Obama sets sights on Nevada, New Mexico

Sen. Barack Obama heads west next week
Sen. Barack Obama heads west next week

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama is heading west next week to campaign in two states he hopes to turn blue this November.

The Senator from Illinois is scheduled to hold a campaign event in Albuquerque on Monday and Las Vegas on Tuesday. CNN considers Nevada a battleground or swing state as both parties think they can win Nevada in the general election. President Bush carried Nevada in 2004, but by only two points over John Kerry.

CNN considers New Mexico a state that leans Republican, but the Obama campaign has the state in its sights. President Bush won New Mexico four years ago as well, but by only one percent, and New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson is a major Obama supporter.

But geography may also comes into play. Arizona borders both states and is the home state of Obama’s rival, Sen. John McCain.

The presumptive GOP presidential nominee will also be in the west next week. He starts his week with fundraisers and campaign events in California.

Swannie above... go get a life!

Obama's new seal reads... Obama for America! It's doesn't say "President Obama"! And please stop trying to prove you are smart... your comment – you got every word from another blog!

I bet if McSame had been creative and came up with it – then you folks would be celebrating!

Also... his logos and new seal should say alot about him as opposed to McCain's... McCain's logo is just for him and Obama's is for America!

Only strong people get the best jobs! What's Obama suppose to do... run like a whimp.

Say what you want... and thank God many of you are not on his campaign considering that you are not running for president and you are not even good at running your mouth!

Repub trolls are having a field day in this thread. Swannie, pay attention to the real crimes committed by the current sitting President instead of trolling about Obama. The rest of you trolls need to come up with new material. It gets old, having to wade through the muck to get to intelligent people that have valid view points.

Finally, a western strategy we can win. Kudos to Chairman Dean for laying the groundwork. It seems to me that a western strategy lends itself to Governor Bill Richardson or Governor Janet Napolitano as the obvious choices for running mates or maybe even Senator Patty Murray.

It seems as if the presumptive nominee has become the presumptuous nominee by stealing the presidential seal of the United States.

Find it funny that we chose a candidate that has to scratch and claw for the voters that the democrat should have no problems with this year. Low income, hispanic, woman, need I say more. As a Hillary supporter who saw how the DNC, with Howard Dean as the leader set this nomination up I think it is laughable how Obama and McCain are even close in this election. Let's see what the media does now to help Obama's campaign since they were part of his team during the primary.

Obama seems to be having a hard time defining himself so the Rep should have an easy time. As an Black American I'm tired of the " I'm the victim" talk.

I am waiting to see Obama make a stand and pick Hillary as his VP to win this thing.

    Hey Swanny,

Its not even comparable to the presidential seal. There are about 100 differences and only 3 similarities. What a cry baby.

How about you focus on the torture that the US has been doing, and the unlawful abuses of power by GWB before you start crying about a seal that has been tarnished by GWB. You're a typical Neo-Con!

The new seal doesnt break the law in any way and in now way implies that Obama is president. It says Obama for America!

get it right and stop twisting the facts! McSanity has obviously brainwashed you

good luck ; because barack quoted one day the lateeno's polls giving him 19% jump numbers. then congress rep celluar gets on lou dobbs and responds to that claim by saying NOT SO FAST. and then went on to whine and belly ache about lateeno's who are here in droves and that have squatted all over the united states waitng for green cards . and its like if you don't promise us green cards don't come here. every 20 yrs you hispanics do the same ol thing come to the US in droves have anchor babies and demand citizenship. BULLPUDD'N. why can't mexico take care of its own. thats where their allegence is , so why don't all of the meat packing companys relocate to the deep south around the mexican border and start up your meat companys. so the lateeno's can be close to home. OH i forgot they can't because the mexican drug cartels own the southern mexican and united states border . with there join us or die drug mentality. excuse me

Some of the people who post of these sites are so hateful towards Obama. They'll do anything to ruin a good thing for this country and leave us with the same old politics and the same old politician. These people don't realize that McCain has lied on several issues but as long as he is the war hero candidate, they can look past those problems and only focus on Obama's. Fortunately, the people in New Mexico and Nevada are fair minded people and they'll focus on the issues. Once they realize that Obama is on their side, they'll vote Obama and those states will turn blue. Polls suggest that he has already made a lot of headway in those states. So, Smart – yes!! Wise- Yes( I mean he did beat one of the best brand names in American politics), and presidential material – YES, AGAIN!!!!

BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA for president...2008!!! YES WE CAN!!!

I think the last 2 elections make it clear that New Mexico is more in play than many so called swing states. I think he should try his hardest to swing it to his column.

The president should be smart with book sense and common sense. Obama has both and McBush has neither. If you like Bush and you want more of the same then vote for McCain. If you're sick of Bush and want a positive change then vote for Obama. It's that simple.

The Obama logo is good enough to be on doormats. John's immigration guest worker bill with Kerry was a good one. Might want to visit that one again. After all McCain understands the bill more than the self proclaimed President Amabo.

This is the ugly part of politics. Obama didn't invent the game but right now he knows what he's up against so he has to fight fire with fire otherwise the GOP and 527's would make mincemeat out of him.

Sorry Obama. You cannot consider our states including Nevada as blue state. This time California will vote for John mcCain even if you visit here ten times. Nevada is a red state and it will always remain so. When we have people like Reid (Senate majority leader) in Nevada, you cannot expect Barack to get electerd. Barack, Go Home.
