Former Clinton-backing union endorses Obama

Sen. Obama met with union leaders Thursday.
Sen. Obama met with union leaders Thursday.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees – a 1.4 million-member union that backed Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primary – endorsed Barack Obama for president Thursday.

“AFSCME will mobilize more members and invest more resources than ever before to help Senator Obama win the White House,” AFSCME President Gerald McEntee said in a statement. “We will turn out an army of 40,000 AFSCME activists to knock on doors, make phones calls and talk with their co-workers and neighbors to produce an unprecedented turnout in the 2008 election.”

The backing of the nation’s largest public service sector union comes in the midst of a series of meetings in Washington this week between Obama and major labor leaders.

I just saw McCain driving the Straight Talk Express through my neighborhood. Weird thing is that he kept making U-turns. He said something about demonstrating his policies...

Is there anyone on this entire planet that would expect a frigging union to do anything different?
Unions would back Bill Ayers the terrorist before they would cross party lines. Unions controll democraps, they cannot controll Republicans.
    Wake Up America!

    Wonderful
It appears Barack will need all the help he can get to fight the McCain lies. Just an hour ago McCain called Obama a LIAR saying the conversation about public finance never took place. Now...it did take place but is was a discussion and not a negotiation. Get real McCain.
Thanks for supporting Barack and truth AFSCME!

I was a Hillary supporter and still am. I am not voting this election because I don't think ether canidate can do the job. Good thing he has more backers because he won't get my vote.
The media is saying women are coming behind Obama is another ploy to get women to change their minds. Not the women I talked to.
    Go Hillary!!!!

God bless you unioneers, you rock! I agree with you TheTruthHurts, although I have not really heard much Hillary bashing in the last few weeks so I'm not sure what some of the posters are talking about. I hope all will go well between Obama and Hillary supporters, God bless all Hillary supporters.

Any union worker should vote for Obama.

Republicans are anti union, but the union people are the only ones today that can take care of their family with one parent working (member of a union), dont even believe this stupid libretarion clap-trap. That is why we are in the position we are, de-regullation.

I can't believe that there are actually people criticizing Obama for having a union endorse them. Like Joe Six... A union endorsement is not lobbyist money and doesn't require any IOU's. You're an idiot.
