Oklahoma Dem won't endorse Obama

Boren said Tuesday he won't be endorsing Obama.
Boren said Tuesday he won't be endorsing Obama.

(CNN) - On the same day Democratic leaders stressed party unity after the drawn out primary fight, one congressional Democrat said Tuesday he will not endorse Barack Obama's bid for the White House.

Rep. Dan Boren, Oklahoma's lone Democrat in Congress, told the Associated Press Obama is "the most liberal senator," and said he has to listen to the wishes of his own constituents.

"We're much more conservative," Boren said of his rural district which stretches across the eastern part of the state and borders Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, and Texas.

"I've got to reflect my district. No one means more to me than the people who elected me. I have to listen to them," Boren added. His congressional office confirmed the accuracy of the quotes to CNN.

Boren also said Obama's record "does not reflect working in a bipartisan fashion." But the Oklahoma Democrat said he would vote for Obama at the party's convention in August because of the serious issues the country faces.

"I think this is an important time for our country," he said. "We're facing a terrible economic downturn. We have high gasoline prices. We have problems in our foreign policy. That's why I think it's important."

Watch: McCain and Obama go on the attack

Boren's comments come a day after Florida Democratic Rep. Tim Mahoney also said he has no plans to make a formal endorsement. The freshman Democrat, who replaced Republican Rep. Mark Foley following House page scandal, told the Palm Beach Post he plans on remaining an uncommitted superdelegate and may not even attend the convention.

And...If he won't endorse him, don't bet on him voting for Obama in the general election no matter what the Oklahoma Rep. says.

    Oh well!!

I'm an Obama supporter but I know this guy is between a rock and a hard place. He basically spelled that out. He wants to endorse Obama but apparently there are some hardcore conservative (or maybe prejudice) dems in his district. All America can hope for is that we all soon wake up and UNITE!! Its for the better of us all.
    Lets Go Dems!!!!!

Who cares, Rep? It's amazing how that "Most Liberal Senator" seems to apply to every one the party nominates. Do they have a pageant or something? Obviously this fellow has done little to nothing to make a name for himself, so he jumps in to someone else's spotlight. You know the best way not to endorse someone, Boren? Don't say anything.

So are Obama fans going to continue to blame the Clinton's for Obama not being able to close the deal? Are they going to blame the Clinton's because people have decided they won't vote for Obama because they don't like him or his policies? Obama is the man, he's got this. Lets see his skills at uniting. Better get started because you have to unite the Democrat party first.

    To Polly;

First of all, I do not believe that you are an AA, but some trying to make us think this the case. If you are truly an AA my heart goes out for you for still being asleep. Did you NOT read what Boren said? He said that he will NOT endorse Obama, yet he would vote for him, which means that he IS supporting him.

You cannot be that obtuse, can you?

This guy Boren is a rookie and seems to take his coaching from Lieberman. You know, tell everyone your a Dem but be Rep in actions, deeds and words. After all, only a neocon say opposite things at the same time. I guess Bush-Logic can creep into anybody's thought processes...

Ignorance is bliss I tell you
For all of those "so call" Hillary supporters (which are really republicans posing as democrats) if the Democratic Party continues to be divided, there will never be another democrat in the house-not even HRC
    Wise up!
Obama will win the office this year- watch and see

I am from Okla and it't not that conservative. And his dad, David Boren endorsed Obama along with the okla gov. Sometime back. Go to this congressman's website and let him know unity is more important than promoting his own self interests, this guy is simply an attention seeker. Hillary and Barack are identical on the issues so what is his problem????

It's a shame. As I read these post it reminds me of how the republicans backed Bush and anyone who said one thing against him was called a traitor or anti-american. The democratic party has become the very thing they disliked the most about the republicans. If you don't agree with them and back the party leader, (no matter what), then you are crazy are stupid or a racist. Shame on you!!

Disgruntled Hillary supporters should be VERY careful about what they do this election. Hillary's numbers are very negative at this point across the board. The feeling is that she has not handled herself at all well, and people have noticed. Even her endorsement of Obama was grudging after being prodded to do so by DNC leadership. No one with any brains are fooled. All you had to do was watch her face as she struggled to say the words without grimacing. Why do you think McCain is reaching out? He sees weakness in her supporters and is pandering to them. Do you think he really cares for anything except the vote? Once you vote for him, he will continue the Republican agenda. He couldn't care less about "Clinton Republicans" except for their vote.

Should Hillary's supporters torpedo Obama out of spite for her having lost the nomination, her chances of getting anywhere in 2012 will go down with the Obama loss. Right or wrong, she will be blamed for the strife the American people will face at the hands of 4 years of Republican continued "leadership". People will remember that she and her supporters, through petulant temper tantrums and spitefulness, lost the election for the Democrats. When her turn comes again, there won't be enough votes to even come close to getting a woman who will now be in her mid-60's the nomination, much less into the White House. The nomination process for Hillary will be short, brutal, and unsuccesful. And John McCain will laugh.

A Vote for Barrack Obama is a vote for Hillary Clinton because they support the same cause.
A vote for John McCain is a vote for a George Bush third terms more wars, bad economy and more country will not want to deal with our country. If you were really a true Hillary supporter that want a better America for this generation and the future generation you must vote Democratic this November. Please do yourself a good favor and vote for the Democratic nominee this coming November.
No hard feeling because Hillary has none against Barrack. We must put the Republican out of the white house.
As you can see, we are in a big recession and that will get worse with a John McCain.
I want to tell John McCain that gas tax holiday is not a solution for our energy problem and is not going to be a solution. This gas tax holiday shows that John McCain do not understand the economy. Keating 5 john McCain took money from the Keating five for political favor.

My understanding is that the differences in terms of policies between Hillary and Barack (outside of Iraq) are negligible. If Barack is overly liberal then it stands to reason that Hillary is cut from the same cloth. I can only surmise that this Don fool is taking a stance now because Obama is black. But instead of coming out with a truthful statement about his 'concerns' he has dreamed up what he thinks is a more palatable one. He would have better served the democratic party by keeping his stupid mouth shut altogether.

I commend you sir! Congratulations for being one of the few democratic leaders left who can think and stand on his own! Our party has shamed all of us who are committed to the fundamental values of equality and fair representation of our constituencies. Dean, Pelosi, and the Olber-bamas of the media may have successfully hijacked the nomination process, but we each still have 1 vote remaining.......see you in Nov.

I salute the senator for respecting the wishes of his constituents. Many others, like Kerry and Kennedy, Bill Richardson are the notable ones that did not.
When the time comes, some heads will roll and they will wonder why.
