Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland
Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland received a standing ovation Saturday night when he predicted the state will again tip the race for the White House — this time, delivering it to Democratic presidential nominee-in-waiting Barack Obama.

Strickland, noting that he had backed Hillary Rodham Clinton for the Democratic nomination, said she would want him to deliver a message.

"Barack Obama is the nominee of our party. He is a bright, committed, energizing young leader," Strickland said at the Ohio Democratic Party's annual dinner. "I met with him yesterday in Chicago and I pledged to him then, as I had previously, that I will work my heart out for him and that Ohio will work her heart out for him."

"Aren't you glad to be a Democrat?" Strickland shouted. "Aren't you really, really, really angry with George W. Bush and Dick Cheney?"

Democratic governors who won election in states that twice backed Bush have lessons to offer Obama, one of those governors said.

"The door of the White House only opens through Ohio," said Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, a Democrat from a traditionally Republican state.

Sebelius, daughter of former Ohio Gov. John Gilligan, touted Obama's credentials and "Kansas values." She said Obama would be superior to presumptive Republican nominee John McCain on
kitchen-table issues Ohioans care about, such as health care, affordable education and home foreclosures.

While her remarks were meant to rally Democrats, part of her aim was to quiet discontent within the party. "There are still constituencies who are going to need a little time to embrace Sen. Obama's candidacy," she told reporters after the event, noting women in particular.

Sen. Sherrod Brown told the crowd a McCain presidency would be a "third term for George Bush."

He criticized the Republican nominee for visiting Ottawa, Canada, on Saturday rather than Ottawa, Ohio — where the state has seen economic hardship and lost jobs. Brown said McCain is out of
touch with Ohio voters.

"There is no way, no how that John McCain's going to carry Ohio in 2008," Brown told the crowd of about 2,500 on the Ohio State Fairgrounds.

Clinton, who headlined the same dinner last year, scored a convincing primary win in Ohio in March. She has since dropped out, but many Democrats worry the party remains divided.

Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones, a Cleveland Democrat who backed Clinton's campaign, did her part Saturday by delivering a video presentation complimenting Clinton but urging the state's Democrats
to get behind Obama.

Sebelius and 19 other Democratic governors met with Obama in Chicago on Friday to share state policy concerns and offer political help to the party's presumptive presidential pick. The
governors have built-in networks of experienced political aides, something Obama will have to tap as he prepares for a November election against McCain.

Sebelius said the focus of Friday's meeting, which Strickland also attended, was on dovetailing the needs of Democratic governors — who lead 28 of 50 states — with Obama's general election
campaign.

The Republican National Committee said voters will reject Obama, no matter who speaks on his behalf.

"Democratic governors, much like the voters from the states they represent, recognize that Barack Obama's big-government agenda and old-style politics are not a good match for their states'
interests," said Blair Latoff, an RNC spokeswoman.

Some of Those Endorsing Obama:

- Louis Farrakhan (Nation of Islam Leader, racist, anti-Semite)
- Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades ( Islamic Terror Organization)
- Raila Odinga ( Fundamental Islamic candidate, Kenya, poss. cousin)
- Daniel Ortega (Marxist Sandinista Leader, Nicaragua)
- Socialist Party ( Marxist Political Party)
- The New Black Panther Party ( Black Militant Organization)
- Hamas Terrorist Organization ( Islamic Terrorist Organization)

Why are so many American enemies rooting for Sen. Obama???

AN OHIO VOTER   June 22nd, 2008 3:29 pm ET

No, Governor Sebelius, Senator Obama does NOT have "Kansas values". He has CHICAGO values!! Nice to hear from you Governor, I did not realize you were former Ohio Governor John Gilligan's daughter. Your dad was a good governor for the State of Ohio….

"Democratic governors, much like the voters from the states they represent, recognize that Barack Obama's big-government agenda and old-style politics are not a good match for their states'
interests," said Blair Latoff, an RNC spokeswoman.

And the GOP did much better over the last 7 years? Give me a break; the Republican party had seven years to keep America great, they have ruined our reputation around the world, wasted soldiers lives and America's money in a war that should have never been started, allowed the banking institutions to change the bankruptcy laws to benefit banks and force homeowners into the streets during hard times. They really believe they should get another 4 years to "STAY THE COURSE," PLEEEZE.

Not this time, not this registered voter. Anyone considering voting for ANY republican in the upcoming elections should have their head examined at their own expense of course, because republicans won't pay for it!

Can't embrace someone who has never been forthright and honest about his relationship with a black liberation church where the pastor preached hate and racism. Obama has never let the voters know why he remained a member of the congregation for 20 years. Not only is his honesty suspect, but certainly his judgment and core values. He is beginning to show more and more everyday that he is not different than all the other politicians he has criticized.

PMuffet   June 22nd, 2008 3:22 pm ET

We'll see. As a former Ohioan I know there is a great segment of "old dogs you can't teach new tricks." That is why Ohio is suffering from a economy they allowed "Bush" in office to destroy. I hope Ohio get it right THIS time.

pakuna   June 22nd, 2008 3:16 pm ET

obama is not good for any state. He is old-style Chicago mob leader. He is still a citizen of Kenya. He is not Black yet still plays the black race card. He did not come from a poor family. He did not have to scrimp and claw his way into the political field. He played underhanded political tactics to get voted into the Senate. When in the Senate he has DONE NOTHING to improve our country. He reminds me of Hitler when he was coming into power. The Democratic Party was broken by obama, lets not let him break America.

Diogenes   June 22nd, 2008 3:16 pm ET

Gov. Stricklamd: stop making sense.

Clinton supporters will rather vote against their own interests than vote for Obama.

Other than Clinton, they dont want a Democrat in the White House. They want McCain, regardless of the fact that he stands for everything they abhor.

Such is the definition of narrowmindedness, but I guess such are the times and such are the conditions.

Cut your nose to spite your face.

seah ohio   June 22nd, 2008 3:13 pm ET

This is one Democrat from Ohio who tells Strickland to stuff it.

I am Angry at Obama for using and abusing the American people.

Tearing the country apart and The Democratic Party to shreds.

Obama is not fit to be the President of the United States of America.

The primary was the primary. I feel like Senator Clinton did Senator Obama a favor in many, many ways, and she deserves credit for that. Now is time to back the party's nominee.

I believe that the American people are smart enough to look at the issues and compare them to the plan of the canidates' and then make an intelligent as to whom will better lead the country.

A Nightingale Sings in Berkley Square   June 22nd, 2008 3:02 pm ET

Not this Ohioan. Not in my state and not today or tomorrow. Hillary just met the threshold of respectability but not obama who is a serial quitter and wants to run on Carter's second term. A far left liberal who wants to tax and spend your money on the welfare Queens. You know who I mean.

Helen, NY   June 22nd, 2008 3:02 pm ET

Ted, you become a loser because Obama is a loser. Obama has no experience whatsoever. Do not get blinded by his rhetorics. It is time for him to go back to Chicago. We do not need a dishonest, inexperienced president. Obama, Go away.

Mark   June 22nd, 2008 2:45 pm ET

Its good to see Democrats united. McCain voted to impeach Bill Clinton. If there's a Clinton supporter alive who would vote for McCain after that fact, I think they are delusional.

Hillary and Obama agree on 95% of their issues. McCain and Bush agree on 95% of their issues. If they vote against Obama, then it is not because of Hillary or the issues, then its some personal gripe.

And of course there will be pro McCain posts on here that will bring up Jeremiah Wright and race. Because that seems to be the only and largest criticism of Obama. Id be challenged to ask McCain supporters instead to show one issues McCain HAS NOT FLIP FLOPPED on. Good luck with that. No instead you'll point out what a liar Obama is, and never really say what these "lies" are.

No matter how Republicans spin it, they are going to have dificulty in every state, including the so-called red states.

John McCane was the worng choice in 2000, he is the wrong choice in 2008, he is the wrong choice, period.

No self-respecting conservative will vote for John McCane. It will be hard for the conservatives to vote for Obama, so sitting out this election is the only choice.

All the flip-flops and gaffes coming out of McCane's mismanaged campaign are giving me a head-rush.

Don't let the McCain campaign fool you.

I believe the people of Ohio and other states seeing John McBush going to Canada , kissing up to them will show that he does not intend to bring jobs to us , but send more jobs north.I am sure that Senator Obama will appreciate Gov. Strickland's help with the people in Ohio like he helped Senator Clinton. We can not let John McBush win, this country can not take another four years of Bush policy. I am praying that red states like Ohio and Indiana turn blue as blue can be. OBAMA 08

The "third term for George Bush" line isn't going to cut it. Nobody believes that, not even Democrats. Whenever a person says that, you know instantly that the person is a tool and a non-thinking robot, brainwashed by Obama and the Demoncrats.

Georgia   June 22nd, 2008 2:04 pm ET

All I want to hear from Senator Obama is who is his running mate. Then and only then will I decide if I will vote for him. I don't trust him and I do not feel that he is the "leader" that Democrats need at this time. He is unqualified and will take too much advice from people like Daschle, Dodd, Kerry and Kennedy. He is their nominee, let them vote for him. My vote is too important to play your games with.

WHO WILL BE YOUR RUNNING MATE, SENATOR OBAMA??

Sylvia Johnsen   June 22nd, 2008 2:03 pm ET

The Candidate Obama changes so fast it's a struggle to follow. Obama tries to sell the electoral map is different this year, that he can win without Florida and Ohio. It's a fantasy to calm superdelegates.

Strickland is right, a winning requires a win in Ohio. If Obama hopes to win he should start deliver on some of those promises he made in the primaries. He can't run from them all.

Change he kind of lost with all that money from lobbyist, but there is still time to push bridging the divide and hope. VP Clinton fits the coming together goal. By hope I do not mean selling fantasy stories, but try to put the goals a little lower, i.e. start with an introduction of a plan on how to get out of Iraq. Promises are not plans, Obama needs a plan.

Sophia NJ   June 22nd, 2008 1:58 pm ET

Gov. Strickland: We know & appreciate your strong backing of Hillary but . . . sorry, I think you and others in the Democratic Party are underestimating the depth of discontent and distrust many Hillary supporters hold toward Obama. We see through him and his weaknesses and want something much more solid for our nation. It has nothing to do with race or spite (as we've been accused of) and everything to do with readiness for the most important job in the world. You and others can try your best to put a positive spin on the Obama candidacy but remember the truth of that old saying: you simply can not make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

Georgia   June 22nd, 2008 1:57 pm ET

Why should a true Democrat vote for Barack Obama? He is the most divisive, flip flopping, insensitive and sneaky candidate that the Democrats have ever selected to run for President of the United States. I don't know what he has on you but he doesn't have squat on me and I refuse to vote for him. Follow him if you like, but I don't have to and I won't.

GAE   June 22nd, 2008 1:51 pm ET

After the horrible treatment of the Clinton's, maybe a third term of George Bush is not so bad. Why should Democrats rally around Barack Obama and the DNC now? I believe that Obama and the DNC needs to be sent a clear message that we will not condone or legitimize their unfair treatment of Bill, Hillary, Chelsea Clinton or loyal Democrats who have supported our Party for generations!! When you sort through the "trash" of the primaries and find the "true" values, morals and beliefs of "Democrats", maybe, just maybe, we will support the Democratic Party again. You cannot "scare" us with "a third term of George Bush" and make us follow and agree with you!!You broke it, now fix it…… IMHO

They can say all they want to and make all the endorsements they want to . People like me and my wife and three voting age adults have heard and seen this man, his terriost friends, his reverend and anti- american church. We have heard the great words he has spouted"CHANGE AND HOPE". He gives no solutions . Change and hope is nothing but a four letter word and a six letter word without solutions and answers. I know Bush has been a great failure to the american people. But I have never seen people in this country hate america so much "especially the college kids" Maybe we should start the draft again and teach these people what america is all about and send them to these countries that have no rights and a goverment that does not give you a hand out to go to school. I know a lot of this comes from the liberal views of their proffessors who hate america and teach this rehoritic to them. Of course these liberals have never loved america and come from the sixties. I grew up during that period but thank God I had more sense then to buy off on that crap.

ChicoSez   June 22nd, 2008 1:46 pm ET

The argument that McCain would be just like a Bush third term is laughable. McCain leading a solidly democratic congress could get things done bipartisanly. But Obama with a democratic congress would have no reason to work across the aisle, especially taking guidance from Kennedy/Dean/Pelosi/Read and other ultra-liberal pols. And Obama owes these people his nomination so he will listen to them. Don't be fooled by empty rhetoric, vote the man not the charisma. McCain 08

Lets see…

We COULD have gone with HRC- whose platform, the imposter Obama is now claiming for his own campaign- except for the UNIVERSAL health care plan, which Obama falls way short on- but we STILL installed the lesser, smoother talking candidate, Obama.

Less qualified, not tested, has never done anything for his country, no experience, weaker (but similar) platform… almost AS GOOD AS Hillary R. Clinton… But not in strength of character.

Obama lacks the strength of his convictions. Obama makes a good speech and forcefully presents his positions and then just as easily caves in the minute it is more convenient and politically expedient to "change his mind". SO WHAT DOES HE BELIEVE IN AND WHAT DOES HE STAND FOR AND WHAT WILL HE ACTUALLY DO?

Hillary? We KNOW her undying and unflagging commitment to Health care, children, the disenfranchised. But RACE trumps Gender, I guess.

Remind me, why did we go with second best rather than with the real deal?

The Oprah? The Media? The Hatred? The race card?

Well good luck with your two-faced, back-stabbing, hypocritical liar.

I won't vote for him… just like I did not vote for Bush… for all the same self-important, cocky, arrogant, lying reasons.

I am just as angry at George W. Bush for stealing votes in FL to win among other things as many FL Dems are about the fact the the DNC stripped us of our votes here in FL and Obama won in the same way that Bush did. Like a lot of people here, I will not vote for Obama unless Hillary is on that ticket. I cannot vote for someone who supported voters being counted as half people, voters having votes taken from them totally, and some voters even having their Clinton vote taken and given to Obama, all just so he could win. I have left the Democratic Party and now I am "No Party," and if Hillary is not on that ticket my vote goes to McCain.

Belle2   June 22nd, 2008 1:09 pm ET

If Obama wants voters to trust him; he needs to show himself trustworthy. Unfortunately, I don't believe he can do that. He has done nothing except renege on campaign promises (without even winning the election), change his mind when it is politically expedient—this does not show that he deserves trust.

Then look at his record: Chicago politics at its worst—disqualify your opponents so you run unopposed. Cry foul before anyone has a chance to attack (fairly or unfairly).

How can anyone not see his arrogance: brushing Clinton off his shoulders?

How can anyone trust someone whose only record is sitting on the fence (not voting) then holding the vote against those who did vote. Voting present was sitting on the fence. He has no record of any action that wasn't politically expedient.

Give me a reason to trust and I might vote for him.

I have truly missed her. EVERY American knows she was and IS the best candidate out there.

Unfortunately, she will not help Obama.

She will simply remind many millions of voters HOW MUCH BETTER SHE IS THAN OBAMA.

As a Clinton supporter, seeing her will make me reject Obama all the more. After all… Obama played sneaky, dirty politics, including pulling the race card, and encouraging Hillary hate… just to win.

He failed… so the supers installed him as nominee.

HRC will remind us all of that. And… don't try saving him by putting her on the ticket as VP. She is too good for that and many democrats will still not trust Obama in the top spot.

Think twice next time before resorting to nasty, mean, vile, vulgar, race baiting, hateful divisive tactics you UNITER, Obama.

And… try standing up for something that you purport to believe… rather than change with the winds for political expediency, Obama.

Slick Obama campaign of change = same old effective propaganda of all dictators.

Obama Is More In Tune With The Voters! Mccain Is Just Too Out Of Touch Or Doesnt Care About What The American People Need! Mccain Just Keeps Pushing His War Agenda And Fear Tactics! Mccain Would Not Be Good For Our Economy, Health Care, Our Military, Foreign Policy, The Environment, Our Infrastructure, Or The Most Important Thing Our Constitution! In My Mind This Disqualifies Him From Being The President! His Voting Record Really Brings It Home For Me! A Real War Hero Would Never Vote Against Helping Our Troops! A Man Of Honor Would Not Treat Women The Way He Has! Someone Of Real Experience Would Not Be Wrong About So Many Things! Obama Out Does Mccain All The Way Around! His Judgement Trumps Mccain Experience! Change Will Trump Mccain And The Failed Policies Of His Run For A Third Bush Term!

As a longtime Clinton supporter, I am not all that happy that Gov. Strickland is making promises that my vote in Ohio will automatically go for Senator Obama. While the Senator is now the nominee of the Democratic party, I still don't know that much about him. He has still not come out to tell me what he is going to do about the loss of jobs here in Ohio or how he is going to guarantee health insurance for everyone here in Ohio and beyond. With Hillary, we knew what she said was a promise from a friend. With Senator Obama, we are being asked to trust an unknown character and vote for him just because he is a democrat. Right now, I know so much more about Senator McCain. Unless Senator Obama gets out and starts talking more about his plan to end the resession here in Ohio; he is going to lose my vote and the vote of many other Hillary supporters. Senator Obama can't just count on Hillary supporters to vote for him because he is a democrat. We just don't know enough about his policies. He isn't saying enough to let us know how he is going to help us and I am not willing to vote for someone because of his political party affiliation or because my governor tells me to.

independent   June 22nd, 2008 12:35 pm ET

who knew ohioans were all girls?oh,well,as long as they vote for obama.

A Buckeye   June 22nd, 2008 12:34 pm ET

I voted for Ted Strickland because of the mess this state is in after 8 years of Taft, BUT, I do not want to think of him as VP. We need somebody with a little more get up an go. And after the primary, I call Ted a bobblehead, because no matter what Hillary said, he bobbleheaded with agreement, knowing it was not true.

Jason, Texas   June 22nd, 2008 12:33 pm ET

First of all, I think it's sad that this is the case, meaning that Ohio can determine so much. I think it's crazy in a republic like ours. That said, I hope Ohio goes blue. I can't imagine them voting for Mcsame, but so many people in this country are not thinking with their brains. I say this nicely since they are thinking with their emotions and I don't blame them. Don't let the Republican fear machine push you into bad decisions Ohio!

Ilona Proud Canadian   June 22nd, 2008 12:27 pm ET

THANK YOU GOV. STRICKLAND!!

DEMOCRATS, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY,REALLY, APPRECIATE YOUR SUPPORT!

Hello, my Barack and Hillary..now for Barack supporters, I have been waiting for the opening on one of these articles, so that I could post a couple of comments, not relating to this specific article.

I read a few comments this morning that were, to say the least illogical… so here goes.

Bill Covington.

This was his comment…..(I think it was on the article Obama sets sights on Nevada and New Mexico)..Obama says he graduated from Harvard, BUT THERE IS NO PAPER TRAIL…Obama…NEVER WROTE ANYTHING… and if I remember correctly Covington compared Barack to ADOLF HITLER, ONLY WORSE!….he called Barack a PUNK..

Independent… asked this question….WHY ARE SO MANY MUSLIMS SUPPORTING OBAMA WHILE HE TREATS THEIR RELIGION LIKE IT WAS A DESEASE!

I would really like to question their candidate of choice. I can only think that it is John McCain. WHERE DO THEY GET THEIR MISINFORMATION? I am also sure that these folks when making remarks like before mentioned, are real die hard RACISTS OF THE WORSE KIND!

SORRY FOLKS I WAS SO ANGRY READING SOME OF THE COMMENTS THAT I JUST HAD TO COMMENT ON SAME. you have to be really careful when interpreting some of the comments, I think they are being made by McCain's supporters posing as Hillary supporters. Don't let them get to you!

YES YOU CAN….YES YOU WILL!

One can only hope Ohio votes Democrat.

patricia   June 22nd, 2008 12:23 pm ET

Hooray! America and the world need President Obama now.

don't care he is black but hate the race baiting he does   June 22nd, 2008 12:16 pm ET

Unfortunately, Obama is such a poor option- out of a host of GREAT democratic options- that he will lose voters to McCain.

Thus Obama will lose the election for democrats in a year when democrats can't lose.

And, even old weathered tired out McCain will WIN the election in a year when NO democrat should be able to win.

GOOD WORK DEMS, DNC, PELOSI, RICHARDSON, KENNEDY, OPRAH, SUPERDELEGATES, HATEFUL NEWBIES, BLACK PUNDITS, AAs WHO THREATENED TO BLACK OUT THE VOTE, THE BIASED MEDIA… you succeeded… you managed to create an illusion of strength and support for Obama that did not exist.

By trashing HRC… you actually REDUCED the support he had. Now HRC supporters saw how he plays politics and are no longer willing to vote for Obama.

Every day… Obama pulls an egotistical, dirty trick or back tracks on something he claimed to believe in… and loses more support.

Tom   June 22nd, 2008 12:16 pm ET

"Aren't you glad to be a Democrat?" Strickland shouted.

Actually no, I'm not, not anymore. I have never seen a more divisive, sarcastic, arrogant, naive and essentially useless candidate as the one that was chosen for us by the DNC as opposed to the one the majority of voters chose. He's a liar, a flip flopper extraordinaire, a race baiter and an abuser of the public trust. That's why, for the first time in my long life, I'm voting for a republican this fall. Between this "candidate" and the useless congress, I think the true democratic party has ceased to exist.

California Women for Obama   June 22nd, 2008 12:12 pm ET

It looks like unity is beginning to happen. The truth is EVERY state is important in this election and I hope the true democrats realize we are not playing the NBA Finals here (there are not seven games). There is only ONE election in November and either you are with us or against us. Only please make up your mind.

Dealt   June 22nd, 2008 12:11 pm ET

It's quite laughable, Republicans saying Obama will bring old-style politics… but if they keep saying that it's likely that will gain Obama some Republican votes. And doesn't that new accusation sort of contradict the label "too liberal" that Republicans have tried to attach to Obama? They're really chasing their tails… As to big government spending I fail to see bigger spending than the Bush's administration has brought and McCain plans to maintain.

vw   June 22nd, 2008 12:11 pm ET

Hey, Gov. Ted Strickland,

Did not you hear Obama said a couple of days ago he can win election even without Ohio and Penn?

Forget it, Gov Strickland. Our best candidate -Hillary has been forced to drop out of race, so what we should do next to save his undemocratic/hijacked party?
It is for sure either Hillary Clinton 2008 or John McCain 2008.

Democrats UNITE! (And I'm a republican!)   June 22nd, 2008 12:10 pm ET

Go Obama .

- Republican.

Ben   June 22nd, 2008 12:08 pm ET

Please voters in Ohio don't let the republicans take away our only chance to get rid of this war mongering oil backed party that has left our economy in shambles

Obama Plays Race Card Again   June 22nd, 2008 12:06 pm ET

Strickland plays a mean sound byte and looks good on TV when it comes to giving a rehearsed speech, but he has yet to accomplish anything of substance. Might be why he and Obama are such a great team.

Panther   June 22nd, 2008 12:01 pm ET

Small government is what the RNC is preaching? If this current government is not BIG, then, I don't know the right definition of the word "big"!!

Brian   June 22nd, 2008 12:01 pm ET

Obama does not have all the answers but to continue the same policy decisions is madness!

good luck selling this hypocrit   June 22nd, 2008 12:00 pm ET

The fact that so MANY voters- including life long Democrats who are loathe to ever vote for a Republican- are now considering exactly that…
says a lot.

It says that Obama is being seen for the socialist dictator that he wants to be. We see that Obama is using propaganda and rhetoric to enthrall the young people. We see how Obama uses the race card both as a shield against any legitimate criticism and as a sword to pre-emtively eviscerate his competition from the start.

He used the same exact tricks of hate, fear and division against HRC in the primary. Thus he succeeded in eliminating the ONLY GOOD CANDIDATE. Now, we are all expected to simply vote for Obama because… gee he MUST be better than the alternative- McCain- right? Folks that is manipulative dirty politics.

Even if it is true… and McCain is a lousy choice… that is no reason to vote for the Guy that eliminated the ONE good choice out of the race by using hate and fear and the race card. That makes Obama a lousy choice as well… and a cheating , manipulative liar as well.

So the fact that it is SO hard- for democrats like myself- who have NEVER before had a conflict supporting the party nominee- to get behind Obama, says a lot.

It tells us that once again, the Democrats selected the least electable nominee and will ensure themselves a loss in a year where it should be impossible for the DEMS to lose.

Worse yet… this unelectable nominee was not elected by the people but demanded by a sector of the electorate and then installed by the DNC…while discounting the votes for the other candidate.

Obama is not a good choice. HRC WAS- that is why her voters are not converting over. We will have to vote against Obama, a candidate we do NOT trust… since we can not vote for a candidate we actually believe in.

Tim Struve   June 22nd, 2008 11:59 am ET

We're clearly a swing-state, and I think that if Obama does a bit of extra campaigning in my state (especially in the Cincinnati suburbs, which caused the scales to tip Republican in the last election and thus brought Bush to the White House due to a couple of conservative affluent white counties in Southwestern Ohio), we will definitely go blue. I know a lot of members of Obama's key demographic constituencies (blacks and educated young voters) who are very enthusiastic about his candidacy and he's got their vote in a bag.

His issue now is APPEALING TO BLUE-COLLAR VOTERS. There aren't too many Hispanics in the state, but the blue-collar demographic appeal is what lost him Ohio in the primary… he needs a running mate like John Edwards or even, I will concede, Hillary Clinton. If he chose Hillary Clinton as his running mate, I am pretty sure Ohio would be his. Although Ohio's governor Ted Strickland has since refused to join the ticket, I think he would have also been a good choice.

This is why I am proud to be a democrat

GA American   June 22nd, 2008 11:57 am ET

Is this all democrats can say, "McCain would be like a third term for Bush." In actuality what the dems are stating is they want a dem in the White House. They have been saying this for years. My stance; look what's happened to our country since the democrats took over congress. Democrats have done nothing for the good of our country! I heard Obama's speeches. He still does nothing but degrade the republicans. I built my business on my srengths, not by blasting my competiters and belittling them with false accusations and BS comments. Wher's your professionalism Obama. You want to be President then act like one. Better yet, democrats, you say you want change. Then create change for the better. So far all you've done is screw up evrything you manage to put your hands on.

A disgruntled American

This is great! It's all coming together now!

Let's go Dems!

Raghu   June 22nd, 2008 11:48 am ET

I mean only the greatest of the great can win without Ohio.

From 1900-2004, only two presidents(F.D.R and J.F.K) won without Ohio.

The Blind Lady of Justice   June 22nd, 2008 11:47 am ET

OK …. Governor Strickland … a good start on your and Mrs. Clinton's part.

Now let's see "the rubber meet the road".

Undo the half truths that have been placed in minds of rural Ohioan's about Mr. Obama. You can start with NAFTA …

Raghu   June 22nd, 2008 11:46 am ET

He'd be a good V.P.

Im sorry you Hillary haters, but As goes Ohio(in the GE) so goes the nation after John Kennedy won without Ohio.

I LOVE MY STATE!!!!!!!

M.K. Ozman   June 22nd, 2008 11:39 am ET

This election is for women to lose. Male Democrats have less at stake in this election than women. After all they don’t have to worry about abortion rights, pay discrimination at the job because they are female, and a whole lot of sexist policies targeting them. If you are willing to vote against your interests as a woman for the philandering McCain, a man who dumped his faithful wife, the ex-model who waited for him five long years because a car accident made her look ‘unattractive’ in his eyes, and for who? for a rich younger “good looking” heiress; a man who’s just accepted $300,000 from a conservative backer who callously said that women might as well enjoy being raped?; a senator who has voted against women in every bill he lay his sights on – go ahead and make your day. But don’t get back here on these blogs in 2009 to cry how awful he is and how your rights are being overturned in the supreme court because of his judicial appointments. Male democrats will have a clear conscience that at least they voted against the incoming disaster. You may feel hurt because of Hillary’s loss (which was absolutely fair under the established rules), but you should not vote because of hurt feelings or because you like or dislike Obama – you vote because of where you stand on the issues and how the candidates positions will affect you, pure and simple.

annie   June 22nd, 2008 11:39 am ET

Part of the 18mil Hillary supporters are from Ohio and believeme they are fed-up with the demos and the dnc who SELECTED obama. The demos - a party put asunder by obama and other corrupt demos. Sen. Clinton would do herself a great favor and our country a great favor and run Independent. If not, it is Republican all the way.

gary   June 22nd, 2008 11:38 am ET

WORK ALL THEY WANT. WITHOUT HRC HE HAS NO CHANCE. THE REAL O.B. IS FINALLY STARTING TO SHOW .THEY ARE STARTING TO SEE WHAT A JOKE AND PHONEY HE REALLY IS.

Franky   June 22nd, 2008 11:37 am ET

"Democratic governors, much like the voters from the states they represent, recognize that Barack Obama's big-government agenda and old-style politics are not a good match for their states'
interests," said Blair Latoff, an RNC spokeswoman."

Who is saying this??? A Democrat or a Republican??? I don't know who's the Dem or the Rep in this election, LOL!!!
