By the way – we live in Mayor Daley's city. Obama has never served political position in Chicago that I'm aware of.

I love this! Obama IS a strong candidate no matter how you see it. You may not like his past affiliations, and you may not even like his past but no person, American or otherwise is holier than thou. With all the scandal and corruption in DC how can we elect anyone if we hold them to supreme standards. Obama is a man that cares about our country and the people in it. That's what we need. I believe McCain cares too but his policies are being proven to be faulty. Let's take this election with a strong leader.

What will that do for the country? It is astounding to me that so many democrats are willing to vote for another 4 years of Bush failed policies, just because their candidate did not win the nomination. So the world must suffer. This is so sad. People of all ages are over in Iran risking their lives for a war that is not making us safe and John McCain wants to continue this effort at any and all costs. Barack is trying to bring unity and respect back to this country.

Vito. According to records from the CPD, there has only been 158 homicides in Chicago so far this year (it was not certain if the homicides were gun related murders). Which is probably incorrect as of this posting, but with that being said, if you are going to say something check your facts. Since 2004, Chicago's homicide number has not risen over 450! Meaning it would be a statistical anomaly to say something like what you are saying. Especially when you take into account the current trends in Chicago, More police patrols and the fact that since 1992 Chicago had only one year where the homicides in Chicago did not fall (2001 and in that year it only went up less then 6 percent!)

I have lost family members to gun violence, and although I say it is out of control, I don't see how a federal senator can be held completely or even partially responsible for the entirety of Chicagoland.

If you want to blame anyone, blame Daley. But if you were from Chicago, I am sure you would know that already.

I know that this won't be published but I found out on the internet that Cindy McCain in a descendent of Slave Owners. Her dad and granddad were Slave owners and I believe that she was raised by a couple of them and so was her husbands parents. As old as her husband is he probably had a few himself. That is why they are so against Senator Obama becoming President. The Bush family was also and probably still have them in the house out back in Texas.

Barack Obama was in Iowa the other day talking about making health care more affordable.
Here's what he didn't touch on.

In 2005, not-for-profit Iowa Health System reported making a profit of $69,937,000.

In 2006, profits shot up to $107,217,000.

In 2007, they increased again to $114,212,000.

And for the first 3 months of 2008, they report that they have already made a profit of $50,399,000.

According to the American Hospital Directory, between 12/31/04 and 12/31/06, at the largest hospital in this system, the hospitals actual costs increased by $37 million.

During that same period, they increased charges by $173.7 million

Barack toured a not-for-profit Catholic Hospital in Eugene Oregon recently, where he met with nurses and talked about the shortage of qualified nurses.
In addition to his promise to make health care more affordable, he promised to do something about that as well when President.

Well the 2006 990 Federal Tax Form for his personal hospital was posted yesterday, and it is quite revealing.

Michael Riordan was still the President and CEO in 2006.

Let's look at his total compensation.

For 2004, $1,696,606.

For 2005, $1,873,795.

For 2006, $2,402,382.

This is a system that has spent an incredible $15,042,085 on collection agencies over a 3 year period 2004-2006.

As for Barack's concern about nurses?

According to those 990's, in 2004, his wife Michelle received $121,910 in total compensation.

For year end 6/30/2005, she received $148,939 in total compensation.

That was the year she was promoted to vice-president 2 months after he was sworn is as a U.S. Senator.

And for year end 6/30/06, with a full year as vice president, she received $382,460 in total compensation.

Those same 990's show that one of the "highest paid employees other than officers, directors or trustees" for both 2005 and 2006 was an operating room nurse.

In 2005, that nurse received $227,817 in total compensation.

In 2006, that same nurse received $211,022 in total compensation.

Change we can believe in.
