(CNN) - Is famed actor Jack Nicholson's support a kiss of death for Democratic presidential hopefuls?

According to The Washington Post, the Hollywood star picks presidential candidates who have repeatedly gone down in defeat.

Consider his track record this year: The newspaper reports Nicholson made his first foray into the 2008 presidential race by writing a $500 check to Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich's campaign on January 10, two weeks before he ended his presidential bid

Nicholson later wrote checks to help both Delaware Sen. Joe Biden and Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd pay off their campaign debts – both candidates ended their bids in early January.

In late February, Nicholson donated the maximum $2,300 to Hillary Clinton's White House bid. She went on to win the Ohio and Texas primaries days later, though her presidential hopes ultimately came up short.

According to the Post, Nicholson had yet to give to Barack Obama through the end of April.

Nicholson has a history of showing reluctance to the Democratic party's eventual nominee. In 2000, he backed former New Jersey Sen. Bill Bradley over Al Gore, and in 2004 he didn't support a candidate at all until Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry had already wrapped up the nomination.

Every day that goes by Obama seems to be less and less electable.
People are very skeptical about his believes and about what his real solutions would be for our country. Many people do not really like McCain , however, it would be save to vote for him because people know his life story and people feel more comfortable with him. Many people are asking themselves who is this man Obama? I am a Hillary supporter and I believe she was the best candidate of the other two. I also believe that Michelle Obama is going to hurt Obama's credibility. When Michelle Obama speaks she seems to be angry and bitter. Why is she so angry and bitter?

Angela   June 12th, 2008 3:56 pm ET

USAF,
My husband served in the military for 24 years under several presidents–he gave his loyalty to all of them, whether he agreed with their policies or not and whether he voted for them or not–they were his commanders-in-chief. Fine if you do not like Obama, and want to support McCain–not my problem. If Hillary had won, she would have tried to implement the same programs Obama is proposing.

By the way, I did not open my mouth–I type with my fingers.

What is a Hollywood start?????????

H.Skank   June 12th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

I like Jack (as an actor). The fact that he donated to multiple candidates is not news and is not a jinx. Many people that believe in their party will send donations to various candidates.

I don't see the newsworthy aspect of this article though. Must be slow on the news front since the primaries are over.

All this negative talk about Oprah and what she do with her money.... Jealousy gets you no where!.... The words of McCain...I guess because she's black and Obama biracial.....that's not important...they both are stars...…but non of you are upset about how Jack spends his money on and for who....he has donated to several candidates...... two rich stars, donating (their OWN) money for their interest in politics………………

I guess it depends on the star, their color, their richness and if prejudice-jealousy people are commenting at the time……….

THANKS OPRAH FOR LETTING US GET TO KNOW OUR NEW PRESIDENT!

Sylvia Johnsen   June 12th, 2008 3:00 pm ET

My guess is Mr. Nicholson said he's declining to support Obama after the disgraceful race he ran, and the Obama campaign leaks this trash ot take away any sting they might feel when Nicholson make it public he'll vote for McCain.

USAF   June 12th, 2008 3:00 pm ET

To Angela,

My future will not be thrown away, I will be just fine thank you. Before you open your mouth the next time have a little substance. Barack Obama has no substanse Explain to all of us what his "Foriegn Policy Is" Immediate with draw from Iraq is not an option. not only would it put the troops who are awaiting redeployment at risk, it would turn into a breeding ground for terroists. But being a civilian with NO military experience you wouldnt understand the whole concept of troop withdraw.

Second, Are you a firm believer of Socialism.....Do you think its fair that we need to help support people who have made bad financial decisions. Do you want to pay for your neghbor who decided not to work and cant afford the big house he bought. NOT MY PROBLEM. Universal Health care for everybody even if they choose not to work. Again NOT MY PROBLEM. I work 60 hours a week and never complain I have no desire to give my hard earned money to the government to redistribute to the "Less Fortunate"

I don't care whom Jack Nicholson donates his money to, it's his money and his right to do what he likes with it. Don't we live in a free country?
Jack Nicholson is a great actor. That's all.

Steve   June 12th, 2008 2:40 pm ET

S. Wright..."Marxist Media"????? Do you have any idea what a Marxist is? You really need to get out of that basement apartment at your mom's house and get some sunshine. Step away from the radio, son. Go get yourself an education. I know, I know, anything more than a 5th grade education is "elitist" and "left wing" but believe me, there's a big beautiful world out there that you'll discover, once you learn to read without moving your lips.

Joe   June 12th, 2008 2:29 pm ET

I don't care about this at all!! Jack Nicholson has nothing to do with this election. The only thing I care about is getting this country back on track....by electing Barack Obama! I'm telling you all right now......LISTEN UP BOTH DEMOCRATS AND REPLUBLICANS....if you elect John McCain to the Presidency, we better get ready for WORLD WAR III. He seems very much like a war monger who's mad at foreigners, and determined to make somebody pay for the time he spent in Vietnamese custody as a POW. I admire him for his great service, but I'll be terrified if his finger is on the RED button in the White House. His temper gets the best of him too much, and could get us into trouble worldwide. I like the way Obama is calm not matter what the situation. Now THAT, is the leader America needs!!!

America is about the only country in the world that is still not socialist or communist or marxist or totalitarian. But if Obama takes office, his 'goverment handles everything' approach will send us down that road. Sorry, but it is 'what can we do for our country', not 'what can our country do for us.'

Angela   June 12th, 2008 2:08 pm ET

USAF: "Still being active duty I know myself and many of my friends will not be staying in if Obama is elected. I only have 5 years remaining untill retirement but will not serve it under Obama"

So you would throw your future away because? You did not say anything good about the Clintons–no pay raises, no defending the country, but those where the good old days, yes?. Give at least a good reason why you would not vote for Obama, and stop calling his supporters scary. I find Hillary's supporters much more frightening.

California Girl   June 12th, 2008 2:08 pm ET

Haven't yet decided to donate to Obama, though!

Obama has no where to go,from here, but down.......no experience, bad affiliations, questionable comments by his spouse, and a most liberal reputation in the Senate...............which all spell trouble for Obama.

Jack Nicholson can donate a Million Dollars to Obama and he will still win.. Looks like CNN has no real work now-a-days, since their favorite candidate Hillary was kicked away.

Uncle Sam   June 12th, 2008 1:49 pm ET

True believers in an Obama presidency are prepared to support their candidate regardless of the growing number of questions being raised about him. They would have us believe that everything we need to know about Barack Obama can be found on his website or in his autobiography. Only what Obama tells us about himself is to be believed. Anything else is a manufactured political distraction. So what are you going to believe – the Obama script or your lying eyes?

Change You Can Believe In.......Change I Can Believe In.......

I cannot believe any true patriot will continue to support the Republicans after what they've done. Take over a country with a $5.3 trillion surplus and run the highest deficit the country has ever had. Lied about the reason for the invasion, corruption in congress, phedophiles in congress. All the things we accussed the other party for doing. How can any evangelical continue to support these guys. I believe the party was hijacked a few years back. Wolves in sheep clothing. I am through with them until they can come around.

Super D:

1. You spelled supreme wrong.

2. Obama will not regulate your air conditioner...that is what your thermostat is for. (you know..the little round thingie that you can turn to make your house cold?) I'm sure he has much more important things to do like making sure gay marriage is EVERYWHERE!

3. Gay Marriage everywhere?? You really think that there will be gay people getting married everywhere?? I'm sure they'll keep it low key just as the heterosexual people do...

4. Terror Attacks????? The "terrorists" aren't going to attack us any more under a different president (and a much smarter one at that) than they did under GWB... do you think that George Bush had anything to do with stopping terror attacks? If anything, he let one slip through...

And ... the D stands for Douchebag.

marie   June 12th, 2008 1:39 pm ET

Is this web site bias to Obama and his wife? Looks to me that it is. I thought there were 2 people running for president and not just Obama. You talk about all these polls that are showing Obama ahead in the lead, but I haven't talk to one person who has ever had a phone call to ask "who is your choice for the president" Where are these polls being taken? ??????????????......................... on his private jet!

I don't ever remember hearing Obama promise to lower gas prices so I'm wondering why so many Obama supporters insinuate or think that he will. I also don't think he promised to lower the price of bread or milk. I'm all for supporting a candidate, but don't make it out like he is the all-mighty.

SJM   June 12th, 2008 1:33 pm ET

I love the comments of some peeps that they want Obama, or any candidate for that matter, for more than one term. How do you know how good a president is going to be until he actually becomes president and does something for the country. There is a reason why terms are limited. Just an example of how supporters are disillusioned with their candidate, and how Dems fall in love with a candidate or just succumb to the "in" thing to do.

Praetorian, Fort Myers   June 12th, 2008 1:31 pm ET

A Democrat in Novermberr

Your ignorance of compensation and beneifts is showing through.

Military personnel serving on active duty right now--are already provided most ofthe benefits you are subscribing to. Fact is: increasing those benefits needlessly will increase the burden on taxpayers for participation which is a standard of the military service contract each military member has elected (voluntarily) to sign. Your allegations are ridiculous!!!

Why bestow more benefits than required for a low intensity war?

Clearly you do not pay taxes–or pay coprorate level taxes–because just 1/3 of the new benefits would bankrupt our current G.I.bill, and Veterans Administration resources.

First of all...just to let you know.. your caps lock key is on.. you may want to check to see if you accidentally hit it before spamming the comments area...

Why would any story on CNN.com 'benefit' you? I'm sure the writers do not wake up saying "jesus...yet another day of trying to find stories to benefit Nancy...." and those that do probably hang themselves out of sheer boredom.

Also, this story does not put gas in your car? Well if you'd have spent the 8 hours it took you to come up with your comment and instead gone to work for the day, you would have made at least 50 bucks from your minimum wage job and then you'd have some gas money!

And finally, if you don't know the "issues" that the candidates stand on by now you haven't been paying attention to the 1000000 other stories out there on the internet. Go do some research instead of looking at the political ticker for your daily dose of BS candidate news. You need to seriously consider every candidate and unfortunately only relying on cnn.com to provide that information to you is not going to be enough. Watch the debates, research more sites online, read about what other people's experiences are from the past primarys, etc. THEN (oops my caps lock key was pressed... ;) ) you will know more about where the candidates stand on "the issues".

My 2 cents.

How on Earth can a rational woman make the leap from Hillary to McCain?

McCain believes that birth control should not be covered by health insurance. (I wonder if he feels the same way about Viagra and testosterone patches?) He believes in abstinence-only education. He thinks that the Roe v. Wade ruling was an "error", and he's willing to attempt to overturn it.

On top of that, let's flash back to when Mr. McCain returned from his captivity in Vietnam. He returned to his 1st wife, mother of his eldest three kids, who had been waiting faithfully the whole time. However, while he was away, his 1st wife had been in a disfiguring car accident that took several inches off of her height. What'd McCain do, as soon as she was no longer the beauty-queen? He kicked her wheelchair to the curb, and within a month of his finalized divorce, picked up his millionaire, 19-years-his-junior, heiress trophy wife.

Yeah, what a woman's candidate. So how about it, former-Hillary, now-McCain supporters? I honestly want to know how you can make the leap. It baffles me.

fairandstraight   June 12th, 2008 1:11 pm ET

Anna, if he donated to every one except Sen. Obama, he maybe one of those if it's not a white dem then it's McCain.

I noticed in the blog if you mention Obamas middle name you are somehow creating chaos? Most of us have a middle name, and some even prefer their middle name over their first name. His father named him and we know where he came from. When he was in college his choice was Barry as a first name? I must admit Barry Obama sounds better then Barrack Hussein Obama. Too easy to confuse with Saddam Hussien, or Osama bin Laden?

D.C.   June 12th, 2008 1:08 pm ET

What a waste of space this story is. It just gives those who cannot even use their real names a place to spit their venom one way or the other.

Celebrities are just people with a lot of money. The only thing that could count is that by supporting Obama, he's not a greedy as most of these weathy folks. That's a good thing.

McCain is the biggest flip-flopper I've ever seen... he might once have had some respect from me as a maverick, but of late – he's just Dubbya's twin running for Dubbya's third term.

that shows he has no morals, scruples or self-respect. Or, perhaps, he's just too McMouldy to remember what he used to believe.

Too bad we don't all have McRich wives and private planes to travel on. Then we wouldn't have to worry about a job, a home, money to buy gasoline, healthcare, constitutional rights to not be tortured or having to serve multiple tours in an illegal and immoral war.

Voting for McCain is voting for the man who voted against the GI bill which would have helped give BACK what Bush, McCain and most of the other Republicans cut back during the past seven years.

For a party that claims so much loyalty to our troops, they are then ones who have consistently cut back on their benefits when they come home.

You want to honor our troops, then give them their benefits back. Vote Democrat!

GOP --Voters are not stupid, please STOP   June 12th, 2008 12:32 pm ET

I don't know why MCCAIN has not resorted to a senior living in Florida. Hs should be a retired civil servant. He does not have a clue on the WAR, ECONOMY, and his Foreign Policy is based on traveling the world liek a tourist. Even the GOP knows this but its too late to come up with someone else–who? anyway...

Retire, relax, sit on your rocking chair and rest in peace mccain. Cindy has money you can enjoy in your retirement.

Of course you are goind down in the polls because you are now obsessed and focused on Michelle and Barack Obama and not on the issues. Learn from the primaries!!!

I dont even know how these repubelican fear mongers succeed.I mean, comon – look at the facts. We have almost all the latest advanced weapon systems. Our army is super strong. We have bases in more than 100 countries. Our naval fleets are almost always prepared for possible threats.

We cant even compare to the terrorist attacks menace that other countries face.

I ASK YOU, WHAT SHOULD WE FEAR FROM? If at all anyone should be afraid, it must be our enemies.

What could infact be more dangerous is electing a president who doesnt know/remember his view on things. We(or the world) cannot afford another "war" chanter.Say NO to McOld.

Ask these War/Fear mongers to shove it up their you know what !

One correction SuperD, the Obama campaign – although they talk about supporting gay rights – don't really like the gays. Trust me. I was at a rally held near a gay bar in Iowa when they had Secret Service remove all the gays from the area so the media could not see them. They didn't want it to look like they were endorsing "that lifestyle".

Next time, get your facts rights.

President Obama will cut all these gifts off and give the money to everyday citizens that deserve them

I can't believe the total lack of objective reasoning among the Obama suporters.

Is it really necessary to recreate all of the mistakes of the 20th century to satisfy you idiots?

If someone wants to kill you despite political efforts to change their minds–you don't just close your eyes and hope they will go away. Your wives, and children would expect better. You would exert every resource at your disposable to remove the threat to your family.

Well you embeciles-Al Qaida is just such a threat. And I have to say the majority of American males are definitely show their lack of testrosterone by supporting the Obama regime.

I don't knowabout all that...but I want to know why Obama is afraid to use his full name? Most former Presidents had no problems using their full names. Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Harry S Truman,Dwight David Eisenhower,John Fitzgerald Kennedy, Lyndon Baines Johnson,
Richard Milhous Nixon, Gerald Rudolph Ford, James Earl Carter,
Ronald Wilson Reagan,George Herbert Walker Bush, William Jefferson, and George Walker Bush were not afraid to use their full names. WHY IS OBAMA AFRAID TO USE HIS FULL NAME??? Hmmm

So gives a crap!!!!
He can't control his temper...and he's spent a lifetime prostituing his ideals for "what the viewers/public expect.
Are Americans really so ignorant as to wait to decide their own political alliances for the "cameo/crappolla" of a totally uninvolved actor?
Unlikely this Bozo's feedback will change the face of the electorate–but good try.

Let's vote for a candidate who is really representing everyone!!.. Bob Barr 2008...the President who will actually change business as usual in Washington and return the process to voters–not special fiscal/social intersts.

Whatever you decide Jack-more power to you. But if you believe that a golf club wielding drug addict and filanderer will sway the majority of Americans–you're misguided and under the influence of suspected illegal substance (at least under current laws).

Drink a toddy...go to bed. Focus on what you do but do not try to influence the majority of Americans who work 50 hours per week trying to keep up with all the government _ _ _ _ ups.

Somehow, I don't think Clinton, who signed the original legislative laws as, public law 105-235, and public law 105-338 entitled "The Iraq Liberation Act of 1998" will take too kindly to you stating that he LIED to get us into Iraq.

If you want to talk about lying, look at what your last two presidential candidates, who supported those laws I brought up, were saying in 2003 and 2004.

However, he will have a news conference on June 18, 3:00 pm.
This will be sponsored by Yeritas Federal Media at the Lisagor Room.
This event is not affiliated with NPR.

Why does Lisa need to save 30 dollars, is she takeing another trip back to Europe? We need roads and bridges fixed, gas prices lowered, food prices lowered, lower college tuition interest rates, I could go on and on. Obama won and Hillary lost. Plain and simple. It happens in all sporting contests and the supporters for the 2nd place team don't come back and ask the 1st place team to give up the trophy so they can have it. You accept it and life goes on. Like the saying goes. Only 2 sure things in life. DEATH & TAXES. We just have to make the best of all the rest life has to offer.

Yes, findings by the Senate that perfectly follow party lines are obviously news and not political pandering and BS. How about we report that the Iraqi parliament passes more laws in a quarter than the US senate passes in a year.

Will in Richmond, VA   June 12th, 2008 11:31 am ET

Well. Jack, You may as well keep your money! It's the Jack Jinx, everyone!!

And for those of you that feel Obama is too inexperienced:

Only a fool, no matter how experienced he/she may be, would think they know everything. Obama has surrounded himself with the best people and uses THEIR experience. Which is what a SMART person would do. Just look at how he managed his campaign so far. How much experience did it take for Hillary to think she would win by Super Tuesday? How much experience did it take to decide to go to war in Iraq? How much experience did it take to support this 'gas-tax holiday'? Most of these people only have experience being politicians.

I'll take Obama's inexperienced smarts any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

All you people trying to bring up Larry Sinclair are (yet again) misguided. So basically, if I say that McCain, Hillary, and i were getting crazy in Flagstaff hotel room a few years back, my words will instill enough doubt to make you blog-arrhea all over the place?

When someone makes a CLAIM, they have to back it up, and Larry Sinclair can't. Period. Take it from someone who works in state service, there are ALWAYS baseless accusations being made against famous people, and just becuase someone knows how to get the word out doesn't mean they're full of it.

Read this article: h**p://deathby1000papercuts.com/2008/04/larry-sinclair-obama-accusers-murky-past/
