The green background behind McCain during recent speeches has drawn criticism.

(CNN) – Following a harsh press assessment of John McCain's recent formal speeches delivered before a teleprompter, the Arizona senator is returning to a format in which he is decidedly more comfortable.

McCain is slated to hold a town-hall with voters in Philadelphia Wednesday and hold town halls with voters for the rest of the week. McCain’s event in Philadelphia was originally planned to be a scripted speech, but the campaign scrapped those plans after a wave of harsh critiques over a bright green screen that backed him last Tuesday, and the stiffness of his delivery when using a teleprompter.

Veteran For Obama:

Dude, you really need to come up with a better name than 'Clintonites'. LOL

Obamabot was very original and true.

It's like something out of a horror flick…zombies walking with their hands out saying over and over "Yes we can".

What if?:

Your racist comment is pathetic. The 90% of the black vote went to Obama – are they racist because the didn't vote Hillary? I don't think so…but when the roles are reversed you play that card.

Obama attended a radical anti-white church for 20 years. It didn't affect his zombie base one bit. Now, if Hillary attended a KKK church (god forbid) for 20 years, then said she didn't realize it's message was a negative one, she would be been pulled over the coals – no excuse would be acceptable and I would be one not to accept it. There would be riots on the streets. Believe me.

Racism is a part of this race but you need to point your finger in another direction.

BIFF, BIFFINGTON...   June 11th, 2008 11:23 am ET

Why is it that Obama can get bashed by Hillary and McCain supporters simultaneously and incessantly …… But when we Obama supporters fight BACK… (the key word being…. BACK)…

Obama defenders are the ones labled (by these same attackers)…

as bashing their candidate…. or nasty… or whatever….

I just thought every once-in-a-while, a RATIONAL question out to be thrown in the mix of all of this non-stop hating…

Annette   June 11th, 2008 11:23 am ET

Can't wait to see and hear him talk with the real folks that matter. This is a person with all that experience gain over the years, you know, has a lot of explaining to do. Because a lot of what we are experiencing right now, was on his watch as a senator. McCain needs to be held accountable for his 95% of the time voting against some of the same issues, you folks are upset with and he says he is for. We need an explanation.

noracist   June 11th, 2008 11:23 am ET

Obama is promising us things he doesn’t have, or can’t control. He sounds so ridiculous talking, that many people are turning off the TV saying, “You got to be kidding”.
Obama turned election campaign in a comedy. The day of voting I have two options.
Vote for John McCain, or
Go Fishing.

election watcher   June 11th, 2008 11:23 am ET

Anyone else here ever watch those treasure hunter shows?
Obama is like a flashy new gift box in the store window that contains nothing but worthless trinkets.
McCain is more like the weather worn trunk in the attic which contains treasure.

kinglywarrior   June 11th, 2008 11:23 am ET

So he wants to run a country, but he is no good on the big stage…hmmmm, I gotta think that being able to speak correctly and intelligently to lots of people on tv and around the world is a pretty big part of being President.

Slider   June 11th, 2008 11:22 am ET

So, McCain puts people to sleep, eh?

How asleep will you Democrats be when these leftists in our Congress raise your taxes to the point where you can't save, can't invest, and can't afford the things you do today?

How asleep will you be when the press will be forced to do what they did with the Clintons; expose all of their shady friends; watch as current and former administration officials get marched off to jail; and expose the ruse that they've been covering up just so you lemmings would continue to remain liberal and vote Democrat?

Sleep now, clowns; pay for it later.

Most of his gaffes are made during these so called "townhall" meetings. Remember the 100 year war, the Iran/ Iraq mix up. I am really looking fwd to these debates. I already bought extra popcorn and cans of diet coke, my friends!

Charles   June 11th, 2008 11:20 am ET

So he's supposed to inspire confidence in the American people at State of the Union addresses? Or how about when speaking at the UN? That speech wasn't at a pressing time and was more frivolity than anything else and he's nervous then? There were less people at that event than at most town hall meetings!! He's not presidential and will never inspire the nation and the world to want to make the changes needed to move us in a new and better direction. Demeanor and delivery and inspiration have a great deal to do with being president.

Look Byond   June 11th, 2008 11:19 am ET

AMAZING, THIS GUY CANNOT CONNECT TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE, AND THE ONLY WAY HE KNOW HOW IS BY GIVING SPEECHES TO TOWN HALL MEETINGS.

WELCOME FELLOW AMERICANS, THE NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

"SENATOR BARACK OBAMA"

He can not make 60,6% of his voting calls in the Senate. How can he get up at 3:00 in the morning to handle an emergency. If you do not believe the 60.6 figure check his voting record.

TXBad1   June 11th, 2008 11:19 am ET

Obama in a rural town hall meeting, sounds good so he can be asked real questions that directly effect the people and there Life's!

Kate, Atlanta   June 11th, 2008 11:18 am ET

Hey, don't blame the "liberal" media – Fox blasted McCain's speech just as much. Face it, the old man doesn't have what it takes.

Obama-Junkie, IL   June 11th, 2008 11:17 am ET

The problem is not the stage set-up or the teleprompter, it is the CANDIDATE! One only needs to look at how George W. Bush aged from 2000 to 2004. Once a candidate becomes President, it is almost like they age in dog years, one presidential year equals seven dog years. At 73 years of age, McCain will look "weak" and "feeble" as president.

No policy details worthy of mentioning seems to come out of McCain's town hall meetings. Only gaffes and anti-war protests, seem worthy of reporting on!

liz   June 11th, 2008 11:17 am ET

I am so tired of hearing disgruntled women say that they will vote for McCain instead of Obama. My words to are this: please go ahead and in your anger vote for a party that will continue to send our children to Iraq, a party that wants to overturn a women's right to choose and finally a party that has left this country in a economical mess that will take generations to recover from. Yes, in your infinite wisdom go ahead and vote McCain and live with the consequences. Hillary lost and it is unfortunate, but we must make our decision on who to vote for based on who will be better for our country at this critical moment. I really don't think a man who wants to continue the failed policies of the Bush Admin is a wise choice. ( I am a 42 yr old woman who supported Hillary)

Angst against Bush as rationale to move to Obama. Let's break that down:

Gas in 2000 when bush took office $1.40
Major Terrorist attacks on US soil before Bush 0
The US Dollar before Bush (very strong – tops in the world!
Hey, you could buy a house and keep it
Travel oversees (I have done some of that) fun!
Before Bush Americans owned American how about now. China
Before Bush we had a surplus of money in the Government now trillions in the hole

I can go all day… Key Lay, Katrina, Haliburton "no bid contract", money for oil in Iraq (never happened)

He has done nothing about the man who toppled the WTC

Angst – Yeah I think it is time

Richard, FL   June 11th, 2008 11:16 am ET

Before McCain gets away from speeches that are written for him and has to speak for himself, he needs to work with Lieberman to learn the difference between Sunnis and Shias and figure out how many troops we have in Iraq.

Scott, Newport KY   June 11th, 2008 11:16 am ET

John McCain is the genuine article. He's not slick or smooth. He's not a performer. He'll be the kind of President we need.

Yep, gotta say along with many others that last Tuesday's speech by McCain was about the worst I've ever heard. The green background did him absolutely no favors. His smile seemed forced, and he would make a statement and wait for applause that did not come, LOL.

McCain replied, "No, but that's not too important."

Obama asked the press to move on, past ALL his issues and they obeyed.

Obama made two or three speeches and admonished us all to NOT parse his words… and now he will be perfect.

Poor McCain he don't stand a chance against the CHOSEN ONE

To those angry Democrats and Republicans posing as Democrat who keep telling us they are going to vote for McCain if Hillary is not VP. We heard you the first 300 times. If you are expecting a call from Obama to change your mind, you will corner the market on roll-over minutes and that large inhospitable piece of real estate will freeze over. Obama will not submit to political blackmail. Either you get on the train or vote for McCain. We don’t care which. I am 99.99% sure Hillary will not be on the ticket. So get over yourself. It's not her message, it’s the messenger. Hillary has too much baggage. Republicans want Hillary because she is an easy target with Whitewater, Paul vs. Clinton, Bill’s recent infidelity accusations, etc. If you think McCain will continue Hillary’s mission, then knock yourself out. We all know McCain gives anemic speeches. He does well in town hall meetings. Now he wants the entire campaign in town hall meeting format—Ten to be exact. That should bring all us to our knees. I can’t believe Obama agreed to make McCain look presidential.

Find some valid reason for not liking the guy. And btw, vote for the McCain guy. He is a real genius on foreign policy. The 12 billion dollar a month business in Iraq is simply the work of brilliant men.

AJ   June 11th, 2008 11:08 am ET

The press have already anointed Obama as the second coming. They didn't give Senator Clinton a break and they sure won’t give Senator McCain a break. The democratic leadership along with the press has been attempting to influence this election since Obama first announced his candidacy. This has not been an election cycle to be proud of for the democrats. I have not supported a republican for any office in 30 years, but I will either support McCain this election cycle or stay at home. I refuse to have a candidate I do not believe in shoved down my throat. Obama will be a disaster.

Sexy   June 11th, 2008 11:08 am ET

It is pitiful that some of you can't think you way out of a paper bag. John McCain will continue Bush failed economic and foreign policies. If you like Bush policies then please vote for John McCain. If you think we are better off since Bush took office then please vote John McCain.

I think John McCain is suffering from the first stage of "Dementia" and it is showing. I know I wouldn't want a president who has that illness. No one wants to admit that something is seriously wrong with John McCain. The republican has chosen a candidate who is suffering from "Dementia" and he is going to lose based on the continue gaffes on a daily basis. If the republicans are smart then would chose another candidate fast. John McCain suppose to have all this foreign policy experience but every time he is making all kind of mistakes and gaffes when he is discussing foreign policy. John McCain is not looking good and everybody knows it. Only the one who hate Barack Obama would want a president who seem to have a problem with "Dementia". I guess they want to see America good name go from bad to worse with John McCain. Now that is kind of stupid since Bush has done such a bad number that it is going to take years to un-do the damage he has done to us all over the world.

IDU   June 11th, 2008 11:08 am ET

I watched the speech in its entirety; McCain will need to get more substance on the issues, he is as vague as obama when talking about the details of his policies.

The lack of energy in McCain's presence may seem to be a superficial matter but imagine about that voter waiting for hours at polls to vote for a candidate which they are not all the excited about, McCain's team should very concerned.

Daniel from FL   June 11th, 2008 11:07 am ET

How is this man going to be president if he can't deliver a speech? Is it going to be this painful to watch his State of the Union addresses? Presidents have to give speeches ALL THE TIME! People need to realize that just because someone is as old as dirt, does not mean they are ENTITLED to the presidency. We have had presidents in the past with little experience (Kennedy) and presidents with more experience (Bush). We see where the "more experience" got us!

And how stupid are you women who supported Hillary to not only vote for a man who is against your interests, but a man who left his loyal wife and kids after his wife was crippled only to have affairs and marry a millionaire blond half his age? Yeah vote for Bush 3! That's really sticking to Obama for daring to beat your "Queen" fair and square. What a bunch of losers.

Marie   June 11th, 2008 11:07 am ET

So what? He had a problem coordinating his pace and delivery with the scroll of the teleprompter…why is this news?

I have seen many professional TV anchors have the same problem. They stumble over their words, pronounce words wrong, get tongue tied, and then to recover they ask for a commercial break to get things in order. Heck I have even seen/heard them deliver comments on video tapes that were about completely different topics.

Laura   June 11th, 2008 11:05 am ET

In February 1991, the Senate Ethics Committee found McCain and Glenn to be the least blameworthy of the five senators. (McCain and Glenn attended the meetings but did nothing else to influence the regulators.) McCain was guilty of nothing more than "poor judgment," the committee said, and declared his actions were not "improper nor attended with gross negligence." McCain considered the committee's judgment to be "full exoneration," and he contributed $112,000 (the amount raised for him by Keating) to the U.S. Treasury.

All you need to do is look up Keating 5 on the internet and it bring up the end results as shown above.

Okay McCain showed some "poor judgment" but Obama has had his moments of "poor judgment" too! So I don't think that something that happened 20 years ago should keep someone from moving on with their lives. (By the way the other 4 senators including John Glenn of Ohio were all dems)

So, just think twice before smearing someone….when smears can go both ways!

People need to realize that journalism is a business. The days of journalistic integrity are pretty much gone especially in TV and on-line. Editors are so focused on ratings that they have to chose (or in many cases make up) stories that get people riled up.

Don't be fooled with inflamatory media coverage. Watch some international news sometimes to see the difference in quality of "reporting." The old addage, "If it bleeds it leads" is alive and well in trash journalism.

This election is a perfect example of how we need to revamp the process. We ended up with 2 candidates the public does not want … GREAT! How did that happen ??

All primaries should be held on the same day in every state with media blackout till the last poll is closed.

We would have seen entirely different results if that were the case.

So many "scams" and irregularities were seen in this year's primary season, that many never realized could even occur. Like the switch hitting republicans voting democratic to skew the results. And they werent listening to RUSH cause they voted Obama as the candidate least likely to win against McCain. And where did all these NEW VOTERS come from?? Did they drag them off the streets? And were they even legal citizens, as most states dont even ask for ID.

Lots of questions; lots of problems with our world.

I couldn't help but feel sorry for Senator McCain. He's a patriot, a war hero, and he's in over his depth. I'm afraid that we will see many unhappy senior moments from him during the campaign. Laughing in Oregon   June 11th, 2008 10:56 am ET

Would someone please tell McCain to stop smiling! He looks ridiculous and scary. He has no inner warmth and it comes through loud and clear. He has no sincerity. He looks awful.

Nicole in NE   June 11th, 2008 10:56 am ET

McCain is a moderate? Laughable at best. Maybe 4 – 8 years ago, but he has decided to walk conservative lines. He votes with Bush 90% of the time (FACT) is that a moderate? no, I don't think so.

Our country is going to crap and we are going to hand it over to someone who follows the SAME failed policies?

I care about this country and the people in it – so I for one cannot vote for someone who keeps tax cuts for wealthiest, continues to spend billions on a continued FAILED war in Iraq and someone who voted against the Katrina probe. He cares about average Americans?

I THINK NOT!

Mike from Westchester   June 11th, 2008 10:56 am ET

LOL! I guess his reading skills aren't so great. Then again, perhaps his handlers figure he can lie more effectively in the "town hall" format. Let's see………………….

– voted with Bush 90+% of the time and now wants us to believe he is actually very different
– promised only to appoint conservative judges out of one side of his mouth, while promising a moderate, bipartisan approach out of the other side of his mouth (don't believe it – maverick equals unpredictable, not moderate)
– has not voted in favor of even one piece environmental legislation since 2005 and now claims to be an environmentalist
– said the Bush tax cuts bothered his conscience and now wants to make the permanent
– is arguing against an Obama tax increase that is a creation of his own staff – and not Obama's real tax plan
– says foreign policy is his big forte and then makes one Shiite/Sunni and Iraq/Iran gaff after another
– says he hates war, but is clearly against liberal use of diplomacy to prevent it – is still in the "axis of evil" neo-con mode where we needlessly create adversarial relationships with other nations
– is trying to paint Obama as a weak tax-and-spend liberal, when Obama's policies do not support that claim – same as in 2000 and 2004 and look where that got us

Not this time.

Cynthia   June 11th, 2008 10:55 am ET

Will going back to the town hall format help? I doubt it. If by some mishap he becomes President – I can guarantee you all station ratings will go down when he does his Presidential addresses because most people won't watch and those that do will fall asleep.

K   June 11th, 2008 10:55 am ET

Of course he gets bad press…he's a Republican! Would we expect any less of our biased liberal media? They dictated the Democratic nomination and now they're out to dictate the general election. Because apparently we do elect presidents now on their ability to 'smooth' an audience with the words 'hope' and 'change' when they don't have anything else to bring to the table. Oh, I'm sorry, and when they're 'cute', 'fresh', and 'new' not to mention their ability to engage in the time-honored tradition of "fist bumping" while not looking 'too white'. Nice…

Nick Mann   June 11th, 2008 10:55 am ET

If a good teleprompter reader made a good president then we should elect Connie Chung or Geraldo……..If Obama does not have a teleprompter is will expose his lack of knowledge on all the issues and his lack of experience. Obama is the equivalent of a good TV evangelist….and he has suckered all the weak minds into sending him money.

CB   June 11th, 2008 10:54 am ET

John McCain is just buying time for the reps. so this year will come to an end.

In my opinion, after 8 years of Bush. The Republican's knew they would loose this election year. So they put a sacrifice out here name (John McCain). Why should they waste a good candidate this election year knowing they are going to lose big time? He probably want even be able to get a VP to run with him.

"Only Obama is not scrutinized by the press.

Everyone else had to contend with the harsh criticism of the past."

#######################################################

You're kidding, right? I think everybody knows that Obama's past and present are scrutinized on a daily basis by all the media outlets – especially Fox News, which might as well be called the Obama Bashing Network. I don't think they even cover McCain on Fox anymore.

I think both are covered. It just depends on who you are backing that you zero in on it. McCain and Obama have had the past brought up and it will come up more now that it is heating up.

I never noticed how yellow his teeth are. It was glaringly obvious against that god-awful green background.

I know its a very little thing – but we Americans are ruthless about our perfect white teeth. His handlers failed him. Bring on the Queer Eye guys – he needs a makeover!

Oh, yeah – and did you all noticed how many baldheads were in his audience? Nothing against bald guys – I am married to one. But if you're choosing a candidate – would rather party with all those baldheads? Or all the cool cats at the Obama rally?

Seriously – personally, I don't care about appearances. My first choice was Richardson! But it is a cold hard fact of politics that appearances matter. Can you say, Kennedy v. Nixon?

Yeah "catjax" McCain seems to have all the answers. You must be rich, pro-life, pro unequal pay for women, pro war, pro tax breaks for big oil. Those would be good reasons to vote for McCain. Sit down and take a deep breath. Unless you are a wealthy republican voting for McCain because you are mad is dumb. You are casting your vote for the leader of your country.

Hillary Supporter to McCain   June 11th, 2008 10:51 am ET

Good idea. McCain is a little stiff, but more substantive than Obama. Times have changed for some women and the constant threatening montra from the left of Republicans changing Roe V. Wade, Supreme Count appointments, gay rights, i.e., see what California just did to support gay rights, which I do, and etc., will not scare me away from McCain. He supports other initatives that I support, so here's to the DNC and their inequitable treatment of Hillary. As to all of the young women that voted for Obama, you will find that a hip, good-looking black man does not necessary translate to a an experienced and electable candidate as Ms. Clinton would have. Yes, I believe, women can sometimes forget what they are voting for. I remember when I was considerably younger and looked at John Kennedy with no real knowledge or understanding what he or the Democratic party represented, just that he looked good and gave nice speeches; sound familiar?

I ALWAYS SAY ALL WHAT MC-BUSH HAS TO SHOW THE AMERICAN PEOPLE IS A Q.B.E. DIPLOMA (QUALIFICATION BY EXPERIENCE). AND NOTHING EALS.

BUT WHERE THAT DIPLOMA COME FROM? NO ONE KNOWS MAY BE IN VIETNAM OR OUT OF THE OLD AGE EXPERIENCE.

AS FOR MC-BUSH SUPPORTER'S, AM SHAW U GUYS ALREADY KNOW THE REASON WHY YOUR GUY IS NOT GOING TO WIN COME NOVEMBER DUE TO YOUR STUPID CHOICE.

BUT MAKE NO MISTAKE U ALL WILL FIND YOUR SELVES ONE DAY THINKING OR TALKING ABOUT THIS WHAT WENT WRONG?

AND WHEN THAT HAPPENS, HERE IS MY QUESTION. IF THE THINK IS THE END, WHAT GET THE BEGINNING?

Rave   June 11th, 2008 10:51 am ET

McCain is nothing but dumb talk… He seriously needs his head checked.
We are almost in a recession and all this guy can think of is finding more wars and making his lobbyists profit from some contracts that suck up all our tax money.
This is the problem… Everyone understands we have been through the worst 8 years term and one of the main reasons is this war. Now John McCain and Cindy McCain want to profit from an other war.. Iran or Duran… Who cares if Iraq and Iran have democracy. You free them and leave the country, they will find themselves an other Phsyco dictator.
Those who vote for McCain, dont complain if all your savings are lost due to some corporate fraud, your job lost due to layoffs, you spend $200 to fillup you truck with gas, school dropouts, no college funds…
This guy (McCain) is only capable of leading this country into a disaster.
OBAMA (2008 -16)

Slate should begin a McCain death watch similar to that they did for Hillary. We all have to get old some day, but the mess Bush is leaving behind will be to much for McSame. Hillary Supporter for Obama   June 11th, 2008 10:51 am ET

The problem with McCain isn't just his delivery but his so-called "substance." He hasn't got any. For all the talk about "empty suit" Obama, all we've heard from McCain is the stupid gas tax holiday that most every economist on the planet thinks is a stupid idea. Oh, and Iraq. He still thinks that keeps us safe from terrorists. Just ignore all the terrorists that were created as a result of the war.

That's his "substance", and it's not much.

But yeah, the media loves Obama, which is why they trot out Jeremiah Wright whenever they can.

Jerry in Boston   June 11th, 2008 10:51 am ET

So let me get this straight.

McCain is being critisized for preferring the town-hall format where he can take questions from voters (God-forbid) and not being particularly good at delivering speeches?

Nobody sees the problem here?

Obama isn't a big fan of answering questions about his policies or HOW he's going to implement them, but he can do a great impression of MLK and you don't see that as an issue?

When Obama speaks about ending divisiveness, about vigorous debate and unity, what he really means that if you do not agree with him, you are being divisive. If you are not one of his swooning Obamabots you are not displaying the correct idea of unity and if you want to oppose his ideas then you are not engaging in vigorous debate, but are instead attacking him.

He seeks to de-legitimize and therby stifle any kind of dissent. Obama has continuously sought to stifle any dissent aimed at him by labeling any criticism as a distraction, as divisive or as cynical. He understands that the primary means of limiting the questions for which he would otherwise be forced to answer is to create a media environment in which those questions are not asked. He's succeeded.

DeeJam - Los Angeles   June 11th, 2008 10:51 am ET

I don't think normal people thought twice about the green screen behind McBush. He is what he is. A war veteren and POW, a 71 year old man, and a politician for life. He has some qualities that I can see why people will vote for him. However, he is running at the wrong time against the wrong candidate. He will lose and Obama will win. Let's not worry about what color his screen is unless it's bloody red and he's talking about Iraq.

"Not to offend those who might be offended, but this speech is a mash and tough to digest. You have to get through the self-congratulatory praise of independence and commander-in-chief pose from the Senate, then you have to try to follow the inconsistency of some of his big-government ideas vs. his anti-big-government rhetoric, and his inconsistency even on his supposed strength — the surge in Iraq vs. closing GITMO and conferring additional rights on the detainees." Like cottage cheese in lime-green Jello, he looked awful, and sounded awful.

Charlotte   June 11th, 2008 10:50 am ET

I think McCain is best without a script, unlike Obama who really needs one. I will not vote for McCain or Obama. I will write Hillary Clinton on my ballot, as she is my choice for President. She is quick on her feet and can give a prepared speech. The DNC, Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi, Ted Kennedy, Kerry and others have successfully secured the nomination for Obama. They have not secured my vote for Obama. I have a gut feeling something is not right about him, and I trust my gut on this one.

the swords edge   June 11th, 2008 10:49 am ET

Well… McCain was not my first choice- HRC was.

But since I can never endorse the foul play that we witnessed in the democratic primary—Obama encouraging republicans to mess with the primary to oust HRC- by being democrats for a day.

And the republicans did so… because HRC was the more formidable threat to them- and NOW they get Obama. I bet they are sure sorry.

As a lifelong Dem, I do not care for tampering with the vote in that way…nor the DNC fixing the nomination for Obama, Nor the VERY openly hateful to HRC media, and the biased reporting.

So now, as poor a choice as he is, McCain will get my PROTEST VOTE. Maybe a conservative supreme court, overturning Roe vs Wade, an a draft will be a big enough price to pay to restore fairness, legitimacy and equality to the process

These guys are politicians with political machines to handle the press. Thus if the press was not doing a proper job you would hear about it loud and clear. EG The bad press of President Bush is self inflicted. Media stunts like the "Mission Accomplished" sign shows that. Do not fall for the experience argument. Both candidates have never been President, thus both have no experience being President. Neither did Hillary Clinton, but she did have advantage of watching the President in action, as first lady.
McCain and his campaign team will lose the general campaign. Having had this period of advantage, he has not created any cut through message and momentum. The Republicans stand for dog eat dog survival of the fittest capitalism. Democrats stand for some government intervention so that first world nation can afford first world health care. Here in Australia we have universal health care as does most of Europe Canada Taiwan Japan and host of other countries.
Australian Combat Troops have left Iraq. Vote for Obama and US Troops will too.

I find it funny that many O backers will point to McCain's age and say he should not be president but will not look at O age and lack of leadership and say the same thing.

I will pick McCain with his age over Obama's lack of leadership.

I am sure that some will even see/say that I am racist for not liking Obama. To those I say get over the race issue b/c to many it is not an issue. Just b/c you are not for Obama does not make you a racist.

Everyone will make the pick in Nov. and we will see what happens. And if McCain loses I am fine with that. If Obama loses just remember what many O backers are tell HRC backer now. I see them saying that see lost the race and move on. So just remember what you say.

Frankly I am tired of CNN giving a slanted view of the political candidates. All I hear is Obama Obama Obama, and its sickening and I am not even a John McCain Supporter– at this point. Okay its making history…first black man to be nominated —blah blah blah. What about first woman president???? Yes I am a Hillary supporter-and I wouldnt be too sure about Hillary votes going to Obama. I think CNN needs to give a fair playing field to both candidates, after all Obama is not running against himself, is he? If you are going to run YOUTUBE sound bites on McCain do the same with Obama. The irony of all ironies would be that we elect a president with the coincindentally close name of the most sought after terrorist in the world– who was reported to be responsible for killing over 3 thousand people in NY. Also, lets not forget about how we do not hear about Obama's ministers anymore with their subversive, militant and anti-american sermons at the pulpit. Meanwhile Obama was quoted to say that Rev. Wright was like a family member. Some family member!! Let me say this, if you are listening to this "so called" preacher for 20 years and you are going to tell me you dont believe a word he says? He is not telling the truth. That plays on the minds of the American people and we are not stupid. Like I said earlier, give fair representation to both candidates without slanting your view one way or another, just report the facts.

After all of the anti-democracy, pro-war, pro-big-business BS that the Republicans have crammed down our throats during the last 8 years, there HAS TO BE A PRICE TO PAY! The people of American cannot be allowed to forget that it was the Republican Party that got us into this mess, and they have to pay the piper at election time. The Republicans have out-and-out insulted the American people with their "make their own reality" approach, which is nothing more than saying "if we can get enough talking heads to say it, then it's real".

The Republicans could run Jesus Christ as a candidate and I'd still vote for the other guy.

Abby,

some objectivity please.

Obama is CONSTANTLY saying that he did not say this or that thing.

And there are tapes of his flip-flopping all over the place.

Selma? Meeting without preconditions? Can't denounce Wright- must denounce Wright? JFK met his father at the airport? What about all the negatives about HRC whom he now praise?

THE DIFFERENCE IS THAT THE PRESS IS NOT INTERESTED IN MAKING AN ISSUE OF OBAMA'S FLAWS, LIES, HYPOCRISY.

LB   June 11th, 2008 10:42 am ET

I feel sorry for the Republicans. They all seem to think just because they are registered as Republican they have to vote for McCain. It is a free country, vote for the person you best think will serve the interests on the country. I personally don't think McCain will do this. His issues are just like Bush's present issues which means 4 more years of the same as we have now. The Rep. just shot down a bill to charge more to the gas companies and give a break to the American people. More of the same from a Republican. Just remember if you vote for McCain YOU will be paying $10 a gallon for gas by the end of his 1st year as President. Hope you people don't plan to eat or feed your kids.

Randy - Denver   June 11th, 2008 10:42 am ET

Well this is a smart move on his part, play to your strengths.

I look forward to a good campaign, not what I saw in the primaries, but one where the candidates use their strengths to point out their strengths, and honorable discussion about the issues. not sure if the parties will allow this but I can always dream.

I'll tell you what's great about that speech on that night!

McSame and his gang thought that was one way for him to jump in and get some air time!

McSame and his gang also thought they would try and steal some of Obama's thunder on his victory night!

At first I thought —-mummm how dare McSame!

But after Obama's speech and comparing to McSame's speech and night… without planning it… Obama beat McSame!

Even FOX News was laughing at McSame!

Ha,ha,ha,ha………………………… McSame and his gang looked like fools and now realizes that they are in a world of trouble…

God… and that green backdrop and stealing Obama's logo-statement… Leadership we can believe in! They need a new speech writer too!

I am suprized at what I am reading from the McCain camp. It sounds like a lot of excuses and lowering of the bar. McCain is getting too much scrutiny, MSM likes Obama, Hillary was treated unfair. You guys sound like black folks when welfare was cut off. Shame on McCain! The fact is Obama has watched you and figured out how to help you implode. You dont like your candidate, the war has failed, you spend more then Democrates. See the reason nothing you do stick on Obama is because he is new to you, your not new to him. He knows what you are going to do and how you will respond before you do. Look at it this way, in Vage they say Always bet on Black.

Val, Atlanta, Ga   June 11th, 2008 10:41 am ET

Norma you and McCaine must be the same age only an elderly person would say what you just said now thats funny, you really don't like America if you think his judgement is good, that man can't even read from a script. we would be the laughing stock of the world.

Don't you just love these Republicant schills invading every topic with a non-relevant tirade against Obama every chance they get, mostly posing as former Clinton supporters saying they'll vote for McCain now.

That's the oldest trick in the book Faux-newsers; impersonate one enemy to attack the other. See, they must resort to these childish attacks because they're on a sinking ship, fighting a loosing battle, scorching and burning on their way down. Pair this with their constant misinformation, strawman arguments, and attack-the-victim mentality and you really get some insight on the hateful Repubicant mind.

These are not the people we want leading our country. They had their chance and they blew it. Let's take our country back.

Jason   June 11th, 2008 10:41 am ET

It's a sad time in this country when honored vets and respected elders are called names and ageist remarks from their fellow citizens. Where has the respect gone, folks? The anti-Bush sentiments are strong and some founded, I can understand that. But there is no need to resort to "Rocking Chair"-type comments in this race. I thought the Obama supporters were above this "muck" in the political arena. Or perhaps they just talk the talk but walk a much different path.

We've seen it before, and this election cycle is no different. "Change" and "uniter" are two catch words that suddenly bring smiles to Americans. Bush used them in 2000, and now Obama is doing the same. Wake up people.

Scott, Ann Arbor, MI   June 11th, 2008 10:40 am ET

I would suggest that instead of abandoning a certain format and appear like a stiff techno-loser (which he probably is) that he use this time before the Democratic Convention to master a teleprompter. Until the Dem Convention the media will be focusing on Obama's running mate, Hillary's debt, etc. and McCain will have the best chance to improve his "aura" before he truly is going head to head against Obama. Running from the problem will not strike most of us as being Presidential.

boo-yah   June 11th, 2008 10:40 am ET

It seems to me that if you look at the news coverage from the past two weeks it is pretty clear McCain is getting a free ride from the press. The only negative stories I have seen have been about Obama. Besides the puke green background thing when is the last time you saw a story on CNN that was negative towards McCain? His campaign has a lot of crooked stuff going on that never sees the light of day.

I think the "liberal media" bias is overexagerated by conservatives so they can have something to rally around no matter how untrue it is. Remeber how they all rallied around WMD's?

Ex-pat in London   June 11th, 2008 10:40 am ET

I wonder if CNN, ABC, MSNBC, CBS and NBC will EVER decide to do an indepth investigation on Obama. Given his experience and beliefs, it shouldn't take long to do.

Obama has no substance. His supporters have nothing but their angst against Bush as their rationale for their support for Obama. What unbelievable ignorance!

felicia   June 11th, 2008 10:38 am ET

i cannot wait until McCain and Obama have a debate. Then the public will see that John McCain is entirely too old to be the president. I am a democrat but for a republican, I kinda like the guy. But I would NEVER vote for him because I don't believe in his politics, but he seems like a nice old man. I have a soft spot for senior citizens.

But seriously, think about this, if he can't give a speech here in the US for people who are considering voting for him…then how in the heck will be able to deliver a decent speech in other countries and sound like he knows what he's talking about? This man is a walking catastrophe, a accident waiting to happen. Go back to Arizona, and hang out with your rich wife. Go hunting…no scratch that because we saw what happened with your buddy Cheney. (hmmm) But please, for all of our sake, don't try and be the president for crying out loud!

Joan, Ontario,   June 11th, 2008 10:38 am ET

If John McCain is elected President, he will have to give many, many important speeches to huge audiences around the world with and without teleprompters. Speaking to the UN would not be like a town hall experience. Being a capable speaker is a necessity for any world leader. His challenge to Barack Obama to meet in ten town hall meetings is almost a sign of desperation because that's the only place he seems comfortable. He obviously needs more practice in larger settings. Perhaps they should do four or five town hall meetings and four or five normal live TV debates. Then see how they compare.

Kristen- Philadelphia, PA   June 11th, 2008 10:38 am ET

I am looking forward to the debates between Obama and McCain. They should be interesting with their views completely different on mostly every issue and McCains inability to speak in public. Anybody know when the first on is?

Ashley   June 11th, 2008 10:38 am ET

I campaign for Senator McCain in 2000 against President Bush, because he talked about being truthful. The more I see the Presidency becoming close within his reach, his reasoning and truthfulness has gone out the window. It's very unfortunate.

I am judging the candidate based on how they run their race, both Clinton and McCain have been consistent with selling and saying anything that gets them votes. At least, Senator Obama stands up to the issues and even gave a moving speech about race in America.

Remember, President Clinton didn't have any foreign background and look how well we were respected by the foreign community. Whereas President Bush didn't have any and his Texas mentality has put our country at risk.

McCain is not different then President Bush. You can't say you're not for the same policies when everything you do points that direction. Basically, don't ask Bush help you fundraise $5.3M for a dinner to help your campaign. Action speaks louder than words.

Senator McCain, you will NOT have my support this election, it's too important for my country.

You say this election is not a beauty contest. What is it then? If Abraham Lincoln were running today he wouldn't make it past the primaries. No one would vote for an ugly man with a beard.Nixon lost to Kennedy because he had 5 O clock shadow and looked like he was scowling
McCain will not win because he comes across as an tottering old man with an lopsided lower face, and a stiff movement in his shoulders. Hillary lost votes because she never wore a dress and always bobbed her head up and down like a bobble head doll. In this circus, religeon, race, sex, and personal charisma were important enough to sway voters. The real facts that could effect their lives were forgotten, and as usual they will vote for the one they like to look at.

All presidential candidates should be required to have a brain MRI and the results made public. Would it surprise anyone if Senator McCain has a certain degree of age-related dementia? Perhaps that would account for his consistent 'misspeaks'. Why else is it so hard for him to adapt to something 'new' rather than stick to well-established habits. He may well have great difficulty coming up with creative solutions to problems and thus, he sticks to the same old stuff.

I consider myself to be a democrat. I have always like McCain up until the last few years. Yes he 'used' to be a Maverick in the Republican party, leaning more towards the left than the right at times. I thought he was well 'balanced' in that respect.

Unfortunately it is now obvious that this man will do whatever it takes to become president. He will do and say whatever his advisers say in order to get elected. He has changed his tune so much that the McCain of a few years ago was a completely different man than he is today.

Too bad, because I would have voted for the old McCain. Not this new puppet.

I'm sorry that you can't understand what Barack is saying when he speaks at the 35,000 ft level…I understand him just fine as does MILLIONS of other people..he doesn't have to use layman's terms in order to connect with people..

McCain is getting press because that was a HORRIBLE speech..he looked frozen(or botoxed), that location was not lively at all, no enthusiasm from him OR the crowd, and that PAINFUL green backdrop should have been the subject of bad press…if no one ever told him there was a problem he wouldn't have known..so instead of complaining about him getting bad press, be glad that he was able to correct his obvious mistakes and move on…

Raymond Duke   June 11th, 2008 10:33 am ET

I know that john McCain is not a good speaker that is obvious. So he should play to his strength in town hall meeting where questions can be taken and answers delivered back honestly and with real thoughts. Take away Obama's speech writers and televised promoters as seen in his attempt to make a speech without oneand you get the real Obama a person who cannot think or answer questions on his own. No thought pattern and folds like a lawn chair when placed under pressure.

A-Man   June 11th, 2008 10:32 am ET

As a Canadian I have always liked McCain and favored the republicans. This will be the first US election where clearly Obama is the best for the country. Makes me laugh when the Hillary pack say they will vote for McCain so Hillary can have her change again in 2012. It does not take a lot of intelligence to know that the only way Obama loses this election is due to the damage Hillary has done in turning her followers off Obama. If they lose it is do to her and she will have NO future in democratic politics. Why her followers cannot see that is really funny. It shows they suit the profile of the lower educated supporter she preached to.

Consider the so many registered in Democratic Party,

America's needs a leader not a speaker.

No one can deny that Obama’s got style. But scratch the surface to see if there’s substance. There isn’t.

Please look a little deeper and see what’s beneath the flowery rhetoric and empty slogans. What exactly is the "change" he is bringing? So far it seems just biased press and old politics.

McCain is a proven leader. He is moderate. And he knows what he is talking about, unlike Obama, who mouths the ideas that are the product of the years of true Democratic Party leaders, like Hillary Clinton. Ask youself why Obama can’t speak below 35,000 feet. Why can’t he speak more substantively?

Why is Obama the Dem nominee if he has to copy Senator Clinton's ideas?

Why is Barack accepting a town hall event from McCain? Barack didn't learn a lesson from Hillary during the primary. Hillary drag him into those debates because it was her comfort zone. He accepted and then ran away at the end, after she won the debates. Now, Barack is making the same mistake he made with Hillary, by accepting McCain's offer. Does Barack ever learn a lesson?

If I were Barack, I would have made a counter offer. Ask McCain to join him in an arena with thirty thousand people instead. Barack still think he is in the primary election were he can make numerous mistake and get away with it. We are paying attention to what kind of decision you make, Barack. This was a bad idea.

I'm waiting for the exact same story for Sen. Obama – the media doesn't even show him speaking, barely. Only they say "Obama said this today" or "let's play a clip of this". And they alter his messages and policies all the time throughout, simplifying his message until it sounds unappealing – like he wants to raise taxes – not what he said.
I'm waiting for that story and for the media to treat all the candidates fairly.

Mabus   June 11th, 2008 10:28 am ET

It turns out that Barack Obama's Chicago zip code is 60606 – the sign of the beast. This revelation raises an interesting question:
If Obama is exposed as the Antichrist, do you think it could hurt his presidential chances?

JJ   June 11th, 2008 10:28 am ET

Rational Thoughts–You nailed it. The MSM is shamelessly in the tank for Obama, and truthfully, Dems could have gotten Manson paroled and put him up as a candidate and the left and the media would still be drooling. I'm not stoked about having to go vote for McCain (Hang it up with the gas tax holiday gimmick, will ya'?), but Obama's soaring rhetoric is no substitute for proven experience and the guts to stand for something (How many times has Obama said, "present" when it came time to vote?). God help all of us, because you truly do get what you vote for…last time out, Dems won, and the only substantive thing they've done in 2 years is serve subpoenas to their ideological enemies. Don't forget, everyone rags on W's approval rating…the Dem controlled congress' rating is almost 10 points lower. You want change you can believe in? Toss the Dems out! They are the failure!

There were a lot of comments on the Ted Strickland VP ticker which tried to make it seem as if he was turning down even the thought because of Obama. Well, here is what he said Nevember 9, 2007 to the Columbus Dispatch:

“If I am fortunate enough to be the nominee, I will then turn my focus on picking a running mate,” Clinton said. “But first thing’s first, and what is so important to me about the governor’s endorsement is that I think his credibility and his record of service and his very significant victory in Ohio in the last election sends a very positive message about my campaign.”

Strickland repeatedly has said he is not interested, even invoking the famous quote from Civil War general William Tecumseh Sherman: “If nominated, I will not accept; if drafted, I will not run; if elected, I will not serve.”

The governor repeated that sentiment yesterday, saying he wanted to “put the vice-presidential issue to rest.”

“I have said repeatedly that I am not presumptuous enough to think that I would even be considered for the vice presidency but if I was, I have no interest at all in the vice-presidency,” Strickland said. “I love being the governor of Ohio and will do whatever I can in that capacity to help Sen. Clinton win. But you just can stop any thought of the vice presidency, that’s not something that I’m interested in.”

I think MCcain is over his head on the Prez run. He is not a good speaker. MCcain, The poeple will speak and it will be back to the senate "my friend".

Kenneth M   June 11th, 2008 10:23 am ET

SIDE BY SIDE ME THINKS OBAMA IS GOING TO MAKE THE OLD GOAT LOOK PATHETIC. HE LOOKS BETTER, TAKES FASTER, AND IS A LOT SHARPER. THIS WILL BE A CONTEST DECIDED ON IF THE COUNTRY WANTS TO MOVE FORWARD OR CLING TO THE PAST. NO OTHER CHOICE HAS BEEN AS BLACK AND WHITE.

ABC   June 11th, 2008 10:23 am ET

The next time McCain say's "My friends" during a speech, or gives that fake smirk of a smile, I am going to go crazy. Republicans need a better candidate.

the press write,or comments what they see, no one has to be a journalist to see that he is a bumbling old man. he needs to retire from politics, fade into the sunset with his beer heirs and live happliy ever after he earn that much.

Elizabeth   June 11th, 2008 10:22 am ET

This guy IF president would have to give how many speeches at international summits, meetings, UN, etc, at the White House?

What is he going to do? Ask international leaders etc to come to a local town hall where he is more comfortable??

Speaking well is a very important part of the job when you represent AN ENTIRE COUNTRY!!!!!

Mike, Syracuse, NY   June 11th, 2008 10:21 am ET

Enlightened Voter, Rarely have I seen someone as entirely clueless as you. Mccain turned down early release by the North Vietnamese because he knew it would be used as a propaganda tool to harm his country and fellow prisoners. Name one thing, anything at all, the Obama has done to show his love of country. In fact, his former church's black liberation theology only preaches hate for America. WAKE UP!!!

tidho   June 11th, 2008 10:21 am ET

quote from above…"I trust his (McCain's) judgement over Obama's lack of knowledge esp. with world affairs. I will vote for him only if Hillary is on his ticket."

…so you're willing to vote for someone you view as unfit for office because you like the VP?….brilliant!, lol.

Btw, that lack of knowledge sure did show through when it counted most – going into Iraq.

Sanyare Toronto, Canada   June 11th, 2008 10:20 am ET

loooooool @ How much do you want to bet that the clock on his DVD player reads 12:00?

How do you work this bloody thing!!!!

CB   June 11th, 2008 10:19 am ET

I don't care how he talks.

His policies are standard Republican/Conservative ideas – and they have been tried for the last 8 years already and I think we can all see how that's worked for us!

Time to give something else a try. Life was good under Democratic rule. At least the Constitution was followed!

Give Me Liberty, Or Give Me Death   June 11th, 2008 10:19 am ET

The contrast between the two contenders both policy-wise and speaking wise could not be more apparent.

Obama is great with a teleprompter, the master of the planned speech. Once he's off script though, he bumbles and stumbles his way through.

McCain is terrible with a planned speech. When he is in the town hall format, no script necessary, he really shines. The debates between these two guys should be really fun to watch!

Sharon Minnesota   June 11th, 2008 10:19 am ET

Thank god, seeing this old hag give a speech is worst then being trapped in a room with someone trying to sell you a timeshare.

Well OBAMA supporters you Bashed Hillary to death and I see you are at it again on McCAIN. You people are so dumb that you don't even know that you are the exact reason along with OBAMA's CORRUPTION that we Hillary supporters will not back him in November. I rather have another four years of Bush that this EVIL MAN. McCAIN 08

Jim   June 11th, 2008 10:18 am ET

Do we really need another leader who is unable to communicate? Bush is clearly dyslexic. McCain apparently can't read and is becoming senile. Please, America… let's do something different for a change. Let's elect someone different. Someone who has a few new ideas. Let's try things different so we can turn things around in this country.

ABC   June 11th, 2008 10:17 am ET

This guy is so awful that I can only listen to him for about 2 minutes. He looks creepy with his robotic stance, and especially the "Terminator" cheek motion when his mouth moves. He's like a puppet speaking from the teleprompters.

John   June 11th, 2008 10:17 am ET

I don't think age bias should be tolerated. It's just as bad as any other form of discrimination, and as a minority I find it hard to trust people who would ridicule a person for being over a certain age.

What's next then?

Obama claims to be a religious man and is meeting with religious leaders – if this is true are all of them Church of Christ? After setting and listening to Rev. Wright for 20 years I don't think he's very religious. Afterall doesn't his church NOT recognize any other religions. All my life I was told by those Church members I was headed for HADES because I didn't belong to "THE CHURCH". I DOUBT VERY SERIOUSLY THIS MAN ALONG WITH HIS LEADERSHIP CAPABILITES HAS NO RELIGION UNLESS IT IS EVIL WORK!!!

Enlightened Voter -   June 11th, 2008 10:13 am ET

The reason he doesn't do well in speeches is because it's not from the heart and you can plainly see he lies continuously and then gets stumped. Look, he is a republican with a bad agenda, he has to lie. He could care less about america or it's people, he just wants to continue the repub agenda.

Dem in CA   June 11th, 2008 10:11 am ET

Let's face it–McCain was probably the best of a pretty sorry lot of Republican nominees. He's got a party that is left in shambles by Rove and Bush, which has fractured into bits that are now busy attacking each other. He's too old for the job too, which is not fair perhaps, but he got this opportunity too late. It happens.

And he has a third party candidate, Bob Barr, who will cut into his base.

Christianists haven't warmed to McCain despite his recent pandering, his stand on issues is all over the map, and he's up against a political phenomenon. I could almost feel sorry for McCain, but pity is not a good reason to support him. Besides, it would be crazy for Americans not to give Obama a shot. He has the potential to really shine–love his positions on the issues, his energy, and oratorical skill.

It's no contest.

Ron L   June 11th, 2008 10:10 am ET

In the past the press has been (how should I say..) neutral when it came to covering Sen. McCain because in the course of the year he may have been involved in 6 or 7 major issues in the Senate….

WELCOME TO THE BIG LEAGUES!!!

He is now running for President and one of the MAJOR challenges is 24 / 7 news coverage and very, very, tough commentary from the media pundits!! Before it is over I am sure that we will find Senator McCain is a good public servant but HE IS NOT President material.

Just like G.W. Bush was not, but America had its heads buried in the sand afraid of potential terrorist attacks and voted him in…

LETS NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE AGAIN.

Person with an opinion.   June 11th, 2008 10:10 am ET

The sad irony is that the Democratic party was so afraid of coronating HRC as queen, and the media was so taken by who they proclaimed to be the new JFK, MLK, and RFK all rolled into one…. that they went overboard in the other direction.

They knocked HRC unfairly from the competition so that they could then coronate the young black man as KING.

Yes, this will harm and damage the party and the future of this country. Many of us have lost faith in our press and our party. We saw the principles and ideals of this country trashed so that the chosen nominee (by the DNC and the press) could be installed.

Texas Trail Dog   June 11th, 2008 10:09 am ET

WELL WHY DON'T YOU POST IT CNN?

Esther   June 11th, 2008 10:08 am ET

Why should someone running for the highest job in the world – the President of the USA – not be able to give a speech!!! Talk about qualification and inexperience!! He's not qualified – Americans need and deserve a better representative – a supreme voice!!!

Go Barack!!! Obama is widely respected and is a supreme voice all over the world even before he's president!

And, WHY isnt the press digging deeper into the fact that McSame cannot give a single speech, they seem to have accepted the fact that he can only conduct small town-hall meetings?! For someone running for the highest job in the world! THE PRESIDENT OF THE USA! The press has settled for that. But the american people deserve to be heard! We deserve better! If it was Obama they would be asking all the questions into why he cant give a single speech!

Yes WE Can
GO Obama!!!

Fannie Butler   June 11th, 2008 10:08 am ET

John McCain has stepped forward to make suggestions as to what Obama can do such as inviting him to share town hall meetings, go to Iraq with him, etc. Each time McCain tries to make Obama looks bad it backfires. It's nothing wrong with town hall meetings and if this makes him more comfortable in small settings, McCain should strive to be more flexible, but maybe because of his age, he's too set in his ways. Of course, age is definitely just a number, and McCain needs to improve on his presentations and that's a fact.

Brian Knoxville, TN   June 11th, 2008 10:06 am ET

No one can deny that Obama's got style. But scratch the surface to see if there's substance. There isn't.

Please look a little deeper and see what's beneath the flowery rhetoric and empty slogans.

McCain is a proven leader. He is moderate. And he knows what he is talking about, unlike Obama, who mouths the ideas that are the product of the years of true Democratic Party leaders, like Hillary Clinton.

Ask youself why Obama can't speak below 35,000 feet. Why can't he speak more substantively?

Mike from Westchester   June 11th, 2008 10:05 am ET

58 old white ladies against hypocrisy   June 11th, 2008 10:04 am ET

We are all lifelong activist democrats.

WE will NOW have to think about voting for Obama IF he is the nominee of the democratc party.

He IS the nominee, tou say?

Well we will stll have to think about it….after the conduct of the Obama camp, Michelle Obama, the DNC, the biased press and all the haters for Obama.

Don't bother to call us spiteful, ignorant, stupid, moronic, vindictive, inbred redneck racist morons. WE are none of those things. Please make sure that you label Michelle Obama first.

We marched and worked to secure the very rights that we all now enjoy. A conservative court and overturning Roe vs Wade- that may just be the thing required to prevent such UNdemocratic tactics in securing a nomination from becoming the way we do things in this party. Young people, that will teach you the consequences of waging a campaign of hate and misinformation and propaganda.

And we are not posers- The 58 Old ladies for Obama are the posers.

Eric   June 11th, 2008 10:03 am ET

Its ok, Im sure he will put people to sleep there as well. If he's able to stay awake himself.

anon3   June 11th, 2008 10:02 am ET

I have never seen such BIA REPORTING in all my years. The various stories I viewed today on McCain ( and or Hillary ) were all so slanted it was pathetic! Take this green screen story which was followed by numerous visuals on tv. What about Obama saying we have 57 states — where is the VISUAL on that?

And as for the negative on Hillary and her 3am call, no where did it say how actually Hillary should be the candidate as she was the people's choice by all the polls, and if they had counted FL and MICH or had revotes, not withstanding more bias coverage by the main stream media, we would have seen entirely different results by the public and the super delegages.

Still waiting for NEWs coverage on the Larry Sinclair/ Donald Young/ Obama connnection which fits closely with the stories that came out at the REZKO trial, not withstanding Oprah's program on DOWNLOW.

Matt   June 11th, 2008 10:02 am ET

Most of the press is in the tank for Obama anyway, so most press McCain gets will be bad regardless of what he does.

The Hillary supporters got a glimpse of what media bias is like in the primaries.

Bush has been suffering from this extreme bias for years.

Obama will continue to benefit from it.

It's sad that so many in the country don't see through this.

L   June 11th, 2008 10:01 am ET

John McCain is so much better at the town halls and it is true what he says (himself) that people get a real feel for who he is a person and what he will be like as a leader – and that is STRONG.

the thing people need to realise is that even if you dont agree with everything John McCain does, we will be voting for him no matter how he sounds on a telepromter speech….So dont go thinking that everybody in American is falling for Obama because of his fancy speeches, cause it aint so.

Not So Delusional   June 11th, 2008 10:00 am ET

OMG. That speech was so terrible, I couldn't turn it off in hopes of seeing just how increasingly horrible it would get. As a Republican, Senator McCain did nothing more than confirm to me why it was ok for me to vote Democrat this year.

Now in 2012 we'll see what's up. But in 2008. Sorry man. You don't have this vets vote.

Shelly in IL   June 11th, 2008 9:59 am ET

McCain needs to think of some real plans as well while he is attending these town hall meetings! Everything he has implemented is a continuation of Bush's policies. Can McCain come up with anything on his own? At least Obama has thought of something that may help us, may not be the best, but it's something.

Still for Hill   June 11th, 2008 9:58 am ET

Hillary Democrats: It's time to stand up against the extreme liberals who are running our party. People of Ohio, WV, KY, OK, TX, and every other state that Hillary won.

Voice your opinions to party leaders in your states. Email and write them and let them know that we are tired of getting stuck with the most unelectable, left wing-nut jobs for our nominee.

Isn't it interesting that newcomers to the party are being listened to over people who have been lifelong democrats. Its very interesting to me that people who normally don't show up for the vote in Nov are the ones who are being catered to.

Hillary 08 or McCain if necessary

John Boyes   June 11th, 2008 9:58 am ET

As a person, Im sure John McCain is a decent person, but please, being a POW and being in a Hanoi prison for 5 1/2 years doesnt qualify him for president !
Im not so sure Barack is that much more qualified at this point in his political career, but this election should be based on the catastrophy that George Bush has permeated on all of us.
Lets at least give the Democrats a chance to fix this failing country before its too late.
Warren Buffet said that we have to make some major changes soon, or we will be in this hole for another 20 years !
$13 Billion dollars a day to Iraq, is that insanity or am I in a nightmare?

JB   June 11th, 2008 9:57 am ET

Truthfully, regardless of the format, when he ends up standing next to Obama, he is going to look way less skilled in communicating.

However, it's not flowery approach, but the substance.

Louis   June 11th, 2008 9:57 am ET

Wow..we are in trouble.

We had a President who could not think or talk. Now we have one who cannot think, talk or move.

Is this the best the republicans could do?????

pat   June 11th, 2008 9:56 am ET

he needs to stay away from the camera period! he shows his age and talks as if he can not remember half the time what he is saying. obama is going to make him look like grandpa moses standing side by side with him. McCain is about to get what he asks for. can McCain even come up with anything about the economy? all i have ever heard him say is how obama is not ready…….as if old man John McCain is!!! god help us if our country is left in charge with some old man that should be in an old folks home taking it easy and trying to remember the old days!

Ernest Caldwell   June 11th, 2008 9:56 am ET

I agree he looks very uncomfortable behind the podium in most of his speeches. I've always thought that. What puzzles me is if he is the canidate with the most experience, than why is he having so much trouble with something so fundamental to being the President, communicating with the people. I mean with all his experience he should have this thing nailed down. Surely he cant let that Sen from Illinois with no exp upstage him. How can this be? Hopefully that experience will kick in soon. But than again wasn't Clinton the canidate of experience? I'm starting to see a familiar pattern with the experience canidates.

Alex NYC   June 11th, 2008 9:56 am ET

I don't know if he knows this… but presidents generally have to give lots of scripted speeches. State of the Union for example… typically written in advance and fed via teleprompter. Maybe he should join a Toastmasters club.

Beverly, NYC   June 11th, 2008 9:56 am ET

I saw McCain today on the Today show thus morning touting his economic policy, his delivery is wooden in any setting. The debates should be a snooze.

Independent for Obama   June 11th, 2008 9:55 am ET

He wouldn't seem that bad at speeches if his opponent wasn't so good. I just really, really wish he would stop calling everyone his friends! Every time he says it I cringe, my friends. ;)

bridgette   June 11th, 2008 9:55 am ET

What they are going too do is have planted people with planted questions so that he can give a plan answer. If the man can't read of a teleprompter how can he just answer questions without him being prepared already.

Rick in Florida   June 11th, 2008 9:55 am ET

McCain's problem is that while his speech content is usually OK he's terribly stiff using a teleprompter. But the alternative for him may be even more problematic: he seems more natural speaking off-hand, but his content can go all over the place, and he's prone to gaffes and flubs that make him seem confused or even ill-prepared….or just old.
