Newsman Tim Russert dies at 58

(CNN) - Tim Russert, who became one of America's leading political journalists as the host of NBC's "Meet the Press," died Friday, according to the network. He was 58.

He collapsed and died at work, according to the network. He had just returned from a family vacation in Italy to celebrate the graduation of his son, Luke, from Boston College.

Russert joined the network in 1984 and quickly established himself as the face of the network's political coverage

    My thoughts are prayers are with his family. I watched MTP on a regular basis and will miss his frame of mind. Sundays will never be the same.....

    I absolutely loved this guy, he was one of the best commentators
    on tv, the most honest, and the most fair. A pleasure to listen to.
    The world suffered a great loss today.

    This is a very sad day ... Mr. Russert was a remarkable man and he will be missed by millions of viewers around the world. His shoes will not be easy to fill.

    This saddens me. This election cycle, I've become a news junkie and Tim Russert was one of my favorites. Always politically astute and a gentleman. No one knew Washington like you.

    With all the right wing commentors on cable news nowadays, he was a breath of fresh air. He will be missed.

    Tim Russert was an amazing journalists who asked the hard questions with style and grace. He made sure that they were answered and knew how to get the job done. I started taping his shows just to make sure that I could watch. The world and this nation has lost a powerful voice that made people answer.
