Rep. Boren said earlier this week he will not be formally endorsing Obama.
Rep. Boren said earlier this week he will not be formally endorsing Obama.

(CNN) – This year’s presidential campaign has been one pitting family members against one another.

Now, former Oklahoma Sen. David Boren is on opposite sides of his son, Oklahoma Rep. Dan Boren, who announced earlier this week that he will not endorse Barack Obama for president. The younger Boren's reasoning is that his district is very conservative and he doesn’t agree with many of the Democratic nominee's positions.

Listen to Sen. Boren's comments to Roland Martin

The elder Boren, now president of the University of Oklahoma and a staunch supporter of Obama, said Friday on my radio program "The Roland S. Martin Show on WVON-AM in Chicago" that he’s “puzzled by his son’s announcement.

"We’ve grown up in a family where we were taught to think for ourselves, but I have to say I’m puzzled about how much thinking he put into that before he said it," Boren said. "I think he’ll probably be saying some other things."

“He did say he was going to vote for Barack Obama. He just made the puzzling statement he wasn’t gong to endorse him. Well, when you say publicly you’re voting for somebody I think that means you’re supporting them.”

The father later added: “We all learn from things and my hope is will be a learning experience for him because, as I say, this isn’t a matter of politics, this is a matter of the future of our country.”

Not sure what everyone's beef is here. The Clinton supporters have been asked, plead with, to put away their personal distaste, distrust and disdain for the inexperienced, racist, liberal Obama. Because we are loyal Dempcrats, who understand the importance of electing a Democrat to the White House, we are willing to force ourselves to vote for the man. But, that isn't enough? Do we all also have to walk around with that blank adoring stare that the Obominations have? I DO NOT ENDORSE Barack Obama. I probably will follow my party, like the sheep I am, and vote for him.

Still Living in Fear-Don't you think??   June 13th, 2008 10:54 pm ET

Let's face it. Many American born Caucasians in this country are and always will have some prejudice against any one "not" white to rule them, PERIOD!!! Let alone someone who is part 'Colored' or " Black ' or African American" or 'Negro'. In their mental mind set, it is totally unacceptable and not a part of their make up and they refuse to change for anybody or any party!!!!. As one of their ladies said she will never accept Obama no matter what!!. They have inherited the curse of their forefathers and it runs deeply within their souls, as long as any of the older generations are still alive. And some of them may have poisoned even this generation of their children to that white supremacist mentality. This is very sad but true and these people are not believers of any of " faith" except " White Power". This is a multicultural nation but not when it comes to the Presidency. They would rather have a revoution and fight each other then live in peace under a "mulato colored person". Scared of a negro getting too much power?

KW   June 13th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

His son has BACKBONE. He is doing what HE thinks is right instead of being a sheep like the rest are. Like a pack of lemmings they will all run off the side of the cliff.

Voice of Reason: Because there is a difference between an endorsement. An endorsement is tacit approval of the candidate and agreeing they should be the President. Holding his nose and voting for Obama is not the same thing at all. Clearly you can't see the "subtle" difference.

Yeah annie, I wouldn't vote for a "Muslim" with a "baby mama" either for president!

Mary OK   June 13th, 2008 9:56 pm ET

The problem with Obama is not that he lacks experience, His perfomance is vague and vacuous as respects the experience he has. Do you know anything impressive that he did as a lawyer, a teacher, a community organizer? Are you aware of his high level of absentee ism in the US Senate - even in his first year? Didn't he write his second book as a US Senator. His career has been a series of temporary and part time jobs. He has excelled in promoting himself, selling books, and running for higher office. I think I read that Clare McCaskill is interested in the vice presidency. Hasn't this freshman Senator spent her first two years traveling as part of Obama's team? I have voted Demoractic in every Presidential election that I have ever voted for, but I can not respect Obama and at least this on high profile member of his team. I think Obama takes more than he givesHe is a great speaker, but I am disturbed at how little committment he has shown in every job he ever had. Why would I expect him to behave differently in the next job he lands. In that respect, I would expect him to be too much like George Bush. Lackluster in his career and basically disintersted as President.

Obama/Hillary   June 13th, 2008 9:56 pm ET

A vote for Barack Obama is a vote for Hillary Clinton because they support the same cause. A vote for John McCain is a vote for a George Bush third terms more wars, bad economy and more country will not want to deal with our country. If you were really a true Hillary supporter who wants a better America for this generation and future generation, you must vote democratic this November. Please do yourself a good favor and vote for the democratic nominee this comming November. No hard feeling because Hillary has none against Barack. We must put the republican out of the white house. As you can see, we are in a recession and that will get worse with a third term with the republican.
Keating 5, John McCain took money from keating for political favor.

Yes let's hope he does come around. i wished he hadn't made the statement the other day, it seems somewhat suspicious almost as if he was not wanting to come to terms with the fact that he has to take a stance sometimes even if it costs him a few votes, he needs to set the example for his people and that takes courage.

Edith   June 13th, 2008 9:48 pm ET

Why is everyone whining about the way Obama got the nomination. If Hillary had got it, it would be the same thing in reverse. Let's just come to our senses. And to those who endorsed McCain, just have the courage to admit you wanted to vote for him all along because that decision makes no sense. It's these kinds of decisions out of childish feelings that have cost our country so much over the years.

KE   June 13th, 2008 9:47 pm ET

The government has disconnected itself from the people. A head grew out of its own head telling other parts of the body “you are not important” disrespecting the fact that those other parts of the body enhances the brain.

People are puzzled, and meanwhile the American votes have been stripped off and the delegates have been stripped off and the nomination has been stripped off and the Democratic Party has been stripped and the media has been stripped off, and the American people have been asked to shut up. And we are still hearing more crazy stuff…

People in the political world have played so many sides and now they are in the one big tangled web.

A lot if hate coming out in this election. I thank this country is showing it's true color. I wonder what the bad people in the Middle East think of all this. Vote, Endorse, Support who you want ,but remember this war, Your's and mines, son's and daughter's, will be fighting. WE together at the gas pumps paying 10.00 a gallon. Are you adults or a snot-nosed high schoolers? You say that you are voting for McCain and you make that statement as a lucid person or are you heavily medicated one? Your candidate lost. Now grow the phuck up and let's get this country moving ahead. You will not make that contribution in that regard by supporting McCain and if stop pouting you'd see that. I have a five year old that won't have SS, will have to pay $250K to go to college, and will have to live in a world where we'll be the world's much hated USA if we don't get things back on track after the Bush disaster. Barak Obama and Hillary Clinton have almost identical positions on all the major issues. McCain is the exact opposite. I hope those Democrates who supported Hillary Clinton will show that support by doing as she asked, elect Obama so that the Democratic platform
can become reality. Please don't fall for the lies about Obama who is a Christian, who took his oath of office on the Bible. Not voting means
more years of Republican misgovernment.

Wow, since when has it become "puzzling to do the job that you were elected for. He was elected by the will of the people in the district and he is heeding to the wishes of the people. It has little to do with political motivation but rather doing his job description.

Politicians are not elected to advance their own personal beliefs, but the beliefs that their constituents express. If they want to advance their own, personal opinions they should become a wealthy businessman.

The Democrats are finally seeing who they really elected in 2006. Yes, they elected many new Democrats that unseated powerful GOPers, but they only succeeded because the Democrat that was elected was so conservative it was hard for the Goper to be seen as different(hence Rick Santorum and Bob Casey(both are prolife and agree on other issues, yet one is a Democrat and one is Republican)). The socalled victory in 2006, really only served to place right-leaning Democrats.

"Well, Dad, I plan on voting for the man, because I'm a good Democrat, even though I don't like him as my candidate. Tell Mom I love her."

There are many of the 18 million Clinton supporters who feel exactly this way. They will vote for him but they really don't like their candidate.

mendemoi   June 13th, 2008 9:23 pm ET

The son is smarter than the dad, that's all. He knows that Obama does not deserve to be the presumptive nominee. He knows that Obama has too many problems that the Republicans are going to take advantage of to eliminate him in November. He knows that Obama's presumptive nomination was forced and crookedly acquired. He knows that Obama cannot win against McCain. He knows that Obama was forced down the throats of Democrats by the big wigs like Kennedy, Kerry, Reid, Pelosi, Deen etc. He knows that Obama was illegally given 5 delegates that should have belonged to Hillary. He knows that Obama was given delegates when he was not even a contestant in Michigan…THE SON IS THE TRUE DEMOCRAT, NOT AN AUTOCRAT

Lu   June 13th, 2008 9:22 pm ET

He's no fool. I decided to become a PUMA (blog.pumapac.org) because I want a decent Democratic Candidate to vote for in the Presidential Election. I cannot vote for Barack Obama because of his behaviors towards American Voters.

Much of the initial momentum of his campaign came from black voters. However, when he needed the white male support to discount the Florida and Michigan votes and get the Superdelagates commitment, he turned his back on his minister of 20 years (who helped put him in office). Instead of using that situation to promote respect for diversity and inclusion, he threw Reverend Wright under the bus. That is not a good leader for this country.

His betrayal of Reverend Wright got him the support he needed to promote sexism to undermine a more qualified candidate. Then he gained final margins with a “party unity” pitch.

Superdelegate Gender Distribution

Obama — Male 327, Female 156
Clinton — Male 132, Female 125
Undecided — Male 55, Female 26

He obtained his nomination through deceit, manipulation and the exploitation of bigotry. I believe he is a flaming hypocrite and his clean politics campaign is totally bogus.

Who has been fooled again?

Concerned Citizen of America   June 13th, 2008 9:22 pm ET

Everyone has one vote. Let's just see how this all plays out. All this sour grapes over Obama winning fair and square is silly. He was beat up in the press just as bad if not worse than Hillary..It's part of the process of running for office and all candidates are aware of this. If you are a Dem and don't want to vote Obama, fine. Hillary would be disappointed but she will get over it. Just spend your time working for Sen McCain and donate money to him rather than crying on a blog about it. I do suspect that many supposed Hillary supporters crying on this blog are the hold overs to Rush's operation chaos.. As they say, ignorance is bliss.

OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT   June 13th, 2008 9:17 pm ET

So He Is Voting For Obama But Not Going To Endorse Him? Thats Like Having Toilet Paper And Choosing Not To Wipe!

Zeppelin79   June 13th, 2008 9:17 pm ET

I supported Hillary for far longer then I should have. Her behaivior towards the end of this primary season was atrocious. I heard she was trying to use any legal manuevering she could think up to steal this nomination.

I was afraid that Obama was to inexperienced, to green, that he was all fluff and cotton candy as you say. But I've heard he's getting the cream of the crop economists and his ideas about how to get out of Iraq seem about right from what I've read in New Republic magazine.

One thing I've found out about presidents is doesn't so much matter who they are but who they surround themselves with. FDR was like that. Many of them are "great pretenders," including the best. I think he could do a good job and it's about time to make history.

Actually, that was one of the reasons I supported Hillary for so long.

Anyway, about the "bitter" comments, I think you guys are taking him out of context.

And as one of the 18 million million people that voted for Hillary Rodham Clinton I could care less about the "bitter" comments.

And about gay's not following "god's law" and going to hell for being who they are. I could never worship or believe in a god that would say or do such a thing.

I don't blame him. Hillary Clinton had over 18 million people vote for her nd yet she still does not win the nomintion. I urge all Clinton supporters to vote John McCain in November and Hillary Clinton in 2012. It not about party or polices so much as it is about who is best to lead this country. President Bush, like him or not, is a great President. He stick to his covictions and principles, whether they be right, wrong, popular, or unpopular. He does what he think is right and that is what makes a great leader.

Lara   June 13th, 2008 9:05 pm ET

I don't understand why these people think he was selected. He ran a good campaign and he won it by doing all the right things. Most of his ideas and Hillary's on how to run this country were close. She even said so herself. There were just a few things that were different. Hillary wasn't anti gay so don't even use that excuse. If you don't want to vote for him don't use the excuses I see above because it is quite clear why you don't want to vote for him and it has nothing to do with his policies.

Dick Blocker   June 13th, 2008 9:04 pm ET

People who say that Barack Obama doesn't have any experience are minimizing the truth, and quaintly forgetting the freshness of John F. Kennedy and Bobby Kennedy, who were in the same position and whom the world so adored and were ready to exalt.

I think it is safe to say that too many people are just not ready for a black president and the real problem is that they're just too dishonest to admit it, and the will unfortunately fabricate straw men for themselves to fixate and obsess on regarding the "why I won't vote for him" nonsense.

Shame.

Why does everyone have to endorse Obama. Nearly half of Democrats did not support him. And for many good reasons. Its okay to not endorse or even like Obama. It does not make you a racist or heathen. What more, it is the legions of people voting for what many call a novelty that has me more worried. I will take the more experienced candidate, not Obama. Write in Hillary on your November Ballot!

I think that Mr Boren is toning things down as some of the smear tactics out there are getting amazingly out of hand.
I know you guys believe in free speech but seriously this smear stuff demeans your country. One of the things that hopefully will change with a Democrat White House and Legislature. Republican Nightmare. Hence the smear factor and people pretending to be what they are not/ As well as comments made as rumours of things that are not even true.

Scott in Texas   June 13th, 2008 8:31 pm ET

I, too, will not be voting for Obama. Unlike the Congressman, though, I happen to be a left-of-center, openly-gay man under the age of 35. I defy the pundits who claim that younger, well-educated, higher-income people support Obama over Clinton. I am disgusted with the anti-democratic Democratic primary process that gave a greater delegate advantage to the winner of the Idaho caucuses than to the winner of the Ohio primary! I am disgusted with the Texas county convention that I attended as a Clinton delegate, where the Obama-run county party changed the date of the convention in violation of state party rules and abused the system by making it run for 23 HOURS and repeatedly delaying the ability of the delegates to cast their vote. In short, if I vote for Obama I am saying that Bush's theft of the election in 2000 was okay. And I will NOT say that! After all, Obama received Michigan delegates that were based on votes not cast for him and received more delegates from Nevada and Texas despite losing both contests! Bush, by contrast, "only" stole his win by judicial edict. 'Nough said: McCain will win and the country will proceed to its miserable and inevitable demise.

PA Hick Chick   June 13th, 2008 8:26 pm ET

Just like Will Bower, some people don't stand up for the values they espoused - because a man (whose father was black) is the leader. Like the people of West Virginia, or some women or some bigots, they act only in their own self-interest and not in the public interest.
Bigots, radical feminists, racists and those of limited education or literacy did indee seem to favour Clinton. Those who were educated, well-read and who followed the debates supported Obama and put him over the top. Fortunately the ignorant and uninformed did not prevail within the DNC.

Iowa took notice of a once in a lifetime leader, someone who this country of CYNICS desperartely needed and craved, and the rest of the party came on board. It wasn't until HRC and her race baiting did people take their eyes off of his power on american politics and resort back to the fears of the unknown and the shallow so-called qualifications that a president should possess. There is more to life than resumes and experience. Someone with the power to inspire Democrats and Republicans to lay down their differences and join together is nothing to ignore.

So Indiana Bob you and your wife will miss out on history and a chance to live in an American where we act as Americans should.

1/2 white 1/2 black 100% american we salute you president Obama our Commander in Chief

Dave   June 13th, 2008 8:12 pm ET

Wow, you sure have a lot of "experts" in America. Whey aren't some of them running for President? Obama is the only choice for president unless you want to continue on with the war in Iraq, maybe Iran and possibly other places. It is time for America to get on course. McCain is too old and he is losing it fast. Do the right thing and elect Obama.

Mike   June 13th, 2008 8:11 pm ET

His individual vote has nothing to do with representing his constituency. Hey Pop, revert back to the old days and straighten his head out.

Kevin   June 13th, 2008 8:10 pm ET

Obama supporters behave like the characters from the film 'Invasion Of The Body Snatchers' . They just cannot accept that someone could have a different view from them and that their leader is not perfect, even though all the evidence suggests otherwise.

Donna   June 13th, 2008 8:09 pm ET

I couldn't agree more with Indiana Bob. I can't believe I will be voting for a Republican in November, but that's what I shall do if Obama is the Democratic nominee. I have written the DNC over the way the nominee is selected. It makes no difference what the public wants, it's who the powerful leaders of the DNC decide they want. I was angered at the WV superdelegates who endorsed Obama after the primary clearly showed the WV voters wanted Clinton. A super delegate in KY endorsed Obama before KY voters even had a chance to vote in the primary. We need to change our primary system and have all states vote the same day, just like in the general election. Do away with caucuses and super delegates and let the vote of the people choose the nominee. Isn't this the way democracy works?

Chris Lee   June 13th, 2008 8:09 pm ET

We are all immigrants. Go back far enough and no one sprang originally from North America. I understand that the first homo sapiens were in Africa. That means we are all descendents of Africans. Skin color determined by climate. The hotter the climate, the darker the skin.
The colder the lighter.
(Nobody is white; only different shades of beige)
Kinda puts things into perspective, no?

Kate   June 13th, 2008 8:07 pm ET

Why does the father find this puzzling? He said he raised his son to think for himself. Now that same son is asking his constituency to think for themselves. He's not saying "don't vote Obama" He's saying "don't let me tell you who to vote for, figure it out yourselves"

Kathy   June 13th, 2008 8:07 pm ET

Join the crowd along with millions of us who do support Obama—this is news–let's get real. Just because the DNC chose to anoint this ill-qualified community organizer —does not mean the rest of us will come aboard—anyway his ship will sink come Nov. Titanic 2 and this time the DNC party members will have no life jackets to keep them afloat. As a supporter of the party most my adult life—though no longer one—I have seen this type of travesty happen time and time again. No one from the party emerges as a centralist democrat–with the exception of Bill Clinton—don't they realize far-right liberal views are no longer the main stream?–I guess they are just too stupid to realize this. So I have switched my affiliation to independent, and either vote for McCain, or not vote at all.

I'm wondering what "rammed down our throats" mean. Go ahead vote for McCaine simply because you feel just a little scorned. Tax cuts for the rich, 4 more years of Bush, and more dead U.S. soldiers is certainly a great trade off because you feel a candidate was rammed down your throat. Get real and stop making the issue about yourself. LOOK AT THE BIGGER PICTURE!

Justice League   June 13th, 2008 7:56 pm ET

That's actually a nice little loophole isn't it. You don't have to endorse someone to vote for them. However, he shouldn't have spilled the beans and told everyone who he was going to vote for. But, is he wants to waive his privacy on this matter, fine. Except his constituents now know who he is voting for. So Brooklyn, to counter your argument, yes it is puzzling. Both points contradict each other, although that is his individual right.

iluvindianabob   June 13th, 2008 7:55 pm ET

HerbTee   June 13th, 2008 7:53 pm ET

So, the good Congressman won't endorse Obama, but publicly announces he's going to VOTE for Obama. Does that make any sense? Perhaps it makes sense only to Okies. In his defense, I suppose Congressman Boren has no choice since his district is likely inhabited by Redman-chewing, Carling Black Label beer swilling, Caterpillar cap-wearing, shotgun-toting, duck hunting, trailer park-dwelling Okie rednecks. Too bad the good Congressman does not have the gonads to do what's right and support his Party's nominee.

Since his constituents are such fine upstanding citizens of the conservative right, perhaps Congressman Boren should simply become a Republican because he only appears to be a Democrat in name only.

Francis Wilson   June 13th, 2008 7:53 pm ET

No politician knows for sure which way the wind is blowing, maybe Boren the younger listened to the whisperings of the Clintons and their surrogates. Maybe he's afraid that Obama is going to get crushed in the general election, and then, like Obama's vote on the war, he can use his stand alone policy to say that, 'well, I may have voted for the guy, but I didn't endorse him." Unfortunately for Boren the younger, Obama is going to win in a landslide and he's going to have to eat his decision. However, unlike the entitled Clintons, Obama won't have a 'list' of people who didn't support him, Obama will figure out how to work with Boren the younger for change.

Shannon Shiflett   June 13th, 2008 7:40 pm ET

What sickens me, and it's not that our nominee is "inexperienced" (in Washington's culture of corruption, we need somebody who isn't the norm), it's that the Democratic Party didn't impeach Bush/Cheney, didn't put an end to the occupation of Iraq, and so on–those so-called Democrats who refuse to vote for Obama are either sore Clinton supporters, racist, or just really ignorant of what's at stake in this election — only our entire future! You would sacrifice this nation out of spite? How undeveloped.

Voice of Reason   June 13th, 2008 7:34 pm ET

An endorsement is a public announcement to support someone. He does not want to publically support someone who his constituency has spoken to not support. However, privately, he will still vote for him. I'll buy that reasoning. He's just respecting the will of his constituency.

Mike, Syracuse, NY   June 13th, 2008 7:26 pm ET

He's following the will of the voters. Isn't that his job?

Sharp, 9/11 happened just 8 months after Bush took office. That didn't happen without years of set-up and planning. Who do you think was asleep at the switch while the whole thing was planned? Your Democratic bud Clinton. It's documented that he missed at least one solid chance to take out Bin Laden. Now Obama actually wants to talk to these murderers.

LINDA B   June 13th, 2008 7:26 pm ET

From 2 OK Democrats with higher degrees, upper middle income & raging liberals by OK standards:
Boren's failure to endorse is CORRECT - he is allowed to vote Democratic in the general election. Many of Clinton's supporters, including myself, were angry the rest of the OK delegates decided to support Obama in contradiction with the almost 2-1 vote received by Clinton vs. Obama. I understand the younger Boren's position.
For the Obama supporters - just because he won the Democratic party nomination does not mean we HAVE to vote for or support him. Neither I nor my husband will support or vote for Obama - reasons are too numerous. Shoving this arrogant, self-serving candidate down our throats will not serve to change our opinion.

Kim, Dallas, TX   June 13th, 2008 7:25 pm ET

Craig of Salisbury, I ditto your every remark….except one correction…..

I am one of the 18 MILLION plus that looks forward to voting for Obama. I don't know why the press never mentions that the popular vote was nearly tied or could have gone either way depending on which measurement was used, and why Obama is viewed as liberal. He is no more liberal than Clinton was and certainly represents the typical Democrat. Those that argue otherwise I find as more biased due to race.

Also, one comment after reading one of these blogs regarding homosexuals. I believe that as a true Christian we are not to judge others. God is the ultimate judge of a person's character. Jesus' was one who showed his love for people of all walks of life, even prostitution. He never judged, always accepted. I don't believe in how every person leads their life, but I have learned through Christianity to not judge and to love my neighbor. Democrats don't create homosexuals, but we understand how to treat them if we were raised as a Christian.

Well, I find it "puzzling" that the elder Boren would endorse Obama. He is an empty suit who has zero experience or qualifications to be president. His only life experience is in the elite environment of Ivy League schools and in the dirty politics in Chicago yet he tries to tell us that based on his "post-racial" background and his "judgement" he is the best person to lead the last superpower in the world?? I don't think he is even qualified to be CEO of a major company yet the American people are supposed to elect him Commander- in- Chief? His judgement is some of the worst I have ever seen. He goes to a church for 20 years that has a preacher that spouts racist and anti-American statements and the congregation cheers. He is "friends" with a terrorist who planted bombs in a woman's bathroom and killed innocent people. He buys a house with the help of Rezko, one of the dirtiest of the dirty in Chicago politics. Yet we are supposed to believe he has the right judgement to lead this country? Even though he is inexperience and not qualified? I am a lifelong Democrat who will be voting Republican for the first time this year. McCain is a man of great personal integrity and honor. I will be proud to vote for a man who obviously loves this country and what it stands for.

He does not have the experience that led us to the war that we went in without calculating the consiquences.

He does not have the experience that brought our econmy to shambles.

He does not have the experience that has made us the laughing stock of the world.

He dose not have the experience that has made the dollar a mere colored paper around the world.

He does not have the experience that has made other world leaders shun America.

He does not have the experience that sold our country to lobbyists.

Yes President Obama, you don't have these experiences and that is why we desperately need you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Obama's Policies are not "like" Hillary's - they ARE Hillary's! He has done nothing to get where he is - absurd adulation and reverse racism at its finest. Vivienne - The reason he is called liberal is because of HOW he voted on various measures - you know - for those few times where he actually chose a side rather than voting "present". I am with Indiana Bob - I didn't leave the DNC either - it left me. I think it is highly likely that Obama will win this election - but it certainly won't be with my vote. (I know - I know - you Obama fanatics don't need us…). And stop ripping Boren for sying he will vote for Obama but not endorse him - isn't that what you people keep trying to shove down our throats? Vote for Obama or you aren't a Democrat? - Well, he is voting for his party - I will vote in the best interests of this country. McCain 08

It is very unfortunate, that some people say they belong to the democratic party for so many years but are now planning to vote the other side come November. What is the problem? Why do some people blame the press and others for a victory which Obama earned and deserved? He worked hard and his campaign did everything for the victory. Those wolves in sheep clothing had better leave the party now before it is too late. True democrats know and respect democratic principles and these people will give their true votes to our party`s nominee Barack Obama.

Long our DNC.

Tommy Hussein in St. Louis   June 13th, 2008 7:10 pm ET

I really couldn't care less what David Boren thinks. Here is Missouri, Reps. Carnahan and Clay, and Sen. McCaskill, don't seem to have this problem even though they represent a pretty conservative state as well. In any case, I don't think Obama particularly needs his endorsement, since he is from a state that McCain will likely win anyway. Other than saying that, I don't think there is any need to badmouth him, and I'm optimistic that most of Obama's detractors will realize they were wrong about him in the future. Call me Pollyanna.

Since I didn't get a chance to respond in the other article about McCain saying the candidates wives should be respected, I just want to say I agree. I'm perfectly happy leaving Cindy McCain and Michelle Obama out of this. Whatever their bad habits and character flaws may be, I doubt that it would have any bearing on their husbands' ability to be an effective president. I think we should be fair to them as well as the candidates themselves, keeping in mind that it is very difficult and stressful to live your life in a fish bowl, and they will make mistakes sometimes.

Craig of Salisbury   June 13th, 2008 7:09 pm ET

At least Rep. Boren has the presence of mind and the political fortitude to speak in polite and respectful terms about what motivates him regarding the level of support he will give to the democratic candidate. It simply may not be politically wise to declare openly that he endorses Sen. Obama, so instead, he tones down the rhetoric by saying simply that he will vote for him.

On a different note, Sen. Obama may be perceived as lacking experience; that he is an"empty suit"; that he is ultra liberal and a socialist; that he doesn't understand the basic tenets of capitalism–however, I contend, with very good reason, using each of the aforementioned complaints as evidence, that what you are really saying is wrong with Sen. Obama is that he believes differently than each of you do. I have no objection to that. In fact, I am very pleased that Sen. Obama DOES believe differently. This is precisely what will lead to his election (selection by the people!) as our next president.

I am one of millions of citizens that look forward to saying: President Obama.

sharp   June 13th, 2008 7:09 pm ET

I live in Boren's district and he has just lost my vote. Noticed one of the comments saying the democrats have had the senate for the last 2 years and the economy has tanked, just wonder if they think that just happened over night, could have been the GOP blowing the big bucks when they were in charge, don't you think?

annie   June 13th, 2008 7:09 pm ET

Why would anyone support an inexperience, unqualified, selected candidate of the dnc who cannot even show respect to the flag, who gave the bird to his opponent, who is going to raise our taxes thru the roof, who thinks 18 mil Americans are bitter, Bible thumping, gun totin', uneducated idiots, WHY would anyone support him?

stoltz61   June 13th, 2008 7:08 pm ET

CALI DUDE   June 13th, 2008 7:07 pm ET

I can somewhat sympathise with the younger Boren..

Barack Obama is without a doubt an easier candidate to vote for than Mc Cane. However, as I think Boren does; I too will have to hold my nose and vote for Oama.
WHY?

He has two major Faults fo rme:

1.) He is Too Liberal on Gays. This goes against my Religious beliefs. You cannot disobey God in the name of Liberal Thinking.
Being homosexual is against God, period; end of discussion and shall forever be against God. There is nothing we can ever say or legislate to change God's Supreme Rule and order.
Obama claims to be a Christian, but he must not be a True Christian. He questions God.
God has already spoken on this. And you are either with God or against God. There is no Liberal Zone in Gods Kingdom and there Certainly is no second guessing allowed. No matter how unfair or harsh it may seem, we must accept Gods rules or ultimately pay the consequence. All I can tell you is that NO Homosexual will ever receive eternal life.

2.) Too Liberal on Immigration. This Goes against my Patriotism and
a deep respect for Veterans. What did they Die for if Our Borders and American Citizenship are not kept Sacred.?
To give someone a "special pathway" to acheive what our Veterans died defending is to desecrate their souls and graves.
If Our Citizenship is worthless or cheap; why did so many give their life or limbs to protect and defend America..?

Reward Invaders on our Prescious and Sacred ground ,,,just because they've been here desecrating our slain and disabled Veterans? Or because they are now here and its convienient to let them stay?

NEVER..!!
And if you ever lost a family member or had a family lose an arm, leg, an eye, etc.. you know exactly why I say NEVER..!!!

We will Deport every Illegal If it Takes 100 years or More.!

The inepexrienced guy beated the most "vetted" brand in american politics with a revolutionary model of campaign management and you still doubt his hability. What else does he need to do to prove is worth? Turn white? I mean all he does is talk but Mccain can't even do that right. He thinks Putin is president of Germany. One thing for sure you haven't learned anything from the shorsightedness of that previous administration. But "eh" as a Canadian i can keep enjoying the parity of our dollar with yours that Cheney's & Bush great management exeperience has bought your country.

JAZZ   June 13th, 2008 7:05 pm ET

It's called ambivalence. It's the self described "blank creen" thing. You're just not sure who he is and what change he will be bringing.
The thrill is gone. Reality is setting in….

texsara   June 13th, 2008 7:05 pm ET

I can't vote for Obama.
However, I am a Boren and an American and a life-long Democrat and whatever Dan thinks he has to do is ok…I understand. My daddy's family were from OK. They are wonderful people. Salt of the earth as they say. Boren's are beautiful. I'm so proud of him for winning his seat in congress.

Taa Taa   June 13th, 2008 7:05 pm ET

To Indiana Bob and all of you airheads who commented about him not voting for Senator Obama, it's very obvious you did not read the context of the story.. Boren said he IS going to vote for Obama, he's simply not going to endorse him for fear of losing his seat. You air heads. Read the context next time..

Grover Syck   June 13th, 2008 7:04 pm ET

juniors actons would be grounds to disinherit him.

On the "mid west sends a message" You complain about him being too young, what about Kennedy, he was about the same age, and was one of the best presidents we have had.

I agree with former Oklahoma Sen. David Boren, this is about the future of our country. If McCain wins, we have no future.

George   June 13th, 2008 7:04 pm ET

"his district is very conservative", explains why. He has allowed his narrow self-interest to override the national interest. Such people do not get far in politics! He is finished!

today   June 13th, 2008 7:03 pm ET

I understand his feelings,i was democrat to but now for Mccain.

carlo   June 13th, 2008 7:02 pm ET

It's really sad that some of you "Hillary supporters" are now supporting McCain, when he represents NOTHING that Hillary supports. BTW, for those of you who posted celebrations about Russert's death because he gave Hillary a hard time are lower than low, and have no shame. Every life is precious in God's eyes, and should be in ours, even if they offend.

Something wrong in this forum.

Must be lot of McShame supporters acting as 'former supporters of Sen Clinton'

Better take things with a grain of salt!

Democrats UNITE!

They got the country to the brim of disaster. Lot of things to be done to bring it back to a respectful place again!

Be serious my country men, it is our country….we cant anymore afford to let some psycos rule her again.

Wake up democrats, your infighting is not going to help. ENOUGH!

Let us take charge! We have to….and we must for the sake of our children and this country's future!

ENOUGH!

Tracy   June 13th, 2008 6:59 pm ET

I really don't care where she is.. I think she is somewhere trying to dig up dirt on Senator Obama and his wife. I just don't trust her. Not one bit. I want to trust her so bad. I want to believer her, but she has lied so much and has been so negative. I hope she just goes back to her Senate job and try again maybe in 2016…. She'll be hard to look at at that age, but if we can stand to look at Mccain, we can stand to look at her…

John Smith   June 13th, 2008 6:58 pm ET

This mentality goes to show the "educational and emotional" levels of the Hillary voters. I would like to respect "all" fellow DEMS, but this level of responsibility leaves me in total shock!

peakarach,des moines,IA   June 13th, 2008 6:57 pm ET

I THINK ALL 18 MILLION OF US STRONG MUST UNITE AND JOIN MCCAIN CAMPAIGN NOW. WE MUST HELP MCCAIN TO DEFEAT BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA,DNC,SUPERDELEGATE AND THE WHOLE LEFT WING MEDIA IN THE FALL AND KEEP HUSSEIN OBAMA AND HIS THUG OUT OF THE WHITE HOUSE FOR GOOD.

puzzled little man!, no backbone to stand up, if you're not going to endorse him, then why in the sam heck would you vote for him. Typical politician, unable to take a firm stand on something as important as this year's election.

Glad you're not in my district, at least my Senators and Reps have the guts to say what they feel, even if I disagree with them, I give them respect for it.

JPM   June 13th, 2008 6:55 pm ET

He's trying to save himself.

If you respect the constitution, you can't vote McCain. McCain believes its okay to walk all over the constitution.

Carmen in Fresno   June 13th, 2008 6:55 pm ET

Let's see…..Does Dan Boren want to be reelected? Do his constituents believe they have the divine right to determine how their neighbors make love and plan their families? Do they believe that global warming is a myth and what is good for big business is good for America? Do they believe that dark skinned people are put on earth to serve them? Do they - and Dan Boren - believe that the question really is: "Ask not what you can do for your country, but what your country can do for you?"

California Voter   June 13th, 2008 6:55 pm ET

Not endorsing Obama is puzeling? Not really. There are many of us who supported Hillary that do not support or will not support Obama. Although I believe Obama is an excellent speaker and smart, I do not think he is experienced enough to be President nor does he represent my values. He and his wife sat for 20 years at a black liberation church where the pastor preached hatred and racism. Even Oprah had to leave because of the Rev. Wright's sermons. I'm concerned about having a person as President who lacks the judgment, honesty and core values that are needed in someone leading leading this country. I don't even want to think about seeing Michelle and her angry about America face nor do I support someone who supported a church that has a "non-negotiable commitment to Africa" This is the US, not Africa.

Alice   June 13th, 2008 6:54 pm ET

Sounds like he is just avoiding taking a stand for political reasons. He's afraid his conservative district won't vote for him next term.

We have the Democratic candidate we all deserve. We are a nation with a 15 second attention span and an addiction to the newest, flashiest thing, Obama is all style and no substance. He has not done one significant thing in his life except run for President. I will not vote for McCain and I cannot in good conscience vote for Obama unless something happens soon to convince me otherwise.
