET

It would be really stupid for Hillary's theme to White House would be " the first FEMALE president". It would not make any different in coutcome. One could sense her entitlement back to the White House.

She lost because she was not prepared to be challenged by a junior, minority senator at all & her team & advisors were too invincible in addition to a walking time bomb of Bill. Nothing to do with her being a FEMALE candidate.

Unbelievable   June 8th, 2008 3:21 pm ET

I actually felt that Sen Clinton absolutely did highlight her "accomplishments" as a woman and she did everything she could to appeal to women voters. Having people like Geraldine Ferraro come out and accuse Obama of only getting where he is because of his race and of sexism was just one of those ways that she divided the electorate. She blatantly said working whites are for me and Obama is having trouble with these voters. How is that not using race and gender? I am a little frustrated with all of the talk about the media being biased against her. From the start the media anointed her as the inevitable nominee and they ran the rev Wright clips 24/7 for 10 days straight. There was also collective amnesia about all of the Clinton scandals from their time in the white house, many of which she was right in the middle of. She was aloud to take credit for all of the successes of Bill Clinton's presidency while not having to take credit for it's failures. NAFTA comes to mind. Her appearing to tear up in an interview just before the NH primary was just another example of how she used her gender to appeal to women and it was very effective.

m.c.   June 8th, 2008 3:19 pm ET

There was nothing wrong with the campaign, and certainly everything good about the candidate. The DNC decided, at least in 2004, when they had Obama give that speech at the convention, that they were going to push him forward. They railroaded the caucuses in Iowa and then tried to get Hillary to leave the campaign, AFTER ONE SILLY CAUCUS!!! How stupid is the Democratic Party, to have this flawed system??? Gee, maybe that's why we pick losers except for Bill Clinton. Even Kennedy would not have gotten a second term, I truly believe. I've been a Democrat for forty years, but no more. I am now a Republican for good, they've chosen a Centrist, they feel the mood of the country. We want change, but not right, OR left. If Hillary can still somehow be the nominee, then she will have my vote. She will ALWAYS have my vote!!!!

It ended with the superdelegates dragging a limping and bleeding Obama across the finish line to hide the fact that he did not get the minimum number of pledged delegated.

It was the unfairness- why NOT take it to the convention, like the white guys of primaries past got to do?

Why not wait until the convention for the superdelegates to weigh in?

Now we are stuck with a dictator to be- who rallies the youth to new levels of antipathy against fellow democrats.

Clinton did not have "failed" campaign. She was set-up to fail by news organizations such as Clinton Nemesis News (CNN) -with it's Hillary hating commentaries and the rest of the sexist smear campaign while Obama was made into some god-send. Hell can freeze over before this Democratic will vote for BO. True Blue's for Hillary will write her in on the November ballot and right the wrongs.

Dean   June 8th, 2008 3:16 pm ET

I wonder why these so-called Democrats who are claiming that Obama's supporters are why they won't vote for him haven't considered that perhaps Republicans have been playing both sides of the fence – posting as Obama suppoters *and* Clinton supporters trying to stir up a fight... for exactly this purpose.

If you vote McCain for this reason, you are condoning such Republican tactics – again!!!!!!!!

Media frenzy to kill   June 8th, 2008 3:15 pm ET

Fools fell for the folly of the Phantom of the Oprah.

POLLY   June 8th, 2008 3:15 pm ET

Mr Wolfson, you ran a good campaign, I congratulate you, the failure came from the incompetence of Howard Dean, the enthusism of the backstabber senators Nancy Pelosi , John Kerry, Chris Dodd, and others in the democratic party to bring Hillary down so they can crown prince Hussein with the nomination, the biases in the press like CNN and MSNBC/NBC.

That broght me to a decision, I changed my voter registration from democrat to Indepedent. I can no longer support this party of corruption, they will no longer get one cent of my hardworking money, and all I can say is, what is 4 more years.

I hope Mr. Wolfson has a wonderful vacation with his family and comes back rested and ready to continue. Whatever he decides to do, I'm sure that he will do a fantastic job. Thank you Mr. Wolfson for your dedication, support and strength with the Hillary Clinton campaign. As a supporter of Senator Clinton's, she earned my respect, support and dedication a long time ago. She is a fighter, she is intelligent, she is strong and most importantly, SHE IS A PHENOMINAL WOMEN!!!!

Thank you Mr. Wolfson for supporting and working for "our" Hillary and congratulations on a job well done!!

Wolfson-you and your staff are a huge bunch of idiots--you had a 20-30 point lead at one time and blew it-a 3 year old could have seen that you had the wrong message which means your pollster did a terrible job-and not to have a caucus strategy is unforgivable-

In every sport I've ever watched, if a team had a huge lead and blew it, it was the coach that got dumped-

What about an openly obvious anti-Clinton crusade by the Party (Dean, Pelosi, Richardson) , the DNC, the pundits, the Obama team, the MSM and all the crazed but vitriolic new democrats that Obama inspired to extremes of bigotry and hate.

The vicious name-calling and internet attacks against fellow Democrats. And The Clintons being called racists early on to sway a key demographic didn't help her any.

the propaganda message (of divisive form ) of unity from the Obama camp.

Forced message of desire for change 24/7.

TL   June 8th, 2008 3:12 pm ET

Among all things, the biggest mistake the Clinton team made was consistently belittling Obama from day one. The sad part is that even up to this day, the team and their supporters are still thinking that Obama does not deserve to be the norminee of the party. The way they try to elbow Obama to take Clinton as VP is totally disrespectful.

Also, when they tried to repeat their talking points as facts over and over again and thinking that people will buy it. That totally turned the reasonable people off.

jimmy   June 8th, 2008 3:12 pm ET

With all due respect, I am not sure there is anything the Obama campaign can or would want to learn from from the Clinton campaign; with all the mistakes, the grumbling , bad management and drama that it was.

martin   June 8th, 2008 3:11 pm ET

hillarys campaign was as poorly ran as hillary and bills mouths.the biggest change i've seen ,already ,in this campaign,is the fact that the person who ran their campaign honorably, actually won.obama never trounced on the tons of baggage the clintons carry, and he stuck to the issues ,when not defending himself and his wife ,from personal attacks ,by both mccain and clinton.i'm starting to regain my faith in this country and 'i feel a change a coming'.

Hoang, UC Berkeley   June 8th, 2008 3:07 pm ET

Many Obama supporters have bashed Hillary's for deciding to stay home, write in Hillary's name on the ballots, or even vote for McCain. The thing is that you don't understand. This is a Presidential Election. You don't vote for a party; you vote for a president. It does not matter whether Obama is from the Democratic Party, nor does he have similar plans with Hillary. WHEN YOU VOTE FOR A PRESIDENT, YOU VOTE FOR THE PERSON YOU TRUST, YOU VOTE FOR THE PERSON YOU THINK THAT WILL DO THE BEST JOB, YOU VOTE FOR THE PERSON WHO CAN LEAD THE COUNTRY, AND FINALLY BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY YOU VOTE FOR THE PERSON WHO THINKS FAST AND ACTS FAST TO PROTECT YOU WHEN AN EMMERGENCY OCCURS. As a typical Hillary's supporter, I DON'T THINK AND DON'T BELIEVE THAT OBAMA IS THAT PERSON. I'm gonna write in Hillay anyway. I'M NOT VOTING FOR A PARTY; I'M VOTING FOR A PRESIDENT.

Anony-mouse   June 8th, 2008 3:07 pm ET

There are still some Clinton supporter (or perhaps Repubs in sheeps clothing) who are claiming that Obama's campaign was sexist and racist. They point to the African-American votes as evidence.

What people should realize is that while Obama did capture a significant percentage of African-American votes, Clinton captured a significant percentage of women's and Latino's votes. So, if Obama's campaign was sexist and racist, then, by definition, so was Clinton's.

So, I think people need to get past their anger and frustration and just vote for who they think embodies their beliefs and principles. Voting against someone for spite is just stupid. Nobody learns anything, and you don't get what you really wanted.

Therefore, if you believe in what Hillary was campaigning for, then you have to choose which candidate more closely matches that – and vote for him (or, write in Hillary – that would make much more sense than voting against someone out of spite).

Inequity   June 8th, 2008 3:05 pm ET

How about unfairness, cheating, caucus, disenfranchised voters, race-card playing, an Obama celebrity fest, a pro-Obama and anti-Hillary media.

Sabotage by her own party. Hatred and vile vulgar personal attacks: HO? Bi–ch, ? anyone- from Obama supporters and the media.

Richardson openly spewing his anti-Clinton hatred.

Media twisting all thing Clinton into negative and all things Obama into HISTORICAL proportions.

Now watch it backfire when the DEMS lose in Nov. We won't vote for Obama even if he WERE the savior of the World.

Venus   June 8th, 2008 3:04 pm ET

Nice to see this guy leave as well!

Why would Obama team want to look at what Hillary's team did regarding the primary? They are still stuck in the dark ages and thank God Obama didn't select them!

Bias   June 8th, 2008 3:01 pm ET

Hatred from democrats against fellow democrats did it... and a media that drooled over Obama while spitting at Hillary.

No secret   June 8th, 2008 3:00 pm ET

She lost because her party failed her just to advantage the other candidate and because the media dared not trash Obama, but Clinton was fair game.

You all swiftboated her.

The new democrats have brought in an element of hatred and vile and vulgar personal attacks against fellow democrats.

Obama rode that agitated wave of hatred while proclaiming unity.

Sorry... propaganda and hypocrisy is lost on us life long voters. We see right through it. We marched and protested and got beaten in the 1960s- just to work against that kind of thing.

Now the hate returns and is fed to us as change, hope and unity?

Sorry sorry DEMS.

Hillary... I adore you and will always vote for you anywhere and anytime. You are the true dignified champion leader of the people.
