(CNN) — The Obama campaign said Friday it had raised $21.9 million in the month of May, along with nearly $690,000 in general election funds.

In its monthly campaign finance report filed with the Federal Election Commission, the campaign said its cash on hand figure was $43.1 million.

In April, the Obama campaign reported $31 million in donations. Monthly FEC reports for all presidential candidates are due by midnight.

If Obama really cared about people, he would donate the money people are sending him to the poor victims of flooding and tornadoes in the midwest, and accept public financing instead. IF he is as fantastic as his worshippers say he is, then he need not worry about November.

Judging from the people commenting, they probably ARE sending in part of their welfare checks! They call us ignorant, yet they cannot even spell the word correctly. I guess you guys are "investing" in your future with Obama with your welfare checks right? Because you think he will expand the welfare program?

I have news for you... I WILL NOT PAY for the SLOTHS of society!

A lot of people see but a few dont accept most of my fellow american having that same feeling about themself as they felt when young JFK worn his democratic party nomination. All we have to do is sit tight and let the Repub. selfdestrutive in the coming month.

So what is the presidential seal patented or something?

Cue the PUMA Packer and their "isn't he arrogrant rant 3…2…1…"

CNN, what happened at the conference, anything ideas of substance exchanged or was the new logo so mesmerizing?

<<<

Oh, nothing much Bev. Obama just smeared all Republicans by calling them racists. You know, nothing too serious.

And as far arrogance goes, Obama looks to be heading for the championship. His little followers aren't too far behind him either. I would imagine we'll be made to watch Obama's ranting speeches every night, just like Hugo Chavez's. And anyone critical of The Barack will be branded a racist. Barack, and his little friends, are quite the pair.

“And did I mention that he’s got a ton of money?” Senator Obama is going to raise millions of dollars to beat the funny old party in November. He has got the knack for convincing people to believe in him and to believe that he will do what he has said he will do. Senator Obama is on his way to becoming an icon of the American political experiment in democracy. Obama ’08!

Seattle Voter, so it is fair for McCain and his league to call obama a boy, but what is Obama called McCain old ??

Dont worry Obama, you will do much better in june

Tara   June 21st, 2008 12:14 am ET

How naive , to think that money raised by the Obama campaign is entirely made by small donations.
Is there a public record and if not , somebody should follow the paper trail.
What about the $ 28 600.00 a plate fundraiser one of the Kennedy's just gave , you call that small donations.?
Some families don't earn that in a year.
Therefore , all this talk about the enormous amounts of money raised and spent is repulsive and borders on obscenity.

Geri   June 21st, 2008 12:08 am ET

I hope Obama doesn't expect too much from the Midwest. If he doesnt know (or care), we have been devastated by floods and tornadoes. Maybe he could donate some of that money back to the people that really need it. Bet him & Michelle wouldn't be able to go 5 days or longer with no running water or being able to flush a toilet.

What makes me so uneasy about this has nothing to do with Obama, but rather the way that many people are trying so hard to find something and even when they can't still...they never seem to place the focus back on the issues. This only tells me that if there is going to be anything at all, it has to be about berating and nastiness rather than America and politics.

I wonder why some people in here call Obama using money to buy the White House? These money come from American people, not from lobbyists. They should have said that Americans are pitching in to buy the White House instead. And for McCain, his funds come from lobbyists, so it is lobbyists who are trying to buy the White House.

And The United States of America is a country of people or lobbyists?

Britta , Canada   June 20th, 2008 11:21 pm ET

All this gloating about the large amounts of money raised is demeaning the democratic process of electing the next leader of your country.
After having gotten it so wrong the last two elections , one would think that this time you apply scrutiny and thouroughly investigate the presidential candidates and what they stand for.
Yet here you are again , taken in by speeches that say nothing and once again cast votes based on likeability instead of substance.

Alan   June 20th, 2008 11:20 pm ET

The Obama campaign needs to keep raising more money. Good for them for keeping out the lobbyists and special interests, and shame on McCain for criticizing him for shutting out the public funds that would have included them. If you vote for McCain in November, you are voting for another four years of un-employment, continued rising gas prices, continued tax breaks for the very wealthy, that the rest of us will continue to have to pay for, no healthcare, more division, more poverty. Don't let McCain's campaign full you with their dirty tricks like the first bush did in 1988 when he pulled his dirty tricks against dukakis. Look where that left us, in a major recession, out of work, and in a major financial deficit. Don't buy McCain's lies.

LaShanda   June 20th, 2008 11:19 pm ET

Some of you are much dumber than I thought. Did you not see the racist button that was sold at a Texas GOP convention? Did you not hear a southern senator called Obama a "boy"? They ARE using race. He is the one that wanted to keep race OUT OF THIS. The Republicans are WELL KNOWN for their racism. Why are people keeping their heads in the sand?

Seattle Voter   June 20th, 2008 11:17 pm ET

Obama can play the race card without getting in trouble because he is bi-racial. He is so full of it! I'm a democrat but will not vote for him. Sure you don't need experience to be a US president that's why they have advisors but I DON'T TRUST HIM AT ALL. I'm sure Michelle will be making all the decisions anyways.

I think Obama is going to need all the money he can get due to all the potential skeleton's in his closet...ie, Rev Wright, his books, Michelle statement and Thesis, Larry Sinclair, his ties to Kenya...this list goes on and on. The only thing is, all the money in the world can't keep that closet door closed.

When Obama says his name is "funny" does he mean it has a muslim ring to it? Hey, doesn't he realize anyone who can remember 9/11 remembers the terrorism was caused by muslims? Anyone who doesn't have an inkling of doubt about this guy is simply naive. We're tlking about the highest office ands our national security, not Junior prom king. Vote for McCain; tried and proven patriot. Where do you think Obama is getting all the money from?

Vig   June 20th, 2008 11:03 pm ET

I'm just waiting for the bottom to fall out from under Obama – if something is too good to be true – it probably is – something about this guy's candiacy has the feel of thin ice., with it's propagandization, it's image make over's, it's empty chants of change – I always thought he got away too easily by quickly resigning from his racist church. As if that makes all the questions go away. It doesn't. I would not be at all surpised if some bomb shell gets exposed and he finds himself resigning from his candiacy the same way he did from his church.

In a questionnaire last year, Obama answered "yes" when asked: "If you are nominated for president in 2008 and your major opponents agree to forgo private funding in the general election campaign, will you participate in the presidential public financing system?" He added: "I will aggressively pursue an agreement with the Republican nominee to preserve a publicly financed general election."
So much for that! What’s a mere $85 million to Obama? By rejecting such public money, Obama can now raise millions more to buy more votes, just as he has in the primary campaign - and send Michelle to finishing school – and make himself a presidential seal – and buy off CNN the DNC – and that’s just for starters.

Desmond Sequeira   June 20th, 2008 9:55 pm ET

This money is coming mainly from everyday, regular but extraordinary people including those who do not have. These are the kind of people who saw through the establishment and saw in Jesus a person of integrity who invited them to work for CHANGE THEY COULD BELIEVE IN. Even Samaritans and foreigners believed in him as they do in OBAMA and his "WE" message.

RJ, CA   June 20th, 2008 9:55 pm ET

No, "Bishop" — there's lots more. Care to actually investigate Obama's "platform"? Bet not!

But let's try, just for the heck of it:

Change is what happens....when the pain of holding onto what is not working exceeds the fear of what might happen if you let go. People, from all these comments, it appears we are at a watershed. I for one admit I am blessed but realize I am also hurting pretty bad in many different ways. Don't know if I can take the pain much longer. I might just roll the dice and say a prayer. Long live JFK and his brother Bobby!

Can you say evaporation   June 20th, 2008 9:52 pm ET

At the Begining of June when the McCain camp announced it raised 21 Million, all the Obama supporters were saying – that's all, only 21 Million? And all the Non-Obama supporters kept asking, well how much did Obama raise?

Well now we know, it took us three weeks to find out, but now we know. McCain raised 21.5 Million for the month of May and Obama raised 21.9 Million, a difference of 400 thousand dollars. That's not much of a blowout by Obama, in fact that's not a blowout at all.

Moreover, in Feb 08, Obama raised the most his campaign has ever raised, 55 Million. Then in Mar 08 his camp raised 41 Million, then in Apr 08 his camp raised 31 Million, and now three weeks into the month of June (why did it take sooooooo long to report), we know that the Obama camp raised only 400 thousand more than McCain and only 21 Million for the month of May.

So every month that has gone by since February of this year, Obama is averaging 10 Million less each month in contributions. 55 in Feb, then 41 in Mar, then 31 in Apr, and then 21 in May- by this time next month he'll report that they only raised 15 Million at best.

Obviously people are slowly getting tired of giving him money.

Sharon Minnesota   June 20th, 2008 9:51 pm ET

It's the OB's who are out of step with reality and utterly disconnected from truth. You only have to read the reactionary posts on the CNN blogs dished out in daily rations by his supporters to tell you who the liar's really are. Such fantasy's are entertaining, if not crude, but they just can't possibly mean half of what they are saying.

OB and McCain need to discuss the real issues in a town hall setting like John has proposed. Until then, we'll just be getting more of he said, he said and the OB's will continue to post their silly rhetoric on these blogs.

John McCain raise more than $31 million in May, compared to Obama's $22 million. The tide — it is-a-turning!

Oh look republicans lying again:
McCain disclosed that he raised $21.5 million in May, spending $11.6 million and ending the month with $1.27 million in unpaid bills.

Tracy   June 20th, 2008 9:16 pm ET

I sent a little of that money, though I have none. As have so many that really had none to send. This is really going to be a people's election.

Poor McCain complaining that Obama won't take government funds for the election. Obviously, Obama realized he doesn't need them- so won't take them. It's not a flip flop, it's realizing that you shouldn't take government money when you don't have to.

McCain and the republicans have such a poor and small support base that they actually need government gathered money- people are not impressed with them and not pulling out their personal checkbooks for the republicans. If McCain can't get enough people to give single small to large donations, he should really know that he can't be elected.

Larry Ohio   June 20th, 2008 9:15 pm ET

This is why we must break the chain. I will donate what ever it takes to beat mccain and his sick following. Whatever it takes

First speak against the run away campaigns... money buys the white house.

Then change the rules when it is you hauling in the cash. Then make a pretty speech about how great it is for people to throw money at you so that you can steal the greatest office in the land.

Why so much money? Why so much convincing?

Aren't your merits enough to convince people? Oh... wait... you have no merits, just perceptions and promises and images you create.

Nothing but a fake and a phony.

"John McCain raise more than $31 million in May"

No he didn't. He raised 20.9 million in May. The 31 million number represents the amount he has on hand.

Racists won't vote for a black man (tee hee)... don't be afraid.... (teehee)

I pity the fall of the once great America.

pride is a curse   June 20th, 2008 9:04 pm ET

Obama is worse than Bush... and I though Bush was full of himself and cocky and quick to pat himself on the back.

Obama is starting to believe his own hype.

He thinks he is perfect and God's gift.

No way I will vote for this prideful, arrogant, self-serving man.

Roofin Reality, Houston, Tx.   June 20th, 2008 9:03 pm ET

Hey Jen, McCain raised $21 million. Sorry for the correction.

self-impressed   June 20th, 2008 9:02 pm ET

He reminds me of Bush... and why I did not vote for Bush ever.

Full of himself, prideful and cocky.

His marketing gimmick with the presidential Seal... just like Bush's "mission accomplished".

We all know how that worked out.

Cocky, overly self-confident, boastful men NEVER did appeal to this woman... even with nice smiles.

I look for sincerity, honesty and depth.

Texas Trail Dog are you upset that Sen. McCain can't raise any money without good 'ol Bushy??? You sound VERY bitter. I would be too, If I was losing....

Republican Joe   June 20th, 2008 8:45 pm ET

I am a republican who will vote, work, and contribute to Barack Obama. Republican men, women, old, young, white, black, hispanic, asian, jewish, irish, italian, american indian and many others will vote for Obama and the RNC has a big problem that is not being addressed. This is a bigger issue than democrats voting for McCain. CNN you need to do a special investigation on this issue.

Bishop   June 20th, 2008 8:44 pm ET

Don't Worry...there's more coming. Too bad there is a cap for donations...

Shannon   June 20th, 2008 8:41 pm ET

so now that Obama has played the race card again, will the media still keep calling him the candidate of hope and change. Now that he has played the race card again, will they say he is the one to unite the country. He just said Republicans are racist. In the primary any Democrat who didn't support him was a "typical" white person. Is this what all the money he's asked for bought us. Four years of whining about being picked on. Let's see, he lied about how he was going to fund thecampaign, on MSNBC yesterday and Lou Dobbs tonight they talked about how he says one thing to us about ending the war, and another to the Iraqi leadership. He flip flopped on bringing race into the campaign. He's going to support the wire tapping bill that gives immunity to the telecommunication industry. What has he kept his word on.....Hope and change, looks a lot like the same old, same old to me. Keep sending him money though!

Cynthia   June 20th, 2008 8:41 pm ET

Correction:

Just wait until the next report comes out after he has opted out of the public funding. That total will be even higher.

Jen, CA   June 20th, 2008 8:39 pm ET

Senator McCain, did you get the $200 I just sent you? Glad to do it - it's for my country!

A Latte Lover, Seattle, WA   June 20th, 2008 8:39 pm ET

I predict June will be a much bigger month for Obama. I know many of us were fearful that $$$ would be used to pay off HRC debts. I am so proud that Senator Obama is not using tax payers money for his campaign. Does anyone know what that 84.5 million will be used for now??? I hope it goes to help the people in Iowa...

Teddy California   June 20th, 2008 8:39 pm ET

A lot of Democratic advisors said Obama would rais $100 million in June and his campain would raise $500 million for the general election. He had better raise a lot of money. He has broken a promise for raising more money. If he cannot do that, it does not worth it.

Vanessa   June 20th, 2008 8:39 pm ET

McCain raised about the same NOT $31 million

Peter E   June 20th, 2008 8:36 pm ET

You know when at the end of last year Hillary was outraising Obama in money, including small donations, Obama supporters were screaming foul and accusing her of buying the election.
Now that it is their guy on top they call it 'giving voice to the people.'
'Yes, we can... apply double-standards to everything in this election.'

Ron   June 20th, 2008 8:34 pm ET

JIM...TX   June 20th, 2008 8:29 pm ET

HA HA HA...so McSame raised a few dollars more than Obama....hardly a tide turning event! More like some of the hundreds of Republican PACs thinking they better get behind old Johnny boy since thats all they got:) Obama has millions of REAL people who believe and are ready for a change in the "status quo".....the fear mogering Republicans are in deep S*** this time around:)

Peter E   June 20th, 2008 8:27 pm ET

People have very short memory. Bush outraised Kerry in small donations in 2004, and yet then the democrats were crying foul about how Bush was buying the election. Now that it is their guy raising that money they consider it 'giving voice to the people.'
Hypocrisy!

Peter E   June 20th, 2008 8:24 pm ET

Yet these Obama supporters criticized Bush for buying the election in 2004 when he also raised unprecedented amounts of money in SMALL donations. (certainly more than Kerry did)
Blind-sight is 0/0.

Venus   June 20th, 2008 8:23 pm ET

OK. May was another good month but McCain raised $21.5 million!

So... we are going to have to stay focus and step it UP!

Go Obama!

John   June 20th, 2008 8:22 pm ET

In two years when the country is in the pits, the very bottom. This seal will be on the bottom.

Peter E   June 20th, 2008 8:22 pm ET

And these people continue to complain how the gas prices were the fault of the Bush administration and how they are crippled by the new cost of living... and yet they see no problem spending their 'tight' budget on a spendocrat...

Peter E   June 20th, 2008 8:18 pm ET

So... when Bush raised unprecedented amounts of money in SMALL donations in 2004 he was being corrupt and buying an election... but when Obama does exactly the same thing he's 'giving a voice to the people?'
Hypocrisy alert!!!

Peter E   June 20th, 2008 8:16 pm ET

They don't call them spendocrats for nothing... Taking more and more money from people to score cheap political points and to buy elections...

Texas Trail Dog   June 20th, 2008 8:15 pm ET

WE MUST HAVE A FOOTHOLD IN THE MIDDLE EAST TO DISEMBARK OUR TROOPS. SO SHUT YOUR STUPID MOUTHS AND BACK OUR TROOPS.

Peter E   June 20th, 2008 8:15 pm ET

And what is he going to spend it on? Talking about issues? Presenting his record?
If the primaries were any indication then no. He's just going to spend it on cheesy ads that parrot empty slogans, or attack ads against his opponents.

Z   June 20th, 2008 8:15 pm ET

How much of that came from Al Quida??

McCain 2008!

Belle2   June 20th, 2008 8:14 pm ET

Obama is the worst of politicians. Just today he has injected race and fear-blaming McCain for using them when he is clearly the first to raise the issues. Now, he modifies the Presidential seal for his campaign-that appears comedic. He "changes his mind" on two issues (NAFTA and public financing). He is a farce and his followers bow. Or maybe this country has fallen down the rabbit hole with Alice. I am looking for the Queen of Hearts.

bow down before the lord   June 20th, 2008 8:14 pm ET

The brainwashed, adoring fools for Obama don't see anything shameful, decadant and reminiscent of "the ugly American" about it. This sheer wastefulness. How ostentatious. How ugly the democratic party has become.

Nations are starving. People are dying for freedom.

But here in America, we gleefully gloat about the huge amount of money we will spend to steal an election and install the least able leader.

And THIS in a year when the democrats have the election in the bag. Or maybe the democrats lost that advantage by trashing their best and installing their worst. Now the worst candidate of them all will simply buy his way into the white house.

I'm sick of his smug mug as it is. Now we will be plastered with images of the supreme leader everywhere.

The NEW DEMOCRATIC PARTY HAS DRIVEN ALL THE TRUE DEMOCRATS AWAY.

You are nothing but hypocritical manipulators.

Peter E   June 20th, 2008 8:13 pm ET

Obama cannot rely on his flip-flopping stances and his record to speak for itself. So he's just trying to muscle his way through the campaign by outspending his opponents on attack ads.

Peter E   June 20th, 2008 8:12 pm ET

I don't care whether that money comes in small or big donations. I want money OUT of politics! I don't care if it's 1000 or 1 million people having sent the money, it is still just buying an election and suppressing democracy. If we were to be fair we'd give equal chance to all candidates to present their platform and record instead of letting them outmuscle opponents by flooding the airwaves with attack ads that completely ignore the issues.
But then again Obama doesn't have stances or a record. So he relies on those attack ads.

Either Obama is the world's biggest fool or a complete idiot for putting a neo-presidential seal on his podium. If he can change the seal of the president, what makes you sure he won't change the name of the president's house. Give me a break! I like the name of Our White House. No change please.

I, for one, hope the closest he gets to the White House is the outhouse. He doesn't belong there as he is a serial quitter and a girlie man.

Second, did you see his gloves? Nice and frilly don't you think? What a comical cartoon character he is becoming.

How can anyone take him seriously. He is a clown. I saw new pictures today of sand baggers. I noticed not one was wearing gloves or girlie gloves like Obama likes to wear.

Give me a good old fashioned candidate with our values.

So now wasting millions to win a shoe-in campaign is a GOOD thing?

I thought Obama was the people's choice. Why does he need to keep spending money to convince people?

I thought America was hungry and eager for the kind of change Obama brings. So why does he still keep campaigning?

Wanton wastefulness where a candidate can buy his way into the presidency over other better and more qualified candidates.

Goes against Obama's preaching. His lofty oratory about Public financing and limiting the money wasted on campaigns.

Now that Obama is God, he can change the rules.
