Meghan McCain gave her father an early Father's Day gift.

(CNN)—Meghan McCain gave her father an early Father’s Day gift Friday when she changed her political party affiliation from an Independent to a Republican.

Joined by her mother, Cindy McCain, the younger McCain re-registered at the State Capitol Executive Building in Phoenix, Arizona.

In a statement on the aspiring first daughter’s blog, Meghan McCain explained she made the decision as a symbol of commitment to her father.

Meghan McCain, who was registered as an Independent since she was old enough to vote, said in a statement the choice represents her faith in her father’s “ability to be an effective leader for our country and to grow and strengthen the Republican Party when he is elected President of the United States.

“Happy Father's Day, Dad!” she also said.

Unfortunately, you are going to be unable to hide for the Second Coming. We as a people should be willing to unite as one. As Democrat and parent, I am proud to see Meghan supporting her father. But why did she wait until now to change. Her father has been a Republican running for office for many years. And then I question if in the past the very party she is switching too, she had absolutely no trust in. Technically speaking she is not in support of the party, just the nominee of the party.. I bet if her father was not running she would be supporting Obama!!!!!! But I do commend her for supporting her father.

Yea right — how can truly be a republican when your dad has been a republican for so long and you were registered as a independent. Just goes to show that she didn't believe in the republican BS.

I guess Chelsea's push for her mom's candiacy pushed McCain's advisors to force his daughter to move in his direction. What a crock!!

OBAMA WILL CRUSH MCCAIN — YOU IDIOTS THAT WANT 4 MORE YEARS OF BUSH ARE CRAZY!!

Shelby Y.   June 13th, 2008 2:11 pm ET

Hey Bill in FL, thats really tough of you to insult young children. If they are anything like their mother then I guess that means they too will become first ladies. I wonder if your mother knows what a low life jerk she raised.

To lil McCain, thats so sweet of you, I'm sure he loved the Fathers Day gift. But I'm sorry your Daddy still going to lose.

Tom Soppe, Portland, OR   June 13th, 2008 2:08 pm ET

Another warm fuzzy folksy feelgood story about the GOP candidate, right after another manufactured non-issue story about supposed image problems with the Dem (bike helmet). Typical big media bias.

Just as well. You shouldn't run if you can't win your daughters vote.

Marie in California   June 13th, 2008 2:04 pm ET

I'm with you, Meghan. I'm also changing my voter registration to Republican…..but from Democrat.

I am totally disgusted at the machinations of the DNC and their Far Left radical fringe (Kennedy, Pelosi, Richardson, Dean, etc.) as they managed, by all sorts of questionable means, to push, shove and drag Obama over the finish line when they met in DC a couple of weeks ago. Obama was selected…..not elected. That sucks.

As for Obama….if I recall correctly, the book about JFK was "The Making of a President." In this nomination, I expect any book about Obama could be called "The Snaking of a President."

women might want to go look on how McCain voted. He's not a good choice for women and thats going to be a major issue in a few months. Its funny how alot of women (hillary supporters) said they are going to vote for McCain without doing any research. A vote for McCain defeat everythang the hillary movement was about. Look up how MCain voted ladys and get serious. Women came to far in this world to be dragged down by this man. I wish all of you well.

Greenbayguy   June 13th, 2008 1:52 pm ET

Not really a story, but no different than Obama wearing a bike helmet. Neither of these candidates are "top shelf." What is really sad is reading the many rabid comments from those who apparently can't think for themselves. Supporting one candidate does not have to mean ripping the opponent to shreds. You don't get to be a presidential candidate without have some human worth and value to humanity.

wow. McCain's daughter supports him. Well, that may make me reconsider! Wait. Is she his daughter from Cindy or from a previous wife? Or is she a step-daughter? I truly don;t know the answer. I can't remember when he abandoned the last wife?

Nova from NV   June 13th, 2008 1:46 pm ET

Here's how politicians make money:
1. purchase a piece of real estate at market or below market price.
2. Have one of your friends purchase that real estate for a very high inflated value.
3. Repeat step one.

That's how Obama made money in Chicago with his now-convicted felony friend Rezko. Go ahead Obamabots, try to fact check this one on FightTheSmear.com

Glad to be an Independent   June 13th, 2008 1:45 pm ET

McCain's daughter should feel she is free to maker her own choices. My parents are Democrats, but I am not. I am an Independent. I have NO DESIRE to be a DEMOCRAT and I HAVE NO DESIRE to be a REPUBLICAN. Neither party satisfies me enough to join them. My young people like myself are Independents. I would love for the majority of the electorate to become independents. I would love for the election law barriers to come down in each state so that we can have true democracy. I want more viable political parties. The majority of Americans are centrists or moderates which means the really are not Democrats nor Republicans. Sure the U.S. is not a true democracy, it is a republic. More competition will lead to better government. I would love to have a debate with 4 presidential candidates from 3 different political parties.

Kerry is a Vietnam Vet – The Republicans and even the vets swiftboated him.
Now they back McCain

Kerry received Purple hearts – The Republicans wore mock purple hearts on their faces at the Republican convention.
Now they back Mc Cain

Kerry married a rich woman – Republicans stated that he married her for her money
Now they back McCain

Kerry was faithful to his wives – McCain had an affair with a woman who didn't care that he was married with children.
Now they back McCain

So much for the, "Party with Values"

P.S. Just where IS that Flag Pin John??

Hey Uncle Sam, I went through hell for my fellow Americans: me and my family put up with the idiot YOU elected to office for the last 8 years. That doesn't necessarily make me presidential material. And McCain's prisoner-of-war experience doesn't alone qualify him to be president either. Your weak logic bespeakes the weakness of McCain's campaign. You neo-tards do not really support him; you are merely mourning the loss of your kool-aide when king george goes away.

Ahhh…how sweet ! But then, what else can this "little rich girl" give her father who probably has everything. ( NOT THE HONOR OF BEING THE PRESIDENT ) For her sake, let's just hope that all the "DIRT" on her father and mother does not come out in the general election. Yeh, she probably knows all about it, however, being broadcast on TV would probably make it worse. So….Meghan, tell your father to keep it clean. SORRY…he will not be President !!!!

Monica   June 13th, 2008 1:25 pm ET

The idea behind it is very charming to give that to Dad on Father's Day. But I think it gives fuel to the republican base that are not comfortable with McCain that his family is just now registering as members of the party that gave him a shot at the White House.

Ken   June 13th, 2008 1:24 pm ET

Yeh, she and at most 30 other retards throughout the whole counrty re-registered as [R]. It takes a truly confused or disturbed individual to want to continue America's slide back into the Dark Ages. But the [R]s have hope: America's voting IQ is little higher than the price of gas in dollars, as evidenced by the last two elections. Talk about two MONUMENTAL mistakes! And the toothless 28% true-believers celebrate on with McCain!

Lisa CA   June 13th, 2008 1:24 pm ET

Smart girl!!! I am changing my voter registration from democrat to republican, because of the sad shape the democratic party has set up the primary's. Candidates who get more votes get less pledged delates, Caucus states get more pledged delegates (thousands vote) than primary states (millions vote). They give pledged delegates to the loser from the winner (Michigan). Now Dean is out there calling everyone who criticizes Obama a racist (even though Obama and Michelle spent 20 years in a racist church!!!)

People need to stop saying Obama is playing race card. Stop dealing the race card with lies and it won't be played!! If people start personally attacking Cindy Mccain, oh that would be so wrong. Or start attacking Mccain age!!

Conservatives radio talk shows, Conservative supporters, Conservatives TV talk shows and Conservatives Media better be careful about what you dish out. Because what you dish out, you normally can't take. You better stop personally attacking Obama and his wife or McCain and his wife will be subjected to the same thing. This is a world of internet, u-tube and websites. McCain left his first sick wife to be with Cindy. Cindy had a drug problem. I know this would be dirty to bring out, but keep attacking the Obama's and this would be fair games. Keep being dirty FOX News, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and etc., you are only hurting your own party because it will backfire!!

Luis   June 13th, 2008 12:45 pm ET

Stop it! Oh, the pain, my ribs……the non-stop laugher……:)

I personally want to thank the Communist News Network and you Liberal morons for hours of entertainment. Your mindless, cult-like devotion to the second coming of Jimmy Carter keeps me laughing everyday.

The fact that you have nothing of substance to discuss when it comes to your messiah (name a significant accomplishment) and his racist wife and church (he only quit for political expediency and I applaud Wacko Wright for pointing that out) proves that Liberalism is a mental disorder.

Thank you so much. I predict that at least 55%-60% of America sees this media creation for what he is in November and back to the church he goes.

Peace out Morons, LOL

Stacy   June 13th, 2008 12:44 pm ET

McCain is dumb….. really . People who want McCain want to like go back to the ford T model days or something.
McCain is computer illiterate……. you need computer skills for most jobs nowadays….. is being president exempt from this requirement?

Sherri   June 13th, 2008 12:43 pm ET

Goodness, if a daughter didn't vote for her father, what kind of family would that be? This is a sweet story, but is it really news? I'm glad that Meghan McCain loves her father, that's all that this story tells us.

Obama's beautiful daughters are too young to vote, but they love their father too.

I wish my own dad were alive and I could wish him a happy father's day.

Obama has my vote. He represents the America I believe in.

christina   June 13th, 2008 12:43 pm ET

Umm, excuse me, Meghan is it? Dear CNN forgot to finish the headline for your article so please allow me to do it for them:

Meghan McCain is writing a children's book…and NOBODY CARES!!!

Gas is over $4 a gallon (I drive a jag and my gas cost a LOT more than that), our troops are being killed everyday for nothing, the economy of the US is the worst that it's been since the stock market crash of the '20s and you [CNN] are telling me that this senseless stupidity is news??? Write an article that we'll care about, here's an idea:

GEORGE BUSH IMPEACHED AND GOES DOWN IN HISTORY AS THE ABSOLUTE WORST PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!

UH OHHHH!!   June 13th, 2008 12:42 pm ET

OK so SHE is the one who wants to be a public figure right? SHE wants the fame so her books will sell right?? SO she is open to comments and all I have to say is…….

THIS picture they show reminds me of the MYSPACE photo you see in the joke online where you only see her face but it crops out the rest of her 200+ Pounds. Lets just say she is NOT Thin like Cindy AT ALL. WOW!!

Is there any way to moderate only those comments that directly apply to the topic at hand? Love or Hatred of John McCain; Affection or Disaffection with Barack Obama does not advance the debate and signifies a closed mind and shallow thoughts.

I wish Meghan McCain kept her independence.

Mike the Independent from Ohio   June 13th, 2008 12:32 pm ET

Both canidates are jokes, however, after reading what Obama supporters have to say about everything, there is no way I would ever vote for Obama, Obama supporters scare me…. they funny thing is they think they are all right, which is even scarier

Faith in her father? What else could she say?

Patty   June 13th, 2008 12:31 pm ET

Oh poor barack hussein obama, there he goes again playing the race card. Whenever he feels pushed into a corner he plays race. He did it behind the scenes with the Clintons. Pres. Clinton is no racist, but obama is. If he does not want anyone to say anything about his wife then maybe he should keep her at home. She is scarry and she did say some pretty off the wall statements. I can not imagine her being the 1st lady of our great country. GO HILLARY

I'm not sure this is the best article to blog, but since all others are closed. I just wanted to talk about how my small town family of farmers shocked me last night during a politic discussion by saying they would absolutely vote for Obama over McCain! I never thought I would hear my iron-clad republican father say he would vote for a democrat in my whole life! Wow! Barak Obama is a special man, indeed, in how he can cross party lines and reach out to what people need and believe in! A true man for the people! GO OBAMA! You can do it! Your great policies, faith, and hope for a better future has inspired so many! This isn't about "oh, McCain is soooooooo bad, my only choice is to vote for Obama" This is real American people wanting a new America! One they can be proud of, that has respect from the world, and one that they can feel safe raising their children…

Hey CNN, your bias is showing…

Can you stop with the softball articles about John McCain and show negative stories about him on your main page like you do constantly for Obama? The media infatuation with McCain has been ridiculous.

Dave   June 13th, 2008 12:22 pm ET

You Obamites are sickening. CNN, you are little better than the National Enquirer. Amazing how crybaby Barack whines about how him and his wife might be picked on while they both insult McCain about his age. Then the Obama sheep follow up with their hateful little rant. If Obama does trick his way into the Whitehouse, I hope that the Obamites are the first people hurt by his socialist policies.
I doubt this will make it past the CNN censors.

Stef in Ohio   June 13th, 2008 12:22 pm ET

You had better get a grip because your in for a big surprise. The
Republicians that were going to vote for Clinton are now back to
McCain, and the Dems are not going to vote of they will vote for McCain.

They are not crossing over to Obama. I manage a country club with
2900 members from the ages of 22 to 90 and I can tell you this
is the talk every single day. 95 % are not voting for Obama, Dems
or Rep. So put that in you pipe and smoke it.

It's sad that CNN decides that this is news rather than the fact that McCain is stuffing his 'townhalls' with nothing but supporters and donors, thowing out anyone who dares ask a difficult question. But then CNN has always been in bed with the Republicans.

It is obvius! Not the republican voters are scary but the republican leaders are on every level. They make America looks like a 3 world country, economicly and politicoly.
Republicans I invite you to step on the train of change today, you wil
not regret it.
The wind of change is not only among America but
over the whole world. This world needs desperetly a change of politics for the sake of the people that live on it and also for this
planets nature.

Obama wil not have all the answers but he is inspire so many people alreddy. I am so full of hope for this world.
Americans do not realize yet how special her nex President wil be.
I think Barack Hussein Obama does not realize that himself but we can see and we can feel it here in Europe!
He is a gift of heaven in this broken world.

I have only one big fear and that is the protection of Barack.
It would be a great desaster when someting bad happends to him.
Then this world wil be in shock and morn even intenser then when
the Kennedy's died.

America, give Barack Obama your trust, he wil be a good President.
When he is elected I wil experience the same extraordinairy happy feelings as I did when Nelson Mandela was released.
What a hopeful time to live in.

Europe for Obama!!

With love from the Netherlands
I follow the elections every day from day one because it wil effects us all.

(Sorry for my bad English)

OG Straight Talk   June 13th, 2008 11:59 am ET

Who cares! There are many men and women in Iraq who their children cannot see them to express/share their thoughts. They are needed at home but Sen. McCain does not think that their coming home matters? There is a saying that when the dead body of someone else is being carried it looks like a log of wood to an outsider, but if you can be in the shoes of the relatives then you understand that is not funny to be deprived of a loved one whether dead or alive! Sen. McCain should stop using "war hero" title as a shield against the reality and sufferings of others, because no one dare question whatever he says or motives.

I agree that this is not news. Neither is the article showing Obama riding a bike.

Since another article is already closed, I'll comment here:

Obama is scary not because he is black but because he so very naive and inexperienced. God knows what would happen to the US if he were ever allowed to step foot into the White House.

Michelle Obama – now that is scary. Looks mean, speaks rough, not to mention she is a complete fashion disaster. I can't even imagine her as a first lady.

This black and white seperation is because Obama keeps trying to get the sympathy vote for skin color. His supporters want to bring up the sufferings of the blacks, what about the Irish who worked in sweat shops in New York? What about other races who have been abused in this great land? You would think only black people were ever inslaved? Get over it. Accusing everyone who opposes him of being a racist. If you think he is too much like Carter, you are a racist. The GOP have not been able to overturn Roe v Wade in all the years we've had a Republican President. The Supreme Court just handed Bush a major defeat on Gitmo. The Supreme Court nominee must be approved by the Senate. McCain has said he will nominate moderate judges. The fear tactic by Obama, that somehow Roe v Wade will be overturned, is just that, a tactic. I will write Hillary Clinton on my ballot in November, because I don't like either one of the remaining choices

David, Silver Spring, MD   June 13th, 2008 11:53 am ET

TO OBAMA SUPPORTERS!!!!

I am an Obama supporter, and I must speak to my fellow supporters. Your comments are quite childish and ridiculous at times. Could you please stop with the pettiness and childish name calling? Stick to the facts. Let others go down that path, but do you realize that some people actually look at Obama's supporters as a reflection of him. Although I do find that absolutely ludicrous, I know that they do. Because I am a true supporter of him, I'm not going to resort to this level of ridiculousness. Please take it upon yourself to do the same.

ou sound like a idiot, normally I do not attack someone for there opinion however these are kids, and you are supposed to be a grown up (maybe), do not allow your political beliefs be the reason you are percieved as a idiot, "ooops to late". How would you feel if someone talked about your family.

Linda Esen   June 13th, 2008 11:49 am ET

Now : SHE IS SCARY

Chris from San Antonio   June 13th, 2008 11:48 am ET

"Meghan McCain explained she made the decision as a symbol of commitment to her father"

Hmm. It wasn't because of the politics her father stands for? It wasn't for his position on abortion? It wasn't for his stance on the Iraq War?

No, it was because she loves her father. Quite telling, that.

tina   June 13th, 2008 11:48 am ET

Go ahead Megan, thanks for the commitment. Too bad your father can't and won't commit to whats best for the U.S.A. We need to get our troops out of Iraq.

Its going to take a lot more than just her vote to elect McBush, and it is not going to happen!

BTW…I'm a former Republican who is uniting with the Democrats this time around.

Sebastian   June 13th, 2008 11:48 am ET

How do you know she isn't going to vote for Barr or Obama … we can all remember Ron Reagan Jr. didn't support his father's campaign.

Honestly, wouldn't this be closer to be a relevant blurb of news ONLY IF she were registering as a Democrat?

Gabrielle, Lancaster SC   June 13th, 2008 11:47 am ET

On another thought, I feel like it is almost pointless to post on these boards. People here have already decided who they are going to vote for, and the political tickers only confirm how they feel regardless of what the story is reporting.
I hope people realize that those who post here only represent a very, very small segment of the voting public. I am sure that there are people who are undecided who are actually going to vote based on policy and what is truly best for the people in this country.

Obama '08

geecee827   June 13th, 2008 11:46 am ET

Will she be campaigning for her father the way Chelsea did for Hillary? Chelsea is a smart young woman who will definitely get far in politics in the future. I hope she decides to stay involved, even though her mother didn't win the nomination. I have been an Obama supporter from the beginning and am pleased at the way things have turned out with the Democratic Party. We had a lot of good choices this primary season. Obama and his wife will make a great President and First Lady. Michelle Obama is an excellent speaker. She is inspiring and shows what can be accomplished when someone has good character. Women should always stay involved in the political process, that's for sure. I hope McCain's daughter does more than just register to vote as a Republican. Heaven knows, he needs all the help he can get!! (Not that it will do much good, anyway).

Texas Trail Dog   June 13th, 2008 11:46 am ET

ROB – WA: Boy what a comment " "BOY! SHE'S HOT" That's exactly what I'm talking about out of you AAs. Blonde and beautiful. I see frothing at the mouth. AND TO THINK IF OBAMA HAS HIS WAY THE PENAL INSTITUTIONS WILL HAVE THEIR DOORS OPENED UP AND THESE KIND OF PEOPLE WILL BE WALKING THE STREETS AGAIN IN SEARCH OF PREY. AND YOU WONDER WHY US HILLARY SUPPORTERS WILL NOT VOTE FOR THE LIKES OF OBAMA. DEAR LORD DELIVER US FROM THIS EVIL.

Not quite a bais party, is she. Also, it might have meant more if you changed it before he was the nominee of that party. Of course you want your daddy to be Pres. regardless of whether he is right for the country.

jfs Memhis, Tn   June 13th, 2008 11:45 am ET

How thoughtful. Maybe she can campaign for her father as Chelsea did for Sen Clinton?? That shoul push him MUCH higher in the polls.

OBAMA 08

Susan   June 13th, 2008 11:44 am ET

As bad as George W. Bush was in office…and you would think we couldn't get any worse…it will if Obama is elected…he is an empty suit with no experience…just a bunch of talk…I mean…look what the guy said about gas prices…sounds like he thinks it is ok they are so high…just thinks they should have had a more gradual climb so the consumer could adjust better to it…that is just ridiculous…can't imagine what will happen with all the other important issues that are waiting in the White House…he is totally not ready for any of it and that scares me beyond belief.

He is already playing the Race Card and the Patriot Card…he will stop at nothing to get into office..I think there will be a lot of buyers remorse if he wins…and then it is too late.

If not Hillary..then McCain in '08

mary   June 13th, 2008 11:44 am ET

Hey McCain. It's time to let the cat out of the bag. Let's see all the kids. Something about the family not going to work for you politcally? Oh and who do you leave out and who do you include in the photo? The kids and mom you dumped?

Dan, Mpls, MN   June 13th, 2008 11:44 am ET

Anyone who reverts to dirty politics is a scumbag. Maybe the media should bring the affairs that John McCain had. How about Cindy McCain? What kind of dirt can we find on her?

Now that's real   June 13th, 2008 11:43 am ET

I think that I'm going to puke. McCain has proven and shown that he is mentally and physically incompetent to be president.

She should support Obama if she doesn't want to be drafted.

I wonder if she would volunteer to serve in Iraq? Hmmm. Ask Daddy.

aaron from minneapolis   June 13th, 2008 11:43 am ET

I prefer to see Senator McCain's mother out campaigning for him.
She seems more energetic than his granddaughter.
But his daughter may possibly appeal to young voters, who are Obama's base. It may help.

Why is CNN covering everything McCains daughter is doing. I know she's pretty and blond but who cares. Are we going to track Obama's little girls and how many new teeth they get?

Inquiring Minds   June 13th, 2008 11:41 am ET

Here's a father's day question for McCain: why is one daughter so much more publically visable than the other?

This election could do so much to advance our attitudes towards race and ethnicity. And I'm not just talking about Obama. Why doesn't McCain find a tasteful way to celebrate the fact that he has a mixed race family? Inquiring minds want to know

Chris from San Antonio   June 13th, 2008 11:41 am ET

Well that settles it. I'm voting for McCain. If he's got the daughter vote locked up, he's the man for me.

why not tell your father to go back to where he belongs. He is too old for this. He will get more sick very soon by running around too much.
Do you remeber what your father said about Clintons' daughter that she is not beautiful are your beautiful no.

Geeezz, is this really news, what daughter would no support her father, even if he is a George Bush third term type of guy, will he send his daughter off to Iraq and fight—as he stated that soldiers coming home was not important to him—he actually said that soldiers coming home to their families–wives, children, mom's and dad's were not important to him.

America, we only have one choice to get ourselves out of this hole, vote Obama, think, a vote for McCain is a vote for another 4 years in Iraq, 9 years our kids have died in Iraq, can we stand this anymore, unless you are Exxon, you love it……….

To: You Go Hillary @ 10:56

You only make yourself look stupid when you write if not Hillary then McCain.

Hillary and McCain views on the issues are TOTALLY different. You just supported another reason why Hillary lost. She received votes not on her own merit but because some american wanted to see a "woman" president. (there a plenty of better woman candidates than Hillary)

Women wear dresses and skirts occasionally. Hillary didn't.

Obama 08′

Bostonian for Obama   June 13th, 2008 11:33 am ET

Why is this really news? Isn't it a given that she'll vote for her father? Clearly it's an attempt at bringing in new younger voters. This is McCain's attempt.

Obama's attempt at bringing in new younger voters is have college rallys, speak at college graduations, encouraging internet fund raising, discuss economic issues and education funding, etc.

Kids my age are dying in Iraq, coming home paralyzed, injured, wheelchair bounded, with Post Traumatic Disorders, and that's touching the surface–by the thousands, yet, McCain thinks it's all fine and staying this failed course is a good thing. That's sad.

Please vote Obama so real significant change can happen. Isn't 8 years of incompetent Bush enough?

Helen, NY   June 13th, 2008 11:33 am ET

At least Father's day brought some sense in you. Grow up.
There are jokers like Barack there who is folling people with his big mouth and anti-smear campagin. He has nothing to talk about. None of us are going to vote for Obama. he does not deserve it. Vote John McCain.

Chris K   June 13th, 2008 11:31 am ET

She is switching her affiliation simply because the vulture media would use it against Mc Cain – his own daughter not being a member of his party. Do you really think the switch is real?

His family shows you how left wing he really is. Conservatives should be very afraid of what this means to you. Who is going to represent your Christian values? At least Mr. Obama goes to church. Who is stronger on helping the environment which God gave us? Clearly that is Obama. Who is more open to dialogue, world peace, and prosperity for all? Not John McCain. He believes in force first.

Take a good look America and ask yourself who represents your values the most. Remember the Reagan Democrats? Well, its time for the Obama Republicans to stand up.

And McCain is not an upstanding man of moral integrity! The only reason why Meghan even exists is because his 1st wife was disfigured in a car accident while he was away as a POW, and when he returned, he didn't like that she wasn't the beauty queen she was before he left! He ran around on her for 6 years, divorced her, and married Cindy one whole month later! Does that sound like integrity to you? He's slime!!!

What a man of character.

I wonder if his first wife and children from that marriage feel the same way?

The amazing thing about Sen. McCain is how he believes he knows what is best for America regarding Iraq. Unfortunately a significant majority of Americans don't agree with him. He just doesn't think "it is important."

Sorry, John IT IS IMPORTANT!

I can't believe some of these mean spirited comments directed at public figures and their families.

Effective leader of our country, hmm. McCain has always endorsed Bush's policies and I find it strange he was never put on Bush's ticket as V.P., not once but two times. What's up with that, when McCain's platform is that he is best for national security. It's apparent that Bush thought different, not once but twice. Something is totally wrong with that picture. McCain's a "throw back" from the Bush administration.

And, if she was as "nice" as you claim she is, why did it take her until her father was the Republican Nominee for President to become a Republican? LOL, I guess this is the FIRST time she is proud of her father…

Billy, what country are you going to go back to once Obama is President? England?

Cici diAngelo   June 13th, 2008 11:11 am ET

This is good: take a stand. When I first started out to vote and be interested in politics, I registered as an Independent. After I studied the party platforms and history of both parties, I found the republican platform fits more in line with historic American independent thinking and I became a republican, like so many of us have. The democrat party platform is very liberal, anti-Christian, anything goes, take away from one and give to an undeserving other person. All bad, democrats. Study up on what your party really stands for; it is very close to socialism and moving further away from good old American independence. The democrat party is run by Big Government interests; that means democrats believe Americans can't run their own lives as well as the party bosses can. Pooh!

Obama is the most dangerous man who has ever run for president. God help us if he wins. This man is on an ego trip and tells you anything you want to hear to get elected. He is such a phony and his supporters just can't see it.
McCAIN 08

Wen   June 13th, 2008 11:09 am ET

A gift indeed – the only person McSame has brought to the GOP – from Meghan McSame. That won't help McSame. Americans are wise people. It will landslide for Obama. I will consider McSame very lucky if he carries Arizona.

By the way Meghan, is there no bigger earing out there?

LS   June 13th, 2008 11:08 am ET

Who cares??

Kenneth M   June 13th, 2008 11:08 am ET

Silly Billie from Fla. Its ok if you dont have anything bright to say. You can opt out of commenting. That would be better then saying something stupid just to be seen on the blog.

Rob - WA   June 13th, 2008 11:07 am ET

Man she is hot.

Evoli   June 13th, 2008 11:07 am ET

There was no need for the vile comments from you Obama supporters. This is a father/daughter story. You Obama supporters are scary. What has happened to the last 3 generations of our children. John McCain is a fine honorable man. Lets leave it at that.

jp/michigan   June 13th, 2008 11:06 am ET

Well, I left the democratic party and became a independent. Obama was the nominee of the pundits, elder DNC, Howard Dean and super delegates. This woman believes in a one person-one vote system, which the Democratic party does not.

Tony C.   June 13th, 2008 11:06 am ET

And this is news how??????????????????????????????

BEEN THERE   June 13th, 2008 11:05 am ET

Of course she would do this, wouldn't any daughter or son ?. The question is : Who cares ?. And, why is this news ?

No McCain   June 13th, 2008 11:01 am ET

Len in Washington   June 13th, 2008 10:57 am ET

I know you guys might think this is a good "personal interest story" but come on CNN. This is NOT newsworthy.

You go Hillary   June 13th, 2008 10:56 am ET

"If I can't vote for Hillary then it's McCain, since he know what is best for women."

If that's isn't scary enough then I don't know what is.

By the way, was McCain around long enough to vote for women's right to vote? If so could someone look it up and see how he voted?

Capt. Smash, Salt Lake City, Utah   June 13th, 2008 10:54 am ET

Ok now I feel better, this makes me warm and fuzzy all over!

Obama 08/12

Billy from Fl   June 13th, 2008 10:54 am ET

It is refreshing to see that one of the canidates has a nice family.

The Clintons and the McCains can be very proud of their children.

Obama's children are not old enough to judge yet, but if they are
anything like their mother, someone will have to make sure they
never speak in public.

Elizabeth   June 13th, 2008 10:54 am ET

Her father isn't gonna win anyway.

Just say no to a Bush third term.

Independent for Obama   June 13th, 2008 10:54 am ET

What a great gift! (sarcasm). At least McCain has registered one new voter for the Republicans.

Damian   June 13th, 2008 10:53 am ET

Greg, NY   June 13th, 2008 10:52 am ET

News: McCain was for privatized social security before he was against it!

McCain last night: "But I'm not for quote privatizing Social Security, I never have been, I never will be."

McCain in 2004: "Without privatization, I don't see how you can possibly, over time, make sure that young Americans are able to receive Social Security benefits."
