I haven't seen one thing positive about Michelle Obama. From her thesis tirade to her remarks about being proud of our country only since her husband ran for Pres. To her cutting down remarks about Hillary not being able to take care of her own house, reference to Bill's problem. What's positive about her. If he REALLY wants to win in Nov. he needs to put a BIG MUZZLE on her. You can really tell that she may have been the one to pick their church in the past. Her views seem to show that way.

Michelle is arrogant just like her husband and always looks like she just lost the Miss Popularity Contest. McCain's wife looks and acts dignified and positive. I dislike McCain and would never vote for him, but knowing that Michelle Obama might just be the next first lady, oh god help us. What a disaster it will be. Why is the media intent on now tearing apart the wives of both of the candidates and providing forums like this for ignorant or unnecessary comments about them? It just fuels negativity when we should be focusing on the differences between the candidates. CNN has three tickers about the candidates wives today and there is a new war battle raging in Afghanistan for security of that country. We need to get our priorities straight. Less blogging and hearing yourself think and more public call to action from our policy makers and news providers.

Ms. McCain's behavior is that of a Barbie Doll who steal recipes and then blame it on the staff. Earlier in the year Ms. McCain responded to Michelle Obama's statement, which was misquoted, by saying "I have always been proud of my country..." Of course you have, Ms. McCain, why wouldn't you? When you have a silver spoon stuck down your throat throughout your life,when you steal another woman's husband without retribution to the first wife, Carol McCain, and only getting a slap on the wrist for stealing drugs, I guess you always would be proud to be an American. Michelle Obama was misquoted and most intelligent people know that. She is an articulate, bright, modern wife and mother that has a different skin color; Lets be real... that is the only reason why she isbeing targeted in the media. She worked her way through two of the best colleges in the world with out having handouts from rich parents; If the roles were reverse, absolutely NO ONE would have made a big deal out of Michelle Obama's misquoted statement. Let's be true to ourselves. Our country cannot continue to be haters! We are so judged negatively from around the world. Come on people, let's be fair!

The main sticking point for me in the battle of the first lady is that Michelle Obama is willing and ready to take on the first lady responisibilities. Cindy McCain has stated that she does not plan on leaving her position with beer manufacture. I believe that Michelle Obama is as dedicated to the position of First Lady as her husband is to President. The most negative thing that I have heard regarding the McCains is that when John McCain was returning from war McCain left his wife due to her being in a car accident while he was gone and becoming disfigured. To make a promise to be there for sickness and in health and not stay committed to that vow, it makes me question his committment to the USA, will he want to stick around if our reputation becomes disfigured?

Yes! Yes! until she starts speaking. How in the world can we determine who this Cindy woman really is when all she does is stand by her man? I think we would all have positive opinions about any woman who does that. I think we should encourage our women to be strong and out spoken regardless of where they are or who they are. We talk about equal pay and equal opportunities for women all the time so why the complaints? We can't eat our cake and have it. This is not a beauty contest. We need our women to step up and I admire any woman who does that including Hillary and Michelle.

My opinion: Cindy McCain keeps her mouth shut, so nobody knows what she thinks. No chance to "smear" her if she doesn't say anything. And, quite honestly, not many people seem to know of her past indiscretions. Michelle has spoken her mind, and some of her words have been twisted around to portray her as a racist.

This whole thing is sad. As others have mentioned, we're not electing a First Lady.

So you cite statistics that demonstrate that "54 percent of Republicans surveyed hold a favorable view of John McCain’s wife, while 65 percent of Democrats have a positive view of Barack Obama’s wife."

Maybe I'm naive, but doesn't this mean Michelle Obama is viewed more favorably than Cindy McCain?

Cindy McCain is extremely lucky nobody's talking about the years she spent stealing from her non-profit while she was a drug addict. Interesting how a fabricated video about Michelle Obama gets more coverage than the fact that Cindy McCain has a history of painkiller abuse and theft.

Michelle Obama, on the other hand, is as impressive and accomplished a first lady as Hillary Clinton was.

A couple of quick things: (1) This is a pretty lame survey; (2) It's made lamer by false advertising. If one reads the article, it is clear that the respondents were judging the media's coverage of Mrs. Obama as less favorable, while Mrs. Obama is viewed much more favorably by her constituents than Mrs. McCain. The headline might read: DESPITE GREATER MEDIA NEGATIVITY, MICHELLE OBAMA MORE POPULAR THAN CINDY MCCAIN.

Nor have I heard Michelle Obama do either of these things. I HAVE heard lies about her saying "whitey" in a speech and listened to the speeech where she is supposed to have said it and it doesn't even make sense in the sentence. I have heard her say she is roud of her country for the first time and saw that twisted all out of shape to make her seem un patriotic but again I listened to the ENTIRE speech and saw what she was saying not just a line taken out of context. I have even read a response from the man who reviewed her thesis, that is used to say she is racist, and he stated that in no way was the thesis racist but that she did say somethings that were taken out of context and by doing so could appear racist. you see what your problem, and most of those who say the same crap, is that you automatically believe any lie that seems to give you reasons to remain a closet racist bigot. It is called rationalising a flawed conception. Do some real research and open your mind to reality and you will find that Michelle Obama is neither unAmerican or racist, but then I do not expect you to do that you ahve already made your opinion and will not let facts and reality interfere with it.

This is a very misleading headline and article, CNN need to stop trying to bring attention to the articles with misleading headlines. It should say "Michelle is being demonized more by the GOP and the Media that Cindy is". The article clearly states that the "COVERAGE" presents Cindy more favorable, not people's actual opinion. All these false racial slur allegations and comments taken out of context shows the GOP still do not want to focus on the real issues. Michelle is true American, and her life story is a great American story to tell. Why isn't the media focusing on that? Cindy McCain is pretty much a Paris Hilton, good for the camera (She doesn't even look attractive in my opinion). And what about her drug abuse issues, why isn't the media talking about that? This just shows how biased Media CoVERAGE has become.

It states that people perceive media coverage of Michelle Obama as more negative than that of Cindy McCain. Copy editors: your headlines are usually all people read, and your header has the effect of furthering the negative coverage of Michelle Obama (both actual and perceived).
