Each president recites the following oath, in accordance with Article II, Section I of the U.S. Constitution: "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

Enough said.

Thank you, Mr. Obama, for bringing sanity to Washington.

McCain, you are really sad. Your whole campain is showing signs of desperation. You are old and you need to go home and sit and rest.
You and Cindy could easily be Barack and Michelle's grand-parents, you are old enough. So just take it easy, you got me feeling sorry for you and I really don't like you!

Wait, are they seriously criticizing the idea that we should follow the Constitution? That it doesn't apply after Sept. 11, and to want basic rights like due process is a "September 10th mindset"?

That's an unbelievably stupid case to make.

Positive stories about McCain...are there any? I haven't heard of him really doing ANYTHING lately, except having barbecues, counting the days since Obama's last visit to Iraq (only he knows why that's so important), and trying to figure out how to make friends online. He could have been doing things like helping make sandbags in the midwest, developing ideas for alternative energy production instead of taking the easy way out, and taking steps to improve foreign relations...oh but I guess those tasks are too tedious and presidential for McCain. He really is at a time in his life where he should be taking things slow. Maybe we all misunderstood his mumbling and he really meant to start RETIREMENT not run for PRESIDENT. That would explain so much...

I would normally agree with the terrorist being judge by a millitary tribunal. But being a NYer at the time of each WTC attack, both under Rudy's watch, I have to question the position of the republicans.

First of all, Rudy is a snake.

Second, Obama seems to have faith in the American justice system and I cant argue with that. Seems a bit risky, but that quote from Rudy does sum up the way I feel about it.

Finally, the republicans have used the constitution as toilet paper for the last 8 yrs so I wont be taking any moral lessons from them

What McCain camp haven't yet realized or knew but refused to acknowledge is the fact that Obama is a consitutional lawyer. I believe he knows what he's talking about when he stated how he planned to handle the terrorists in his regime within the constrainsts of the American constitution . I can't say the same for McCain or for those defending him.

So let me get this straight, McCain wants to prosecute terrorists OUTSIDE the confines of the Constitution?

In other words, McSenile is willing to BREAK THE LAW.

Well, just another in a long line of flip-flops. This time he is admitting he would do a CRIMINAL act to prosecute terrorists. I hope Obama gives a retort that smashes this moron.

PEOPLE...we all know that the end is not justification of the means. To accomplish the "end" goal of eating, which we must all do, does not justify the "means" of stealing food. We all want Americans to be free from the threat of terrorist attack, especially in America, but there's a right way to insure that "end" and there's a wrong way. The "means" by which McCain and most republicans suggest going about this comman goal are wrong.

We all know how hardand terrible 9/11 was on our nation, but you can't throw our basic prinicipals out the window because of it. That's what the terrorist's want, America and Americans to break down. Obama's judgement on that issue has been on the money since day one. McCain can't figure out what to do. You show strength by not letting your enemies munipulate your beliefs.

It's too bad when you have someone running for RPesident and arguing that the country needs to take actions outside of the Constitution. I'm not sure that EVEN George W. Bush has gone so far as to say this! He had more tact than that. He just DID it and let people try to decide if it was outside of the Constitution or the Geneva Convetions or whatever. McCain is telling us what he WILL do UPFRONT... violating the Constitution is in his plan!!! Violating the Conventions is in his PLAN! HOW could ANYBODY elect this gymnastic flip-flopper as President????????

Kelby from Houston - great post. You are exactly right. If what the terrorists want is to destroy our government and cause us to abandon our principles, we are handing it to them. They have already succeeded in causing us to voluntarily toss aside the Constitution. How can we even be having this discussion? How can we consider electing someone for president who supports the current administration in ignoring our foundational principles? I would prefer the Constitutional Law professor determining our policy rather than someone who promotes a total disregard for the principles we will ask him to swear to protect and defend. This is crazy.

CNN needs a special ticker just to keep track of whatever is McCain's position on something on a given day, or hour.

In all my years, I've never seen a candidate flip-flop as much as McCain; Romney doesn't hold a candle to him and he was bad enough.

If this McCain nominated Republican campaign is not the worst run one of all time, then in the words of Tommy Lee Jones, "It will have to do until that campaign gets here."

I am a Democrat through and through, but in all honesty I feel sorry for the Republicans, but McCain is not even giving his party a chance to win the election. This is getting just down right sad.

Fred Thompson's character on Law and Order was pretty good about abiding by the Constitution, but I'm surprised he didn't learn a thing or two after being on the show for so long.

All the Republicans are trying to do is pick apart Obama bit by bit because they realize no decent citizen trusts their own party nowadays. So instead of trying to make themselves look better, they point the finger at Obama (and his wife, who I really think would make a great first lady) just because he's actually quite popular. I knew the Republicans were childish, but this has sunk down to pre-school level maturity.

Hey Johnny McCain, the Constitution was made for a reason.

I voted for Bush in 2004, but I'm proud to say I'm throwing my support 150% behind Obama this year.

being a prisoner of war himself, one would think that McCain would want there to be some discorse in regards to prisoners of war we hold. It's isn't fair to hold someone for years on end without them knowing what they are charged of.

And yet PUMA members still support McCain.

And incidentally, PUMA members claim to be supporters of Hillary Clinton, yet they've switched their support to a man who's said of Hillary:

"I was very glad to meet the dummy, named 'Hillary,'" McCain said to laughter after a tour of the school. "Is that the name?" while looking at a nursing school's training mannequin, and made this joke about Hillary's daughter:

“Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly? Because Janet Reno is her father.”

These comments, among many others, are far worse than anything Obama has ever said about Hillary. So even if we ignore the glaring policy differences between McCain and Hillary, there's still no good reason for PUMA folks to throw their support behind McCain.

Talk about wishy washy-One article up this lady is proclaiming "Spouses should be off limits" and next article here this chick is attacking the spouse of the candidate.
Can you say "Hypocritical, Two Faced, Tax Fraud First Lady Speaks Out"?

Obama is very weak on foreign policy and really doesn't have a clue. There is no denying that fact. If you put a mouse up against a lion the lion comes out on top. By the way Obama is not the lion.
