Poll shows Obama picking up Clinton voters

A new poll shows signs Obama is winning over former Clinton supporters.
A new poll shows signs Obama is winning over former Clinton supporters.

(CNN) - A new poll out Wednesday suggests Barack Obama is picking up support among older female voters, a demographic that largely voted for Hillary Clinton in the prolonged Democratic primary race.

The findings could be a sign the Illinois senator is making significant strides among that bloc of voters, who had been fiercely loyal to Clinton and potentially ambivalent about supporting Obama in the general election.

WATCH Analysis of why Clinton supporters are moving toward Obama

According the new survey out by Gallup, Obama now holds a 6 point lead over McCain among women over 50 nationwide, 47 to 41 percent. That compares to a 3 point lead (46 to 43 percent) McCain held over Obama in a similar poll taken last week just days before Hillary Clinton conceded the nomination.

WATCH Clinton urge her supporters to back Obama

Extended to all female voters, Obama now holds a 13 point lead over McCain, up 8 points from this time last week.

Eight days after the Democratic nomination officially came to an end, Alan Silverleib, CNN Senior Political Researcher, said the poll provides "solid evidence that the wounds of the Democrats’ long primary season are already starting to heal."

“Obama will need most of Clinton’s women supporters to beat McCain in November," Silverleib said. "Fortunately for Obama, many of these supporters are apparently rallying to his side.”

This is not about Hillary or Obama, it is about your children's future and your future.

I do not care how mad you are about her not winning, if you do not vote Republican you will loose also and I am sure Hillary does not want that.

Stop being so mad, get over it, it is not like she was going to burn her bra again for you.

American women understand who has their best interests in mind and that isn't McCain.

From the war to the economy to women's rights, it's Obama – with the support of Hillary Clinton and other great women in the Democratic party, we will change the same old tired politics of fear and division and move ahead to a new America.

Here goes CNN again trying to entice Hillary supporters get behind Obama by cherry picking the latest poll numbers. I don't know how any Hillary supporter could get behind Obama and his belligerent and vitriolic band of supporters. Although some falling in line would be expected, don't plan on those numbers going much higher than they are now.

Poll Schmoll, this white college educated urban Hillary supporter will be voting for John McCain come November.

These numbers are not a surprise. Mr. Obama is likely to pick up a majority of Clinton supporters, but ultimately, it will not be enough. In order to win, Mr. Obama would have to garner nearly 100% of all registered Democrats as well as a large number of independents and a smattering of Republican cross-over voters and this is highly unlikely. Sadly, the DNC suffers from the delusion that they can bully voters into supporting their flawed and yet- to- be- vetted nominee and this is simply not so.

Sorry! There is only ONE WAY, I will vote for Obama and that is if
Senator Clinton is on the ticket! We'll see how much of a "uniter" he is! So far, I haven't seen it!!!!

The media has been "pushing" Obama since the beginning and they are doing it again. Maybe the "party" is behind him, but there are a lot of voters who are NOT! The media and the "party' can say and do what they want...they have made a mockery of this campaign.

    No Bama without Hillary!

If Hillary's supporters agreed with her on the ISSUES ... then any vote for McCain instead of Obama betrays their support of Hillary. Those would be defectors can say and do what ever they like ... but they simply cannot claim any moral high gound by voting for McCain who does not represent their interests.

I'm over sixty and when Hillary quit I logged on to McCain's web sight, joined and donated. I guess Hillary gave Obama her donators list because I got an email from his campaign asking for money. I emailed back to be removed from the list. I would never vote for a racist, sexist, socialist candidate.

All these so called Clinton Supporters on this blog are republican trolls pretending to be Hillary supporters. These are same republicans who voted for Hillary as part of the operation chaos. If there any true Hillary supporters saying "McCain if not Hillary", they are very few. Of course, I am not even touching WV and KY. They both are different story.

The fact that Clinton supporters say they will vote for McCain is hilarious since every issue Hilary has is different than McCain...hilarious

Tell the truth, Obama is picking up McCain supporters. Look back at the senile blunders McCain has made over the past weeks. Clinton supporters haven't all weighed in yet, but they will.

    This is a no brainer.

As McCane himself keeps reminding everyone, the approach to issues have never been more stark than they are between him and Obama.

One major issue that does not get enough attention and debate is the Supreme Court appointments.

As a male supporting the women's right to choose, I think electing McCane will doom Roe v. Wade.

Women, specially Democrat women know this, and they will support Obama because they will never forgive themselves if they don't, and McCane gets elected, and overturns Roe v. Wade through his SC appointment(s).

Some of us have always known what he is. He is inept and corrupt.
All the media spin is not going to make us change our minds.
In fact, the more they push us to him the further we run.
The media should get out of their offices sometime and do some investigating.

    Great News!

Any woman in her right mind knows McCain's policies are anti-female...............we need Hillary in the supreme court!

If you are a Hillary supporter, it is hypocritical of you to vote for McCain since he stands for everything Hillary does not.
