Where does McCain get his science advice? I think it must be from watching Al Gore's movie over and over and by watching reruns of Mr. Wizard! 1. Glolbal warming theory is about to be discredited almost completely. 2. The US does not have a clue how much the Potential Reserve of the offshore and AWAR regions are. 3. The Energy Crisis in the US is immediate and severe. 4. The US needs all of the proposed solutions and needs them now: a) increased fuel mileage standards. b) land use policy for wind and solar infrastructure. c) nuclear d) drilling as a reserve delineation strategy for strategic reserve. e) geothermal and legislation to provide it and its infrastructure affordably. f) national infrastructure plan for rail transport and "hub and spoke" transportation systems. Get real folks, the US is in deep trouble and BOTH McCain and the Dems are re-arranging the deck chairs of the Titanic...over and over! It's been Groundhog Day since the end of the Carter term. The US "cheap energy" strategy has worked well enough till now, but unless the US wants to be at war throughout the world ad nausea, to ensure supply, it's gotta change now! Remember the ad? "pay me now or pay me later", well its "later" and its time to pay!!

I really can't believe all you knee-jerk, liberal Obama-backers. I guess most of you don't realize that as we sit here and read this blog that China, under the auspices of Cuba is drilling oil not 60 miles of the Florida coast.
It's happening around the Gulf of Mexico and the Carribean, it's just other countries that are making the money. They're drilling the oil and selling it to us. That makes a helluva lot of sense, huh? The oil is still being harvested, and we could probably be more environmentally responsible in the process than most other countries will even try to be.
Obama is nowhere nearly politically astute enough to be the Commander-in-Chief of this great country. And for those idiots out there who continually equate McCain to Bush, inform yourselves, there is no comparison.
If Obama is elected, America will become a second-rate power, with higher taxes and no respect in the rest of the world.

I am a Democrat that favors offshore drilling. Not enough to support McCain, of course. I just understand that while it makes sense to curtail our consumption, we also need to increase our supply. This will give the best chance to keep prices down long enough for alternative sources to be found.

We've basically consumed millions of years of oil production in 200 years.

It's interesting to note the 60-30 split in the current CNN poll on McCain's proposal. The higher percentage backs him. The states decide, and if the majority want to deny energy exploration on their coast, they will. I know Alaska's Governor Sarah Palin wants it, and she's a very popular governor there, so the people will likely support it. I'm for it in the right places. Just like wind farms. I'm for them in the right places. As for SUV, motor home and monster pickup drivers, if any of those people are against this proposal, they need to ask themselves why they need to take their guzzlers to suck up the gas at foreign owned watering holes. We need to provide for our own and we need to give up the Suburbans, Hummers, and Dodge Ram pickups.

Have you seen the ads that say we have enough oil in this country to run our homes for another 60 years. That sounds great, but what then? We have known for years that the oil was running out. Why have we not done anything about it? One reason that the cost of gas has gone up is the demand for oil in places like China have dramaticly increased. The global demand has increased dramaticly. I do not want to ruin my inviroment any more than it is all ready ruined. We are not thought of very highly by other countries. why do you think that is. And, almost any other country you go to has higher taxes than us already. We really need to start being the inovators.

We have the technology to change the climate for the better. Why are we not using it? All this talk about how we cannot change the climate dynamic because then our marketplace will crash is retarded. Our economy is dying already, our nation is nearly 10 trillion dollars in debt, no nation that can afford them wants to buy our products, we are hated by every regime on the surface of the planet, countries are only our friends if they NEED us, not because they like us. Switching to near 100% alternative energy is completely obtainable, the only real reason we have not done it is because alternative energy is a decentralized solution, meaning that if R&D were committed and more solar panels were being produced, the price for a domestic household to supply all the electricity from solar and wind would less than the sum of your current annual electricity bill.

To BILL who is harping on Obama's being the 2nd Carter term.

Carter negotiated the release of Iranian Hostages and brought them home unharmed unlike Bush who was responsible for thousands of American deaths with his illegal Iraq war. Reagan was undeservedly credited for the hostage release because they returned on the day of his inagural.

Carter also negotiated peace between Israel and Egypt again no bloodshed.

As someone else remarked in this forum, I would take Carter's 2nd term to Bush's 3rd term any day.

Carter was trying for how long to get the hostages released and it did not happen until after the election and Reagan won. Carter did send troop in to get the hostages and it failed. The was bloodshed. In fact there were a few troop left behind while Carter was in office. Do you remember that.

There was no blood spilled b/t Israel and Egypt? What timeframe are you using to say this b/c there was. I could then say the same that Reagan ended the cold war without any blood shed.

I started pointing to the 2nd Carter term when I saw the 3rd Bush term. Are they wrong or is it just when people have a different view that it is.

What about Obama meeting with enemies directly and "without precondition?"

I'd like to see McCain use these ads in the South and Mid-Western States and see the reaction of people there.

The real problem with McCain is that he is a chameleon, and the national corporate media lets him get away with twisting his message to suit the crowd.

JOHN McCAIN is NOT A LEADER.

He IS a SERIAL PANDERER.

Anyone who looks at McCain and his positions knows that he has no core values, that he twists his message to fit whatever group he calls "my friends".

He's _WORSE_ than George W Bush; at least Bush doesn't _PANDER_.

McCain is a fake conservative, and a fake moderate, too.

Just watching recent news reports and statements made show that McCain is ignorant of what needs to be done to restore fiscal responsibility and rule of law. This supposed bulwark of national defense credentials cannot even tell Sunni from Shia without help.

At least in those ways, he's just like George W Bush.

Voting for Bob Barr, writing in Ron Paul or even voting for Barack Obama seem like real honest choices, compared to the weak leadership McCain offers for real conservatives.

The polls reflect that most people in this country see an empty suit when they look at John McCain.

It's no wonder the Republicans are in panic mode.

Actually there was damage to the oil rigges off the cost of Louisiana. That is why there was an oil shortage after wards. The Drilling was damaged and the refinery plants were also damaged. Gas prices went up after katrina.

If he is really going to tout his "greenness," then he wouldn't be making this proposal that we open up some locations for drilling for oil. There would be proposal that we all put solar panels on our houses as well as several billion dollars each into different cellosic ethanol, increaces in fuel efficiency standards for all vehicles, fusion power, better use and refinement of spent nuclear fuel into usable fuel among other things. To say that he is the "greener" candidate is suspect from the get go.
