The banned button asked: If Obama is president . . . will we still call it The White House?

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) – The Texas Republican Party is telling a vendor who sold campaign buttons it considers racist at a state convention over the weekend that he's no longer welcome.

The head of the Texas GOP says they will "neither tolerate nor profit from bigotry."

The buttons asked, "If Obama is president … will we still call it The White House?" Jonathan Alcox says he was trying to be funny, and based the button on a political cartoon. He describes
himself as an independent who may vote for Obama.

But the Texas Republican Party doesn't see the joke. Besides banning Alcox from its future conventions, it's alerting the Republican National Convention about him. And officials say the $1,500 vendor's fee he paid to sell at the state convention is being donated to Midwest flood victims.

So what is the answer to the question?

Brendan H., San Antonio, TX   June 19th, 2008 11:47 am ET

Karl Rove immediately contacted Alcox and offered him a job.

By the way, where's the outrage from the GOP over the Obama bumper stickers making the rounds here in San Antonio that show the picture of Barack in the turban while visiting Somalia, where his name is shown under the photo as Barack Hussein Obama, and naturaly the word "Hussein" is 4 times larger than Barack Obama?!?!

Country of idiots. The double standard in PC humor does not escape others. If its the other direction nothing gets done or even mentioned. The media are worse than Nazis, they are Orwellian Stalinists who do not defend free speech, only speech they deem free.Condem the seller all you want, but the media should have defended the RIGHT not the item. Which is WHY your darling Obama WILL lose come fall. People see right through Y O U CNN.

Heh, for once I am proud of my state's GOP for sending the right message and doing the right thing. I hope this example is followed in other states that this kind of stuff, however subtle, can't be tolerated in this election.

Start with yourselves and only then, can the country move in a new direction.

The White House was dubbed "the White House" after the War of 1812. The British burned the then "Presidential Palace" and it became a charred gray color. The house was repainted white, and has been called the "White House" ever since.

I'm proud of the history of the White House. It by no means indicates the color of the president, thank God. I hope some day we will have black, brown, yellow, and all the colors of the rainbow for our presidents. Not to mention FEMALES.

God Bless America.

BrooklynZoo   June 19th, 2008 11:45 am ET

Anyone who says sexism and racism are equal is mistaken. For years, it was acceptable for black people to be lynched (not just hanged, but tortured, burned alive, mutilated, all sometimes in front of adoring crowds.)

The sexism women face today (Clinton certainly did) is nothing like racism. Get over yourselves.

MINORITIES UNITE!
America the land where all men are created equal especialy if they are white! We are the great melting pot but the minorities are at the bottom of the pot.
What is wrong with a latino, chinese, japanese, indian, korean, mexican, and a whole lot of other minorities becoming president of the United States? If they were born here and are excelent Americans, why can't any person of any race be our president?
Vote for Obama!! Don't let this oppertunity slip away. This could be the first step toward making all citizens equal even if they are not white!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kimberly   June 19th, 2008 11:45 am ET

This is the sick humor of the Republican Party. They are racist and hateful. They are always talking about values. Is this what they call values? Wake up America they are trying to turn the clock back. We democrates need to take a stand against this type of bigotry. We are better than that. The Republican party is shaking their heads now. They simply can't believe that a Black/Biracial man has gotten this far and they will stop at nothing to try to destroy him. They will lose in the end. OBAMA will win and the "White House" will finally be for everyone. Blacks, Whites, Latino's, Asians, Gay and Straight. We are all one America.

Robert in Toronto,ON   June 19th, 2008 11:45 am ET

CNN, this story broke on Huffington Post nearly 3 days ago. The only time you're mentioning it is once the Texas GOP has made an apology.

YET you were very quick to deliver the head scarf story from the Obama rally in Michigan.

Even you want to report evenly how about some of the recent scandals that John McCain faces. I don't see those stories out (ie calling his wife a derogatory word in public, his comments about Hilary)

Venus   June 19th, 2008 11:45 am ET

Good job GOP! You just never know when a black will run for president with their party. If so, then what!

I missed the joke! Let's see… the white house built by slaves would change colors if Obama is president printed on a botton with black back-ground with white words(?)

That's not a joke! That's trying to spread fear!

What I do find funny is a lot of these "David Dukes" - are OK. watching and rooting for blacks for football, baseball and basketball!

I am stunned that someone could be so blunt and racist…..but then again since no one knows who you are I guess you can get away with it. But just so you know I for one am BLACK and I am highly offended. What makes us different from you other than the color of our skin. Is the white race so priviledged until no one can make good decisions but the good old white folks? Well guess what….do your research there are plenty of counties, cities, states, and countries doing quite well under BLACK leadership………….

NoPlaceLikeHome   June 19th, 2008 11:44 am ET

In response to David, er Raymond Dukes' comment.

I don't know a single city or country in the world that has thrived and prospered under their leadership.

Check out my home town Wichita KS. Largest city in KS has a black Mayor, chief of police, fire chief, municipal judge, and we are doing just fine.

Gabrielle, Lancaster SC   June 19th, 2008 11:44 am ET

Wow…Raymond Duke…you sir are quite ignorant. There have been many successful black leaders. Its sad that in 2008, their is still this air of blacks being inferior. Your comment proves this ridiculous mentality. What is it about a person's skin that would determine whether or not he will be a capable leader?

I'll answer that question. Absolutely nothing. It is all about the individual. How dare you question his ability to lead based upon his skin color?

Nicole in NE   June 19th, 2008 11:44 am ET

Chad - the Obama camp apologized for those actions. It was some campaign volunteers that did that.

Then they also sent out other pictures of people in Muslim dress from other events before that to show that is ABSOLUTLEY not the policy or sentiment of Barack himself.

Has Bush apologized for the wrongs he has done? That's done wonders for our country so far!

Educate yourself - thanks!

Well Said!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How about America's House? Nah, White House is fine, it is white.

Bill   June 19th, 2008 11:44 am ET

More proof that Obama has changed the political landscape — the Republicans are finally realizing you CAN run a campaign on the higher road and people of both parties appreciate it.

We have two impressive men running for president — let's hope they both realize they don't have to play to the lowest common denominator in order to get votes.

ted   June 19th, 2008 11:43 am ET

What about Obama kicking the two mulim women out of the his rally yesterday because they look "too controversial" Obama's more racist than mccain. The white house joke isnt funny though and its good to ban this stuff from polical events BUT is this newsworthy in the least bit. If McCain wore the button it would be ok but average people do stupid racist things all of the time - do we need to report on it.

prk   June 19th, 2008 11:43 am ET

Texas   June 19th, 2008 11:42 am ET

Ignorance at it's best here in the cnn comment section.

Last I checked. The White House was white. It's name is not derived from the fact that we have currently only had white presidents. The White House houses many offices, and those offices are held by a multitude of diversity.

Try living in reality America, just for a bit. Make your decisions based on reality and not on hopes and dreams of a wonderland of unicorns and strawberry jam.

The reality is that we are at war. Obama knows nothing of war.
The reality is we need to be more self sufficient. Obama wants a long term fix, but the reality is that we need help in the short term as well.
The reality is that we need action. Obama only knows words.
The reality is the now. You should prepare for the future with great aspirations; but you can only reach those by accepting reality.
The here and now.
The reality is that Michelle Obama had only helped the causes of Black Americans, not all Americans. The reality is that Cindy McCain is not a mere housewife but a brilliant business woman who supports many charities that affect all of the American people.

Spend some time learning and researching and not relying solely on a biased news media. Each news stationed is biased, it doesn't matter which side they are on, they have a side. Take some time to learn the facts on your own.

Donna   June 19th, 2008 11:42 am ET

Good, the country is finally turning a corner. NO ONE should profit from bigotry. Senator Obama is a fine man who is trying to do the right thing. Do not let people who are trying to do the wrong thing succeed.

Kudos to the Texas Republican Party for doing the right thing.

Elizabeth, minnesota   June 19th, 2008 11:42 am ET

I was horrified until I read that he meant it as a joke and is an independent who may actually vote for Obama.

The "joke" part is actually a good, biting bit of sarcasm since EVERY president has been WHITE… it's a play on words with the color of the house, color of every other president, and this new groundbreaking campaign.

That said, it is always better to err on the side of NO JOKES than bad or complex jokes. I'm impressed the GOP is doing this since they have a lot of insane right wingers going off the deep end in ways that are a lot more insulting than this button.

ginger   June 19th, 2008 11:41 am ET

The GOP has gone into the toilet since bush came along, sucking up to the right wingers. Now we see mccain has no backbone to make them stop this obvious racial slur, lest they pitch a fit and support someone like Huckabee or Barr.

And he wonders why moderate republicans like myself have left the party….

scott in austin   June 19th, 2008 11:41 am ET

It's not often that i have a reason to applaud the RNC, but I'm glad they are at least appearing to be taking a hard line against racism in this election. It shouldn't be an issue and I think they're realizing that it's in their best interest and I think the best interest of the country if it doesn't become a bigger issue.

brett   June 19th, 2008 11:41 am ET

I'm voting for Obama and still don't see the big deal here. While the joke wasn't particularly clever or funny it still has every right to be expressed. By the same token, the GOP has every right to reprimand supporters whose messages they deem inconsistent with the platforms of the GOP. This little scandal is a non-issue born of the fact that November is still 5 months away.

Irene Walls, public money means tax payer money funded by the government. It doesn't mean the public making private donations. So he didn't turn down donations, he turned down government funding, so he CAN keep funding his campaign through donors. Public Funding (Tax payer $$) only limits you to $84Mil, whereas Obama can raise 100's of millions through private donations.

McCain will now decline it too for sure, but he will be getting most of his $$ from Lobbyst, Political Action Committees (PAC), Corporates, and fundraisers like the one in TX that made a joke of women getting raped.

AMERICA….you have 1 more change to vote to fix our nation from the last 8 yrs damage. You keep voting for the same, then don't while the next 4 years when your jobs are outsourced, Gas is $8-$10/gal, no help with tuition, no help for our troops to attend college after all their sacrifice, increased global warming since McCain will certainly not restrict the emission from the major corporates that are funding his campaign.

Joe the Troll   June 19th, 2008 11:38 am ET

"I don't like the joke, but now the GOP is not adhearing to the constituion giving us the right to freedom of expression."

You need to do some reading, Myron - that doesn't apply here. The GOP is a private organization with the right to choose or deny vendors, which I'm certain is in the contract. It's so tiresome to hear every miscreant who's told to shut up and go home bring up free speech as if they had been spouting actual political ideas, which is what the Constitution actually protects. The part that offends me is that they didn't return the money to HIM. They took it and donated it so they could get the PR points. Sounds like theft to me.

Oh, and Chad, I already read about that right here on CNN. Try opening your eyes. I have to wonder what a circus the Republican Pundit Knobs of America would be kicking up today had those women been on TV. Instead, since they weren't, Republicans will try to paint him as being prejudiced against Muslims while using "Muslim" as a smear against him. Pathetic.

We have seen McCain embrace people who tell a women lay there and take it refering to them being RAPE and then turnaround a take his money.. That shows what important to him.

I wish I could add to that, Ray. I really think just letting it stand out of context like this will give others a good view into the mind of our Mr. Jonathan Alcox.
When Obama is president you still won't see. He will always be a racist to you because of your projectional philosophy.

s   June 19th, 2008 11:35 am ET

Those who say the Obamas hate White people are silly, how can Obama hate himself and his relatives. The man is half white, and when Michelle married into his family she was saying she accepts everything he is, and everything that made him the man he is today. Those who say Michelle hate white people are those who must hate others, she is a positive role model for any women to follow. She has more substance than Cindy McCain who was born with a silver spoon in her mouth. I don't think there is a woman who she can speak to that could be connected to her, or she who she truly.

Sean   June 19th, 2008 11:35 am ET

True color is about to come out. This is only the start for people of both party to show their bigotry and hatred side. Win or lose, Obama will show the true side of the USA. It is amazing to me to see t this kind of racist act that people support here in AMerica. Seem like to me we need to clean our own act (house) before we can tell somebody in an another country how to treat people. America, we had better get our act together or the MAN upstair is going to do it for us. And I don't think we are ready for that to happen.

Dave   June 19th, 2008 11:34 am ET

To the person who said the GOP is restricting "freedom of expression"

-that only applies to the government and government entities…last time I checked a political party is a voluntary and private organization to join (not a requirement to run for public office). They can do whatever they want (such as…punish Michigan and Florida for moving their primaries, create rules allowing for superdelegates, ect.). It's the same reason why your company is allowed to say that you can be fired if you participate in certain activities. Please educate yourself on the Constitution before spewing garbage about 1st Amendment rights.

paul   June 19th, 2008 11:34 am ET

Brian, the house is WHITE, Hence THE WHITE HOUSE. It's an iconic building mimic the world over with imitation WHITE HOUSES used by several other governments.

Let's all cool our jets on race and look at the larger picture that includes race but not ONLY race. I am tired of it all.

Nikki   June 19th, 2008 11:34 am ET

Do you really think this guy is going to vote for Obama? LOL

So what   June 19th, 2008 11:33 am ET

The question I have is agin why is it ok for R&B stations to be able to make the same joke and thats ok. The minute a white person does it now we have a problem. Double Standard. I am a republican (will not vote McCain) and thought I would never vote for Hillery but after seeing the empty suit/racist that might fill the white House I want Hillery back

Robert   June 19th, 2008 11:33 am ET

Obama sells out his church and then he sells out the Muslim lady with the skarf . She was a supporter of his, Obama is like a Blind Dog in a meat house and just grabbing anything he can as he goes along, I feel he doesnt really stand for anything and selling his supporters out. The ones who are supporting him are obviously only doing it for favors, Myabe a few get out of prison cards……What ever happens I feel we are really going to be in trouble. …….They can promise you anything…….but its not that easy to keep a promise,,,,

I've read some comments for other articles on this CNN blog where some people say they don't want Obama and/or Michelle in "MY White House". Such comments seem racist to me. And if they're not being racist, they're just being absurd and either way instantly lose any validity to their comment(s). I'm white and being racist is the biggest ignorance a person can have.

Kim, Charlotte, NC   June 19th, 2008 11:31 am ET

Raymond Duke..I also wonder is you look as stupid as you sound. This Great country was bulit off the back bones of people of color.

Jonathon   June 19th, 2008 11:31 am ET

It is called the White House because of it's paint scheme. If you want to call it the Black House repaint it… I like Purple House the best espescially if the Dems do win it and turn America into a powerless nothing.

Tammy - KCMO   June 19th, 2008 11:31 am ET

Typical Republican strategy. Deny and repudiate after the damage has been done. No different than accepting $300k from the fundraiser put on by the TX oilman that says rape is okay and women should sit back and enjoy the ride.

Why anyone would want to vote a Republican back into office is beyond comprehension.

It's nice to see the GOP step up for a change to swat down racism. It's amazing that such blatant bigotry still exists in this country. One has to wonder what has happened in that person's life that they are OK with those kinds of words and way of being.

Clearly, its a joke - I'm sure if there was a sexist position on a buttom of having Hillary as president and having a man as first lady people would have cared less.

How can a country condemn racism and not sexism? This is obsurd.

Reginald Malone   June 19th, 2008 11:26 am ET

This country has made some progress about race over the last fifty years. However, racism raises its ugly head every so often. I believe the man knew exactly what he was doing. Perhaps one day certain citizens will be able to put racism aside and deal with humans as humans. Sen. Obama and his lovely wife `know full well that some Americans need to grow just a bit more. Maybe they'll get over after Obama serves eight years in the White House-not the Black House! The White House is an American landmark that will always be called the White House no matter who serves as President and first lady. The eyes of the world are watching us-so you racist out there must be on your best behavior!

Jose in NYC   June 19th, 2008 11:26 am ET

Isn't it sad that we can't joke about things in our country without it taking on harsh overtones because of the past injustices that have occured. Obama will help heal some of damage but there is still a lot of work to be done. And there are people out there that believe in those 'jokes' and make them reality.
Can't we all just get along!

Marcus Allen   June 19th, 2008 11:26 am ET

It's impossible. for inanimate objects to be so.
Arrangements of letters and words are not racists either.
Only PEOPLE can be racist.

Texas GOP: Thanks for doing the right thing. Banning this button-maker is one small step for the GOP. Looking forward to seeing larger progressive moves from the Repubs in the future! How about forcing the racists out of the party the way the Dems did in the 50s-60s (and we all know what party they went to!). Those trogolodytes should have no place in a major political party.

and the funny thing is   June 19th, 2008 11:26 am ET

People need to look up the definition of 'racist' and get a sense of humor. I'm voting for Obama — that button in no way "postulates a hierarchy among various human races or ethnic groups." Is it not a fact that only white people have been in the white house? Lighten up.

Mr Fix it (Sanford Florida)   June 19th, 2008 11:26 am ET

Anybody who thinks, beleives, ignores or whose brains and sense of humor do not realize that anything that may be perceived as bigotry and racist is to me a low life.

Excuses such as i thought it would be funny is clear indication of how incensitive many are still are about what might be perceived as racist.

I commend the Texas Republican Party for their decision. We are yet to see what the National Republican Party will do about racism and racist attack on its oponents at all levels of public office.

Texans welcome to the Obamouvement.

How can you be that stupid?

Seyi   June 19th, 2008 11:25 am ET

I find it amazing how the explanation for every bigotry statement that comes out from ignorant people is usually followed with either "it was a joke" or "that's not racist." You will look much smarter to just admit that you're downright racist instead of looking stupid trying to defend you ignorant thoughts. You could also try apologizing and try to meet other types of people to maybe change your destruptive perspective, and could find other things to joke on.

Good for them for banning him. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who will vote against their own and the nation's best interests, simply because they are afraid of having a half-Black man as president.

Very sad. It will be interesting to see how West Virginia votes in the General Election. A state which by all accounts *should* vote for Obama may not, simply because of a pervasive atmosphere of highly un-American cowardice.

Pat Long Island NY   June 19th, 2008 11:24 am ET

Its called a white house because its the color white… if they changed the name to be more PC I would go nuts… Like they did in our town and changed main street (was that way for 80 years to MLK street, why?)

Obama is the one who said he would take out the bowling ally and put in a BB court, so how is that not considered bad???

So I'll leave it again……..POST IT!!!!!!!!! DO SOMETHING GOOD IN YOUR LIFE FOR ONCE THIS YEAR.

Sexism is ignored…..racism is front page.

What about the Buttons, hats, shirts, stickers that say:

"Hillary should have married OJ instead" OR
"Iron My Shirt"

These things are acceptable. But not something that says ""If Obama is president … will we still call it The White House?"

So really, Hillary should have married OJ and should have had been murdered by her abusive husband???????????? And what if someone had a button that said "Pick my Cotton" rather than "Iron my Shirt"????????????????????? I bet it wouldn't be tolerated and the news media would have the OUTRAGE spread across every front page in America.

DOUBLE STANDARD???????

Post my comment CNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You erased it once. This is the kind of thing that is contributing to the anger of women across our Nation.

It is good that the Texas GOP is taking the moral high ground, gald someone is. It is sad to say when it comes to it, alot of people seem to over look Obama's past history with his church……..if the roles were reversed and it was a white man, there would be no discussion, it would be the end. Talk about race reversal……..morally Obama is not fit to be president because of his past, plain and simple.

Nina Dep Ponca   June 19th, 2008 11:22 am ET

Good move Texas-state GOP … America has tired of the Republican national Committee's historic coded racial appeals to white voters through commercials, commentary, talk radio etc.

Be mindful that any more "Willie Horton" type ads will hurt the GOP more than the Democrats. Bet it would be on You-Tube with a biting commentary contrasting it against that 1988 disgrace immediated. Hillary's 3 AM phone call ad didn't work for her. Americans are too smart to fall for that crap anymore.

I'd like to think it was morals & ethics behind the Texas GOP's action.

Alas, the cynic in me thinks it may simply be the ever increasing number of "Brown" voters in the state.

I don't know how I feel about this button. I mean it’s true that the White House has only had white presidents. It could be taken as a joke I guess???

While I prefer race to not be a factor in this campaign, the history being made by Obama being the first African American democratic nominee it can not be ignored. I think its something to be quite proud of.

I do think the Texas Republican Party could afford more than $1,500 to donate to flood victims though.

Ardis   June 19th, 2008 11:22 am ET

Oh yes, we must protect little bo from the mean world. It's ok for him to disparage Asian people for being short, "typical white people" for being white and most recently Muslim women for wearing their garb but the sane world can't make a joke. I thought GOP is racist.

Patrick - Oklahoma City   June 19th, 2008 11:20 am ET

To answer his question, yes, it will. Issue done.

That type of joke MIGHT (very big "might) be appropriate in a 3rd party forum designed for comedy (I'm a big fan of "anything goes" comedy, because it is some of the best social commentary there is), but not in one designed for politics and acting as the opposition to Obama. Simple bad taste, that's all. Good play by the Repubs on their decision to ban him and donate the money.

Robert   June 19th, 2008 11:20 am ET

What you people need to understand is people need to be able to express themselves, I was thinking of voting for Obama, but between this little escapde and him keeping the Muslim ladies from sitting by him that was supporting him shows me that Obama is not sincere, he is just filling in the paces as he goes, he has sold his church out and now the Muslims, This is not going to stand, What if he is elected? think about it…..Come off this crap, the American people are better than this and smarter….Talk to us like idiots and see what it gets you……

Dave in Houston   June 19th, 2008 11:20 am ET

They ban him days AFTER the convention ends. That is the typical, principled Republican stand!

Why didn't anyone say anything as soon as the racist and sexist (they also sold offensive anti-Hillary fare) appeared? That silence says a lot about "the base." By the way, do you know the Arabic translation of "the base:" Al-Qaeda. Look it up.

Not sleeping at the switch   June 19th, 2008 11:19 am ET

Bob S   June 19th, 2008 11:19 am ET

he vendor probably was just trying to be funny, but being funny by being racist should not be tolerated. THE GOP DID THE RIGHT THING, not because it was right in this particular instance, but because LETTING IT BE KNOWN THAT RACISM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED BY THE GOP WILL DISCOURAGE RACISM FROM SHOWING ITS UGLY HEAD IN THE FUTURE. IF ONLY OBAMA AND THE DNC HAD SIMILARLY SPOKEN UP TO DISCOURAGE SEXISM, MILLIONS OF WOMEN IN THIS COUNTRY WOULD NOT BE SO TURNED OFF BY OBAMA, THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY AND THE MEDIA. But, then, apparently sexism is as accepted in this country as racism was a century ago.

laurence   June 19th, 2008 11:19 am ET

I have an idea. Why don't we call it the "Nations House". At least that way it no longer gives the air of racial supremacy towards any group in this nation. As far as this button issue goes I give the GOP leadership in Texas some credit for their tough stance on this stupid person. However, this is the monster that the GOP has created nation wide by being bigoted and elitist in their views towards others. Hillary Clinton, her husband and her campaign bear much of the blame for the current level of racial bigotry currently taking shape in this campaign. They stoked this mess and with the GOP being what it is, this was a perfect storm a forming. This is nothing short of "racial terrorism" being levied against Michelle and Barack Obama. So tell me, who's going to pay?

Brian   June 19th, 2008 11:19 am ET

Well, it wasn't always called the White House. I understand the button maker was just trying to be clever, but there is an interesting point underneath. Obama claims to stand for change. Perhaps changing the name of the White House to a new or former name would be symbolic of a paradigm shift in American politics. Just a though. I tend to read too much into things!

Kelby from Houston, TX   June 19th, 2008 11:19 am ET

WOW! I am truly impressed.
Because of the republican policies that's usally for business and not caring about peoples needs concerns or feelings, I have always thought that they were a bunch of closet racists tryin to keep the black man down.
But this action ALMOST makes me do a 180 on my opinion of the GOP in Texas.
YA SEE!!! Texas isn't all bad
Unless they had some alterior motive for doing that

irene walls   June 19th, 2008 11:17 am ET

just heard that Obama is refusing public money - well, sure he is because everyone has given already what they can. he should have done this along time ago - being is for change for the people. i think what happened is his supporters (civilians) should have been told to keep their money and pay off a bill, put towards their children's college tuition or buy food. this is what he should have said from the beginning. chances are a lot of supporters for various reasons gave money they really could not afford.

The more I follow this election as an independant; the more I like the Republicans. Deomcratic side is supposed to be about "change" but it's the same racism (Wright), hypocrisy (Obama criticized Hillary but now embraces her initial ideas and stances), and division (dem's booing Hillary). Good to see they banned the button.

sorry   June 19th, 2008 11:16 am ET

They need to change the name anyway. It just underscores the continued feelings of many of the "older" generation from the 50's-60's era, and why many will not vote for Obama. The "White" House is no longer a "white" only address. Change to the "All" House or something

Myron Lieberman, Miami Beach, USA   June 19th, 2008 11:16 am ET

I don't like the joke, but now the GOP is not adhearing to the constituion giving us the right to freedom of expression.

He gave his point of view, explain to him how you feel and give him the chance to apologize. Most people will joke about some very racist remarks and unsensitive topics, but please, are we all that perfect individual that never ever says the wrong thing?

Remember in accounting, when you're in "The Black" it is a wonderful position to be in. So maybe we should call it the "Black House???"

rick-philly   June 19th, 2008 11:16 am ET

Well at least they did the right thing. Unusual as it is for the GOP. Now just if they could stick to the issues at hand instead of going after mrs. Obama

Chad, Wisco   June 19th, 2008 11:15 am ET

This gets a ticker, but nothing about Obama not allowing those women in Detroit to sit near the stage due to their head scarfs. So whos lining whos pockets CNN.

Myron Lieberman, Miami Beach, USA   June 19th, 2008 11:15 am ET

I don't like the joke, but now the GOP is not adhearing to the constituion giving us the right to freedom of expression.

He gave his point of view, explain to him how you feel and give him the chance to apologize. Most people will joke about some very racist remarks and unsensitive topics, but please, are we all that perfect individual that never ever says the wrong thing?

Remember in accounting, when you're in "The Black" it is a wonderful posistion to be in. So maybe we should call it the "Black House???"

Ted from Washington, DC   June 19th, 2008 11:14 am ET

funny how they dont get banned untill after the damage has been done. Amazing Right wing Republicans have no morels and are total low lifes. Go figure.

OH> and how about those wonderfull Monkey T-shirts. Are they banned also???? Lets hope so.

Robert   June 19th, 2008 11:14 am ET

Well if he is elected will it still be called the whitehouse?
they gonna have a drinking fountain for whiteys only and a back door for whiteys?

JERKS

Raymond Duke   June 19th, 2008 11:14 am ET

It will be called the white house even though it will not be for the people of america"esprcially t" white people. It is apparent how Obama and his wife and friends hate the white population and this goverment is not socialist enough to suit them. Of course I don't think he will win but if he does the people of america that voted for him get what they deserve.I hope if he does get elected that he is a better leader than history has shown black leaders to be. I may be wrong but I don't know a single city or country in the world that has thrived and prospered under their leadership.

Jim   June 19th, 2008 11:13 am ET

Well that's good atleast the republican party is being a little more gracious, and it's nice they are donating the money. Mccain should do the same with that 300k he got from the guy who made the rape joke, donate that money.

rightytighty   June 19th, 2008 11:13 am ET

As we can see, it is the Democrat's big government entitlement ideology that has problems with race, not the Republican's less tax, equal freedom for all ideology…

Turnabout is Fair Play   June 19th, 2008 11:13 am ET

First the Curious George T-shirt carciature of Obama that was being sold by that redneck place, then that parakeeting idiot radio fool at McCain's rally blathering out Barack's middle name as a racial slur over and over till McStain grew some stones and kicked him off, now this. It seems racism still exists in this country despite it being 2008 and here I was thinking we had grown out of this stupid ignorance for the most part. For those STILL can't see the racism because you've never had to face it head-on; vote for Obama and prove me and the black community wrong for once. Make a difference and don't put up with stupid, ignorant racism.

Herman in LA   June 19th, 2008 11:12 am ET

Good stop the race bating haltered mess we are Americans and it's time that we learn to respect one another period.

Zero Tolerance on racism and bigotry and hatred.

Ludovic   June 19th, 2008 11:12 am ET

I am an obama supporter, but I find it very funny

Sue/PA   June 19th, 2008 11:12 am ET

took the GOP long enough to "ban" the disqusting button.

Does this mean he isnt allowed to sell them, ever?

As an older white woman I am highly insulted by the mindset of some American citizens……………..Time to grow up people.

Kevin Leo (Jonesboro, GA)   June 19th, 2008 11:11 am ET

There is nothing funny about racism, sexism, or ignorance. The GOP is once again playing catch up as they should have never allowed this person to sell his this crap at their event. Donating the vendor's fee is minimal since the guy has already made his money off of this garbage.

NoMcSame   June 19th, 2008 11:11 am ET

Well I guess the republicans will not be going on FOX(FIX) NEWS anymore if that is how they feel. Now that would be CHANGE.
