Sen. Barack Obama goes for a bike ride in Chicago, Illinois, on Sunday.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Barack Obama joined family and neighbors for a
bicycle ride along the shores of Lake Michigan on Sunday.

Obama, who last week claimed the Democratic presidential nomination, capped his victory with a quiet, long weekend at home in Chicago.

The Illinois senator and his wife, Michelle, rode to a neighbor's house with their daughters, Malia and Sasha, on Sunday and the group then headed out for the ride along the scenic lake
shore. But the outing was cut short by a downpour.

Obama's brief respite from the campaign was scheduled to end Monday with a speech in Raleigh, North Carolina, and an evening fundraiser in St. Louis. The speech will launch a two-week tour of the country
focused on economic issues.

I honestly think that no matter what Barack does, there will always be those few people, who will find something to criticize him for. (I truly believe that most of the naysayers on this blog are Republicans trying to make fools out of the Democrats.) Barack is simply taking a much deserved time out with his family to have a simple bike ride and it is once again criticize time. I would hope that Sen. Clinton is taking some well deserved time off! So to all those who have nothing better to do than find fault, I say, GET A LIFE!

Yes, tell us, CNN- why does a picture of Obama on a bike need a comments section? What can anyone say, pro-Obama or anti-Obama, about a picture like this? Does it serve any function other than as an invitation for people to hurl stupid insults at him (or eachother?)

CNN seems all to eager to stir up the pot and get people shouting. Maybe getting so many "hits" on the site is good for advertising. But it's not good for the electorate, or the election.

Guess he is waiting on a call from the Kennedy Clan to tell him what his next move should be.

You know I want a guy who is running for President to work harder than I do.

MD   June 8th, 2008 6:42 pm ET

Go Barack Go!

Obama eminds me so much of the hope and euphoria that blancketed the country when JFK was running for presidency.

I hope Americans of all walks of life can put their prejudices aside and recognize the need for change in Washington.

WONDERFUL… the Obama family needs some R&R for a change. Sen. Obama needs some time with his little girls. They've been without him during the primary race and it's NICE to see them get some "family" time for a change.

NO ONE can imagine how much pressure this puts on a family with small children. I think we get so caught up with the Media "spin and frenzie" that we forget they are a FAMILY with small children.

Good for them, I'm glad they were able to get out and spend some time together even if they had Secret Service, etc. following them.

I like that he is involved in everyday things like playing hoops and biking with his family. This guy has his feet firmly planted on earth.

This isn't anything I'll bet you would see the McCain's doing. I have always wondered why Mrs. McCain always walks behind John and rarely says anything. It is like he doesn't want her upstaging him.

Is John McCain's first wife still alive? Does he support her? Did they have children together? I have only seen one daughter on the campaign and I think she is Cindy's offspring.

Spend as much time as you can with your family, Senator Obama. You will have a hectic campaign schedule as you try to encourage the electorate to vote for you in the General Election. Family time is time very well spent. Enjoy it. Your daughters are lovely young ladies, maybe someday they will run for President of the United States of America, just like Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton did. Be Blessed.

Proud American   June 8th, 2008 5:59 pm ET

June   June 8th, 2008 5:59 pm ET

I just love it that we may have a President who IS a NERD! Yeah…like a man who has read A BOOK and IS smart, and DOES take pride in his own education. I've been looking at a President who or EIGHT years has almost bragged about barely getting "C" grades and I'm saddened by that.
I think the message Obama will send to our young people is :::::: stay in school and do what you can to get good grades so that you can succeed and make something of your lives! I think this is especially true in how this will relate to the African-American community and the young people in those communities who feel the only things they have to look forward to are gangs, street violence, and drug addiction. Obama is a man who says, "shut off the television and READ to your kids once in awhile!" and that's a refreshing CHANGE!

OBAMA & EDWARDS ANYONE??

Capt. Smash, Salt Lake City, Utah   June 8th, 2008 5:46 pm ET

We have a president that sent 4100 troops to there death with faulty and fabricated intelligence. This should be the number one story on CNN and every other channel across America. It is sad to see that the journalism in this country has lost the meaning of responsibility to the American people. 4100 troops are dead in from the Iraq War; and know one cares mainly because the media has made it that way. Bush sent them and McCain voted to back Bush this is the real story.

Can we move on now with some responsible journalism.

Bama can go on biking the rest of the campaign for all I care. I am shocked that he thinks that I will go giddy and prance back to some
imaginary un-natural liberal roots if he taps Hillary for the Vice Presidential slot. Let's not forget Obama's real name is Barack Hussein Obombus.

Yes, Obombus is a natural disaster ready to happen. He is weak, womanly and certainly not versed in the necessary military and economics issues that this country needs to pave the way into this threshold of the 21st century.

Hussein's tax policy is enough to give any hard working American apoplexy. If he is elected we should invest in some company that make hemostats so that the bleeding can be stemmed.

I've gone to McCain's website, I've signed up for a seat on the Straight Talk Express, I have urged my friends and acquaintances to support McCain's candidacy, so there is no backtracking for this cat.

Yes we can have black cats, yes we can have governors, yes we can have black mayors and yes we can have black senators, but we can't have a Obama represent America. He is too liberal for my blood.

That is the word for the day.

CNN, please stop reporting any more news about the Clintons.
They showed us what they have got and we made our decision.
Whatever they want to do after the primary is 'none of our business'.
Remember Chelsea said this?
If they lost the bid for the highest office, we should respect their privacy. We should give them lots of space.
But I understand if you are all sent to Disney this weekend by CNN and let your server rehash the news. Have loads of fun in FL!

Let's move on to important issues facing our nation when you guys return from the vacation.

I hope Nobama doesn't come back to Ohio to campaign because we do not want him here. He doesn't stand for what we believe in here in Ohio. He is an empty suit. And also, playing the race card and spreading hate and racism aren't Ohio values, only Mississippi, South Carolina, and Alabama.

And the people you've alienated are not the casuals voters, we're the party regulars that donate every year, vote a straight party ticket, go to meetings and rallys and work for the party and its candidates. NOT ANY MORE! Dean/Pelosi/Kerry/Kennedy have thrown the moderates in the party 'under the bus' so we will reply in kind. Smart from London   June 8th, 2008 4:43 pm ET

Democrats! You are making America look ridiculous. Where is the honour in victory as in defeat?

Just like the republicans, you have many issues with your processes. But the difference is that they settle theirs inhouse.

Please stop washing your dirty linen in the public. Hillary is still very important in the democratic party and the republicans hate her (and Bill) more than any other person. Infact, they nominated McCain to beat as they call her 'the B**ch'

So any Hillary supporter who votes for McCain or stays at home to let him win has done the most damage to Clinton.

It is a fact that Republicans hate Clinton. Do not repay their hatred with favour.

Bubba   June 8th, 2008 4:37 pm ET

Could you see "thunder thighs" clintoon on a bike? Ewwww…….

Boye   June 8th, 2008 4:36 pm ET

Apparently, there is something wrong with his outfit. People need to get over themselves and let the man live his life. All he wants to do is live a normal live but all you haters have to jump all over him any chance you get. I didn't know that there was a presidential dress code. -_-"

Foreign Observer   June 8th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

Please, please be careful. It takes only one sniper, and there are so many nutcases with guns out there.

Betty   June 8th, 2008 4:35 pm ET

Good for him !! He deserves a break the same as all the others.

Go Obama 08

Sue   June 8th, 2008 4:34 pm ET

MY VOTE COUNTS!   June 8th, 2008 4:34 pm ET

I AM A DID HARD HILLARY SUPPORTER WHO REALIZES HILLARY LOST FAIR AND SQUARE! ME AND 18 MILLION OF HER SUPPORTERS ARE NOW GOING TO SUPPORT THE WINNER WHO WE WILL CALL PRESIDENT OBAMA!

B. Churchill   June 8th, 2008 4:32 pm ET

Please, please, please; will the "Hillary got shafted" (by the media, by the DNC, by sexism, etc.) crowd take a deep breath and settle down! The nomination was hers to lose - and she lost it. Her huge starting lead and advantage in name recognition gave rise to the whole "inevitable" nonsense - the trouble is, she and her people believed it, and in complacency allowed themselves to be outmaneuvered by the longshot. That's not the media's fault or the DNC's or the fault of an army of misogynists. I (a white middle-aged male-type person) followed the entire primary process closely, and was more than willing to vote for whichever candidate rose to the top (still am). Some good folks fell out along the way for various reasons. I became drawn to Obama for several reasons, foremost among them being my firm belief that our nation has gotten itself in such a mess by the same old crowd doing things the same old way. Love her or hate her, there is no denying Hillary answers that description. Does anyone seriously believe that should Hillary take the White House, that the first order of business wouldn't be to settle up old political scores? I didn't think so. Evidently, a few other folks felt as I did. Can we now get back to the difficult work of righting our battered nation? Thanks.

Tom   June 8th, 2008 4:31 pm ET

I agree with Raleigh - Obama looks like a total dork. I can see the headlines now - HISTORICAL BIKE RIDE!!! Are you bored, insane or just bound and determined to put a black man in the white house regardless of what kind of politics or socialist scheme he believes in?

Dylan   June 8th, 2008 4:31 pm ET

Get his lunch money and throw him in the locker!

Hahaha I still love you, Barack.

Obama 08

John from LA   June 8th, 2008 4:31 pm ET

Democrats against Obama '08!   June 8th, 2008 4:27 pm ET

Democrats against Obama '08!

He is dangerous, nieve, and elitist. The next four years are likely to be horrible economically and no politician can change that reality. So, why not let McCain deal with the backlash caused by Bush's failed economic plan. Democrats would be well served to posture for 2012 and let '08 go.

Matt, PA   June 8th, 2008 4:27 pm ET

Wow, he looks like a huge loser in that photo. Who bike rides in jeans in Chicago in June? This will be Kerry windsurfing and Dukakis is the tank all over again. Good job Dems, we nominated yet another unelectable loser.

Irene   June 8th, 2008 4:27 pm ET

A well deserved break form an 18 month long or hard work campaign. Breath the fresh air and indulge a bit in nature for you have a tough road ahead of you. I wish you good luck!

Brandon, Corvallis OR   June 8th, 2008 4:26 pm ET

Roger   June 8th, 2008 4:25 pm ET

I've seen some great poems about Obama the bathroom stalls at work. :)

Roger   June 8th, 2008 4:24 pm ET

He's not elitist, he's riding a bike.

Wreck your bicycle and FALL HARD dork wad!!!

New Day   June 8th, 2008 4:24 pm ET

Brian   June 8th, 2008 4:23 pm ET

He should be ashamed of himself us Clinton supporters are backing McCain to make Obama feel the pain at the pump nd now he is riding a bike???

Lynn   June 8th, 2008 4:21 pm ET

While Hillary was giving her speech yesterday, the arrogant Obama went golfing. Maybe he will notice when he needs some of the 18 million votes that he won't get. Normal guy - how many secret service people were around him.

Wolf   June 8th, 2008 4:19 pm ET

Perhaps he could ride his bike over to Trinity to visit 'his people'….ya know - the ones that at one time he couldn't throw under the bus? No one is safe with this fella and none of his words mean anything. He shows no loyalty… he is not Presidental material and certainly not the best that the DNC had to offer. Of course, don't ask Donna Brazile - she claims her Mother taught her what cheating was all about - but Ms. Brazile has taken cheating to a new level and the DNC to a new low.

COUNTRY FIRST - PARTY SECOND!!!!!!!!!!

Chris, Middletown, CT   June 8th, 2008 4:19 pm ET
