Analysis: Crossing the Clintons

Former aides to Sen. Hillary Clinton say those who switched their support to Sen. Barack Obama may be on the outs.
Former aides to Sen. Hillary Clinton say those who switched their support to Sen. Barack Obama may be on the outs.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - One after another, they jumped ship and left Sen. Hillary Clinton's campaign to back her Democratic rival, Sen. Barack Obama. And while the chapter on her campaign may be closed, there are still open wounds over those who've crossed the Clintons.

"So today, I am standing with Sen. Obama to say, 'yes we can!' " Clinton said on Saturday.

Yes, Clinton can support Obama in his race for the presidency. But as for the former Clinton supporters who switched sides, forgiving and forgetting might not come that easily.

The New York Times reported that some Clinton loyalists have been keeping tabs on those who have crossed the Clintons.

But CNN contributor and longtime Clinton backer James Carville told CNN's Wolf Blitzer Wednesday that article is "laughable."

"It's a very silly piece ... There really wasn't a list ... It's laughable. I talked to a lot of people in Clinton land today and they're not even sure what the point of the story was," he said.

One former Clinton adviser, however, said there's no doubt some have forever burned bridges with the power couple.

Bill Richardson is owed an apology for starters. Just because he worked for them doesn't mean he swore a political oath of allegiance.

Doesn't surprise me. Now can everyone quit talking about the Clintons, Hillary lost plain and simple and she did it to herself. They need to spend time paying off her campaign debt. And she said she would push mandatory health insurance. Why couldn't she keep her own staff covered? What about money she owns to small businesses and other creditors. I'm more interested in having the price of gas and food go down. I'm glad we paid off a mortgage we could afford 5 yrs. ago.

OK everyone, take a deep breath and VOTE FOR OBAMA

So who are the Clinton's, Adam and Eve? Everyone that is afraid of them wave your hand. They still need to pay their bills and I suggest Billary supporters help them.

I love to write these posts, just so CNN won't print them.
I am not on the paid staff. Ha,ha

NO Hillary and NO Bayh for VP

This is stupid, and indeed laughable. I'm sure every politician is very aware of who is for and against them. If you're saying the Clinton's have plans to carry out.....what? attacks? Get real, leave her alone already. Sad CNN is even shedding light on this ridiculous article.

Other than polarizing democrats against one-another, why is CNN fanning these flames with such speculative garbage?

"The New York Times reported..." that pretty much sums up the reliability of the report...

I STILL DONT UNDERSTAND WHY SHE DOESNT WANT TO CONCEDE? WHY THE SUSPENSION AND NOT A CONCESSION? SHE STILL THINKS COME CONVENTION TIME EVERYBODYS PLEDGE IS GOING TO CHANGE IN HER FAVOR? I DONT HAVE ANYTHING AGAINST THE CLINTONS BUT THIS SUSPENSION RATHER THAN CONCESSION BOTHERED ME.

Hillary supporters have found a new home in the republican party. No Obama for them. Now they see the light and know that the right was right all the time. One MAN one WOMAN. Vote for LIFE and not for the death of MILLIONS of babies. Our hope is that soon with their help we will put a stop to abortion 4ever.

New York Times, CNN, continuing to fan the flames of polarization long after everyone else has moved on. Clinton who? That's yesterday's news. And with presenting all speculation, no facts, it wasn't even really news.

Talk about Obama and McCain's voting records and stances on issues! Focus people!

Would people leave Hillary Clinton alone and let her do what she needs to do. This is silly, the more we try to unite this party the more other's try to divide it.

The thing that is nice about burning bridges is

that you can't go back and make the same mistake twice.

Good for the Clintons – they should keep track of who is on their side and who did not stick with them, I do not understand how someone can say something negative about someone and then two minutes later figure that us the PEOPLE have forgotten it all, come on give us a break, as far as Bill Clinton and Hillary go – I think they have been picked on so much by the media, Bill Clinton was a good president and the american people were so much better off when he and Al Gore ran things, does everyone forget the good times and just go and follow the leader instead of thinking. I wish that Al Gore or Hillary would leave the Democratic Party and run againes OBAMA

    al:
Apparently you completely missed her concession speech. And you're too obsessed with the technicalities of 'ending' versus 'suspending' a campaign. Technically Edwards himself has also just suspended his campaign, and yet his delegates are now going to Obama.
Hillary has explicitely said that her run for the presidency is over and she's endorsing Obama. In her speech she repeatedly said people should now vote for Barack Obama. Is that not enough of a concession to you??? What more do you want??? Is Hillary-hating all that matters to you???

All Cllinto energies need to be turned to electing Obama so that Hillary can be appointed HHS. This is what will advance her career.

Right now, she's not in position to extract REVENGE from anyone nor is she likely to try given the scrutiny she & Bill are under.

Well on my dislike list Richardson, Dodd, Kerry, Kennedy, Matthews, McCaskell, Berstein, Brazille, my Governor, and Representatives (who did not go with the vote of their state), and on and on. I wrote to all of them. There is not a list. but you just always need to know who your enemies are. I am sure Obama has a list of the ones who did not help crown him way before the election was over. Hillary is trying to pull the party together, but I can't forgive or forget. Its not her fault.

THIS IS LAUGHABLE....REALLY. I AM SWITCHING MY PARTY AND THOSE OF US WHO ARE ARE TOLD, WE HAVE TO BE TRUE TO OUR PARTY IF WE ARE REALLY DEMOCRATS. BUT YET RICHARDSON CAN CHANGE HIS LOYALTIES AND THAT IS OK? WHEN WE REGISTERED TO VOTE WE DID NOT DO AN OATH OF ALLEGIANCE EITHER BUT YET WE ARE TOLD WE ARE TRADERS.

All this is really getting to be " TOO SILLY " !

I am sure that Hillary is hurt....but remember she is an American and she wants what is best for our country.

I do not believe that she would honestly be keeping tabs on who is crossing over to help Obama.

Seems like someone is still trying to stir up trouble and divide us Democrats till November.

Well, it ain't gonna work ! We are smarter than that ! We will unite and Obama will be our next President.

I'm surprised that the Clintons are going after the cross-overs (if they really are..I'm suspicious about this statement the NYT). This is politics. People form and break alliances all the time. Politicians always try to position themselves in some way with the winning team of the moment. Clinton herself used to be a Goldwater Girl (Republican) until Bill talked her into switching sides. The Clintons are very savvy politicians and they well understand how fortunes change.

What I would expect the Clintons to actually do is remember who switched sides, and if those people try to come back, use that lack of loyalty as leverage to cut deals. This is not unusual. It's politics.

She lost. OK. She brought down her own self and campaign. She fought him as though he was a republican. If I can't win, neither can you. I believe what goes around comes around. Too many bitter taste in their mouths. Forgive her but not forget how devious she is. No VP for hill.

    OBAMA 08!!
