Obama and McCain are battling over the economy.
Obama and McCain are battling over the economy.

(CNN) — The economy is the No. 1 issue on the minds of American voters, and Sens. John McCain and Barack Obama offer vastly different plans to improve it.

Watch: Pros/cons of Obama's new plan

McCain on Tuesday told a group of small business owners that his goal as president will be "to get our economy running at full strength again."

The senator from Arizona is attempting to paint Obama as a typical Democrat who wants to raise taxes and regulate government, charging that Obama would institute the largest tax increase in more than 60 years.

All of you who Hillary voters who complain so loudly about being "disrespected", perhaps if you started behaving in a manner that inspires respect, you might get more respect. If you truly want to vote against your own self interest out of spite or disappointment, go right ahead, but don't think you are punishing Obama or the DNC by doing so. You are punishing yourself and the rest of the country, (and disrespecting Hillary and her commitment to you.)

Listen up Hillary supporters. If you love Hillary so much then why didn't you support her financially?. Stop whining and help her where she needs you most. You can't help her with the primary, its over. You can't make Obama choose her as VP but you can help get her out of debt. If not what good are you. If Obama doesn't win because Dems stay home, vote for McCain or write in Hillary, you better bet she won't win in 2012. We will make sure of it. What goes around comes around, haven't you people learned that yet. Its the nasty tactics that made her lose the primary. Hopefully Hillary has learned and better tell her people if they want her to have a shot of winning in 2012 they better vote for Obama because for the simple fact that he is the Nominee and he's a Dem.

OBAMA CAN PUT ALL THE NOTABLE AND RETIRED MILITARY LEADERS IN HIS CABINET IF ELECTED BEGINNING OF COURSE WITH GENERAL WESLEY CLARK AS SEC. OF STATE OR DEFENSE.
HE ALSO CAN PUT EDWARDS. BIDEN, DODD, LEAHY , PERHAPS SCHWARZENNEGER, AND OTHER WASHINGTON ESTABLISHMENT OLDTIMERS. HE WILL DENY CLINTON NOT ONLY THE VP SPOT BUT A CABINET POST WHICH CLINTON DOES NOT WANT ANYWAY.
hILLARY'S SUPPORTERS ARE WELL AWARE OF OBAMA'S INTENTIONS. THEY ARE NOT FOOLS.

JayRamos,

Unrestriced capitalism is to economics, what communism is to politics. Wake up. Sometimes goverment regulation is good thing. It avoids using taxes to bail out the economy.

Extending the Bush tax cuts and eliminating the AMT tax would cost one trillion dollars over 10 years. McCain has no plan to pay for it. The US no owes more money to other nations than what is owed the US. That makes us third world, dude.

JC from NJ   June 10th, 2008 2:13 pm ET

It is not that America wants more taxes or bigger government it is just that when the democrats were driving they gave us more taxes and bigger government and everything was affordable. Also jobs were plentiful and there was peace. The Bushpublicans attacked the wrong people, made enemies in new places, tanked the dollar, and in the process made a ton of cash for those that were connected. I'd vote McCain/Bush but I don't have any Halli-Burton stock at stake.

Jay Ramos in NYC. Is this the first Presidiential election that you have watched? The actual campaign slates come out after the election. Until that time all that you will hear is "rhetoric".

But, this year might be something completely different…….

The Truth   June 10th, 2008 2:10 pm ET

No Hillary then McCain = Racist

If this is your rational then it's time to take a good look in the mirror and ask yourself if you're really voting on the issues or do you have issues you need to work out.

Karen in Fla   June 10th, 2008 2:09 pm ET

BASIC ECONOMICS.

The money has to come from somewhere. More hot air from Obama with NOTHING concrete except to slime McCain. And this is change how exactly????

Before you just blindly follow the empty suit, do some research on what McCain and other candidates are really all about and if necessary, ask someone who works with finances in business just exactly what happens when revenues are down – can you say RIF??? (Reduction in Workforce for those unfamiliar). Guess it is a good thing Obama wants to increase unemployment benefits….

Please people – learn a little about it. Don't just vote Obama because you like his speech. That is not what electing a President is about. And don't fall for the nonsense about voting party line. Voting for a President is an honor and should be taken seriously. You should be voting for the person capable of running the country – not the person who should be Press Secretary.

Rudy NYC   June 10th, 2008 2:05 pm ET

TrueDat, check your facts.

Bill Clinton started in a recession left by Bush Sr. The mortgage crisis was created by Bush deregulating the industry to allow contractors, non-banking entities like Trump, to deal in loans. The Wall Street crisis occurrred because of deregulation and lack of oversight.

How many years of regulation would the $35 Billion Bears and Stearns fiasco have paid for? The GOP has a clear tax record of "slash and spend", which has created every recession seen in the US over the past 40 years.

OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT   June 10th, 2008 2:04 pm ET

Ken   June 10th, 2008 1:58 pm ET

Mary,
Do you really know some ULTRALIBERALS who will take our money away? The truth is, the wealthy have benefited from the largest tax break in our history and haven't created anything. They put it in their pockets or buy yachts or six or seven houses or whatever. You must be a very wealthy person to beleive that the liberals will take all your possessions. Possessions are the big problem for the wealth. Greed is what has caused the housing crises, the gas crises and the crises of convidence in our government. I consider myself liberal and have been working hard for the past fifty-one years and, oh yes, paying taxes and social security and giving to charity and taking care of my family. Stick your republican crap.

Jay Ramos in NYC   June 10th, 2008 1:56 pm ET

Anyways, what is the infatuation with Obama? In reality there is little substance behind his public speeches and rethoric.

I really wonder if Democrats and Liberals really want what is best for this country. Are you guys such big fans of more taxes, bigger government, and running away from Iraq so Al Qaida can take over?

Do we really take a look at the issues or we just go with the trendy anti-american setiment of the day?

David in the US   June 10th, 2008 1:55 pm ET

People who claim to be one of the 18 million betrayed by the DNC should know this: Even if the DNC had voted to allow FULL delagate counts out of Florida and Michigan, Hillary still would not have overtaken Obama. This was not a popular vote election. If it was, the entire strategy for both candidates would have been different from the start. If you don't like the rules, work to change them. Both candidates played the same game.

These HRC supporters threatening to boycott or throw the election are the same people, who, if Hillary was winning without those delagates from Michigan and Flordia, WOULD CARE LESS about whether or not those states were even counted. It's like, complain that every vote counts when you need them and keep your mouth shut if you don't. C'mon, you think HRC would have cried foul if she were already winning? Fact is, she never counted on going past Super Tuesday.

What if Obama had won Florida and Michigan. Do you think hillary would have come out and started screaming about counting ALL the votes there??? Give me a break. You lost a close race. Deal with it. Your candidate, HRC, is already supporting Obama and she should be more upset than you.

Why did you vote for her in the first place? Because you care about the future of our country? If so, vote for Obama now. Otherwise, you either voted for her only because she is a woman or because you are racist against black people. There is no other reason why you would switch from her to McCain. If it was about issues vote Obama. If it is racism vote McCain. end of story.

Obama v McCain   June 10th, 2008 1:55 pm ET

is it a conflict of interest when your current president has "family interets" in oil?

Teddy California   June 10th, 2008 1:54 pm ET

It is good for Obama finally to talk about economy. He needs to focus on the economy like a laser. McCain's and Republican's economic ideas are all based on less governmental intervention and lower taxes. They do not have that much to talk about because they believe the economy should be run by private businesses, not the government.

When economy is not good, more people like active governmental roles in economy. In fact, there are very few countries like U.S. In Europe, Japan, China, India, Canada, Korea, Brazil, and other major countries, governments play much more active roles in economy than the U.S. Japan's government gives very detailed macro economic planning.

Are Americans ready for more governmental roles in economy? When economy is not that good, the answer is yes.

I just hope my family won't have to pay too much more taxes. We are ready to pay several thousands more a year. But if we have to pay more than 10 K a year additional taxes, we might vote against Obama because in that case, we have to cut back contributions to our 401K/IRA savinvs, or our kids educational and customdian accounts. I will check his proposals carefully after Democratic convention.

Broke in NJ   June 10th, 2008 1:54 pm ET

I applaud those who are wealthy by their own means like going to school, working hard and saving every penny, or inventing something unique etc. What I won't stand for is the wealthy that have gotten there riding on the coattails of someone else. i.e. Bush, McCain, half of Washington DC etc. I don't penalize or badmouth the wealthy for being rich however I do criticize them for trying to tell me that they understand the plight of the poor man when their claim to wealth was their wife, daddy, or other family member. But that is America and the rich will always be rich and the poor will always be fooled to elect and seek millionaires that 'understand' their problems.
The only guy in the campaign that is self made is Obama and he will get my vote.
PS I called my senator and his limo driver confirmed it, gas is expensive these days!

Remember, John McCain will "veto every single BEER!" lol

Oh and to clear things up, when Obama misspoke and said that there have been "57 states", he really meant 57 primary election contests.

No one speaks perfectly, but let's not forget the most notorious butcher of the English language: George W. Bush!

Isnt that like saying McCain misspoke and meant to say beers instead of bills. WOW you Obamabots really are more educated. I know I dont speak perfect english, but 57 states I know what you say he ment to say, the fact is he said 57 states.

MichaelH   June 10th, 2008 1:48 pm ET

This forum is just like the race for president. No one seems to know the issues! Even though the democrats are in charge they had nothing to do with the cost of gas. The weak dollar brought on by Republican direction of the Fed, and speculators buying commodities because they cannot make any money in financials (again do to policies by the Fed) is causing the price of oil to rise. Someone mentioned that unemployment is the lowest its ever been, after having been manipulated by the government. How about showing how many people quit looking for jobs because there are none? That figure will not be 5.5%

Bush not causing the economic problem and subprime mess is the right answer, for the correct answer travel back 25 years ago to the Federal policies of cheap money that is continuing today and the avarice of Wall Street in creating complicated investment vehicles that they do not seem to understand.

A major commentor was asked "Who would you choose for president?" His answer:

"I would shoose the smartest person available, and hope that they can hire smart people!"

As Friday would say "The facts mam, justs the facts!"

The Delaware Oracle   June 10th, 2008 1:48 pm ET

Mac is made of the real stuff. A real man. Obam is cotton candy fluff and almost womanly with his 39 bowling score..

Obam was appointed by the DNC and the DNC will appoint a VP.

After seeing the results and the delegations from the state of Washington where Obam got 25 delegates on less than 30,000 votes and he got more delegates in TX and NV when Hillary won the popular vote are prime indicators that the nomination was fixed.

So go on and try to seize the headlines on a phony VP search. Give me a break.

Matt   June 10th, 2008 1:47 pm ET

The democrats promised you in 2006 that if you put them in charge of congress they would change the economy, end the War in Iraq, and bring down gas prices.

Well the changed the economy, that's for sure.

Now they are promising you the same things.

When will you uneducated people learn they are lying to you??

Karl   June 10th, 2008 1:46 pm ET

I find it amazing that the HRC suporters think that their 18 million can stop an election. But in 4 years if the 18 million that supported Obama did the same to HRC, would we not be in the same place? By no means do I say you are wrong, I just see the logic as flawed. Help me understand.

JLW   June 10th, 2008 1:44 pm ET

The only reason Clinton and Obama have the same platform is because he copied hers. He doesn't have an original thought. And while I thought I would vote for him in November, I am having serious doubts. I have health insurance and I don't want him interferring with private healthcare. I think universal healthcare is great but don't mess with the people who already have it. The last thing we need is a socialist system.

Slected not Elected   June 10th, 2008 1:43 pm ET

McCain just wants to do more of what Bush did.

Look what a great economy that got us. Look what a great national debt that got us.

What's McCain want? $8.00 for a gallon of gas, a million foreclosed homes, and so much debt not even the middle east and China will loan us any more money?

Henry Miller, Cary, NC   June 10th, 2008 1:37 pm ET

"The senator from Arizona is attempting to paint Obama as a typical Democrat who wants to raise taxes and regulate government…"

Obama is a typical Democrat who wants to raise taxes, but the article got the last bit wrong: Obama wants more and more government to regulate you. If he becomes President, one of the first things on his list is apparently going to be to deprive us all of any choice in medical care–not fair letting all those nasty "rich" people get better care than everyone else. And raising taxes is a fundamental deprivation of liberty–things you can't afford to do because the IRS swiped another couple thousand from your annual income are indistinguishable from things you're not allowed to do.

Obama, like most Democrats, thinks we're all irresponsible idiots incapable making any significant decision without government "help."

I don’t see why people are blaming Bush for the lousy state this country is in. I have not had a raise in a year due to the crushing effect the economy has had on the profession I am in. If you ask, “Are you better now then you were a year ago.” My answer would be a profound, “yes.”
The reason is all around us, the cost of living has gone up, my paycheck hasn’t.

We are no safer now then we were for or even eight years ago. Just yesterday, the border agents captured fifteen Chinese immigrates trying to sneak into the US through Mexico. The ports are unsafe, we are farming out our Air force and railways to foreign countries.

All in all, it is not Bush’s fault we are in dire straights, it is those who chose to vote for him the second time around, and now, they are looking for a third “Bush” term through McCain? Can you say masochistic?

joe in VA   June 10th, 2008 1:35 pm ET

I've never known of a politician whose words I can trust. So, I cast my vote based on the candidates track record and what they've accomplished. Actions speak louder than words.

I wish so of the Obamaniacs out there would ask themselves "What has Obama DONE?" If you blindly believe every word uttered by him or any politician for that matter, then you ought to get your local used car salesman to run for office.

The more I read some of the comments posted here the more I'm conviced that Obama supporters like to be entertained by their candidate. Independent thinking appears to be too much of a challenge. The country would be far better off without lazy voters like that. I haven't decided who I'm voting for yet but unless I see more action and less talk from BHO, I'm not voting for him. I suggest you don't either.

Michele, Oregon   June 10th, 2008 1:31 pm ET

To Mary and all others who like to say that people are lazy and don't want to work hard. I understand what is behind what you are saying and you have probably worked hard to have what you have.

But there is a philosophical difference about what we believe that our "community" American means. The Republican model is a system where we live to make money off of each other but one which which leads to self-protectionism so that the "haves" can keep what they have. The Democratic model is more concerned with taking care of the least. It is not all just about having money, but the distribution of it.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if when we have two coats we would give one away?…if we spend our time and resources in activites which reflect true care for our brothers and sisters? Both parties have a long way to go, but I will be sticking with the Dems this year. They do a better job. Obama to the White House!

Tax tax tax then spend spend spend. Redistribution of wealth.

Its not rocket science to figure out that if you tax companies more, they are going to respond by raising prices, cutting jobs, and other moves of that sort in order to maintain their profit margin.

This is America, where all you need is hard work and education in order to be successful. You do not need hard work, education, and the government in order to make your life possible.

I find it so funny that liberals will say "Keep your laws off my body" when framing the abortion debate, but what i say is "Keep your laws off my body and keep your hands out of my pockets!"

Exactly !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THERE IS NOT SPECIFIC ARTICLE ON WHICH TO COMMENT REGARDING THE REPUBLICANS IN THE SENATE BLOCKING A BILL TO TAKE WINDFALL PROFITS OF BIG OIL COMPANIES. I SUGGEST IT IS TIME TO REPLACE THE REPUBLICANS IN THE SENATE WITH SENATORS WHO CARE ABOUT THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. SENATORS WHO ARE NOT AFRAID THEY WILL RUFFLE THE FEATHERS OF OIL MEN, NAMELY BUSH AND CHANEY. NO ROOM ANYMORE FOR RUBBER STAMPERS AND KISSER UPPERS IN THE SENATE. VOTE OUT ALL REPUBLICANS ASAP.

TO ANDY J, Conservatives just do not get it. They honestly believe that if they give businesses every tax break they can, then businesses will pay decent wages, take care of their employees, etc. WAKE UP!!!! These businesses will drop you like a lead balloon and will pay you as little as possible for as long as they can. Corporate America must show a profit better than the previous year, so they will raise their prices and lay off their employees anyway. How can small businesses like hardware stores, small grocery stores compete with conglomerates like Lowe's, Wal-mart, etc. when the conglomerates get all the tax breaks. Hey, give me 6 years to start a business and not have to pay any taxes and I think I can make it. Unions were our last wall of defense in negotioting a decent wage and starting with Ronald Reagan they are not a pitance of what they used to be.

First, the GOP energy bill of drilling for more oil was rejected.

Second, the democrat energy bill for a 25% tax increase on oil companies and a lawsuit against OPEC was rejected.

Third, the price of gas soars…

I have news for democrats… you cannot tax your way out of this mess… taxes will INCREASE the price of fuel… that's how it works.

Nut jobs like Pelosi need to learn that you cannot complain to OPEC for high prices, yet reject a proposal for drilling in Alaska and in the Gulf for environmental concerns.

So, for some people in Congress, they want to increase our oil supply by zero and magically lower the price…

amazing… it's like they are deliberately doing this

Andy   June 10th, 2008 1:17 pm ET

To the Clinton supporters who post here – get off your high horse. Just because you were 1 in 18 million who voted for Hillary does not mean that she was best and you are all the smart Americans. 18 million voted for Obama too, what makes your 18 mil so special?

I've been an Obama supporter since I saw him last October. I used to be way against Hillary, but once I took the time to learn something about her and her policies I started liking her a bit more.

My thoughts on this economic issue is that for almost eight years now this country has been witness to the vexatious policies of this current administration. Yes McCain has experience, but I just don't trust his experience because of his dealings in the senate. Is it not true that McCain agreed with 95% of Bush's policies and actions? You see where that got us. If he knows so much and has all this so-called "experience" then why in the world does he flip-flop about the comments and statements he made recently and years back during his "experienced" years?

Barack Obama provides what he say…and that's Change. Not only is he more smarter, but he is more capable of a new and better economic picture for America. For a guy with little experience, he sure is giving the old vet more comp than everyone thought!

It's amazing how badly some people are behaving in these forums. I've seen so many names thrown and bad-mouthing, and it's so pathetic that you can't make an argument about their policies so you resort to calling them idiots, elitists, race baters, whatever. Why can't we all just get along? :)

I'd love to see McCain and Obama co-sponsor a bill to help move us forward towards energy independence. Not everyone is right or wrong all the time. I'd love to see McCain say "that is a good idea Obama has" or Obama to say "McCain is right about this issue" – let's find common ground on the issues that matter and get some work done. These guys are still Senators until one of them gets elected to POTUS, so they should be getting some work done too!

carlo   June 10th, 2008 1:12 pm ET

I am now more convinced than ever that the large majority of Hillary supporters who are now claiming that they are voting for McCain are either Republicans who took part in Operation Chaos started by that buffoon Limbaugh, or you are Republicans just trying to stir up trouble. The fact that Obama and Clinton don't differ on how to deal with the economy, combined with some of you morons on here yelling about a PUMA pac actually defending McCain's positions, which are diametrically opposed to what Hillary stands for, tells the story.

I am now more than convinced that there is no way a true Democrat or even a true supporter of Hillary Clinton who actually wasn't voting for her because she is a woman would rather be shot than vote for McCain.

John McCain sets the record straight. He said he would veto every BEER. Folks John McCain is SENILE and has a lot of SENIOR MOMENTS just like I do at 65 years old and I'm in better health than him. BUT YOU CAN'T AVOID SENIOR MOMENTS NO MATTER HOW HARD YOU MAY TRY, THEY JUST CREEP UP ON YOU WITHOUT ANY NOTICE AND YOU TOTALLY FORGET WHAT YOU WERE TRYING TO SAY. WELCOME TO THE CLUB JOHN MCCAIN.

Are people so foolish as to believe Bush is responsible for the economy? It bounced back after 9/11, and then took a dump again due to the subprime mortgage crisis, which was caused by greedy speculators and unscrupulous lenders, not Bush. The oil "crisis" is also caused primarily by Wall Street. The shortage is gratly exaggerated, but that also has nothing to do with Bush. The unemployment rate is currently equal to the LOWEST it ever was during Bill Clinton's presidency. I" concede that If we can't finght the war in Iraq on our own terms, then it is pointless to stay there, but on nearly every other issue, Democrats have lost all touch with reality!

M.K. Ozman   June 10th, 2008 1:08 pm ET

McCain is such a dishonest man. I used to respect him, but when I have just read a report in the British Daily Mail on how he dumped his first wife who waited five years for him when he was captured in Vietnam because she gained wait and was hurt by a car accident. He just rewarded her loyalty by running after younger women and then marrying a wealthy blond heiress. What a selfish crooked looser!

To ObamaSupporter:

Yes, unemployment is at 5.5%. Should we follow the European economic model that Obama proposes and perhaps we'll have double-digit unemployment like most of Europe!

Their average unemployment rate over the past 10 years? 9.4%
France: 10.9%
Canada: 8.3%
Germany: 9.0%
Spain: 11.4%

Is this what the liberals want? to be like Europe?
Or maybe have average unemployment of the past years be 4.9% like in the United States? Its not the lowest figure out there, but its pretty darn good compared to others!

And now Obama wants 'windfall profits' taxes, to raise (by almot double) capital gains taxes, uncap Social Security taxes, and raise taxes on the upper tax brackets….

Great, at a time of slow economic growth, he wants to hamper investment. Good solution, my man. Just when I thought the Senate learned something by privatizing their cafeteria (which posted a profit in only 7 of 40 years of operation), the Dems are pushing for government 'intervention' in the oil market. I'm sure it'll go as smoothley as when they tried in it in the 80s when that windfall profits tax caused less domestic oil production and more oil imports from overseas.

Keep Obama out of your pocket book.

I can't believe that a party that once elected presidents like Roosevelt and Truman has sunk to electing racist socialists in disguise. Of course, judging from the comments I read everyday on these forums, I should not be suprised. You Obamites are nothing but angry little sheep following their socialist shepherd.

You are really giving Clinton supporters a bad name. You are the type of supporter that only voted for her becuase she is a woman not because of her stance on the issues. I was a Clinton supporter because of where she stood. Now that she is no longer running, I have to find someone new who's views are more closely aligned with my own. Between McCain and Obama, its Obama every day of the week. If your views more closely align you with McCain, then by all means vote for him. But don't vote for McCain just because you feel slighted by Obama. You have to get beyond your anger and think about the ISSUES that are most important to you.

They should all have to do it for several months with no credit cards live pay check to paycheck. Then they would have a clue as to how the economy needs to helped. Throwing 50 billion dollars into the economy isnt going to help it. We need real solutions. Obama is alot of hot air. oh and hope! Build an electric that can go 200 miles before re-fueling. The winners are the parties that can build one million of them in one year.

I'd give Obama a chance to fix this mess… but so MUCH rancor and vitriol from his camp. And so much arrogance and boastfulness from the great Obama himself.

MY moment of defection:
Early On the polls showed that the majority of supporters for HRC would gladly vote for Obama.

Then Obama used that as a weapon to divide the party. We went National and very arrogantly and presumptuously declared that HE could WIN back the HRC supporters… but not the other way around.

SEE? words DO matter. And How was that so? After all don't the issues and the values and ideals of the party matter to the Obama supporters? Besides, as I then blogged- Obama supporters have MORE to lose with a McCain win, then us older, more conservative HRC demographic. I was seldom posted and abusively attacked if I managed to sneak in a comment.

THAT WAS MY PERSONAL MOMENT OF DEFECTION FROM OBAMA.

McCain haters need to look at the facts:

1.) you lose 6.2% of your paycheck to Social Security. If you employ yourself, that makes 12.4% of your income.

2.) lets say your federal income tax is middle of the road at 15%.

3.) If you're like 37 million Americans and live in California, your state income tax is probably another 7% of your income.

total income tax bill: 28%

Now add 7.75% of most things you spend money on and 15% of any investment profits made from your IRA, 401(K) or other personal retirement account.

The beauty is, under Obama, you would still lose 6.2% (or 12.4%) of your income to the Social Security tax, and if you're under 35, you are unlikely to see a dime of that. So we younger folks must depend on 401(k)s, IRAs, etc, for our retirement, yes?

And Obama wants to almost double the capital gains tax, from 15 to 28%! Every person that believes SS isn't going to last should vote against Obama, because he's going to cut into your retirement income, pure and simple. What, you think you're going to rely on the government to give you your money back in 40 years?!? oh, the naive.

Tell Obama to shove it and that you will rely on yourself, tell him to take his money grubbing hands out of your pocket!

Jan from Boca Raton, Fla, why not put some thought into your blogging. What is the sence in exchanging ideas if all you are going to say is the same old nonsence. Joe   June 10th, 2008 12:46 pm ET

To Andy from New York: Republicans are just as big on taxes as Dems are. The difference is that Republicans don't call 'em taxes. They're fees, or co-pays, or premiums. The simple reason we want to raise taxes (as well as rolling back tax cuts for the wealthy) is because people's needs are not being met. $1000/month health insurance premiums, stiff co-pays, fees, etc, ARE taxes, just under a different name.
The current administration has the idea that we should cut taxes for the wealthy and spend like drunken sailors – not a good combination. With the money we've spent on this bogus "war on terrorism", we could have solved the health care crisis and fixed the infrastructure 3 times over. Don't even try to defend it – the truth is out

The CNN and DNC Bind   June 10th, 2008 12:45 pm ET

I voted for Hillary Clinton because she was the MOST qualified and the BEST candidate to lead us from this mess.

But she was eliminated from the race by the flunkies for Obama.CNN Bind
For those who ask, “what media bias for Obama?”

My small personal Observations.

1. I’ve tried to caution against the hate and the divide I saw forming in the Democratic party for months. But for months the HRC supporters were moderated out of all the internet posts. The Obama supporters were allowed to post filth about all of us ignorant, moronic, inbred, uneducated idiotic racists- I mean ‘rascists’. Apparently that is how they are now spelling the word in college campuses across the nation. We spelled it different in the 1960s when we marched and protested for civil rights and women’s rights to end racism and sexism.

2. I copied some of the more vulgar posts- about HOs and about how Chelsea was a product of siblings Bill and Hill Fuc—, and all the lovely, gracious, educated comments about inbred cousins in WV etc. I then changed the names from Clinton to Obama, and asked CNN to show me they were NOT biased and re-post those same insults with the tables reversed. Never did happen. But the Obama people still got their nasty mean comments on the boards.

3. I then copied those comments and pasted them into e-mails to CNN and asked them to moderate such vitriol. Still no response.

4. I watched Chris Mathews of MSNBC drool when he spoke of Obama, and spit when speaking of HRC and all women in general.

5. Obama supporters gleefully blogged propaganda for Obama. Look, they said… for every HRC post there are 35 for Obama. That is NOT truth. That is perception created by BIASED media propaganda.

I’m strongly for HRC but planned to vote for Obama were he the nominee (check the early polls- they reflect that early sentiment of HRC supporters). Now, it is NEVER Obama. I may be an old bra-burning woman for choice and against the Iraq war- but I still know HOW to protest for equality and freedom, with my vote in Nov.

Hillary lost because of Arrogance. No one even took Obama seriously until he won a predominate white state. Then she had no plan for after Super Tuesday.

The Horrible but dirty campaign hillary ran having the money, the name, the clout ,but no defining message, no true strategy but the big states and discounting every state that was little.

Hillary lost because of no money. For all those 18 million voters not enough believed in her to donate to her campaign. You can't lay that at the feet of Obama.

And let's face it without the help of Operation Chaos the race would have been down in Texas.

But last and not least stop overstating your vote. You are not the 18 million you are just one. Over 60% already are going to vote for Obama

You can cry about the media bias, DNC, SD or whatever else. But I saw the person with a well known name, most love president for a husband campaigning for you, most initial SD backers, and big money lose a

Biracial man, who had a muslim father, who middle name was Hussein, had no big money, hardly no initial SD backing, and hardly any washington experience and simple message. " Change ".

If you can win with all those advantage you don't deserve to be the nominee

Do the right thing for your ideals   June 10th, 2008 12:45 pm ET

Well, HATERS for Obama, you made this bed. Now lie in it for 4 MORE years. For months these blogs have been filled with Anti-Hillary ANTIPATHY (antipathy for those who are different?). I have tried for months to call for unity. I said that the hate would backfire. I warned of the dangers of unity by division and hate.

CNN always moderated me out. They had their agenda to gain Obama the nomination. So they had plenty of space to post all the hatred- even foul filthy vulgar comments made it to the posts.
You can thank your own selves, CNN, MSNBC, and even Michelle Obama (for saying on National Television that she would have to think about voting for HRC if Hillary were the nominee).

So much for replacing R administration with a D administration, so much about voting for the party, so much for remember the values we all share as DEMS, so much for the Supreme Court, Roe vs Wade and the war in Iraq.

What is good for the black goose is good for this white gander.

Remember his "bitter" comment? The media didn't let that go. In fact, they ran it through the ground, and caused him to lose Ohio and Pennsylvania.

How quickly we forget. All candidates have to occasionally go through the wringer. That's how politics is played.

Xavier, St. Louis, MO   June 10th, 2008 12:44 pm ET

Please! The choice is a no-brainer. McCain don't have a clue to how poor of a shape our economy is in. He and Cindy have millions, that’s why he thinks the economy is okay. All McCain wants to do is win a pointless war that has no ending. If America would spent ½ of the money on our country that we are spending on Iraq, then our economy would be in much better shape . . . but that’s too more than right.

Tax, spend and regulate politics from Obama. We've seen it all before but it has been eight years so people have a hard time remembering. Even when Slick Willie was doing the same, he was just in the right place at the right time during the high tech boom. Keep government out of y life and out of my wallet. One last thing to Barack: Hey Obama, why the long face?

Chipster   June 10th, 2008 12:43 pm ET

Andy J, NY: "Tax tax tax then spend spend spend. Redistribution of wealth."

I have a question for you: what do you call "Borrow, borrow, borrow, then spend, spend, spend?"

I call it irresponsible! We're selling our country to China. Tax and spend is simple economics. If we want services, we must pay for them or else we will find ourselves deep in debt – isn't that what the Republicans have achieved? If you want to cut taxes, you should be cutting services but I haven't heard McCain advocating that over the past 7 years.

Crush Rush   June 10th, 2008 12:43 pm ET

Gary Chandler in Canada   June 10th, 2008 12:41 pm ET

Obama or McCain, easing the gas crisis lies in moving off the inefficient corn model and copying the Brazil success story with sugar cane. (1.5 to 1 ; compared to 3 to 1)
Look past the first glance; with Brazil producing 9 times the cane USA does. America is still in the top in the World 10 for sugar cane production. If fuel prices could be reduced by $1 per gallon, it is likely production could increase.
(Of course there are other measures. If sewage waste was first put in 'cooking' containers, enough gas would be produced to fuel the rest of the treatment process, with surplus.)

Republican must be running scared. I see a lot of them posting as Hillary supporters saying they won't vote for Obama. Anyone who wanted Hillary based on her issues will vote for Obama because they are almost identical on issues. They also know she will play a vital role when he is in the White House even if she is not the VP she will have a very high role on all issues depending on where Hillary wants to be located. She may not want the VP slot but a slot more in tune with her fighting image. McCain is the opposite on issues of both Hillary and Obama. Any women who was voting for Hillary just because she was a women would never turn to McCain. His views on women and their rights are nonexistent. He has no respect for women even his wife. Just read some of the names he has called her in public.

Belle   June 10th, 2008 12:40 pm ET

I don't think just Mocking McCain will work this time folks.

I watched the clip on McCain's proposed town hall meetings with Obama.

He ACTUALLY seems more of a Uniter than Obama is at this point. Here is a man, reaching across to BOTH Republicans and Democrats. Calling for joint, respectful town hall meetings. Calling for both McCain and Obama to travel together on the same plane! Very refreshing.

Obama still avoids answering the tough questions about Rezko. He needs to answer if he wants to win.

Sen McCain has promoting the concept of "Trickle-Down" Economics, which was first agressively implemented by Reagan. This means give tax breaks to "those who can create new jobs", which is implemented by giving tax breaks to the wealthy.

Reagan had a recession and half during his 2 terms. Bush Sr. finished his term on a recession. Bush Jr. is likewise finishing his term on what is buidling into what could be the worst recession in 30 years.

The trickle down theory was greet with enthusiasm because it looks good on paper. The vast majority of ecnomists agree that in practice, it is a failure because of pure simple greed. It does not work as promised over the long run.

I am one of the 18 million and sent the following to Dr. Dean, Chair of the DNC, last night:
"The selection of an unknown, inexperienced and totally unqualified candidate to be the nominee of our party is inexcusable, especially when there was a person who is one of the best candidates that the Democratic Party has ever had run and who would have had an infinitely better chance of beating McCain. But no. So-called party leaders decided it was a better idea to gamble with a candidate who was totally unknown to them before the 2004 convention and who has no credentials whatsoever for the office of President of the United States. It’s political malpractice. Is this really what we all lived through 8 years of George W. Bush for? You all have to be joking.

How can you choose another woman when Hillary Clinton has worked her butt off and earned a spot on the ticket.
Would you rather the few electoral college points from kansas or would you like Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida, Michigan, maybe be some other "RED" states that Hillary does quite well in.
Sebelius is similar to Hillary, but I would rather the real deal.

When John howard came in he said he was for small business because that is what keeps the economy afloat, and guess what – AUSTRALIAN BUSINESS BEGAN GROWING AT RECORD NUMBERS….

remember that before you think taxing anybody making over 150k is fine. its not just people in corporate america earning salaries, its small business who get a combined profit of this amount, but more has to go back into the company… do you think they will be happy with higher taxes ?

My vote did not matter then. The issues were less important than the race of the candidate.

It won't matter in NOV either. I am now free to protest with my vote.

I left the democratic party.

HRC will always get my vote in the future. All other dems have added my nail to their coffin.

Hillary Supporter   June 10th, 2008 12:25 pm ET

This is so cool! Obama's plans are the same as Hillary to a large degree. I think she turned him into a real fighter now for the average person. The funding for his plans will pale in comparison to the what Bush and the Republicans spent over the last 8 years. I am voting for Obama now!

Robert   June 10th, 2008 12:25 pm ET

Painting Obama as a typical spend spend spend democrat doesn't fly, What Mccain is really saying is what he has said early on in the republican primary….. He doesn't really understand the economy….

He is becoming the republican sacrifical lamb…..

Juan   June 10th, 2008 12:25 pm ET

McBush has a solution for economy. LOL

Brian Knoxville, TN   June 10th, 2008 12:25 pm ET

RIGHT ON!

TXBad1 ( ex Democrat)   June 10th, 2008 12:24 pm ET

Obamanites, wake up, Obama has no workable economic plan, and throwing that McCain is 4 more years of Bush, are you ignorant or Just uninformed on past issues and just came out to Vote for Obama based on race? McCain is Known for Bumping heads with Bush over issues, CNN knows they often pointed it out! I Voted for Hillary, since shes not in the Race I will Vote for McCain as will the Majority of her supporters!
Obamanites, you caused the riff, you live with it!

McCain all the way in November!
and I Have Voted Demarcate since most of the obamanites were a twinkle in there Parents dreams that Voting for Obama will ruin!

Alex in TX   June 10th, 2008 12:23 pm ET

This article is about economics right? Why are so many people posting about the media and how Hillary was railroaded, and Obama was selected.

The reason the party is so divided is because people refuse to look at the issues. Obama and Hillary are nearly identical. Don't blame Obama for your perceptions of how the media treated Hillary.

Lest we not forget that Rev Wrigt was the leading story for nearly 3 weeks straight and "bittergate" was another 2. The media wasn't soft on Obama he just made fewer mis-statements and contradictory statements to previous actions.

Lets unite behind the issues!!

DemocracyNow2008   June 10th, 2008 12:23 pm ET

Obama speaks about the Economy and McCain speaks about the Beers that he will veto .
I will take Obama over McBeer.

media darling   June 10th, 2008 12:23 pm ET

HRC.

I Know that the policy wonk is the best on EVERY issue.

Should have counted my vote when it counted.

Now it has become a PROTEST vote against Obama.

Independent (Ex-Democrat) in Iowa   June 10th, 2008 12:22 pm ET

As much as I love Hillary, I make my own decisions as far as who I vote for – I won't just 'fall in line'. He has to earn our votes – not expect her to deliver us. He has time – he had better make some wise decisions.

With that, if Obama were to choose her for a key position, like Secretary of State, I'd be more comfortable voting for him.

Edward - Virginia   June 10th, 2008 12:21 pm ET

No Hillary…then I take her lead and will vote for Obama. Obviously, him and her are closer to the heartfelt issues facing America. Gramps ain't got a chance.

anti bandwagon-voting   June 10th, 2008 12:21 pm ET

Is there ANY doubt who is best on the ECONOMY?

Oh wait… her party and the celebrity bandwagon with the media at the helm KILLED her chances just to advance their puppet Obama.

I am now for the Elderly gentleman.

TRUE change from the circus we just went through.

okay Obama supporters   June 10th, 2008 12:21 pm ET

You honestly think that Obama has the magical solution to instantly drop oil prices and gas prices.

It doesn't matter who you elect. Both will make gas prices through the roof.

I won't make the mistake any of you make, I'm voting for Bob Barr… you know the OTHER man running that CNN won't tell you about…

Doug R.   June 10th, 2008 12:19 pm ET

Again…two faced McCain is not being honest and no one is questioning him on this. Lets also remember Ronald Reagan raised taxes how many times…and doubled the FICA tax.
What are his specific plans for getting the economy runing at full speed?? What about oil prices??He talks in broad generalizations. He appears disorganized and aloof. He's looking older and older each time you see him. This country needs real change and new blood.

Marc Seattle Wash   June 10th, 2008 12:19 pm ET

The Democrats tried to tax the big oil companies and the Republicans said no and they blocked the bill. Ane we want to back McCain.

McCain=the draft   June 10th, 2008 12:19 pm ET

Pound the podium as hard as you want McCain. I still don't believe you, nor will I vote for you. Boy, you get angry …not what I want in the White House.

Economy?   June 10th, 2008 12:19 pm ET

Wasn't it obvious from the start that ON ALL THE ISSUES HRC was the best one?

Why try to decide now between these second and third tier choices?

Why not just have gone with the better choice right from the start?

This hype of hope is getting mighty old.

McCain gets my vote just in protest of the dirty swiftboat tactics used to trounce HRC.

Rick FL   June 10th, 2008 12:18 pm ET

In comparison, I guess McCain is the typical Republican with borrow and spend positions to support Bush's tax cuts for the wealthiest 1%.

To support a new approach for our economy, Obama proposes those tax cuts for Americans making under $75K, who actually need relief.

Walter Greason   June 10th, 2008 12:18 pm ET

Paul, Riverside, CA   June 10th, 2008 12:17 pm ET

If history can tell us anything, the greatest boom in American History was 60 years ago. We just came out of WWII, and needed a way for this country to pay down an insurmountable debt. Taxes were raised, and from 1948 – 1965 the American economy was #1 in the world and model for other industrialized countries.

Party Crasher   June 10th, 2008 12:16 pm ET

George W. McCain can give a speach about something this important without thinking about the weekend.

This just shows how much effort will be placed on the issues that the American public is facing.

There is no such thing as a Clinton supporter, Obama supporter or McCain supporter. You are either Republican, Democrat or independant. If you are not over the primaries yet, then you will never be. So stop using the blog for your propaganda and get with the program.

Who cares?   June 10th, 2008 12:15 pm ET

On the issues… well HRC took that fight… should've nominated the best one.

Now it is about character and values and the ideals of our democracy.

I will suffer 4 more years now.

NEVER Obama.

Staunch Clinton Supporter   June 10th, 2008 12:15 pm ET

I see Obama is still excelling his message when he is reading from a Teleprompter. Having this kind of talent makes Obama a good actor, who know how to read his lines to make it sound convincing.

Bravo! Spike Lee has a staring role for you in his next all black movie.

While taking question in a Q&A, he flounders like a fish out of water, it is pretty sad to see and to listen too…

Obama would never have made it on the All Black Debating Team; from Oprah's movie

Jim - Phila. Pa.   June 10th, 2008 12:14 pm ET

Obama is a Marxist. Look at his past and his friends. Check out Acorn.

Beverly, NYC   June 10th, 2008 12:14 pm ET

It is the economy stupid. Mccain is for the rich and tax loopholes for big business who are free to go overseas for cheaper workers and larger profits. He thinks the economy is in great shape, if I had his wife's money I would think so too. Maybe he should ask his housekeeper, gardner, or nanny what they think of the economy.

Slected not Elected   June 10th, 2008 12:14 pm ET

Yes, only a fool would negotiate with terrorists! Negotiations with terrorists is exactly what one should never do, as it only bequests more terrorism – fool! Terrorists and terrorism supporting countries and leaders who support terrorism are no more than cowardess, murderous, uncivilized, scum thugs – Satan's little warlocks I presume you would just as soon negotiate with Satan as well? A vote for Obama just shows one's stupidity and how easily they can be duped by a socialistic Marxist farce, and one who "changes" his stance and views hour by hour and day by day with his eloquent but hypocritical and inexperienced "words", "just words", "just speeches" of "change" to Marxism"! All it takes is the ignoramous fools of the demo party to be foolish enough to vote for a candidate like Obama

ao   June 10th, 2008 12:13 pm ET

both are worth each other. One os sensless republican, the other is naive democrat with faulty policies.

Now for those who ask why i wouldn't vote for Obama but would for Hillary.

After Obama's today comment it is quite clear to me. For me 15,000,000 people who will be still uninsured under his generous plan is NOT, as he describes his differences with Sen. Clinton, an "Infinitesimal" difference – it IS LIFE AND DEATH DIFFERENCE for those 15,000,000 people! Therefore if he does not LISTEN FOR ONCE to Edwards, Hillary, and other real progressives I WILL NOT cast my vote for him. This is a single biggest issue for me – universal healthcare is not 95% insured – it is 100% insured. So I will support only those who will get the job done RIGHT, the FIRST time around (since second chance may not come in 40 years) – like experience with expension of madicare/medicaid proves

Mary   June 10th, 2008 12:13 pm ET

You may not like the "wealthy" because you aren't one of them — nothing new — been that way since before the days of Robin Hood — and will always be that way — until people actually WORK HARD and WORK SMART to become wealthy themselves.

Problem is that Ultraliberals don't want to work hard. They want others to do that and then TAKE it away from them, like it's some sort of "right" of theirs.

Truth is that it is the "wealthy" who have built companies that create jobs that produce products that generate revenue that fuels the economy.

Go ahead — tax them out of existence — and see where YOUR next job comes from!

DNC ignore us again   June 10th, 2008 12:12 pm ET

Will Obama and his surrogates all gang up to beat up on McCain… or will Obama decide to run a clean campaign finally?

Why try 08   June 10th, 2008 12:11 pm ET

Fiscal conservatives explain this. Why do you hate the idea of helping the common man always stating they should make it own their own. But then turnaround and give breaks to corportations in hope they will create jobs and do what is best for the common american. Their jobs is not to take care of america it is to make money. That's why when government deregulalized lending subprime lenders came in and took advantage of the uneducated and corporations backed this quick windfall knowing the evitable crisis that would come but also knowing they would get a parachute or a government bailout. While the average homeowner is told to fend for himself.

Stop putting the fate of the american people solely in the hands of Corporate America. Their jobs is to make money first no create jobs in america. If you make it easier to go somewhere else for cheaper labor then what choice do you think they will make.

Broke in NJ   June 10th, 2008 12:11 pm ET

You know what, even If I believed Mr. McCain and his republican compatriots had the answer to our economical woes today why would I believe him. His buddy and mentor had eight years do the right thing and here I am with a house that is declining in value every day, the price of gas is incredible, and the grocery bill… nuff said. Sorry honorable McCain now it is the democrats turn.
PS When was the last time he stood in line at the grocery store or worried about gas prices. He flies everywhere and groceries are the maid's job.
Obama in 08 because he still has the taste of poverty in his craw!

Where is McBush's all-important flag pin that Obama took so much heat for not wearing? I see Obama wearing his, but not McBush. I guess he's not patriotic.

Yeah, here are their vastly different plans:

Obama: Have Iraqis step up and take care of themselves.
McBush: We'll stay for 100 or so years and do it.

mccain wants to ban beer!someone will beat him up for that.

Pat--Iowa   June 10th, 2008 12:10 pm ET

Gas was $2.21 when the democrats took over Congress.

Can we really afford a democrat President?

Ty   June 10th, 2008 12:08 pm ET

We need to support Obama's plan even if that entails raising taxes. Why? Because of Bush's short-sighted policies. We are in more debt than we have ever been and a balanced budget is no longer in sight. We have to pay now so we do not transfer the mismanagement of our debt to our children. Republicans are thinking about now and me only. We need to be proactive and think about what's next for all Americans. Real life example, I have lived in Minnesota for 4 years under Republican rule and ever since, the Wakota Bridge across the Mississippi River has been under construction causing traffic havoc. 4 years for a 2-mile bridge and it's still going nowhere. I am willing to pay an extra tax increase if I can help get that bridge completed in 3 months so I can spend less on gas and save time getting to work. Oh that's right, forgot to mention, I-35.

Kenneth M   June 10th, 2008 12:08 pm ET

Obama wants to reduce the price of gas and stem the tide of forclosures. McCain says he does not know what he wants to do. So far his plan is to oppose every beer both forgien and domestic.

Asian4Hillary   June 10th, 2008 12:08 pm ET

I trust McCain to fix our economy than NONAME. NONAME is all about his self. McCain will be the next President. The SELECTED nominee of DNC, party leaders and superdelegates is UNTRUSTWORTHY, ANTI-AMERICAN, RACIST.

Pathetic GOP, pathetic !

No matter what… I will do my small part to "stick a fork" in the imposter, Obama, who stole the nomination- with the help of a corrupt DNC, the celebrity sway, and the media bias.

Jeff, NY   June 10th, 2008 12:06 pm ET

Remember, John McCain will "veto every single BEER!" lol

Oh and to clear things up, when Obama misspoke and said that there have been "57 states", he really meant 57 primary election contests.

No one speaks perfectly, but let's not forget the most notorious butcher of the English language: George W. Bush!

JB   June 10th, 2008 12:05 pm ET

McCain's idea of cutting spending is vetoing beer… with a Sharpie!

What world leader uses a fat-tipped Sharpie to sign documents? I mean, he actually fumbled in his pocket to show us the almighty permanent marker. It's not like he happened to be holding one and was waving around like a pointer. No, he wants us all to see The Veto Sharpie.

Obama will help fix the economy by ending the costly war that McCain supports.

kim portland, oregon   June 10th, 2008 12:03 pm ET

this is seriosuly becoming a BIG problem. on a daily basis mccain makes these kinds of errors and it shows how overwhelming this campaigning is for him.

by his own admission, mccain has a lack of knowledge on the most important issues facing this country today—the middle east and the economy. and these constant brain flusters are a very real and serious problem.

i worry about his mental faculties. the hard part hasnt even BEGUN and mccain is already this flustered and forgetful—-on top of being so misinformed—this is not a good sign.

in these volatile times we CANNOT afford to have a pro-war president whose mental stability is not in top form. it would be DANGEROUS to have a confused, misspeaking, flustered and flubbing president.

we've just lived through 8 years of an idiot speaker, we CANNOT have 4 more years with a bumbling, flustered president.

with all due respect for his service to this country, there is NO CHANCE WHATSOEVER that the torture and inhumane experiences he had 40 years ago didnt affect him mentally. it's a part of his well-known anger issues and these other mental issues as well.

mccain is too misinformed and his mental stability is too compromised for him to ever become president. it would be dangerous to us all.

ANGIE   June 10th, 2008 12:01 pm ET

well i dont see how mccain can help with the economy admitting he did not know much about it not to mention he has agreed with everything the bush admin has done in the last 7 yrs never opposed bush at all and now we are suppose to belive he knows about the economy and is gonna make it better yeah right thats funny so funny this man will not change a thing as president we can expect the same if not worse he will never surrender in iraq he will start with iran bush all over again dont you think!!!

Dems are done   June 10th, 2008 11:59 am ET

It is no longer about party or issues.

It is about freedom and justice, a fair and unbiased press and the right to vote.

It is about values now.

Obama blew it for himself by the HATE he fanned in his followers.

yen   June 10th, 2008 11:59 am ET

To vote for McCain is just as good to vote for G. Bush. Bush has failed in everything he has done. Of course those who enjoyed themselves during Bushes time will vote for him. But how many are they. Just few. Beware Americans don't make the same mistake again. I will not. Vote Obama.

Tony C.   June 10th, 2008 11:58 am ET

David Newport, OR   June 10th, 2008 11:58 am ET

yep… the way to fix our economy is that I will veto every single beer w/ an earmark that is placed on my desk. Disgrunted Democratic voters…this is who you would vote for?

The best McCain can do is to create fear. Typical. I wonder how he plans to pay for the war we will continue to fight if he is elected? I know…no more $$ for education…educated people are dangerous and can't be as easily manipulated. How about no more $$ for Social Security?

Silence NOW!   June 10th, 2008 11:58 am ET

To the devout Obama supporters who fill these blogs with threats against the HRC people by saying HRC supporters MUST vote for Obama or Hillary will take the blame for his loss.

Are you so blind?

The entire nation, democrats and republicans alike realize now that HRC is the FAR better leader.

When Obama loses, Obama and his big ego will take the blame.

You haters for Obama will get your fair share of blame for losing Obama many votes.

The "great"- but dirty campaign he ran to destroy his competition will get the blame.

The DNC, the celebrity bandwagon to sway the vote, and a blatantly biased media will get the blmae.

HILLARY CLINTON? SHE IS NOW LEGEND. HRC is th only democrat many of us will EVER vote for again.

Wise up and stop your fearmongering and bully tactics. Isn't that OFF message anyway?

Hillary Clinton will needs to prove she is serious about be Obama running mate. She needs to show some humility. To start needs to apologize for her vote on the Iraq war. She needs to make a pledge not to accept federal PAC’s and lobbyist funds.

Chris, Middletown, CT   June 10th, 2008 11:55 am ET

As a Republican….McCain is not wrong – the majority of our GDP is spent on entitlements…the war in Iraq is only 1.5% of the GDP….but…the cowboy mentality is hurting consumer confidence…and this needs to stop….this is why I am supporting Obama for President…I don't agree with his policies…or the universal healthcare deal….are are Americans….and the entitlement mentality needs to stop….but….its more important to bring us together now…..(keep Hillary away) -

Are you better off today than you were eight years ago? If so vote McSame or don't vote at all or you can really waist your vote and write in Hillary. Hillary is no fool she will vote Obama.
Bitter people get mad and vote against their own best interest. He told no lies. They get mad at the truth because they can't handle the truth. Maybe it's not a good thing to have a woman as president, because if a world leader does not agree with her she just might react like the Hillary supporters on here.

Thanks, CNN, for posting a story about REAL ISSUES, not fluff. I think I speak for a lot of other voters when I say enough is enough with the so-called "news reports" that have been cycling through the media these days. This is the type of thing we want to hear about – how the presidential candidates propose to improve our economy.

Andy J, NY   June 10th, 2008 11:51 am ET

Tax tax tax then spend spend spend. Redistribution of wealth.

Its not rocket science to figure out that if you tax companies more, they are going to respond by raising prices, cutting jobs, and other moves of that sort in order to maintain their profit margin.

This is America, where all you need is hard work and education in order to be successful. You do not need hard work, education, and the government in order to make your life possible.

I find it so funny that liberals will say "Keep your laws off my body" when framing the abortion debate, but what i say is "Keep your laws off my body and keep your hands out of my pockets!"
