(CNN)— Barack Obama seized on rival John McCain’s recent comment that it’s “not too important” when troops start being withdrawn from Iraq, reminding voters Thursday that the Arizona senator has also said he would keep troops in the country for 100 years.
“I agree that obviously the most important thing is making sure that our young men and women aren't killed,” Obama said at a town hall event in Wisconsin. “But the notion that if they are not being killed that we can leave them there in perpetuity, 100 years John McCain says,” would be insensitive to the ‘burden’ the troops families face while having their loved ones over seas Obama said.
McCain was asked on NBC’s Today show Wednesday if he could estimate when troops could be expected home from Iraq.
"No, but that's not too important," McCain responded. "What's important is the casualties in Iraq. Americans are in South Korea. Americans are in Japan. American troops are in Germany. That's all fine. American casualties and the ability to withdraw; we will be able to withdraw."
Obama, who has been taking a more populist approach to voters lately, also sought to hone in on their money concerns reminding them about the sky rocketing costs of the Iraq war.
“[McCain’s] also not thinking about tax payers who are spending $10-12 billion a month in Iraq,” The Illinois senator said.
Adding, the money spent in Iraq could go toward job creation in the U.S.

Stop with your lies repubs about Obama not being born on american soil. I know you guys are desperate, as it is hard to accept your party is evil and does not serve Americans but you really look even worse when you lie and that's saying alot. You guys are pathetic.
"Freedwoman" it sounds like you are still in captivity!
McCain is a warhead I tire of paying my middle income tax to bush and McCain war in Iraq
President Obama bring our troops home
No real need to remind them becasue McSame does it himself every couple weeks. Then in between he contradicts himself. When we bring the troops home is not important right McSame. As long as they are not dying it doesnt matter. Well in order for them to not die it means that many more will have to die for oil and greed. It matters to me McSame and it makes me very very bitter.
All you OCARTER people know he did not say we would be fighting for 100 yrs. We are still in Germany after 60 yrs. Go read a history book, most of you sound like teenagers. Why would I vote for someone who has a following of cool aid drinker like you. Hillary supporters go to Clinton4McCain.com or justsaynodeal.com. join the people that feel your pain . McClinton 08 Hillary 2012.
The warmonger, McBush, will only bring our troops home in flag covered boxes. I guess it dosen't matter when or how they come home.
Senator McCain :stated that he will not surrender in Iraq well did anyone tell him that IRAN will cause the US troops to be forced out...
McBush Policy in IRAQ is over.....
Wait until HRC get a hold of McSame's other cheek. The DNC is going to rip him a new one.
Since the NRC are unable to debate the issue they result in ole' style policticing...Smear Campaign!
Not this time, not this year. Yes we can!

John McCain revived the Bittergate comments and Obama didn't complain. After this we're going to see McCain and his campaign complain by saying Obama is playing dirty.
============================
Obama, the DNC, and the Media have all played dirty....a movement is in the making....look out Obamabots!!!!!!!
How do you figure Barack isn't an American Citizen? The last time I checked Hawaii had been a state for some time. The ignorance in these posts is incredible.
Mcbush has no clue what we are going through. He is more concerned about an elusive "victory" to pump his old man's ego than to take care of the kids we are raising in America. That is why Obama always care about his children.
He is concerned about the children he is raising himself. McWar didn't care about the children he left home when he was making himself comfortable in hanoi "prison". He didn't care about them when he came back:
He dumped them for the millions of the beer princess.
What a fake.
To McCain
As a military wife I have to tell you it does matter when my husband comes home from Iraq.
As for them coming home with honor ....you idiot! they have HONOR
already. They have done everyday they have been asked to do and more.
Can you explain to me who are we surrendering to???? We are not fighting another country to surrender. This is a civil war.
Rep. Travis Childers (D-MS), on left, and Rep. Heath Shuler (D-NC), on right, won't back Barack Obama.
More bad news for hope and change.
2 more Moderate Democrats bail on Obama.
The Politico reported:
OBAMA'S SHIP IS SINKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We still have around five more months of soundbites from mccain. Wow. Mccain should just barricade himself in one of his many houses and not say a word until election day. I believe he would have a better chance of winning that way.
OBAMA 08
McSame is clueless
Freedwoman : I suggest you take a geography and history course (if you can read, that is). Hawai, as far as I know is part of the United States.
Obama keep up the good work. Dont even bother with the comments of these people who are against you. They are infinitesimal all day!!! Continue to make a difference and stay focused! Obama 08/12
Mccan is trying to play dirty politics but it won`t work this time. Not with Obama
Freedwoman:
Get your facts right before you comment. He is an American just like you even more so at least hes doing something for his country.
What are you doing for your country????
Withdrawing in Iraq is not a sign of Failure. It is sign that there is some progress, it is up to the Iraqis if they want the American to stay for so long.
Little by little and depends on what our brave and smart men and women in combat can make that suggestion but mostly is more humanitarian aid. We dont want to be look as colonizer but spreading liberty and peacemaker. helping those under tyranny and under slavery.
It is not wise for the 2 presidential candidate to visit Iraq at this time if the situation is still risky. An invitation of Sen. McCain to Sen.Obama is not very wise. A good American Pres. dont need to be present to know the exact situation. we have advancement of technology to do web cam to discuss with the General whats going on. we have very smart men and women as foot soldier to do and spread the goodwill of America. We have allies and interpol to help us.
A good American President to be, need to tackle the 4 E, Economy, Education, Energy and Environment plus health care, immigration and foreign policy; then we will have security. To have a good image of American change the behavior of some Hollywood people.
Obama and his supporters are just misrepresenting what McCain stated. Everyone knows what Mccain meant when he said that we would stay in Iraq in Iraq for 100 years.I am not a McCain supporter, however, I think it would be reckless for us to leave that country without having some military presence there. We are still in Japan , South Korea, Italy and Germany we have been in these countries for over 50 years. Obama is playing dirty politics like all the rest of Washington. The more time goes by the more Obama seems to be less and less electable.
McCain is Bush on steroids with a Napolean complex. He is a very dangerous man.
What happens more?
Obama stuttering ....Uhhhhh....Ummmm...
or Pelosi blinking her eyes?
Gonna be a big number!
The people that are going to vote for Obama because "the economy is bad" make me so sick! I understand this is a HUGE issue, but it is not the ONLY one. You Obamabots are so ready to sell your COUNTRY for a loaf of bread! Just take a moment to think about those who have given THEIR LIVES for us.....GO AHEAD AND VOTE FOR THE MAN THAT HAS VOWED TO DISARM AMERICA AND JUST SEE WHAT HAPPENS TO OUR BELOVED NATION!!!!
HILLARY CLINTON SUPPORTERS
FOR MCCAIN 08
So, he is still better than you, Obama...
