McCain's latest Iraq comments draw fire

The Obama campaign is attack McCain over his recent Iraq remarks.
The Obama campaign is attack McCain over his recent Iraq remarks.

(CNN) - Barack Obama's campaign seized on an interview Wednesday by presidential rival John McCain where he said the date when U.S. troops can begin to withdraw from Iraq is "not too important."

The Arizona senator made the comments on NBC's Today Show where he was asked if he had an estimate of when a withdrawal process may be possible.

"No, but that's not too important," McCain replied. "What’s important is the casualties in Iraq, Americans are in South Korea, Americans are in Japan, American troops are in Germany. That’s all fine. American casualties and the ability to withdraw; we will be able to withdraw."

In a conference call with reporters Wednesday, Obama surrogate and former presidential candidate John Kerry said McCain consistently confuses facts about the war and is "unbelievably out of touch."

"It is unbelievably out of touch and inconsistent with the needs of Americans and particularly the families of troops who are over there," the Massachusetts senator said. "To them it’s the most important thing in the world when they come home. It’s a policy for staying in Iraq."

Later when asked if calling McCain "confused" could be taken as a shot at the 71-year-old senator's age, Kerry said that suggestion was "unfair and ridiculous."

Meanwhile, McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds said the Obama campaign is launching "a false attack."

“The Obama campaign is embarking on a false attack on John McCain to hide their own candidate’s willingness to disregard facts on the ground in pursuit of withdrawal no matter what the costs," he said.

"John McCain was asked if he had a ‘better estimate’ for a timeline for withdrawal," he also said. " As John McCain has always said, that is not as important as conditions on the ground and the recommendations of commanders in the field."

UPDATE: In a conference call Wednesday afternoon, McCain supporter Joe Lieberman said he's dissapointed with the Obama campaign attacks.

“This is exactly the kind of partisan political game the American people are sick and tired of," he said.

IF THIS IS NOT THE MOST RIDICULUS STATEMENT THEN I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS
AND TO THINK THIS IS WHAT THE HILLARY SUPPORTERS WANT TO VOTE FOR ....FOUR MORE YEARS OF LIES AND DECEPTION AND DOUBLING DOWN IN IRAQ; SPENDING 12 BILLION A MONTH AND ITS NOT IMPORTANT WHEN OUR AMERICAN TROOPS COME HOME

GIVE THIS OLD WHITE FOOL SOME BRAIN FOOD SO HE CAN THINK STRAIGHT....FIRST HE SAID HE DIDN'T UNDERSTAND HOW THE ECONOMY WORK, THEN HE CONFUSED THE SUNNIS VS THE SHEIS, THEN HE SAID ITS OK TO STAY 100 YRS IN IRAQ, NOW HE SAYS IT'S NOT IMPORTANT HOW LONG WE STAY IN IRAQ

All the more reason to keep fighting...to work together to:

    1. Protect a woman's right to choose.

    2. Fight for gay rights.

    3. Realize that Iraq and Saddam Hussein had NOTHING to do with September 11 and END the U.S. occupation of Iraq.

    4. Realize that Republicans and Democrats are the same in terms of war... that, given a REAL and CREDIBLE threat from Iran, any president, REPUBLICAN OR DEMOCRAT, will take us to war again.

What is there to win? Nothing, it's not our country. Can't win something that wasn't ours to begin with.

But I know what is lost – a lot of lives; husbands, wives, sons, daughters, mothers and fathers are gone, and Bush says he has no regrets starting a war.

Stand face-to-face with the families who have lost loved ones and say Not too important!!! Ice Cold Hearted-Brainless McCain – these are people, not toy soliders. McCain wouldn't be standing for too long.

    1) help reverse Roe v. Wade and make abortion illegal – let's stop the murder of unborn babies! You mean those babies that you don't
want to pay health care for? You love them until they are born
    2) stop gays from getting married – let's get a constitutional amendment to stop gay marriage and let them know they are not normal! Normal according to whom? The Repubs that like little boys? This country has a few problems more pressing than two
people of the same sex who love each other.

    3) keep fighting the good fight in Iraq for as long as it takes – remember 9/11 and what we are fighting for! and Iraq had what to do with 9/11? Please remind us

    4) get ready to invade Iran – Right- are you enlisting? Our military is stretched to the breaking point now. This country is mortgaged to the hilt with the Chinese now. The Repugs are not even willing to pay the taxes to support the war we are in -they would rather saddle our children and grandchildren with debt

The definition of insane is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. That is John McCain

So now all the CNN bias against Hillary will be focused on McCain. CNN knows that if they only tell part of the story, it will be misconstrued and make McCain look foolish. When Obama does something particularly dumb, CNN gets busy white-washing it and making excuses, and then never mentions it again. CNN, before all of this, I was pretty well hooked on your station and wouldn't miss Chris Matthews or Olbermann for anything, but now I never go to you for news. I'm sort of old fashioned that way: I like my news without any bias from the news anchors and hosts. I like making up my own mind about the events of our nation and the world.

So yesterday he is going to Super Size my "nice meal" and today he doesn't think we care (especially mothers, and fathers and wives and husbands and children...) when they troops are going to be coming home.... Jesus dude! Someone, and preferably a friend, maybe Liberman, needs to tell him he is heading down the wrong path if he wants to win in November!

Look at all the Obama Kool-aid drinkers on here bashing McCain. Seriously, you all need to grow up and get a life. Newsflash, just because McCain has a different view of things than the Obamaphiles does not mean he is the devil. I guess we should all start goosestepping to get in line with the other Obamaphiles. In Germany, the Hitler youth got entranced by someone promising change and enlightenment. Look where that got them.

McCain by a landslide. The light has come on for most Hillary supporters and they have no fear in voting the one who is right and that is John McCain. 1 Man 1Woman 4ever.
We are winning the war in Iraq and will do the same in Iran. Iran must go down and we will show the rest of the world that America is not to be messed with.
With a chance to replace 2 or more Supreme Court Justices we will have our best chance to overturn Roe V Wade.

Maybe it's time for you peaceniks to consider what the American casualties would have been if we had waited until Saddam Hussein DID get WMD's. I'd rather make the mistake we did of moving too soon, than the worse mistake of waiting too late. One Iraqi nuke would have caused 10 times the casualties of the entire war to date.

PlesaePost: YES I AM BITTER VERY BITTER!

Let’s talk about the economy and Bush/McCain and the GOP. The war in Iraq has done so much damage to our economy here in the US we have only begun to see the effects. If you think back to the before the McCain/Bush invasion of Iraq oil was trading around 25.00 a barrel. Now we are looking 150.00 a barrel before the end of summer.

Some of you say this has nothing to do with the war in Iraq; let’s play the blame game. Well let’s follow the money shall we? With any crime that has been committed you have to find motive. Who has benefited most from this war in Iraq?

A.Bush and Channey are two former oil executives and have friends in American Big Oil Companies; have they benefited?

B.Big equipment and supply companies (i.e.) Halliburton; have they benefited?

C.How about Iran, they more money now then they ever had; have they benefited?

D.Saudi Arabia Bush begs them to produce more oil; have they benefited?

E.Has Osama Bin Laden and Al Quida; have they received more money from the Saudi Arabians that secretly support them; have they benefited? Has he even been killed or captured? We found Hitler in a bunker are Bush/McCain and the GOP chicken s**t to go get this turd?

F.The military industrial complex; have they benefited?

I love America to much to VOTE FOR MCAIN AND THE GOP!

    Obama 08/12
